Hi,
I have a database (SQL server express 2008) which has a column that is defined as text. When we try to store some text which is in chinese, it is not saved. I read that the field should be ntext. I will now have to a conversion to my table to create the column as ntext.
Would I have to do anything with the collation of the database which is set to Latin?

Hi
Is there any way to massively alter primary keys(uid) to all tables with no primary primary keys in sql server database ? I have a lot of tables and most of them don not have primary keys.
Thanks in advance.
I need a way to make my database mdf file secure from any adminstrators in SQL Server Express. Because I am developing application with C# connected to SQL Express database.

hi!
Is there a way to insert only date in a datetime column in sql server without the time?
for example
date (datetime)
===============
12-01-2000
16-02-2000
or i should store this as a varchar and cast it when retriving so that i can convert to whatever form i need.
Hi Experts,
I have a tables with data like this
Id BookId TagId
34 113421 9
35 113421 10
36 113421 11
37 113421 1
38 113422 9
39 113422 1
40 113422 12
I need to write a query (SQL Server) which gives me data according to the tags say if I want bookIds where
tagid =9 it should return bookid 113421 and 113422 as it exists in both the books, but If I ask data for tags 9 and 10 it should return only book 113421 as that is the only book where both the tags are present.
Thanks

Hi,
I just noticed that if I have an identity column in a table, when I insert new rows SQL Server 2008 is automatically filling up the sequence if there are discontinuity. I mean, if in my identity column I have 1,2,5,6 if I insert other two rows in the table the system puts automatically 3,7 in the identity column.
Do you know how to control this behavior?
THANKS
Today was released SQL Server 2008 R2.
Was trying to find what is new (from the developer perspective), but the MS sites has all the PR blah, blah, blah.
There is something new to be aware?
Hi all, I just set up Mercurial on our main webserver, hosting repositories via hgwebdir.cgi. The problem I'm having now is when I run hg push from my local machine to the server's repository, it takes an absolutely ridiculous amount of time to push a very small directory, with only a single changeset. Is it possible that I've set something up wrong? I keep getting HTTP Error 502: Bad Gateway.
Thanks!
Question: The new SQL Server 2008 database returns me values formatted English (date/float).
Is there a way I can set the return format ?
For example temporarely switching the database language?
Or just set the language for the current query ?
Is there any handy tool that can make updating tables easier? Usually I got an Excel file with the original value in one column and new value in another column. Then I write a formula in Excel to create the 'update' statement. Is there any way to simplify the updating task?
I believe the approach in SQL server 2000 and 2005 would be different, so could we discuss them both? Thanks.
In Oracle's PL-SQL, you can declare a variable and define its type based on a table column:
declare var1 table.column%TYPE;
Is it possible to do something similar in MS SQL Server?
I searched but could not find a duplicate for this question. If there is one, please let me know and I'll refer to it and delete this.
I have half a million records in a data set of which 50,000 are updated. Now I need to commit the updated records back to the SQL Server 2005 Database.
What is the best and efficient way to do this considering the fact that such updates could be frequent (though concurrency is not an issue but performance is)
Sql server 2005 (even 2008) strips the insignificant whitespaces by default. To keep one can use the CONVERT funtction with the last argument as '1' (Ref. Article). How can we do the same thing in Entity Framework?
thanks
Why does SQL server 2008 always warn about needing to drop tables to rename columns? I was under impression this was not required unless it was a key. If I change a column from null to not null even if is not a key field it wants to drop table and all relations.
I recently encountered a problem in my production database due to MySQL bug. The bug is in the TimeStamp column. To avoid any inconvenience, I want to migrate the database to either Sql Server.
Is there any FREE tool to easily and reliably migrate data and table structures?
hi,
I need to extract data from my SQL Server database into multiple text files.
I have a table with 4 columns: UserID, UserName, Tag, Score.
I need to create a text file for each Tag (so basically I need to group by Tag and order by score).
Before to start I would like to know what's the fastest way to create several text files:
File titles = TAG field
each line = userID
Is there a way in SQL Server to parition over a date range?
I'm looking for something along these lines:
SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY RANGE(DateTimeField) INTERVAL(1))
I want to group rows that are within one day of each other.
We have server on Python and client + web service on Ruby. That works only if file from URL is less than 800 k. It seems like "socket.puts data" in a client works, but "output = socket.gets" - not. I think problem is in a Python part. For big files tests run "Connection reset by peer". Is it buffer size variable by default somewhere in a Python?
In sql server 2008, i have taken Full backup type of my database and database was successfully done.My question is while restoring it how can i check or know that my whole backup was perfect ?
I've got two database servers,
(1) production
(2) test
on the production database I get frequent deadlocks and I'm trying to find out what is causing it.
I take a backup of the database in production and restore it in test and when I perform the exact same scenario that yields deadlocks on the production server I am unable to reproduce in test.
any ideas/tips/hints would be much appreciated.
I have a SQL Server Express database that has a query that should return about 230 thousand rows.
Problem is the query returns about 5 more rows each time you run the query.
What would cause something like this?
I ran 'DBCC CHECKDB' but that did not change the behavior. Any ideas.
thanks
