I knew since starting my degree that that was the role that was interested in but I just found out the actual job name recently. Q: Is this a common position? Do many companies have "program managers"? What should I do/read to improve my chances to become a project manager upon graduation? I have already completed three co-op terms at different companies none of which had this position.

    Does anyone know a way to get the currency exchange rates for paypal? We have custom shopping cart and use Paypal (Website Payments Standard) to handle payments. Our 'home' currency is Euro, but we would like to present our customers the option to pay in different currencies (USD, CAD, AUD and GBP). PayPal offers the option to:     a) automatically convert our Euro quoted prices to, for example, USD upon checkout     b) checkout in USD directly With option a): We get paid in Euro, the customer pays for the currency exchange (good). The customer does not know what he/she is going to be charged in USD until checkout. (bad) With option b) The customer pays in USD, then the currency is converted into EUR and we pay the the currency exchange. The customer never has to worry about the different currencies (excellent) We do not know the exchange rate PayPal is going to use so we cannot quote the correct prices to our customer (showstopper) So my question is:   Does anybody know a way to get the PayPal exchange rates? or   Does anybody know how to make a good estimate? Update: PayPal updates it's exchange rate 2 times a day. (at least, that is what they state). They use the Interbank Exchange Rate provided by ??? and add a 2.5% spread above this rate to determine their retail foreign exchange rates. Unforunately, there the Interbank Exchange Rates vary from source to source and from minute to minute. We have been monitoring the PayPal exchange rates and cross referenced them with the Official reference rates provides by the European Central Bank. the results vary widely, somewhere from 1 to 6 ! percent...

    Does anyone know of an open source implementation of an ASP.NET ProfileProvider that stores user profile information in the file system? I would prefer to avoid writing my own if a decent implementation already exists - while the API doesn't look to complicated, I'd rather not re-invent the wheel (so to speak). Hopefully this doesn't matter, but I am using .NET 3.5 with ASP.MVC 1.0. Thanks in advance.

I want to use jQuery so that when I click the H3, the image, or the paragraph inside the LIE(which are all information about a certain site), it would fade out the entire UL, then grab info about that site from our database. I think this requires AJAX but I don't have much experience with it. I'm also confused on how to use jQuery to write the new HTML after the information is grabbed.

    I have around 50-60 components and some of the fields are readonly. Now I want to set the tab index only for the fields that are read/write. Now the problem for me is, some of the components will be added according to the selection in my dropdown list box. Those components that are newly populated also contains some read only text boxes. The thing is, some of the options in the dropdown list may contain or may not contain components. So how could I Give the tabindex appropriately. eg : textbox1 : tabindex="1" textbox2 : tabindex="2" dropdown : tabindex="3" textbox for dropdown : tabindex="?" textbox : tabindex="?"

  • Breaking a concave polygon into convex ones.

    I'm using a game physics library (Box2D) which only supports convex polygon shapes. However, I'd like the level builder to be able to just specify concave polygons without having to worry about that. So, how can I automatically break apart a concave polygon into convex ones (or even all triangles). Speed would be cool, but ease of implementation is more important. The breaking apart will only be done on game initialization. (My language is Flash/ActionScript 3, but that shouldn't matter)

  • C# WPF application is using too much memory while GC.GetTotalMemory() is low

    I wrote little WPF application with 2 threads - main thread is GUI thread and another thread is worker. App has one WPF form with some controls. There is a button, allowing to select directory. After selecting directory, application scans for .jpg files in that directory and checks if their thumbnails are in hashtable. if they are, it does nothing. else it's adding their full filenames to queue for worker. Worker is taking filenames from this queue, loading JPEG images (using WPF's JpegBitmapDecoder and BitmapFrame), making thumbnails of them (using WPF's TransformedBitmap) and adding them to hashtable. Everything works fine, except memory consumption by this application when making thumbnails for big images (like 5000x5000 pixels). I've added textboxes on my form to show memory consumption (GC.GetTotalMemory() and Process.GetCurrentProcess().PrivateMemorySize64) and was very surprised, cuz GC.GetTotalMemory() stays close to 1-2 Mbytes, while private memory size constantly grows, especially when loading new image (~ +100Mb per image). Even after loading all images, making thumbnails of them and freeing original images, private memory size stays at ~700-800Mbytes. My VirtualBox is limited to 512Mb of physical memory and Windows in VirtualBox starts to swap alot to handle this huge memory consumption. I guess I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know how to investigate this problem, cuz according to GC, allocated memory size is very low.     Hi, all. This is my first year as a programmer. The programming language that I'm most familiar with is Python. I am maintaining a web2py based legacy system, alone, which means I have to grow up as an all-rounder. The original programmers on this project are nowhere to find, and there are hardly any usable documents about requirements or anything. I find it very frustrating every time I hear the users criticize the system, and I can't help explaining that "that was not my fault, those mess was there even before I entered this company." I wonder what should I do with this situation. Please give me some advice, thanks in advance.

  • Problem with multiple event handling in JQuery

    Hi everyone, I have a strange jquery problem with multiple event handlers. What I'm trying to achieve is this: User selects some text on the page If the selection is not empty - show a context menu If user clicks somewhere else - the context menu should disappear I'm having troubles with the above i.e. sometimes the context menu appears correctly, sometimes it appears and disappears straight after user makes a selection. Please help. See the relevant parts of my code below.   • How to access MyProject.MySettings.Default.SomeSetting from xaml?

    I have defined a StringCollection in the Project Settings. I want to use the values in a ComboBox. Is there a way to access it xamly? I tried: <CollectionViewSource Source="{x:Static src:MySettings.Default.MyCollection}" /> <CollectionViewSource x:Key="RoomSections" Source="{x:Static src:MySettings.Default.RoomSections}" /> *src is the xmlns of the project It says: "Type src:MySettings.Default was not found". The thing is that MySettings is a class that offers a Default property which is a thread-safe instance of MySettings, I really want to get the collection from the Default property and not by instantiating a new on. Is there other ways I am not aware of, maybe ObjectDataProvider can access static objects? I thought, maybe I can make in the App.xaml a global resource that return MySettings.Default which is an instance of the MySettings class, and then access all its properties, I will try that out, but I prefer the easy way.

    Hi, I am working on a webapplication and I do most of the XHTML stuff in an editor. Every once in a while I froget to close a tag or mess up the nesting (we all get distracted sometimes ;-)). So I commpile, package and run my webapp (using maven mvn clean package jetty:run-war only to notice that displaying the view (where I messed up the jsp) fails with an exception while trying to render. So I wondered: Is there some tool that I can include into my build-cycle that automatically catches and rectifies those careless mistakes?

    On a click of a button named "Add Textbox" it calls a function which creates a single textbox using (gtk.Entry) function. So each time i click that button it creates a textbox. I have a submit button which should fetches all the values of the text boxes(say 10 textboxes) generated with the name of "entry". It works for one textbox but not for multiple. In php we can create dynamix textboxes mentioning as an array name=entry[]. Do we have similar functionality in python ? Enviroment : FC10 , Glade 3 , Python 2.5 , GTK.

  • importing pywiiuse to test out

    This is probably a simple problem. But I downloaded the pywiiuse library from here and I also downloaded the examples. However when I try to run one of the examples I end up with import issues. I'm not certain I have everything configured properly to run.     A 2 part question: Are flow-charts, as tool to analyze source-code, no longer considered useful? The reason I ask this question is that if you Google for source-code to flowchart tools for Visual Studio, there are no relevant results. Also, Microsoft does not seem to have a tool for this purpose. Are people just not using flowcharts that much any more? (I find them to be a great way to document complex logic in my code). Are there any VS tools that can take .Net (C#, VB.Net) code and convert it to a flowchart? (The only tool that I found is Aviosto's Visustin, which does not provide VS integration). Any other tools that you can recommend for this purpose?

  • SVG as CSS background for website navigation-bar

    I drew a small (horizontal / in width) svg to be the background of my website's navigation. My website's navigation takes place a 100% of the browser's viewport and I want the svg image to fill that 100% space. So, using css I set the background of the navigation (.nav) to nav.svg but then I saw (whenI opened the html file in a browser) that the svg was not the full-width of the nav, but at the small width I drew it at. How can I get the SVG to stretch and fill the entire width of the navigation (100% of the page) ?   • Can't checkin to Facebook Places by post to api?

    Hey everybody, I am trying to build an app where I let my registered user be able to check in to places on Facebook Places. I however for some reason can't seem to make this work.   • iPhone: How to detect if an EKEvent instance can be modified?

    While working with the EventKit on iPhone I noticed that some events can exist which cannot be modified. Examples I encountered so far are birthdays and events synced with CalDAV. When you view the event's details in the standard built-in calendar app on iPhone the "Edit" button in the top-right corner is not visible in these cases, where it would be visible when viewing "normal" events. I've searched everywhere, read all documentation there is but I simply can't find anything that tells me how to detect this behavior! I can only detect it afterwards: edit an event's title save it to the event store check the event's title, if it has not changed it is not editable! I am looking for a way that I can detect the non-editable behavior of an event beforehand. I know this is possible because I've seen other calendar apps implement this correctly.

    How do I get an outline view in sublime code editor for Windos? http://www.sublimetext.com/ The minimap is helpful but I miss a traditional outline (a klickable list of all the functions in my code in the order they appear for quick navigation and orientation) Maybe there is a plugin, addon or similar? It would also be nice if you can shortly name which steps are neccesary to make it work.
