  • What would keep a Microsoft Word AutoNew() macro from running?

    I'm using Microsoft Office 2003 and creating a bunch of template documents to standardize some tasks. I know it's standard practice to put the templates in an certain place Office expects to find them but that won't work for me. What I want is to have "My Template Foo.dot" and "My Template Bar.dot", etc. in the "My Foo Bar Stuff" on a shared drive and users will double click on the template to create a new Foo or Bar. What's I'd really like is for the user to double click on the Foo template and be prompted for a couple of items related to their task (e.g., a project number) and have a script in the template change the name that Save will default to something like "Foo for Project 1234.doc". I asked on Google Groups and got an answer that worked....for a while. Then my AutoNew macro stopped kicking in when I created a new document by double clicking on the template. I have no idea why or how to debug it. I'm a software engineering with 25+ years of experience but a complete Office automation noob. Specific solutions and pointers to "this is how to automate Word" FAQs are welcome. Thanks.

  • Add and remove letterhead in Word document

    Our company has letterheaded paper (pre-printed paper with our logo on it). Whenever we send something out by mail, we print it on that paper. However, when we send the same document via email, we convert it to a PDF file. Now the problem is: when converting a Word document to PDF, it should contain the letterhead. When printing the same document on paper, it should not (or else the letterhead would be printed twice). Currently, we are using two different Word document templates - one with letterhead, one without. So whenever we want to add or remove the letterhead, we have to create a new document with the other template and copy and paste everything over. Nasty solution. What I'm looking for is some simple way to switch the letterhead on and off. What I've tried so far: Switching the template: There does not seem to be a simple way to switch the template for an existing document. Using a picture watermark: Our letterhead goes all the way to the border of the page. (No printer supports this, of course, but it is fine for export to PDF.) Apparently depending on the current default printer, Word will not allow a borderless watermark, instead shifting the image around. Using the page header: When editing the page header, I can insert pictures at arbitrary positions, which is great. However, I could not find a way (short of macros) to enable/disable just the pictures in the header. (The text should remain there.)

    I have a pretty straightforward excel document in which I need to use the data in an iPhone app. The xls document has 6 columns, 200 plus rows. I would like to create a plist from the xls document and other than manual copy/paste, is there a means to convert one to the other? Anyone written a macro on the excel side or a utility (perl, etc) to make such a conversion? Thanks John iPhoneDevTips

    OK I'm completely stumped here: I have installed (and reinstalled) ASP.NET MVC2 installed several times and I still can't see the ASP.NET MVC2 project templates shown in Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I had checked the default project directory templates and had verified that those templates are installed, for example these templates files are found C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\VWDExpress\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Web\1033: EmptyMvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip MvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip Any idea of tracking what's the problem and fix it?

    I am using win32com.client in Python to send an email. However I want the body of the email to be a table (HTML- formatted table), I can do it in an Excel first and then copy and paste (but how?), or directly edit the corresponding Pandas data frame. newMail.body = my_table which is a Pandas data frame didn't work. When we install the application on Windows 2008 server we get the following error while trying to open crystal report in excel format Error is : Error in File :"....rpt" Error detected by export DLL. The report opens up fine in PDF on server Opeing report in Excel works fine on my local(development) machine...But this error is thrown on server...     When using Excel (2003) to provide data for my unit tests it seems to think that when a cell has TRUE / FALSE value that it is null when there has been no preceding cell values e.g. if (TestContext.DataRow["SatisfactionExtremelySatisfied"] != DBNull.Value) model.SatisfactionExtremelySatisfied = (bool)TestContext.DataRow ["SatisfactionExtremelySatisfied"]; Sample Excel Data DataRow SatisfactionExtremelySatisfied 0 1 2 TRUE 3 TRUE When reading the test data using OLEDB the cells with TRUE hold no value but when the preceding cells have the value FALSE entered it correctly gets the values TRUE. Am I missing something?
