    - by Jitesh
I have a table in db2 which has the following fields int xyz; string myId; string myName; Example dataset xyz | myid | myname -------------------------------- 1 | ABC.123.456 | ABC 2 | PRQS.12.34 | PQRS 3 | ZZZ.3.2.2 | blah I want to extract the rows where myName matches the character upto "." in the myId field. So from the above 3 rows, I want the firs 2 rows since myName is present in myId before "." How can I do this in the query, can I do some kind of pattern matching inside the query?

  • SQL Server 2008: If Multiple Values Set In Other Mutliple Values Set

    - by AJH
In SQL, is there anyway to accomplish something like this? This is based off a report built in SQL Server Report Builder, where the user can specify multiple text values as a single report parameter. The query for the report grabs all of the values the user selected and stores them in a single variable. I need a way for the query to return only records that have associations to EVERY value the user specified. -- Assume there's a table of Elements with thousands of entries. -- Now we declare a list of properties for those Elements to be associated with. create table #masterTable ( ElementId int, Text varchar(10) ) insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (1, 'Red'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (1, 'Coarse'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (1, 'Dense'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (2, 'Red'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (2, 'Smooth'); insert into #masterTable (ElementId, Text) values (2, 'Hollow'); -- Element 1 is Red, Coarse, and Dense. Element 2 is Red, Smooth, and Hollow. -- The real table is actually much much larger than this; this is just an example. -- This is me trying to replicate how SQL Server Report Builder treats -- report parameters in its queries. The user selects one, some, all, -- or no properties from a list. The written query treats the user's -- selections as a single variable called @Properties. -- Example scenario 1: User only wants to see Elements that are BOTH Red and Dense. select e.* from Elements e where (@Properties) --ideally a set containing only Red and Dense in (select Text from #masterTable where ElementId = e.Id) --ideally a set containing only Red, Coarse, and Dense --Both Red and Dense are within Element 1's properties (Red, Coarse, Dense), so Element 1 gets returned, but not Element 2. -- Example scenario 2: User only wants to see Elements that are BOTH Red and Hollow. select e.* from Elements e where (@Properties) --ideally a set containing only Red and Hollow in (select Text from #masterTable where ElementId = e.Id) --Both Red and Hollow are within Element 2's properties (Red, Smooth, Hollow), so Element 2 gets returned, but not Element 1. --Example Scenario 3: User only picked the Red option. select e.* from Elements e where (@Properties) --ideally a set containing only Red in (select Text from #masterTable where ElementId = e.Id) --Red is within both Element 1 and Element 2's properties, so both Element 1 and Element 2 get returned. The above syntax doesn't actually work because SQL doesn't seem to allow multiple values on the left side of the "in" comparison. Error that returns: Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression. Am I even on the right track here? Sorry if the example looks long-winded or confusing.

  • Oracle - correlated subquery problems

    - by FrustratedWithFormsDesigner
I have this query: select acc_num from (select distinct ac_outer.acc_num, ac_outer.owner from ac_tab ac_outer where (ac_outer.owner = '1234567') and ac_outer.owner = (select sq.owner from (select a1.owner from ac_tab a1 where a1.acc_num = ac_outer.acc_num order by a1.a_date desc, a1.b_date desc, a1.c_date desc) sq where rownum = 1) order by dbms_random.value()) subq order by acc_num; The idea is to get all acc_nums (not a primary key) from ac_tab, that have an owner of 1234567. Since an acc_num in ac_tab could have changed owners over time, I am trying to use the inner correlated subqueries to ensure that an acc_num is returned ONLY if it's most recent owner is 12345678. Naturally, it doesn't work (or I wouldn't be posting here ;) ) Oracle gives me an error: ORA-000904 ac_outer.acc_num is an invalid identifier. I thought that ac_outer should be visible to the correlated subqueries, but for some reason it's not. Is there a way to fix the query, or do I have to resort to PL/SQL to solve this? (Oracle verison is 10g)

  • Counting characters in an Access database column using SQL

    - by jzr
I have the following table col1 col2 col3 col4 ==== ==== ==== ===== 1233 4566 ABCD CDEF 1233 4566 ACD1 CDEF 1233 4566 D1AF CDEF I need to count the characters in col3, so from the data in the previous table it would be: char count ==== ===== A 3 B 1 C 2 D 3 F 1 1 2 Is this possible to achieve by using SQL only? At the moment I am thinking of passing a parameter in to SQL query and count the characters one by one and then sum, however I did not start the VBA part yet, and frankly wouldn't want to do that. This is my query at the moment: PARAMETERS X Long; SELECT First(Mid(TABLE.col3,X,1)) AS [col3 Field], Count(Mid(TABLE.col3,X,1)) AS Dcount FROM TEST GROUP BY Mid(TABLE.col3,X,1) HAVING (((Count(Mid([TABLE].[col3],[X],1)))>=1)); Ideas and help are much appreciated, as I don't usually work with Access and SQL.

  • Writing a post search algorithm.

    - by MdaG
I'm trying to write a free text search algorithm for finding specific posts on a wall (similar kind of wall as Facebook uses). A user is suppose to be able to write some words in a search field and get hits on posts that contain the words; with the best match on top and then other posts in decreasing order according to match score. I'm using the edit distance (Levenshtein) "e(x, y) = e" to calculate the score for each post when compared to the query word "x" and post word "y" according to: score(x, y) = 2^(2 - e)(1 - min(e, |x|) / |x|) Each word in a post contributes to the total score for that specific post. This approach seems to work well when the posts are of roughly the same size, but sometime certain large posts manages to rack up score solely on having a lot of words in them while in practice not being relevant to the query. Am I approaching this problem in the wrong way or is there some way to normalize the score that I haven't thought of?

  • SQl Server: serializable level not working

    - by Zé Carlos
I have the following SP: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_LockReader] AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; begin try set transaction isolation level serializable begin tran select * from teste commit tran end try begin catch rollback tran set transaction isolation level READ COMMITTED end catch set transaction isolation level READ COMMITTED END The table "test" has many values, so "select * from teste" takes several seconds. I run the sp_LockReader at same time in two diferent query windows and the second one starts showing test table contents without the first one terminates. Shouldn't serializeble level forces the second query to wait? How do i get the described behaviour? Thanks

  • code duplication in sql case statements

    - by NS
Hi I'm trying to output something like the following but am finding that there is a lot of code duplication going on. | australian_has_itch | kiwi_has_itch | | yes | no | | no | n/a | | n/a | no | ... My query looks like this with two case statements that do the same thing but flip the country (my real query has 5 of these case statements): SELECT CASE WHEN NOT EXISTS ( SELECT person_id FROM people_with_skin WHERE people_with_skin.person_id = people.person_id AND people.country = "Australia" ) THEN 'N/A' WHEN EXISTS ( SELECT person_id FROM itch_none_to_report WHERE people.country = "Australia" AND person_id = people.person_id ) THEN 'None to report' WHEN EXISTS ( SELECT person_id FROM itchy_people WHERE people.country = "Australia" AND person_id = people.person_id ) THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END australian_has_itch, CASE WHEN NOT EXISTS ( SELECT person_id FROM people_with_skin WHERE people_with_skin.person_id = people.person_id AND people.country = "NZ" ) THEN 'N/A' WHEN EXISTS ( SELECT person_id FROM itch_none_to_report WHERE people.country = "NZ" AND person_id = people.person_id ) THEN 'None to report' WHEN EXISTS ( SELECT person_id FROM itchy_people WHERE people.country = "NZ" AND person_id = people.person_id ) THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END kiwi_has_itch, FROM people Is there a way for me to condense this somehow and not have so much code duplication? Thanks!

  • Generic documentation guide-lines for implementation details

    - by mgj
Hi..:) For documentation and presentation purposes, we often find professionals/students creating SRS, coding guidelines etc. for these things there is some kind of a checklist which one could use to appropriately match what could relate to a specific case and accordingly one does a documentation for each. On those grounds could you please give me some sort of a checklist( any points/guidelines) one could use for going about Implementation( in the form of Implementation Details) in Python and C++ . Although this might sound specific as the query is "Implementation Details" and is different for different cases as one goes about the REAL implementation, I just want a SET of guidelines one should follow ( Preferably In Python, C++ specific, even for any other language is Welcome) if this( Implementation Details ) has to also be documented or presented. Hope the question is clear, I am sorry if it still sounds ambiguous, I guess this is the best I could do to frame my query. Thank you for your time...:)

  • Returning more than one result

    - by Hairr
I'm using the following code: def recentchanges(bot=False,rclimit=20): """ @description: Gets the last 20 pages edited on the recent changes and who the user who edited it """ recent_changes_data = { 'action':'query', 'list':'recentchanges', 'rcprop':'user|title', 'rclimit':rclimit, 'format':'json' } if bot is False: recent_changes_data['rcshow'] = '!bot' else: pass data = urllib.urlencode(recent_changes_data) response = opener.open('http://runescape.wikia.com/api.php',data) content = json.load(response) pages = tuple(content['query']['recentchanges']) for title in pages: return title['title'] When I do recentchanges() I only get one result. If I print it though, all the pages are printed. Am I just misunderstanding or is this something relating to python? Also, opener is: cj = CookieJar() opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(cj))

  • How to dynamically order many-to-many relationship in JPA or HQl?

    - by Indrek
I have a mapping like this: @ManyToMany(cascade = CascadeType.PERSIST) @JoinTable( name="product_product_catalog", joinColumns={@JoinColumn(name="product_catalog", referencedColumnName="product_catalog")}, inverseJoinColumns={@JoinColumn(name="product", referencedColumnName="product")}) public List<Product> products = new ArrayList<Product>(); I can fetch the products for the catalog nicely, but I can't (dynamically) order the products. How could I order them? I probably have to write a many-to-many HQL query with the order-by clause? I though of passing the orderBy field name string to the query, or is there a better solution? Tables are: products, product_catalog, product_product_catalog (associative table) P.S. Using Play! Framework JPASupport for my entities.

  • How to get all the fields of a row using the SQL MAX function?

    - by Yiannis Mpourkelis

  • Efficient synchronization of querying an array of resources

    - by Erel Segal Halevi
There is a list of N resources, each of them can be queried by at most a single thread at a time. There are serveral threads that need to do the same thing at approximately the same time: query each of the resources (each thread has a different query), in arbitrary order, and collect the responses. If each thread loops over the resources in the same order, from 0 to N-1, then they will probably have to wait for each other, which is not efficient. I thought of letting the threads loop over the resources in a random permutation, but this seems too complex and also not so efficient, for example, for 2 resources and 2 threads, in half the cases they will choose the same order and wait for each other. Is there a simple and more efficient way to solve this?

  • Removing duplicate SQL records to permit a unique key

    - by j pimmel
I have a table ('sales') in a MYSQL DB which should have rightfully have had a unique constraint enforced to prevent duplicates. To first remove the dupes and set the constraint is proving a bit tricky. Table structure (simplified): 'id (unique, autoinc)' product_id The goal is to enforce uniqueness for product_id. The de-duping policy I want to apply is to remove all duplicate records except the most recently created, eg: the highest id Or to put another way, I would like to delete duplicate records, excluding the ids matched by the following query: select id from sales s inner join (select product_id, max(id) as maxId from sales group by product_id having count(product_id) > 1) groupedByProdId on s.product_id and s.id = groupedByProdId.maxId I've struggled with this on two fronts - writing the query to select the correct records to delete and then also the constraint in MYSQL where a subselect FROM clause of a DELETE cannot reference the same table from which data is being removed.

  • Google App Engine PersistenceManager can process multiple objects ?

Or do I have to get and close pm for processing each object ?

  • Select data from three different tables with null data

    - by user3678972
I am new in Sql. My question is how to get data from three different tables with null values. I have tried a query as below: SELECT * FROM [USER] JOIN [Location] ON ([Location].UserId = [USER].Id) JOIN [ParentChild] ON ([ParentChild].UserId = [USER].Id) WHERE ParentId=7 which I find from this link. Its working fine but, it not fetches all and each data associated with the ParentId Something like it only fetches data which are available in all tables, but also omits some data which not available in Location tables but it comes under the given ParentId. For example: UserId ParentId 1 7 8 7 For userId 8, there is data available in Location table,so it fetches all data. But there is no data for userId 1 available in Location table, so the query didn't work for this. But I want all and every data. If there is no data for userId then it can return only null columns. Is it possible ?? hope everyone can understand my problem.

  • net.sf.hibernate.PropertyAccessException: Null value was assigned to a property of primitive type

    - by lot
Hi! What might be reasons for running in the quoted exception upon a HQL select, when there is actually no NULL value in the respective field in the database? I've checked the database multiple times. I've manually submitted the query statement produced by hibernate (extracted from debug). Null values for the respective field are actually never returned. However, the corresponding row in the database is in fact nullable. Does hibernate care about the data base definition? I know, I could simple change the filed to a wrapper type, but we have a number of such fields in a legacy application and this only occurs upon a single query. I'm just wondering about the actual reason for getting this exception only with a single property. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

  • toplink prefixes table with TL_ while update operation

    - by Dewfy
I have very simple named query on JPA (toplink ): UPDATE Server s SET s.isECM = 0 I don't carry about cache or validity of already preloaded entities. But database connection is performed from restricted account (only INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE). It is appeared that toplink on this query executes (and failed since TL_Server is not exists) very strange SQL: INSERT INTO TL_Server (elementId, IsECM) SELECT t0.ElementId, ? FROM Element t0, Server t1 WHERE ((t1.elementId = t0.ElementId) AND (t0.elementType = ?)) bind => [0, Server] What is this? How the simple UPDATE appears an INSERT? Why toplink queries TL_?

  • Get unique artist names from MPMediaQuery

    - by Akash Malhotra
I am using MPMediaQuery to get all artists from library. Its returning unique names I guess but the problem is I have artists in my library like "Alice In Chains" and "Alice In Chains ". The second "Alice In Chains" has some white spaces at the end, so it returns both. I dont want that. Heres the code... MPMediaQuery *query=[MPMediaQuery artistsQuery]; NSArray *artists=[query collections]; artistNames=[[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; for(MPMediaItemCollection *collection in artists) { MPMediaItem *item=[collection representativeItem]; [artistNames addObject:[item valueForProperty:MPMediaItemPropertyArtist]]; } uniqueNames=[[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; for(id object in artistNames) { if(![uniqueNames containsObject:object]) { [uniqueNames addObject:object]; } } Any ideas?

I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

  • Select a row having a column with max value - On a date range

    - by Abhi
Excuse me for posting a similar question. Please consider this: date value 18/5/2010, 1 pm 40 18/5/2010, 2 pm 20 18/5/2010, 3 pm 60 18/5/2010, 4 pm 30 18/5/2010, 5 pm 60 18/5/2010, 6 pm 25 19/5/2010, 6 pm 300 19/5/2010, 6 pm 450 19/5/2010, 6 pm 375 20/5/2010, 6 pm 250 20/5/2010, 6 pm 310 The query is to get the date and value for each day such that the value obtained for that day is max. If the max value is repeated on that day, the lowest time stamp is selected. The result should be like: 18/5/2010, 3 pm 60 19/5/2010, 6 pm 450 20/5/2010, 6 pm 310 The query should take in a date range like the one given below and find results for that range in the above fashion: where date = to_date('26/03/2010','DD/MM/YYYY') AND date < to_date('27/03/2010','DD/MM/YYYY')

  • GQL, Aggregation and Order By

    - by Koran
Hi, How can GQL support ORDER BY when it does not support aggregation? The question is - if say the result of the query is more than 1000, does ORDER BY return fully ordered list or only the first 1000 items which is then ordered? To explain the question more: is conceptually MIN() same as query.orderby('asc').fetch(1)? If it is properly ordering the list, then how can it not provide COUNT(), since to properly order the list, GQL possibly has to parse through the whole list - in which case, COUNT() is not an issue at all? Or is item indexed and kept in some type of tree so that it does not need to parse it all the time?

  • Java Session Like Object

    - by scriptmonster
I have been developing a project and in this project i have designed my code to do the same job after a specified time interval continuously. The job that wanted to be done has a lot of distinct cycles. The interval is small to execute them normally thus i used threads. Until that point everything is clear for me. To decrease the process and information transaction i wanted to put an session like object that holds the given data and provide it to any thread at anytime. With this object i plan to not query the same configuration information from database at everytime but if it exists on the session take it else query and store on session. I'm not sure how to implement this structure. Regards,

  • Display another field in the referenced table for multiple columns with performance issues in mind

    - by israkir
    I have a table of edge like this: ------------------------------- | id | arg1 | relation | arg2 | ------------------------------- | 1 | 1 | 3 | 4 | ------------------------------- | 2 | 2 | 6 | 5 | ------------------------------- where arg1, relation and arg2 reference to the ids of objects in another object table: -------------------- | id | object_name | -------------------- | 1 | book | -------------------- | 2 | pen | -------------------- | 3 | on | -------------------- | 4 | table | -------------------- | 5 | bag | -------------------- | 6 | in | -------------------- What I want to do is that, considering performance issues (a very big table more than 50 million of entries) display the object_name for each edge entry rather than id such as: --------------------------- | arg1 | relation | arg2 | --------------------------- | book | on | table | --------------------------- | pen | in | bag | --------------------------- What is the best select query to do this? Also, I am open to suggestions for optimizing the query - adding more index on the tables etc... EDIT: Based on the comments below: 1) @Craig Ringer: PostgreSQL version: 8.4.13 and only index is id for both tables. 2) @andrefsp: edge is almost x2 times bigger than object.

  • Retrieving Top 10 rows ans sum all others in row 11

    - by Mario
Hello all, I have the following query that retrieve the number of users per country; SELECT C.CountryID AS CountryID, C.CountryName AS Country, Count(FirstName) AS Origin FROM Users AS U INNER JOIN Country AS C ON C.CountryID = U.CountryOfOrgin GROUP BY CASE C.CountryName, C.CountryID What I need is a way to get the top 10 and then sum all other users in a single row. I know how to get the top 10 but I`m stuck on getting the remaining in a single row. Is there a simple way to do it? For example if the above query returns 17 records the top ten are displayed and a sum of the users from the 7 remaining country should appear on row 11. On that row 11 the countryid would be 0 and countryname Others Thanks for your help!
