• make IIS 7.5 cache static content files over diferent pages

  On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible? • How to add another OS entry in Wubi grub

  I am trying to install another linux distro besides ubuntu. However, I want to retain my existing windows based loader. Currently, as per my knowledge, MsDos loads grub which then loads Ubuntu (with loop back trick). Now, I have a new linux distro installed on /dev/sda8 (/boot for new distro) where as /root for that OS is installed on /dev/sda9. I tried following steps 1. Add entry into 40_custom of ubuntu grub 2. update grub But upon booting via that entry, it is not able to load the new OS and shows me blank screen. What could be the problem? Eric’s talk focused mostly on unit testing, and that the lack of proper unit testing can be compared to stealing from an employer. His point was that if you’re not doing proper unit testing then all of the time wasted on fixing issues that could have been detected with unit tests is like stealing money from employer. He makes the assumption that that time spent on fixing these issues could have been better spent developing new features that drive the business. To a point I can agree with Eric’s argument regarding unit testing and stealing from a company’s perspective. I can see how he relates resources being shifted from new development to bug fixes as stealing based on the fact that the resources used to fix bugs are directly taken from other projects. He also states that Boring/Redundant and Build/Test tasks should be automated because it reduces the changes of errors and frees up developer to do what they do best, DEVELOP! When he refers to testing, he breaks testing down in to four distinct types. Unit Test Acceptance Test (This also includes Integration Tests) Performance Test UI Test With this he also recommends that developers should not go buck wild striving for 100% code coverage because some test my not provide a great return on investment. In his experience he recommends that 70% test coverage was a very acceptable rate.

  i install ubuntu server 10.04, have 64 Gb VHD. And want to separate partitions in this mode: /dev/xvda0 p on swap (2 Gb) /dev/xvda1a0 e on /boot (128 Mb) /dev/xvda1a1 e on / type ffs (local) /dev/xvda1a2 e on /usr type ffs (local, nodev) /dev/xvda1a3 e on /tmp type ffs (local, nodev) /dev/xvda1a4 e on /var/log type ffs (local, nodev) /dev/xvda1a5 e on /var type ffs (local, nodev, nosuid) /dev/xvda1a6 e on /home type ffs (local, nodev, nosuid, with quotas) /dev/xvda2 p on /new (local, nodev, nosuid, noexec) with rest of space ~50Gb. But i'ma stuck, and don't know what size to give to each folder. Also i want to encrypt partitions. Thank you for any tips. EDIT: System need minimum size, here will be installed about 10 apps like ufw, apache,mysql, chkrootkit and so on.

  I was wondering what the best way is to structure a new website in Google's eyes. Currently, it contains two top-level categories (X & Y), and clicking a term under either one will result in the URL: www.nameofsite.com/X/X type term, or /Y/Y type term Technically, it is correct to group all "X type terms" under X and "Y type terms" under Y, but we could probably be more granular and break all articles into 5-6 top-level categories by breaking Y up into more specific categories. Given that the current URL structure will eventually result in 1000's of "X type terms" and "Y type terms" under just two top-level categories, would it be more advisable to have several of these, as suggested?   I have this annoying mistake in some of my builds. There is no error in the project, because if I build again, then the problem disappears. The message only appears, when the site is deployed to a Windows 2008 Server. I first thought that it might be an issue with temporary files, but thats not the case. I deployed the build to a different web and the error still appears. The error appears on random actions of the site. Most of the time builds are ok, but each 3rd or 4th build produces runtime errors. I build using a WebdeploymentProject in release mode. Views are precompiled. It's not http://stackoverflow.com/questions/178194/in-asp-net-mvc-i-encounter-an-incorrect-type-error-when-rendering-a-page-with-the, because views have totally different names. How I can debug this problem or how I can get help for this?   I have an application, that I want to load additional xaml files, being resourcedictionaries controling the style of the application. Yet when trying to add a loaded ResourceDictionary to the mergeddictionaries I get an InvalidOperationException saying "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it." at a point where I am not even using multiple threads. The application contains a usercontrol which loads the xaml file through a background worker, adding the loaded ResourceDictionaries to an Observablecollection. So maybe my loaded theme belongs to a different thread ? but its originating from a property of a usercontrol, which should be the same thread. And its accesable untill trying to use the ResourceDictionary. This makes me confused, and not very aware of how to proceed, any help is appreciated.

Now Date is an abject of type DateTime of C# environment, the DB doesnt store it(somewhere in SQLite forum, it was written that ADO.NET wrapper automatically converts DateTime type to ISO1806 format) But instead of this.Date when I use sDate (shown in the first line) then it stores properly. My probem actually doesnt end here. Even if I use "sDate", I have to retrieve it through a query. And that is creating the problem Any query of this format SELECT * FROM <Table_Name> WHERE DATES = "YYYY-MM-DD" returns nothing, whereas replacing '=' with '' or '<' returns right results. So my point is: How do I query for Date variables from SQLite Database. And if there is a problem with the way I stored it (i.e non 1806 compliant), then how do I make it compliant

• ELMAH - Filtering 404 Errors

  I am attempting to configure ELMAH to filter 404 errors and I am running into difficulties with the XML-provided filter rules in my Web.config file. I followed the tutorial here and here and added an <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.IO.FileNotFoundException" /> declaration under my <test><or>... declaration, but that completely failed. When I tested it locally I stuck a breakpoint in protected void ErrorLog_Filtering() {} of the Global.asax found that the System.Web.HttpException that gets fired by ASP.NET for a 404 doesn't have a base type of System.IO.FileNotFound, but rather it is simply a System.Web.HttpException. Next I decided to try a <regex binding="BaseException.Message" pattern="The file '/[^']+' does not exist" /> in the hopes that any exception matching the pattern "The file '/foo.ext' does not exist" would get filtered, but that too having no effect. As a last resort I tried <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.Exception" />, and even that is entirely disregarded. I'm inclined to think there's a configuration error with ELMAH, but I fail to see any. Am I missing something blatantly obvious? I also see the call to the InternalConverter.Convert method, which sees the expected parameters (I see the collection provided by the nested {Binding}) and is successfully able to retrieve the ICollectionView for the incoming collection. The only problem is that FilterInternal never gets called. The template is ultimately being used by a TreeView, if that's relevant. I haven't been able to figure out why the FilterInternal method is not being called and I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some insight.

• Architecture for a business objects / database access layer

  For various reasons, we are writing a new business objects/data storage library. One of the requirements of this layer is to separate the logic of the business rules, and the actual data storage layer. It is possible to have multiple data storage layers that implement access to the same object - for example, a main "database" data storage source that implements most objects, and another "ldap" source that implements a User object. In this scenario, User can optionally come from an LDAP source, perhaps with slightly different functionality (eg, not possible to save/update the User object), but otherwise it is used by the application the same way. Another data storage type might be a web service, or an external database. There are two main ways we are looking at implementing this, and me and a co-worker disagree on a fundamental level which is correct. I'd like some advice on which one is the best to use. I'll try to keep my descriptions of each as neutral as possible, as I'm looking for some objective view points here. Business objects are base classes, and data storage objects inherit business objects. Client code deals with data storage objects. In this case, common business rules are inherited by each data storage object, and it is the data storage objects that are directly used by the client code. This has the implication that client code determines which data storage method to use for a given object, because it has to explicitly declare an instance to that type of object. Client code needs to explicitly know connection information for each data storage type it is using. If a data storage layer implements different functionality for a given object, client code explicitly knows about it at compile time because the object looks different. If the data storage method is changed, client code has to be updated. Business objects encapsulate data storage objects. In this case, business objects are directly used by client application. Client application passes along base connection information to business layer. Decision about which data storage method a given object uses is made by business object code. Connection information would be a chunk of data taken from a config file (client app does not really know/care about details of it), which may be a single connection string for a database, or several pieces connection strings for various data storage types. Additional data storage connection types could also be read from another spot - eg, a configuration table in a database that specifies URLs to various web services. The benefit here is that if a new data storage method is added to an existing object, a configuration setting can be set at runtime to determine which method to use, and it is completely transparent to the client applications. Client apps do not need to be modified if data storage method for a given object changes. Business objects are base classes, data source objects inherit from business objects. Client code deals primarily with base classes. This is similar to the first method, but client code declares variables of the base business object types, and Load()/Create()/etc static methods on the business objects return the appropriate data source-typed objects. The architecture of this solution is similar to the first method, but the main difference is the decision about which data storage object to use for a given business object is made by the business layer, not the client code. I know there are already existing ORM libraries that provide some of this functionality, but please discount those for now (there is the possibility that a data storage layer is implemented with one of these ORM libraries) - also note I'm deliberately not telling you what language is being used here, other than that it is strongly typed. I'm looking for some general advice here on which method is better to use (or feel free to suggest something else), and why.

• Arrrg! MovieClip object refuses to moved in any rational way in as3?

  I have a MovieClip object, which is exported for actionscript (AS3) in an .swc file. When I place an instance of the clip on the stage without any modifications, it appears in the upper left corner, about half off stage (i.e. only the lower right quadrant of the object is visible). I understand that this is because the clip has a registration point which is not the upper left corner. If you call getBounds() on the movieclip you can get the bounds of the clip (presumably from the "point" that it's aligned on) which looks something like (left: -303, top: -100, right: 303, bottom: 100), you can subtract the left and top values from the clip x and y: clip.x -= bounds.left; clip.y -= bounds.top; This seems to properly align the clip fully on stage with the top left of the clip squarely in the corner of the stage. But! Following that logic doesn't seem to work when aligning it on the center of the stage! clip.x = (stage.stageWidth / 2); etc... This creates the crazy parallel universe where the clip is now down in the lower right corner of the stage. The only clue I have is that looking at: clip.transform.matrix and clip.transform.concatenatedMatrix matrix has a tx value of 748 (half of stage height) ty value of 426 (Half of stage height) concatenatedMatrix has a tx value of 1699.5 and ty value of 967.75 That's also obviously where the movieclip is getting positioned, but why? Where is this additional translation coming from?

• How can I inject an object into an WCF IErrorHandler implementation with Castle Windsor?

  I'm developing a set of services using WCF. The application is doing dependency injection with Castle Windsor. I've added an IErrorHandler implementation that is added to services via an attribute. Everything is working thus far. The IErrorHandler object (of a class called FaultHandler is being applied properly and invoked. Now I'm adding logging. Castle Windsor is set up to inject the logger object (an instance of IOurLogger). This is working. But when I try to add it to FaultHandler my logger is null. The code for FaultHandler looks something like this: class FaultHandler : IErrorHandler { public IOurLogger logger { get; set; } public bool HandleError(Exception error) { logger.Write("Exception type {0}. Message: {1}", error.GetType(), error.Message); // Let WCF handle things its way. We only want to log. return false; } public void ProvideFault(Exception error, MessageVersion version, Message fault) { } } This throws it's own exception, since logger is null when HandleError() is called. The logger is being successfully injected into the service itself and is usable there, but for some reason I can't use it in FaultHandler.   I have a class, Users. Users has a UserId property. I have a method that looks something like this: static IQueryable<User> FilterById(this IQueryable<User> p, Func<int, bool> sel) { return p.Where(m => sel(m)); } Inevitably, when I call the function: var users = Users.FilterById(m => m > 10); I get the following exception: Method 'System.Object DynamicInvoke(System.Object[])' has no supported translation to SQL. Is there any solution to this problem? How far down the rabbit hole of Expression.KillMeAndMyFamily() might I have to go? To clarify why I'm doing this: I'm using T4 templates to autogenerate a simple repository and a system of pipes. Within the pipes, instead of writing: new UserPipe().Where(m => m.UserId > 10 && m.UserName.Contains("oo") && m.LastName == "Wee"); I'd like to generate something like: new UserPipe() .UserId(m => m > 10) .UserName(m => m.Contains("oo")) .LastName("Wee");

• How to bind form collection back to custom model object that uses 2 custom objects in asp.net mvc?

  What I'm trying to do is rather basic, but I might have my facts mixed up. I have a details page that has a custom class as it's Model. The custom class uses 2 custom objects with yet another custom object a property of one of the 2. The details page outputs a fair amount of information, but allows the user to post a comment. When the user clicks the post button, the page gets posted to a Details action that looks something like this: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Details(VideoDetailModel vidAndComment) { ....} The only fields on the form that is posted are CommentText and VideoId. Here is what the VideoDetailModel looks like. public class VideoDetailModel { public VideoDetailModel() { Video = new VideoDTO(); Comment = new CommentDTO(); } public VideoDetailModel(VideoDTO vid) { Video = vid; Comment = new CommentDTO(); } public VideoDTO Video { get; set; } public CommentDTO Comment { get; set; } } VideoDTO has a few properties, but the ones I need are VideoId. CommentDTO's pertinent properties include CommentText (which is posting correctly) and a UserDTO object that contains a userId property. Everything other than the CommentText value is not being posted. I also have the following line on the ascx page, but the model value never gets posted to the controller. Html.Hidden("Model.Video.VideoId", Model.Video.VideoId); I'm really not sure what I'm missing here. I suppose if I added more form fields for the properties I need, they would get posted, but I only need 1 form entry field for the CommentText. If I could get the same Model objects value that were sent to the page to post with the page, that would help. I'll be happy to make any clarifications needed here. I'm just at loss as to what's going on.

• Java/Spring: Why won't Spring use the validator object I have configured?

  I'm writing a web app with Java & Spring 2.5.6 and using annotations for bean validation. I can get the basic annotation validation working fine, and Spring will even call a custom Validator declared with @Validator on the target bean. But it always instantiates a brand new Validator object to do it. This is bad because the new validator has none of the injected dependencies it needs to run, and so it throws a null pointer exception on validate. I need one of two things and I don't know how to do either. Convince Spring to use the validator I have already configured. Convince Spring to honor the @Autowired annotations when it creates the new validator. The validator has the @Component annotation, like this. @Component public class AccessCodeBeanValidator implements Validator { @Autowired private MessageSource messageSource; Spring finds the validator in the component scan, injects the autowired dependencies, but then ignores it and creates a new one at validation time. The only thing that I can do at the moment is add a validator reference into the controller for each validator object and use that ref directly, instead of relying on the bean validation framework to call the validator for me. It looks like this. // first validate via the annotations on the bean beanValidator.validate(accessCodeBean, result); // then validate using the specific validator class acbValidator.validate(accessCodeBean, result); if (result.hasErrors()) { If anyone knows how to convince spring to use the existing validator, instead of creating a new one, or how to make it do the autowiring when it creates a new one, I'd love to know.

  I have a very simple camel route. It starts with a CXF Endpoint exposed as a web service. I then want to convert it to xml and call a method on a bean. Currently i'm getting a CXF specific object after the web service call. How do I take my serialized object out of the CXF MessageList and use it going forward?
