• Silverlight 4 - encoding PCM data from the microphone

  Hi I've written a basic SL4 application to capture audio data from the microphone using CaptureSource. The trouble is, it's raw PCM output - which means huge and uncompressed. Given that I need this application to run purely within a SL4 environment, how can I compress the PCM audio data into something that can be delivered to a remote server more easily? In conversation, people have suggested Speex and WMA for instance, but I haven't found any libraries or examples that work without requiring reference to DLL's that won't work in a SL4 project.   Hello, I am trying to figure out this error since 5 hours without any success. SO i finally thought of posting in here. Please help i am really in big trouble. I am stuck on this and see no way of solving this error.   I am trying to experiment with GNUS email in Emacs, in Windows (EDIT: x64 bit). I've got it to work in Ubuntu, but struggling with it in Windows. From http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_mono/emacs-gnutls.html#Help-For-Users I read in second paragraph: This is a little bit trickier on the W32 (Windows) platform, but if you have the GnuTLS DLLs (available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ezwinports/files/ thanks to Eli Zaretskii) in the same directory as Emacs, you should be OK. I have downloaded and unzipped the gnutls-3.0.9-w32-bin package, but am not sure what to do with it. I have tried putting it in Program Files (x86), which is "the same directory as Emacs". I have tried putting it in the emacs-24.3 folder. I consider merging all the folders in between the two, but am hesitant as that seems a difficult troubleshoot attempt compared to my knowledge on these matters. I think Emacs needs to somehow see the gnutls binaries and/or dlls. My knowledge is limited on this. I've also struggled to understand PATHs for sometime now, and am not sure if that approach is relevant here. FYI, the emacs directory contains folders labeled bin, etc, info, leim, lisp and site-lisp. The gnutls directory contains folder labeled bin, include, lib and share. Hmm, now I'm finding lots of links on adding paths. Still, I'm skeptical that I would only add gnutls.exe path, as it seems the dlls are needed. Some additional data for Ramhound's first comment I have been attempting the (require 'gnutls) route. This seems to be the most relevant parts in the log: Opening connection to imap.gmail.com via tls... gnutls.c: [1] (Emacs) GnuTLS library not found Opening TLS connection to `imap.gmail.com'... • Explicit return form a Ruby method - implementation hiding, reuse and optimisations.

  Hi, Rather than allowing a Ruby method to blindly return the last statement evaluated, is there any advantage to returning nil explicitly? In terms of implementation hiding and reuse, it seems dangerous to blindly allow the last expression evaluated to be returned - isn't there a danger that a user will rely on this only to get a nasty surprise when the implementation is modified? Surely returning nil would be better unless an explicit return value was given. Following on, is there an optimisation that Ruby can make when the return is a simple type rather than a reference to a more complex object? Chris

• Session variable getting lost using Firefox, works in IE

  I am setting a Session variable in an HttpHandler, and then getting its value in the Page_load event of an ASPX page. I'm setting it using public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { HttpPostedFile file = context.Request.Files["Filedata"]; context.Session["WorkingImage"] = file.FileName; } (And before someone suggests that I check the validity of file.FileName, this same problem occurs if I hard-code a test string in there.) It's working just fine in IE, but in Firefox the Session Variable is not found, getting the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error in the following code: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { string loc = Session["WorkingImage"].ToString(); } Has anyone encountered this problem - and hopefully come up with a means for passing the session variable?

I have read of someone running, production-wise, Google app engine development version on their own server. My questions are: Are there any security issues running GAE development on your own server in production mode and exposing it to the www? If so how to mitigate them? Can GAE dev be run on Amazon? Is it possible to port my GAE apps running on Google servers to a GAE running on Amazon, without code changes, but without changing any reference in using other gdata services such as google docs, youtube, gmail, etc. How to configure GAE dev server to use my own hadoop? Or to use Amazon's hadoop?

  Hi, I have multiple DLLs that are used to read/write data into my database. There is a presentation layer DLL and a data access layer DLL. I want these DLLs to share a set of the connection strings. My idea is to store the connection string in a seperate DLL in the external configuration file. I'm not sure whether it's a good idea and whether I can reference that external DLL in both presentation and data access layers. The other question is whether I should write a helper class to read the data from the external config file or whether I should be using built in .Net methods? Thank you

  I am in need of a lightweight way to store dictionaries of data into a database. What I need is something that: Creates a database table from a simple type description (int, float, datetime etc) Takes a dictionary object and inserts it into the database (including handling datetime objects!) If possible: Can handle basic references, so the dictionary can reference other tables I would prefer something that doesn't do a lot of magic. I just need an easy way to setup and get data into an SQL database. What would you suggest? There seems to be a lot of ORM software around, but I find it hard to evaluate them.

• May a NSManagedObjectContext re-fault objects automatically?

  I am trying to create an application which allows background threads to update core data objects while the user might be reading the same data. My approach to this would be to use multiple NSManagedObjectContexts and then before a background thread does a -save: operation, I fetch the object the user is currently working on and fire the fault for all its properties and relationships recursively. This way I have all objects the user could act with in my NSManagedObjectContext without seeing the already updated values. But this can only work if the NSManagedObjectContext cannot decide himself that e.g. memory usage is too high, and starts faulting objects which I do not explicitly reference (other than through the NSManagedObject relationship). So the question is, can the NSManagedObjectContext decide that an object needs to be re-faulted, without intervention from my side? Thanks for your effort, Markus

Works fine, put I'd like to use the hoverIntent plug-in instead of hover. Doesn't work at all with hoverIntent. Suggestions? • Debugging Visual Studio 2010 Unit Test and WCF Service in one IDE instance

  I have created a WCF service in Visual Studio 2010 along with some supporting assemblies. I have also created a test project which contains multiple unit tests for the service and the supporting assemblies. Right now I have them all in one solution with the Test project having a service reference (http) to the WCF service. If I debug the WCF service and select "Run checked tests" in a Test List I created, I can debug the WCF service without a problem. Note: I cannot select Debug Checked Tests while debugging the WCF service. (Because the IDE is already debugging?) If I open the Test project in another instance of VS 2010, debug the WCF service and then select "Debug Checked Tests" - I can debug both my tests and the WCF service. However - I would like to (and my question is) be able to debug my tests and my service in a single IDE. Is this possible?

• VS 2010 Server Explorer Database Showing No Tables

  I'm working on a .Net application that needs to read from an Oracle 10g database behind Siebel. In VS 2010 Server Explorer, I've created a connection using the OracleClient type connector with a reference to the Oracle TNS service name as the "server name." The "Test Connection" button shows that the connection is successful. However, in the Server Explorer, when I go to expand the Tables, no tables are shown. I know for a fact that there are 3000+ tables in the database (thanks Siebel). Anyone know what's happening here? I'd like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 Entity Data Model... Thanks for the help!   Is there a way to modularize JMeter tests. I have recorded several use cases for our application. Each of them is in a separate thread group in the same test plan. To control the workflow I wrote some primitives (e.g. postprocessor elements) that are used in many of these thread groups. Is there a way not to copy these elements into each thread group but to use some kind of referencing within the same test plan? What would also be helpful is a way to reference elements from a different file. Does anybody have any solutions or workarounds. I guess I am not the only one trying to follow the DRY principle...

• Multiple synonym dictionary matches in PostgreSQL full text searching

  I am trying to do full text searching in PostgreSQL 8.3. It worked splendidly, so I added in synonym matching (e.g. 'bob' == 'robert') using a synonym dictionary. That works great too. But I've noticed that it apparently only allows a word to have one synonym. That is, 'al' cannot be 'albert' and 'allen'. Is this correct? Is there any way to have multiple dictionary matches in a PostgreSQL synonym dictionary? For reference, here is my sample dictionary file: bob robert bobby robert al alan al albert al allen And the SQL that creates the full text search config: CREATE TEXT SEARCH DICTIONARY nickname (TEMPLATE = synonym, SYNONYMS = nickname); CREATE TEXT SEARCH CONFIGURATION dxp_name (COPY = simple); ALTER TEXT SEARCH CONFIGURATION dxp_name ALTER MAPPING FOR asciiword WITH nickname, simple; What am I doing wrong?   For performance tests I need a way to measure the time needed for a form to load its definition from the DFM. All existing forms inherit a custom form class. To capture the current time, this base class needs overriden methods as "extension points": start of the deserialization process after the deserialization (can be implemented by overriding the Loaded procedure) the moment just before the execution of the OnFormCreate event So the log for TMyForm.Create(nil) could look like: - 00.000 instance created - 00.010 before deserialization - 01.823 after deserialization - 02.340 before OnFormCreate Which TObject (or TComponent) methods are best suited? Maybe there are other extension points in the form creation process, please feel free to make suggestions. Background: for some of our app forms which have a very basic structure (with some PageControls and QuantumGrids) I realized that it is not database access and other stuff in OnFormShow but the construction which took most of the time (around 2 seconds) which makes me wonder where this time is spent. As a reference object I will also build a mock form which has a similar structure but no code or datamodule connections and measure its creation time.

• Sub-classing TreeView in WinForms for mouse over tool tips

  Ok, this is a weird one. The expected behaviour for a TreeView control is that, if ShowNodeToolTips is set to false, then, when a label for a tree node exceeds the width of the control (or, more accurately, it's right hand edge is past the right hand edge of the client area), then a tooltip is shown above the node showing the full item's text. I'd like to disable that, because the above semantic doesn't always work, depending on what the treeview is contained within. So I have rolled my own, and got the tooltips to work (and line up better than the default one!) - but I would like to be able to disable the 'default' behaviour for situations where it would work natively. So, can anyone point me in the right direction as to which message to post to the TreeView in order to disable that behaviour? I have looked at the windows control reference, but couldn't find anything that looked like it might be the one.

I was wondering if there is a method (or property) which is generated by Visual Studio whatever web service you add to your project so that I can put a breakpoint there and once the debugger stops there, I can simply read the response from web-service in an xml format (or should I say, soap). I don't want to use fiddler or a tool like that. Is it possible? Does such a place exist in the webservice wrapper code for all the added webservice Thank you, burak ozdogan
