  • c#-excel interop - create chart on workbook as opposed to in a sheet

    - by david.barkhuizen
Using c# MS Excel interop library, I would like to programmatically create a new chart on the workbook, as opposed to on an a sheet. The code below allows me to create a chart on an existing _Worksheet (sheet). using using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel; _Worksheet sheet; (assume this is a reference to a valid _Worksheet object) ChartObjects charts = (ChartObjects)sheet.ChartObjects(Type.Missing); ChartObject chartObject = (ChartObject)charts.Add(10, 80, 300, 250); Chart chart = chartObject.Chart; chart.ChartType = XlChartType.xlXYScatter; Does anyone know how to rather go about creating a chart on the workbook (i.e. where the chart is the sheet).

  • How to create custom get and set methods for Linq2SQL object

    - by optician
I have some objects which have been created automatically by linq2SQL. I would like to write some code which should be run whenever the properties on these objects are read or changed. Can I use typical get { //code } and set {//code } in my partial class file to add this functionality? Currently I get an error about this member already being defined. This all makes sense. Is it correct that I will have to create a method to function as the entry point for this functionality, as I cannot redefine the get and set methods for this property. I was hoping to just update the get and set, as this would mean I wouldn't have to change all the reference points in my app. But I think I may just have to update it everywhere.

  • jQuery - Add click event to Div and go to first link found

    - by LuckyShot
Hi guys, I think I've been too much time looking at this function and just got stuck trying to figure out the nice clean way to do it. It's a jQuery function that adds a click event to any div with a click CSS class found in the page and when clicked it redirects the user to the first link found in the div. function clickabledivs() { $('.click').each( function (intIndex) { $(this).bind("click", function(){ window.location = $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ).attr('href'); }); } ); } The code simply works although I'm pretty sure there is a fairly better way to accomplish it, specially the selector I am using: $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ) looks too long and slow. Any ideas? Please let me know if you need more details. Thanks! PS: I've got some jQuery benchmarking reference from Project2k.de here: http://blog.projekt2k.de/2010/01/benchmarking-jquery-1-4/

  • Returning an anonymous class that uses a final primitive. How does it work?

    - by Tim P
Hi, I was wondering if someone could explain how the following code works: public interface Result { public int getCount(); public List<Thing> getThings(); } class SomeClass { ... public Result getThingResult() { final List<Thing> things = .. populated from something. final int count = 5; return new Result { @Override public int getCount() { return count; } @Override public List<Thing> getThings(); return things; } } } ... } Where do the primitive int , List reference and List instance get stored in memory? It can't be on the stack.. so where? Is there a difference between how references and primitives are handled in this situation? Thanks a bunch, Tim P.

  • Occasional InterruptedException when quitting a Swing application

    - by Joonas Pulakka
I recently updated my computer to a more powerful one, with a quad-core hyperthreading processor (i7), thus plenty of real concurrency available. Now I'm occasionally getting the following error when quitting (System.exit(0)) an application (with a Swing GUI) that I'm developing: Exception while removing reference: java.lang.InterruptedException java.lang.InterruptedException at java.lang.Object.wait(Native Method) at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java:118) at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java:134) at sun.java2d.Disposer.run(Disposer.java:125) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Well, given that it started to happen with a more concurrency-capable hardware, and it has to do with threads, and it happens occasionally, it's obviously some kind of timing thing. But the problem is that the stack trace is so short. All I have is the listing above. It doesn't include my own code at all, so it's somewhat hard to guess where the bug is. Has anyone experienced something like this before? Any ideas how to start solving it?

  • Static libraries, dynamic libraries, DLLs, entry points, headers ... how to get out of this alive?

    - by tunnuz
Hello, I recently had to program C++ under Windows for an University project, and I'm pretty confused about static and dynamic libraries system, what the compiler needs, what the linker needs, how to build a library ... is there any good document about this out there? I'm pretty confused about the *nix library system as well (so, dylibs, the ar tool, how to compile them ...), can you point a review document about the current library techniques on the various architectures? Note: due to my poor knowledge this message could contain wrong concepts, feel free to edit it. Thank you Feel free to add more reference, I will add them to the summary. References Since most of you posted *nix or Windows specific references I will summarize here the best ones, I will mark as accepted answer the Wikipedia one, because is a good start point (and has references inside too) to get introduced to this stuff. • FIPS-compliant encryption in .NET 2.0

    - by Odrade
We have a .NET 2.0 application that uses the RijindaelManaged class to encrypt some sensitive data. This was fine until we ran into some machines that require the use of FIPS-compliant algorithms. We'd like to switch to AesCryptoServiceProvider, but most of our target machines haven't upgraded past .NET 2.0. Requiring an upgrade is out of the question. After all, upgrades are scary! Is there any way we could use AesCryptoServiceProvider in a .NET 2.0 application? Since 3.5 uses the 2.0 CLR, I was hoping there might be a way to build the needed libraries into the app. Failing that, could someone point me to a reference on the native API that's wrapped by AesCryptoServiceProvider?

  • Connection string in app.config in a class library

    - by Copeleto
I am creating solution and inside I have three projects: A WCF Service Library Project A DataAccess Project (Class Library) A Web site for hosting WCF service The implementation of the service is on the project # 1, but in order to access the DataBase I use a second project that implements the data access using a class library project. That problem is in order to get data access I need to configure a connection string, but that connection string must be configurable in a production environment, I meant in production I am going to deploy the site, which is a very simple project that contains only a reference WCF Service Library Project then a guy from database department will configure the connection string. In development I have an app.config on the data access project but when I do the release that app.config is embedded on the dll. Any ideas how can we achieve our purpose

  • Possible memory leak problem

    - by MaiTiano
    I write two pieces of c programs like following, during memcheck process using Valgrind, a lot of mem leak information is given. int GetMemory(int framewidth, int frameheight, int SR/*, int blocksize*//*,int ALL_REF_NUM*/) { //int i,j; int memory_size = 0; //int refnum = ALL_REF_NUM; int input_search_range = SR; memory_size += get_mem2D(&curFrameY, frameheight, framewidth); memory_size += get_mem2D(&curFrameU, frameheight>>1, framewidth>>1); memory_size += get_mem2D(&curFrameV, frameheight>>1, framewidth>>1); memory_size += get_mem3D(&prevFrameY, refnum, frameheight, framewidth);// to allocate reference frame buffer accoding to the reference frame number memory_size += get_mem3D(&prevFrameU, refnum, frameheight>>1, framewidth>>1); memory_size += get_mem3D(&prevFrameV, refnum, frameheight>>1, framewidth>>1); memory_size += get_mem2D(&mpFrameY, frameheight, framewidth); memory_size += get_mem2D(&mpFrameU, frameheight>>1, framewidth>>1); memory_size += get_mem2D(&mpFrameV, frameheight>>1, framewidth>>1); memory_size += get_mem2D(&searchwindow, input_search_range*2 + blocksize, input_search_range*2 + blocksize);// to allocate search window according to the searchrange /*memory_size +=*/ get_mem1D(/*&SAD_cost, height, width*/); // memory_size += get_mem2D(&searchwindow, 80, 80);// if searchrange is 32, then only 32+1+32+15 pixels is needed in each row and col, therefore the range of // search window is enough to be set to 80 ! memory_size += get_mem2Dint(&all_mv, height/blocksize, width/blocksize); return 0; } void FreeMemory(int refno) { free_mem2D(curFrameY); free_mem2D(curFrameU); free_mem2D(curFrameV); free_mem3D(prevFrameY,refno); free_mem3D(prevFrameU,refno); free_mem3D(prevFrameV,refno); free_mem2D(mpFrameY); free_mem2D(mpFrameU); free_mem2D(mpFrameV); free_mem2D(searchwindow); free_mem1D(); free_mem2Dint(all_mv); } void free_mem1D() { free(SAD_cost); } Now I hope to make sure where are the possible problems in my program?   • How do I create an ImageView in java code, within an existing Layout?

    - by Dan T
I'm looking for an easy way for the user to see how many drinks they've had for a BAC calculator. PICTURE OF THE APP, for reference On button press, I would like an image to be added to the screen, directly under the spinner and with left alignment. When I press the button again, I want another image to be added to the screen. So if I pressed the add beer button, a drawable of a beer would appear below the spinner. If I pressed the add beer button again, I want there to be TWO drawables of beers under the spinner, preferably with them being added from the right. (Also, having them reach their width limit, wrapping around, and starting again on the left, but below a full line, would be AWESOME) I can't figure out how to do this. I assume adding a ImageView in code to a relative layout (because it needs to be positioned to the right) would be the best route, but if it's possible in xml I'd be more than happy to use that. Any help?

  • Uri for bitmap in subfolder (c# wpf)

    - by the empirical programmer
I have a wpf app where I'm using an image. To reference the image I use: Uri uri = new Uri("pack://application:,,,/assemblyName;Component/myIcon.png"); BitmapImage(uri) If I add the png directly under the csproj file (with its properties BuildAction=Resource) then it works fine. But I want to move it to a subfolder under the csproj. Another SO question asked about bitmaps\uri's (857732) and an answer linked to this msdn. So I tried : Uri uri = new Uri("pack://application:,,,/assemblyName;Component/Icons/myIcon.png"); But that did not work. Any ideas?

  • System.WIndows.Application static members are thread safe?

    - by Lirik
The Application static members are supposed to be thread safe: The public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. In addition, the FindResource and TryFindResource methods and the Properties and Resources properties are thread safe.1 How much can we trust that statement in a multithreaded environment when calling static member methods of System.Windows.Application? Update: It's all in reference to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2463822/threading-errors-with-application-loadcomponent-key-already-exists/2463866#2463866 I never thought I'd see a real bug in the library, but this must be the day for me... that question seems to show a genuine bug. Usually it's "user error," but this doesn't seem to be the case.

  • Correlation between JEE / J2EE to J2SE / JDK versions

    - by Ehrann Mehdan
I was certain that I'll find a duplicate question or a satisfiyng answer, but I haven't. What I'm looking for is the answer to these questions: Is there an official correlation between JEE / J2EE and J2SE / JDK versions? If the answer is yes, where is it written? If the answer is no, then why? and is there an unofficial version table (e.g. JDK 1.4 goes well with J2EE 1.3, JDK 1.5 goes well with J2EE 1.4, JDK 1.6 with JEE 5 and so on) I can think of a couple of reasons for the uncoupling, but can't seem to find a good reference source Related questions: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/196265/jse-vs-j2ee-college-and-career/196439#196439 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/106820/what-is-j2ee-jee

  • Caching linked pages in ASP.NET

    - by n0e
I'm thinking of a way of creating a local backup for the pages I will be linking to from my site. This would be text-only, similar to Google's 'Copy' feature on the search pages. The idea is to be sure that the pages I would reference to, or cite from, do not dissapear from the Web in the near future. I know I could just keep local copies, but I will have A LOT of citations. What would be the best way of achieving this in ASP.NET? Some custom caching in database?

  • UIAlertView crashing on undocumented method

    - by morticae
Our app has been crashing with a frequency of roughly 1 in 1,500 launches due to a bug that is proving elusive. The relevant portion of the stack trace is included. It's being fired as a callback so I have no reference for where it's occurring in my own code. It looks like what's going on is there is a UIViewAnimationState object that is calling UIAlertView's private method (_popoutAnimationDidStop:finished:). Only problem is, it appears the UIAlertView has been dealloced by this point. I don't do anything weird with alert views. I throw them up, and I wait for user input. They are all shown before being released. Anyone encountered this? At this point, I'm leaning toward it being an Apple bug. • Ruby on Rails: What are partial hash arguments and full set arguments?

    - by williamjones
I'm using asserts_redirected_to in my unit tests, and I'm receiving this warning: DEPRECATION WARNING: Using assert_redirected_to with partial hash arguments is deprecated. Specify the full set arguments instead. What is a partial hash argument, and what is a full set argument? These aren't terms that I've seen used in the Rails community before, and the only relevant results I can find on Google for these are in reference to this deprecation warning. Here is my code: assert_redirected_to :controller => :user, :action => :search also tried: assert_redirected_to({:controller => :user, :action => :search}) I might have guessed that it feels I'm missing some parameters or something like that, but the API documentation explicitly says that not all parameters need to be included: http://rails.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/Assertions/ResponseAssertions.html

  • Serializing C# objects to DB

    - by Robert Koritnik
I'm using a DB table with various different entities. This means that I can't have an arbitrary number of fields in it to save all kinds of different entities. I want instead save just the most important fields (dates, reference IDs - kind of foreign key to various other tables, most important text fields etc.) and an additional text field where I'd like to store more complete object data. the most obvious solution would be to use XML strings and store those. The second most obvious choice would be JSON, that usually shorter and probably also faster to serialize/deserialize... And is probably also faster. But is it really? My objects also wouldn't need to be strictly serializable, because JsonSerializer is usually able to serialize anything. Even anonymous objects, that may as well be used here. What would be the most optimal solution to solve this problem?

  • Looking for some thoughts on an image printing app

    - by Alex
Hey All, Im looking for thoughts/advice. I have an upcoming project (all .net) that will require the following: pulls data once a day from an online service provider based on certain criteria. saves data locally for reference and reporting the data thats pulled will be used to create gift cards. So after the data is loaded, a process will run to generate "virtual cards" and send them to a network printer. Once printed, the system will updated the local data recording a successful or failed print. My initial thought was to create a windows service to pull the data...but then I couldnt decide how I was going to put a "virtual card" together and get it to print. Then I considered doing it as a WPF app. I figure that will give me access to the graphics and printing ability. Maybe neither of these are the right direction....Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Alex

  • Procedural music generation?

Anyone have good book / article recommendation for procedural generation of background music? (No vocals, just instruments). I'm not interested in: How do I generate the sound of a particular note on a particular instrument I'm interested in: How do I generate the melody / score for the music. Thanks! EDIT: Thanks for the reference to Brian Eno. I'm definitely looking into the ambient/user can ignore type of music. I.e. think the background music of a game. It's there to provide some basic mood, but the focus is the game.

Isn't this namespace point to the Framework folder like the System.Web namespace? C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Web.dll

    I am using the Rest Singleton WCF Service temple from the Rest Starter Kit. The temples uses sample item as its sample Item. i am attempting to replace that sample ITem with a custom type from web reference in my ASP.Net project .dll. The types and name spaces are found and i can replace the sample item in the code. when i run the application i get this error: "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation." when this line is executed "return new SingletonServiceHost(serviceType, baseAddresses);" <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="SAUDServices.Service" Factory="SAUDServices.AppServiceHostFactory"%> using System; using System.ServiceModel; using System.ServiceModel.Activation; using Microsoft.ServiceModel.Web.SpecializedServices; using Stretchatyourdesk; namespace SAUDServices { class AppServiceHostFactory : ServiceHostFactory { protected override ServiceHost CreateServiceHost(Type serviceType, Uri[] baseAddresses) { return new SingletonServiceHost(serviceType, baseAddresses); } } }

  • c# copy constructor generator

    - by Shawn Mclean
I want to copy values from one object to another object. Something similiar to pass by value but with assignment. Eg. PushPin newValPushPin = oldPushPin; //I want to break the reference here. I was told to write a copy constructor for this. But this class has alot of properties, it will probably take an hour to write a copy constructor by hand. Is there a better way to assign an object to another object by value? If not, is there a copy constructor generator?
