• System.UnauthorizedAccessException from Serial Port in VB.NET

  I am using VB.NET 2008 Express Edition to access Serial Port which is a USB to Serial port. Since this is removable, the app user can disconnect it at any time in app. I am getting an unhandled exception when I remove the USB Serial Port. After research, it seems like a known problem in .NET (even in 3.5) I am looking for some solution to get this done. • SecurityException when trying to export a java resource

  I'm trying to get the source of a java resource stored in an oracle database using this code (connecting as SYSTEM for testing): DECLARE javalob CLOB; BEGIN DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY(javalob, false); DBMS_JAVA.EXPORT_RESOURCE('RESOURCENAME', 'SCHEMA', javalob); DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(javalob); END; But when I try to run it I get this: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.SecurityException: cannot read <Resource Handle: RESOURCENAME|SCHEMA|301> because SYSTEM does not have execute privilege on it This thing is, I'm not sure how to grant permissions on <Resource Handle: RESOURCENAME|SCHEMA|301>, as this isn't a SQL or PL/SQL object. And why doesn't SYSTEM have access to it anyway?

• Embedded strongly-typed views with ASP.NET MVC

  I'm working on a plugin-type of system for ASP.NET MVC that loads views from an embedded assembly. I have created a VirtualPathProvider that does the work of retrieving out of the assembly. Everything is working fine except for strongly-typed views. Whenever I try to load one of those, I get an exception of: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'. The problem is that there is no Web.config file under the Views folder. Well, actually there is, but the system doesn't seem to want to read the embedded version. If I manually create the file under the corresponding directory in the web app, everything is fine. This isn't an acceptable workaround however, as each plugin would need its own file in its own specific directory. Does anyone know how I might get ASP to read the embedded Web.config file? • Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

  Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

  Hello all, I was wondering what is the better method for Casting objects for C#: MyClassName test = (MyClassName)object; MyClassName test = object as MyClassName; I know already that if you do the first way, you get an exception, and the second way it sets test as null. However, I was wondering why do one over the other? I see the first way a lot, but I like how the second way because then I can check for null... If there isn't a 'better way' of doing it, what are the guidelines for using one way or the other?

This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. I've got a C#/java background, and I'm lost... Any help would be much appreciated.

• Can't DER encode and BER decode RSA public key

  I have problems using Crypto++ to save a RSA public key (that I obtained loading a private key file in PKCS#8 format). When decoding the key, I always get a BERDecodeErr exception. How do you do to save or open the public key? • JAX-WS: when input soap validation fails

  I have created a web service with JAX-WS. When the input SOAP message is not well formed or can not be validated, a soap fault is returned automatically to the caller. I dont want the caller to receive this standard SOAP message but i want to create an own custom SOAP fault. So if the call looks like this (note Envelope1, its not valid): hello a default return message is something like this: S:Client Couldn't create SOAP message due to exception: unexpected XML tag. expected: {http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/}Envelope but found: {http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/}Envelope1 I want the return message to be something like this: S:Client My own custom SOAP message! I have tried to get this to work the whole day, but i cant figure out how to do it. So if someone could help me I would be really glad!

  I'm trying to find the actual class of a django-model object, when using model-inheritance. Some code to describe the problem: class Base(models.model): def basemethod(self): ... class Child_1(Base): pass class Child_2(Base): pass If I create various objects of the two Child classes and the create a queryset containing them all: Child_1().save() Child_2().save() (o1, o2) = Base.objects.all() I want to determine if the object is of type Child_1 or Child_2 in basemethod, I can get to the child object via o1.child_1 and o2.child_2 but that reconquers knowledge about the childclasses in the baseclass. I have come up with the following code: def concrete_instance(self): instance = None for subclass in self._meta.get_all_related_objects(): acc_name = subclass.get_accessor_name() try: instance = self.__getattribute__(acc_name) return instance except Exception, e: pass But it feels brittle and I'm not sure of what happens when if I inherit in more levels.

  Hello, I am using LINQ-To-Entities in C# and run queries against a SQL Compact Server 3.5 SP2. What I try to achieve is a simple group by with an additional where clause which includes a Count(). var baseIdent="expression"; var found=from o in ObservedElements where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent==baseIdent group o by o.ID into grouped where grouped.Count()==1 select new {key=grouped.Key, val=grouped}; foreach(var res in found){ //do something here } This query throws the famous exception "A parameter is not allowed in this location. Ensure that the '@' sign and all other parameters are in a valid location in the SQL statement." When I either omit the where clause OR directly enter the expression "expression" in the query (where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent=="expression") everything just works fine. Does anybody know how to solve this? Workaround would also be fine? Thanks in advance, Sebastian

  Hi, Imagine the obvious model of employees and departments, where each employee must refer to a single department, and each department may have none to many employees. For Employee I have a pointer to Department, and I set its value to the address of the object of the relevant Department. When I try to save the Employee I get an error: 2010-04-07 10:05:22.491 CoreData2[1112:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: Department)' I tried, just for testing, to make the reference from Employee to Department optional, but I get the same result.   I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters from TextBoxeslike so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly?

  Hi, I am new to Subsonic, I have configured Subsonic3.0 T4 Template and created classes for my project. I have taken GridView and Object Datasource. Object datasource will connect to the one of the classes which is created from subsonic. I have set object datasource for g\fetch, Insert, Update and delete methods. Then i set the datasource of grid witht he object datasource. Grid view successfully showing me all the records. But at the time of Update, Insert or delete it throws an exception that "Can not ceate an instance of an interface". And also i am not able to dwbug in the code of the subsonic. May be because of partial classes. Can anyone please let me know what is happening at the backgrund? Or may be one can give me sample example which contains subsonic 3.0 and grid add, edit and delete so it will be really helpful for me.... Please... :) Thanks, George

When task is executed by scheduler it is starting a global transaction, but in our application we are creating a new connection to another database and explicitly commiting the data and closing the connection. This data source configured using non-XA driver datasource. For the application we have also enabled the Accept heuristic hazard (Last participant support extension) . Now while running the scheudler we are getting the exception DSRA9350E: Operation Connection.commit is not allowed during a global transaction . Can any one help me out in this

• When is a scala partial function not a partial function?

  While creating a map of String to partial functions I ran into unexpected behavior. When I create a partial function as a map element it works fine. When I allocate to a val it invokes instead. Trying to invoke the check generates an error. Is this expected? Am I doing something dumb? Comment out the check() to see the invocation. If this data-binding returns null for valid input - the null value is then casted to empty string (in a text control for example)? The index 0 corresponds to the first error message.   I have been tasked with building a new web project from scratch, with the exception of reusing CSS files (the look and feel) from an existing project. In the past I have always completed development of the functionality and the web-ui before considering the appearance. This is mostly due to CSS development overlapping with the tail end of the project. I now have the opportunity to integrate a static set of CSS as I build the application. I have no experience with this circumstance. Would it be faster to develop the project and web-pages first, then integrate the CSS; or would it be faster to integrate the CSS as part of page development?

When I checked the Thread count in perfmon there was around 7000 threads created in worker process.   I'm helping a friend with a java problem. However, we've hit a snag. We're using Java.Util.Scanner.nextInt() to get a number from the user, asking continiously if the user gives anything else. Only problem is, we can't figure out how to do the error handeling.
