  • Why apache throws 403 on index file after install?

    - by den-javamaniac
Hi. I've just installed apache and php from sources using next commands: ./configure --prefix="/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17" \ --enable-info --enable-rewrite --enable-usertrack --enable-mime-magic for apache and ./configure --with-apxs2=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/bin/apxs \ --prefix=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/php \ --with-config-file-path=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/php \ --with-mysql=mysqlnd for php. After adjusting configuration (httpd.conf) and starting apache it gives a 403 response on http://localhost:8060/index.html (presuming that 8060 is used) request. There are next directory settings in httpd.conf: <Directory "/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/htdocs"> ... Order allow, deny Allow from all ... </Directory> <IfModule dir_module> DirectoryIndex index.html index.php </IfModule> It should be noted that I've got apache on a mounted (default auto mount configured while installing ubuntu) partition. • How do hdparm's -S and -B options interact?

    - by user697683
These two options seem confusing. For example: according to the man page -B 254 "does not permit spin-down". However, testing with -B 254 -S 1 the drive does spin down after 5 seconds. -B Query/set Advanced Power Management feature, if the drive supports it. A low value means aggressive power management and a high value means better performance. Possible settings range from values 1 through 127 (which permit spin-down), and values 128 through 254 (which do not permit spin-down). The highest degree of power management is attained with a setting of 1, and the highest I/O performance with a setting of 254. A value of 255 tells hdparm to disable Advanced Power Management altogether on the drive (not all drives support disabling it, but most do). -S Put the drive into idle (low-power) mode, and also set the standby (spindown) timeout for the drive. This timeout value is used by the drive to determine how long to wait (with no disk activity) before turning off the spindle motor to save power. Under such circumstances, the drive may take as long as 30 seconds to respond to a subsequent disk access, though most drives are much quicker. The encoding of the timeout value is somewhat peculiar. A value of zero means "timeouts are disabled": the device will not automatically enter standby mode. Values from 1 to 240 specify multiples of 5 seconds, yielding timeouts from 5 seconds to 20 minutes. Values from 241 to 251 specify from 1 to 11 units of 30 minutes, yielding timeouts from 30 minutes to 5.5 hours. A value of 252 signifies a timeout of 21 minutes. A value of 253 sets a vendor-defined timeout period between 8 and 12 hours, and the value 254 is reserved. 255 is interpreted as 21 minutes plus 15 seconds. Note that some older drives may have very different interpretations of these values.

  • black backgrounds appear grey on gnome-terminal

    - by Martin DeMello
Running gnome under Ubuntu Lucid $ env | grep TERM TERM=xterm COLORTERM=gnome-terminal I had to edit both my .muttrc and my vim colorscheme to change the background color from black to none in order to get a proper black background (or, more accurately, to retain the terminal's default black background). Setting it to black resulted in a dark grey background. This only happens with gnome-terminal; konsole, xterm and rxvt are fine.

  • How to automate kinit process to obtain TGT for Kerberos?

    - by tore-
I'm currently writing a puppet module to automate the process of joining RHEL servers to an AD domain, with support for Kerberos. Currently I have problems with automatically obtain and cache Kerberos ticket-granting ticket via 'kinit'. If this were to be done manually, I would do this: kinit [email protected] This prompts for the AD user password, hence there is a problem with automate this. How can i automate this? I've found some posts mentioning using kadmin to create a database with the ad users password in it, but I've had no luck. Thanks for input

  • Running phpmyadmin and suphp

    - by thor
I have a Debian Lenny web server. It is running apache2 with libapache2-mod-suphp. Unfortunately, suphp makes impossible to use phpmyadmin, as phpmyadmin is installed in /usr/share/phpmyadmin and owned by root, and suphp disables it's enging in this direcory: $ cat /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/suphp.conf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .php4 .php5 .phtml suPHP_AddHandler application/x-httpd-php <Directory /> suPHP_Engine on </Directory> # By default, disable suPHP for debian packaged web applications as files # are owned by root and cannot be executed by suPHP because of min_uid. <Directory /usr/share> suPHP_Engine off </Directory> </IfModule> Is there a possibility to enable system phpmyadmin (may be through standard libapache2-mod-php5) while using suphp? How?

  • Script launching 3 copies of rsync

    - by organicveggie
I have a simple script that uses rsync to copy a Postgres database to a backup location for use with Point In Time Recovery. The script is run every 2 hours via a cron job for the postgres user. For some strange reason, I can see three copies of rsync running in the process list. Any ideas why this might the case? Here's the cron entry: # crontab -u postgres -l PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin 0 */2 * * * /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/pitr_backup.sh And here's the ps list, which shows two copies of rsync running and one sleeping: # ps ax |grep rsync 9102 ? R 2:06 rsync -avW /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/data/ /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/backups/pitr_archives/20110629100001/ --exclude pg_xlog --exclude recovery.conf --exclude recovery.done --exclude pg_log 9103 ? S 0:00 rsync -avW /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/data/ /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/backups/pitr_archives/20110629100001/ --exclude pg_xlog --exclude recovery.conf --exclude recovery.done --exclude pg_log 9104 ? R 2:51 rsync -avW /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/data/ /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/backups/pitr_archives/20110629100001/ --exclude pg_xlog --exclude recovery.conf --exclude recovery.done --exclude pg_log And here's the uber simple script that seems to be the cause of the problem: #!/bin/sh LOG="/var/log/pgsql-pitr-backup.log" base_backup_dir="/var/lib/pgsql/9.0/backups" wal_archive_dir="$base_backup_dir/wal_archives" pitr_archive_dir="$base_backup_dir/pitr_archives" timestamp=`date +%Y%m%d%H%M%S` backup_dir="$pitr_archive_dir/$timestamp" mkdir -p $backup_dir echo `date` >> $LOG /usr/bin/psql -U postgres -c "SELECT pg_start_backup('$backup_dir');" rsync -avW /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/data/ $backup_dir/ --exclude pg_xlog --exclude recovery.conf --exclude recovery.done --exclude pg_log /usr/bin/psql -U postgres -c "SELECT pg_stop_backup();"

  • monitoring changes in windows of screen while screen is detached

    - by gojira
It is possible to monitor windows in screen (I mean the terminal multiplexer called screen) with Ctrl-a M. However, I am only aware of the notification when I am looking at any window. What I want, though, is to somehow also be notified if the screen in question has been detached with Ctrl-a d. I.e., I issue the command to monitor a window in screen, then detach that screen, now I want to get a notification if the monitor detects activity, in some form (a string in the bash I'm using, or an email, or anything). Is this possible, and if yes how?

  • Wireless disconnects at random after upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4

    - by Daniel Elessedil Kjeserud
After upgrading my home server from Ubuntu 8.10 to 10.4 my wireless seemingly drops out, even though my IRC client keeps it's connection to the servers, so it looks like the machine just stops taking wireless requests. A ping will give a me this Request timeout for icmp_seq 27 ping: sendto: Host is down After a while the machine just starts responding again, without any interaction from me. • Connection Timed Out - Simple outbound Postfix for PHP Contact form

    - by BLaZuRE
Alright, so I only got Postfix for a PHP contact form that will send email to a single . I only want it to send out mail to a single external address ([email protected]). I have domain sub1.sub2.domain.com. I installed Postfix out of the Ubuntu repo, with minimal config changes. I cannot get Postfix to send mail externally (though it succeeds for internal accounts, which is unnecessary). The email simply defers if I generate an email using PHP mail(). If I try to form my own in telnet, right after rcpt to: [email][email protected][/email], I get a postfix/smtpd[31606]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from localhost[127.0.0.1]: 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: example.com; from=<root@localhost> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<localhost> when commenting out default_transport = error and relay_transport = error lines, I get the following: Jun 26 14:33:00 sub1 postfix/smtp[12191]: 2DA06F88206A: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=514, delays=409/0.01/105/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to aspmx3.googlemail.com[74.125.127.27]:25: Connection timed out) Jun 26 14:36:36 sub1 postfix/smtp[12225]: connect to mta7.am0.yahoodns.net[98.139.175.224]:25: Connection timed out Jun 26 14:38:00 sub1 postfix/smtp[12225]: 22952F88208E: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=655, delays=550/0.01/105/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to mta5.am0.yahoodns.net[67.195.168.230]:25: Connection timed out) My main.cf # See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name. • Network problems with Ubuntu on VMware

    - by svick
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 inside VMware Player running under Windows Vista and I can't connect to the internet or the host computer from the Ubuntu. I have set all the VMware services to “manual” (like VMware DHCP Service), but starting them manually doesn't help. In VMware, the network seems to work (there is a green dot beside the network icon) and I have tried both Bridged and NAT settings. ifconfig doesn't show the eth1 interface, unless I give it as a parameter (or use -a). I think this means that Ubuntu thinks that the network isn't connected at all. How do I fix this? ifconvadmin@ubu1004:~$ ifconfig lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:56 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:56 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:4192 (4.1 KB) TX bytes:4192 (4.1 KB) vadmin@ubu1004:~$ ifconfig eth1 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0c:29:2d:a0:6f BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:18 Base address:0x2000

  • pptpd configuration

    - by Ian R.
    I would like a little help on configuring pptp so I can use my server as a vpn server since I have 10 ip's on it and I travel a lot so that would really help me and my partners. I managed to install everything needed but my vpn client fails to connect due to some reason that I cannot understand. I know there are 2 files in pptp that you're supposed to edit so I will post my 2 files here: /etc/ppp/pptpd-options name pptpd refuse-pap refuse-chap refuse-mschap require-mschap-v2 require-mppe-128 proxyarp nodefaultroute lock nobsdcomp /etc/pptpd.conf option /etc/ppp/pptpd-options logwtmp localip xx.158.177.231 remoteip xx.158.177.103,xx.158.177.116,xx.158.177.121,xx.158.177.124,xx.158.177.125,xx.158.177.131,xx.158.177.134,xx.158.177.139,xx.158.177.142,xx.158.177.145 interfaces file eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.231 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 inet6 addr: xx80::216:3eff:fe51:31ba/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:56352 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3xx15 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:4884030 (4.8 MB) TX bytes:6780974 (6.7 MB) Interrupt:16 eth0:1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.103 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.116 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:3 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.121 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:4 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.124 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:5 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.125 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:6 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.131 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:7 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.134 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:8 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.139 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:9 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.142 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 eth0:10 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3e:51:31:ba inet addr:xx.158.177.145 Bcast:xx.158.177.255 Mask:255.255.254.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:16 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:286 (286.0 B) TX bytes:286 (286.0 B)

  • ssh connection operation timed out using rsync

    - by Mark Molina
I use rsync to backup my remote server on my local device but when I combine it with a cron job my ssh times out. Just to be clear, the data is stored on a remote server and I want it stored on my local server. The backup request must be sent from my local server to the remote server. The command for backup up the data is working when I just type it in terminal like this: rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP but when I combine it with a cron job like this: 10 11 * * * rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IP_ADDRESS: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP the ssh connection times out. When the cronjob executes it send a mail to the root user with the output like this: From local.xx.xx.xx Tue Jul 2 11:20:17 2013 X-Original-To: username Delivered-To: [email protected] From: [email protected] (Cron Daemon) To: [email protected] Subject: Cron <username@server> rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP X-Cron-Env: <SHELL=/bin/sh> X-Cron-Env: <PATH=/usr/bin:/bin> X-Cron-Env: <LOGNAME=username> X-Cron-Env: <USER=username> X-Cron-Env: <HOME=/Users/username> Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2013 11:20:17 +0200 (CEST) ssh: connect to host IP_ADDRESS port XX: Operation timed out rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver] rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-42/rsync/io.c(452) [receiver=2.6.9] So the rsync command is working when just typed in terminal but not when used by a cronjob. Can anybody explain this?

  • Automatically mounting windows share in Fedora 12

    - by user15865
Hi, I'm trying to automatically mount a windows share in a Fedora 12 instance (FC12). When I manually mount things work: mount -t cifs //nas01/servers -o username=guest, password=myPassword /mnt/nas01/servers If I update /etc/fstab with the following: //nas01/servers /mnt/nas01/servers cifs username=guest, password=myPassword 0 0 Nothing happens after reboot. The thing that has me baffled is after a reboot if I run: mount -a The share is mounted. Any ideas on this? Thank you, Martin

  • placing shell script under systemd control

    - by Calvin Cheng
    Assuming I have a shell script like this:- #!/bin/sh # cherrypy_server.sh PROCESSES=10 THREADS=1 # threads per process BASE_PORT=3035 # the first port used # you need to make the PIDFILE dir and insure it has the right permissions PIDFILE="/var/run/cherrypy/myproject.pid" WORKDIR=`dirname "$0"` cd "$WORKDIR" cp_start_proc() { N=$1 P=$(( $BASE_PORT + $N - 1 )) ./manage.py runcpserver daemonize=1 port=$P pidfile="$PIDFILE-$N" threads=$THREADS request_queue_size=0 verbose=0 } cp_start() { for N in `seq 1 $PROCESSES`; do cp_start_proc $N done } cp_stop_proc() { N=$1 #[ -f "$PIDFILE-$N" ] && kill `cat "$PIDFILE-$N"` [ -f "$PIDFILE-$N" ] && ./manage.py runcpserver pidfile="$PIDFILE-$N" stop rm -f "$PIDFILE-$N" } cp_stop() { for N in `seq 1 $PROCESSES`; do cp_stop_proc $N done } cp_restart_proc() { N=$1 cp_stop_proc $N #sleep 1 cp_start_proc $N } cp_restart() { for N in `seq 1 $PROCESSES`; do cp_restart_proc $N done } case "$1" in "start") cp_start ;; "stop") cp_stop ;; "restart") cp_restart ;; *) "$@" ;; esac From the bash script, we can essentially do 3 things: start the cherrypy server by calling ./cherrypy_server.sh start stop the cherrypy server by calling ./cherrypy_server.sh stop restart the cherrypy server by calling ./cherrypy_server.sh restart How would I place this shell script under systemd's control as a cherrypy.service file (with the obvious goal of having systemd start up the cherrypy server when a machine has been rebooted)? Reference systemd service file example here - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd#Using_service_file

  • DVD ROM is not working

    - by Cyril N.
(note: I don't know in which StackExchange site to put this question, I'll thank the moderator that will move it to a more appropriate place, if there is a S.E. available for my question). I have a DVD RW drive that is well listed in the bios, and if no CD is in, it is also present in the "My Computer" of my Fedora 16. But when I put a disc on it, the icon disapear from "My Computer", and I can not do anything with this ! (Like erasing a RW disc). I'd like to boot a Fedora 17 Live CD image. I burned it on an other computer but when I try to run it in bios, nothing is done and I'm redirected to Grub of my HD. The command cdrecord -scanbus shows this : wodim: Warning: controller returns wrong size for CD capabilities page. wodim: Cannot get CD capabilities data. 6,1,0 601) 'HD-DT%ST' 'DVD%RAM G@22NP20' '1&04' Removable CD-ROM And when I try to mount manually the disc, I got this error : mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: /dev/sr0: can't read superblock Here's a paste of dmesg | grep sr0 : [ 5.161265] sr0: scsi-1 drive [ 5.161621] sr 6:0:1:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 [ 834.545978] sr0: Hmm, seems the drive doesn't support multisession CD's [ 841.731194] sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: Get configuration 46 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 [ 842.021640] sr 6:0:1:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE [ 842.021652] sr 6:0:1:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Aborted Command [current] [ 842.021662] sr 6:0:1:0: [sr0] Add. I then changed the IDE cable, but still no success. What can I do to make it work? Thanks for your help.

  • squid running out of sockets

    - by drscroogemcduck
I have a setup where squid sits in front of a java server and acts as a reverse proxy. Recently i've load tested the site and if i fire 100 threads at it each making a request using jmeter i start getting errors in my load test tool like 'no route to host' even though the load test tool and the server are on the same machine. if i run the following command where port 82 is the port my squid server is running on: netstat -ann | grep 82 | wc -l i get 22000 or something and most of them are in TIMED_WAIT. i'm thinking that maybe the huge number of sockets in the TIMED_WAIT state are starving the box of resources.
