    I have two tables Contact and Addresses. Addresses is the child table of Contact. When i create view for Contact. i also want to get addresses for user as many as user wants. For contact table i bind the textbox and add validation like this <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.ContactName) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ContactName) %> Now my question is that how can i bind address field on create view screen.     Hi All, I have an ashx custom handler I goto to view my images. When I come accross an image that's not there I'm trying to throw a JavaScript alert saying the file is not found. But I want it to stay on the page? Is this possible? Insted it just goes to the blank page of the ashx handler. Thanks, Rodney

  • Log session and session changes of a asp.net web user

    This is going to be a quite broad question, and any suggestions, examples, links are very welcome! I'm looking for a good way to log my users session, and actions on the site up to a certain point. The site in question is a site for doing bookings. The users start with doing a search, doing a few steps of data gathering and selections and end up with a booking. So what I need to implement is some kind of logging of the current session variables at each step the user takes. And perhaps some other valid information. Logging should preferably be done to the a database. At the end i would like to associate all these session with a booking reference. The goal is to later if something goes wrong with the booking or we need to investigate a situation have all information we need. I understand log4net is a popular choice for logging, and used it a bit myself for simple purposes, but can not find any good examples regarding my situation. This should be a common situation, i'm curious how others do it.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2: HtmlHelpers, foreach?

    This one is new to me... I'm bringing in a Model that represents a list of items. Some items should be rendered as a number of checkboxes and radios. Others will be rendered in a list. Now I know how to foreach the items and spit them out manually... but I'd like to be able to check them against the Model that I have, making sure that at least one optios is selected/chosen. And obviously display the associated validation errors. This is how I am displaying the checkbox items manually: <ul> <% foreach (Corporate.Entities.DesignLayout.Tag tag in Model.DesignOptions.Items) { %> <li><input type="checkbox" /><%: tag.TagName %></li> <% } %> </ul> Two questions arise: 1) How do I check that list of checkboxes against my model? 2) How would I render the tag items with an HtmlHelper SelectList? Example: <%: Html.ListBoxFor(m=>m.DesignOptions, [don't know what I should put here]) %>

    I have a project which is source controlled using Subversion and VisualSVN. Since the version of web.config is different on the server and the developers' computers I want the file to remain on the computers but to be ignored by Subversion. I added it to the svn:ignore but it still remains (and still has a red exclamation mark too since we are not committing it). How can I remove it from Subversion safely without it being deleted from the files system Thanks, Adin

We have tought of using a table with ip and old session id or a query string with the old session id in order to reassing it in the uploaded event... Knowing the old session id how can i reassign it to the client? (In C#)

  • Using multiple databases within one application (ASP.NET MVC, LINQ to SQL)

    I have a web application made for several groups of people not connected with each other. Instead of using one database for all of them, I'm thinking about making separate databases. This will improve the speed of the queries and make me free from checking to what group the user belongs. But since I'm working with LINQ to SQL, my classes are explicitly connected with the databases, so I will have to make separate DataContexts for all of the databases. So how can I solve this problem? Or should I just not bother and use one database only?

    I've written an Html Helper called DetailsForm to reduce repetition when displaying fields in a view. Within a view - actually a partial view, ascx file - I can refer to it like this: Storyboard.Helpers.DetailsForm.LabelAndData(Html, m => m.id) But would like to refer to it like this: LabelAndData(Html, m => m.id) A 'using' directive doesn't seem to be allowed in the ascx file. Is there an equivalent?

    I have several dependency injection services which are dependent on stuff like HTTP context. Right now I'm configuring them as singletons the Windsor container in the Application_Start handler, which is obviously a problem for such services. What is the best way to handle this? I'm considering making them transient and then releasing them after each HTTP request. But what is the best way/place to inject the HTTP context into them? Controller factory or somewhere else?

    Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

  • Handling row selection from a simple grid using jquery and asp.net mvc

    Using a simple table and jquery, how would you manually handle selection using jquery? So far, I've managed to add a gridrowselected class on the tr when the click event is called so that I'll know which row is currently selected. But I don't know how to pass the selected data back to the controller (or at least an index I placed on the row). Specifically, I am looking for a comprehensive list of what events occur in the page and control life cycles and what is "available" in each event. Like when can I get a dropdownlists selected value, when can i databind, when can I get at values in view state and what not. Can anyone point me to a comprehensive list for both page and control life cycles? Or even provide that information for me? Thanks in advance.

    i have 2 customer views one for create and one for edit. i am using the same Customer view model for both. i want to make the 'customer no field' required on the add but not the edit. if i put the requiredfield attribute on the view model property then both views flag 'Customer No' as required (as you would expect). Is there a built in solution to get around this problem or am i going to have to create 2 seperate view models, one with the attribute and one without. Thanks

    Here's the error: The incoming request does not match any route. Basically I upgraded from Preview 1 to Preview 2 and got rid of a load of redundant stuff in relation to areas (as described by Phil Haack). It didn't work so I created a brand new project to check out how its dealt with in Preview 2. The file Default.aspx no longer exists which contains the following: public void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { // Change the current path so that the Routing handler can correctly interpret // the request, then restore the original path so that the OutputCache module // can correctly process the response (if caching is enabled). string originalPath = Request.Path; HttpContext.Current.RewritePath(Request.ApplicationPath, false); IHttpHandler httpHandler = new MvcHttpHandler(); httpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext.Current); HttpContext.Current.RewritePath(originalPath, false); } The error I received points to the line httpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext.Current); yet in newer projects none of this even exists. To test it, I quickly deleted Default.aspx but then absolutely nothing worked, I didn't even receive any errors.   • ASP.NET/IIS: Tell IIS do not check for file existence

    In my Global.asax.cs, I have: routes.MapRoute("AssetCss", "css/{*path}", new { controller = "Asset", action = "Index" }); I also have this in a view: <link href="/css/Root/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> The problem is that the AssetController does not invoke Index when /css/Root/index.css is requested. This is because a file actually exists at the path /css/Root/index.css. If I recall correctly, there's a checkbox setting in IIS that basically says "Do not check that a file actually exists at the request path [instead, let the RouteTable handle it]." (At least there is in IIS 6.) Is there something I can put in my Web.config that sets this IIS setting to true? How do I tell IIS to let my MVC routes handle the path even if a file exists at the path?
