  • Java replacement for C macros

    - by thkala
    Recently I refactored the code of a 3rd party hash function from C++ to C. The process was relatively painless, with only a few changes of note. Now I want to write the same function in Java and I came upon a slight issue. In the C/C++ code there is a C preprocessor macro that takes a few integer variables names as arguments and performs a bunch of bitwise operations with their contents and a few constants. That macro is used in several different places, therefore its presence avoids a fair bit of code duplication. In Java, however, there is no equivalent for the C preprocessor. There is also no way to affect any basic type passed as an argument to a method - even autoboxing produces immutable objects. Coupled with the fact that Java methods return a single value, I can't seem to find a simple way to rewrite the macro. Avenues that I considered: Expand the macro by hand everywhere: It would work, but the code duplication could make things interesting in the long run. Write a method that returns an array: This would also work, but it would repeatedly result into code like this: long tmp[] = bitops(k, l, m, x, y, z); k = tmp[0]; l = tmp[1]; m = tmp[2]; x = tmp[3]; y = tmp[4]; z = tmp[5]; Write a method that takes an array as an argument: This would mean that all variable names would be reduced to array element references - it would be rather hard to keep track of which index corresponds to which variable. Create a separate class e.g. State with public fields of the appropriate type and use that as an argument to a method: This is my current solution. It allows the method to alter the variables, while still keeping their names. It has the disadvantage, however, that the State class will get more and more complex, as more macros and variables are added, in order to avoid copying values back and forth among different State objects. How would you rewrite such a C macro in Java? Is there a more appropriate way to deal with this, using the facilities provided by the standard Java 6 Development Kit (i.e. without 3rd party libraries or a separate preprocessor)?

  • For-Each and Pointers in Java

    - by John
    Ok, so I'm tyring to iterate through an ArrayList and remove a specefic element. However, I am having some trouble using the For-Each like structure. When I run the following code: ArrayList<String> arr = new ArrayList<String>(); //... fill with some values (doesn't really matter) for(String t : arr) { t = " some other value "; //hoping this would change the actual array } for(String t : arr) { System.out.println(t); //however, I still get the same array here } My question in, how can I make 't' a pointer to 'arr' so that I am able to change the values in a for-each loop? I know I could loop through the ArrayList using a different structure, but this one looks so clean and readable, it would just be nice to be able to make 't' a pointer. All comments are appreciated! Even if you say I should just suck it up and use a different construct.

  • Is there anything like memcached, but for sorted lists?

    - by depesz
    I have a situation where I could really benefit from having system like memcached, but with the ability to store (per each key) sorted list of elements, and modifying the list by addition of values. For example: something.add_to_sorted_list( 'topics_list_sorted_by_title', 1234, 'some_title') something.add_to_sorted_list( 'topics_list_sorted_by_title', 5436, 'zzz') something.add_to_sorted_list( 'topics_list_sorted_by_title', 5623, 'aaa') Which I then could use like this: something.get_list_size( 'topics_list_sorted_by_title' ) // returns 3 something.get_list_elements( 'topics_list_sorted_by_title', 1, 10 ) // returns: 5623, 1234, 5436 Required system would allow me to easily get items count in every array, and fetch any number of values from the array, with the assumption that the values are sorted using attached value. I hope that the description is clear. And the question is relatively simple: is there any such system?

  • How to convert from integer to unsigned char in C, given integers larger than 256?

    - by Alf_InPogform
    As part of my CS course I've been given some functions to use. One of these functions takes a pointer to unsigned chars to write some data to a file (I have to use this function, so I can't just make my own purpose built function that works differently BTW). I need to write an array of integers whose values can be up to 4095 using this function (that only takes unsigned chars). However am I right in thinking that an unsigned char can only have a max value of 256 because it is 1 byte long? I therefore need to use 4 unsigned chars for every integer? But casting doesn't seem to work with larger values for the integer. Does anyone have any idea how best to convert an array of integers to unsigned chars?

  • How do I remove elements from a jQuery wrapped set

    - by Bungle
    I'm a little confused about which jQuery method and/or selectors to use when trying to select an element, and then remove certain descendant elements from the wrapped set. For example, given the following HTML: <div id="article"> <div id="inset"> <ul> <li>This is bullet point #1.</li> <li>This is bullet point #2.</li> <li>This is bullet point #3.</li> </ul> </div> <p>This is the first paragraph of the article</p> <p>This is the second paragraph of the article</p> <p>This is the third paragraph of the article</p> </div> I want to select the article: var $article = $('#article'); but then remove <div id="inset"></div> and its descendants from the wrapped set. I tried the following: var $article = $('#article').not('#inset'); but that didn't work, and in retrospect, I think I can see why. I also tried using remove() unsuccessfully. What would be the correct way to do this? Ultimately, I need to set this up in such a way that I can define a configuration array, such as: var selectors = [ { select: '#article', exclude: ['#inset'] } ]; where select defines a single element that contains text content, and exclude is an optional array that defines one or more selectors to disregard text content from. Given the final wrapped set with the excluded elements removed, I would like to be able to call jQuery's text() method to end up with the following text: This is the first paragraph of the article.This is the second paragraph of the article.This is the third paragraph of the article. The configuration array doesn't need to work exactly like that, but it should provide roughly equivalent configuration potential. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Break a string into parts, returning all characters

    - by Benjamin
    I want to break a string according to the following rules: all consecutive alpha-numeric chars, plus the dot (.) must be treated as one part all other consecutive chars must be treated as one part consecutive combinations of 1 and 2 must be treated as different parts no whitespace must be returned For example this string: Method(hierarchy.of.properties) = ? Should return this array: Array ( [0] => Method [1] => ( [2] => hierarchy.of.properties [3] => ) [4] => = [5] => ? ) I was unsuccessful with preg_split(), as AFAIK it cannot treat the pattern as an element to be returned. Any idea for a simple way to do this?

  • Reading in 4 bytes at a time

    - by alphomega
    I have a big file full of integers that I'm loading in. I've just started using C++, and I'm trying out the filestream stuff. From everything I've read, it appears I can only read in bytes, So I've had to set up a char array, and then cast it as a int pointer. Is there a way I can read in 4 bytes at a time, and eliminate the need for the char array? const int HRSIZE = 129951336; //The size of the table char bhr[HRSIZE]; //The table int *dwhr; int main() { ifstream fstr; /* load the handranks.dat file */ std::cout << "Loading table.dat...\n"; fstr.open("table.dat"); fstr.read(bhr, HRSIZE); fstr.close(); dwhr = (int *) bhr; }

  • Preg_match class name from PHP file

    - by talentedmrjones
    I have a script that recursively scans a directory pulling out class names from php files, and storing those classes names in an array. This is working nicely even through the rather large Zend Framework library folders. The issue is that classes that extend other classes are not being included in the array. Here is my current preg_match: if (preg_match("/class\s*(\w*)\s*\{/i",strip_comments(file_get_contents($file)),$matches)) $classes[] = $matches[1]; I know that the last \s* is not right; there should be something there that can catch "{" or " extends Some_Other_Class {" .

  • embed multiple youtube videos to chromeless player cue

    - by Quaze
    So in the project ive been working on i use the youtube API to add a video to a chromeless player (got custom buttons, everything works no problems). It loads the youtube id which it gets from the database (Codeigniter, PHP). But what i would like to see is: instead of loading 1 video, id like to add all the videos i get from the database in the cue of that one player. So only one screen, first video retrieved from dbase gets played first, when its done second get loaded preferably also looped. Is there any way i can achieve this? My first guess would be to save the array with youtube id's somewhere and on state change (when the 'video stop'-event gets fired) load the next id from the array. Havent tried this yet because id prefer if the cue gets just gets filled on the init, so it doesnt have to load after a video has been ended. Is This possible?

  • SQLite/iPhone read copyright symbol

    - by Marco A
    Hi All, I am having problems reading the copyright symbol from a sqlite db that I have for my App that I am developing. I import the information manually, ie, from an excel sheet. I have tried two ways of doing it and failed with both: 1) Tried replacing the copyright symbol with "\u00ae" (unicode combination) within excel and then importing the modified file. - Result: I get the combination of \u00ae as a part of the string, it doesnt detect the unicode combination. 2) Tried leaving as it is. Importing the excel with the copyright symbol. - Result: I get a symbol that is different from the copyright, its something like an AE put together.looks like this: Æ Heres my code how I read from DB: -(void) readCategoriesFromDatabase:(NSString *) rest_input { // Init the products Array categories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Open the database from the users filessytem rest_input = [rest_input stringByAppendingString:@"'"]; NSString *newString; newString = [@"select distinct category from food where restaurant='" stringByAppendingString:rest_input]; const char *cat_sqlStatement = [newString UTF8String]; sqlite3_stmt *cat_compiledStatement; if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, cat_sqlStatement, -1, &cat_compiledStatement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { // Loop through the results and add them to the feeds array while(sqlite3_step(cat_compiledStatement) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSString *catName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(cat_compiledStatement,0)]; // Create a new product object with the data from the database Product *category = [[Product alloc] initWithName:catName]; // Add the product object to the respective Array [categories addObject:category]; [category release]; } sqlite3_finalize(cat_compiledStatement); } NSLog(@"Finished Accessing Database to gather Categories...."); } I open the DB with this function: -(void) checkAndCreateDatabase{ NSLog(@"Checking/Creating Database...."); NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; [fileManager removeFileAtPath:databasePath handler:nil]; NSString *databasePathFromApp = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:databaseName]; [fileManager copyItemAtPath:databasePathFromApp toPath:databasePath error:nil]; [fileManager release]; if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_close(database); database = nil; } NSLog(@"Finished Checking/Creating Database...."); } Thanks to anything that can help me out.

  • Why is url not registered?(Drupal 6.x)

    - by Andrew
    I'm using hook_menu to register new url so that accessing this url would return some data to ajax function. As title suggested, this url is not registered. How do I know that? I've tried typing this in address bar but, drupal, return main template only rather than the tests string that I created. I'm positive that my module is working for php issues error if I intentionally write wrong syntax. And, yes, I clear cache whenever I make changes. Here's the code - function test_menu() { $my_form['test'] = array( 'title' => 'Test address', 'page callback' => 'test', 'access arguments' => array('access content'), 'type' => MENU_CALLBACK, ); return $my_form; } function test(){ $a= "testing"; return $a; }

  • Simple explaination of Arraylists

    - by Jeremy
    I'm new to programming and I'm looking for a simple answer to build my foundation of understanding Arrays. I've used google and searched this site. After a bit of trial and error I get how to make and reference Arrays like thing[3] gets you the fourth thing in the thing array(since 0 is the first). which lets me do something like thing[3].getStupidNumber() to get the StupidNumber of the 4th thing in the thing array. Then I get to ArrayLists which seem to have much more utility but I cant make logical sense of them like Arrays. When i search I cant find this or word this correctly and thus far everything else I've learned clicked easily. so say I make an ArrayList thing with 5 things in it. how do i get to the .getStupidNumber() method inside the fourth thing, if possible? I think if I learn this I can learn the rest on my own. Thanks!

  • Added a tableview in a viewcontroller. How do I load tableview cells

    - by user1509593
    I have a view controller In storyboard, added tableview to view controller. Created an IBOutlet for tableview to View controller's header file. The view controller's header file includes an resultsarray Changed the @interface to include delegates <\UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource View controller implementation file has mandatory tableview protocols (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath The view controller has search button in storyboard and IBAction in view controller header file. On click of search button, results are obtained. How do I load the array and redisplay tableview with results in search method. After I loaded the results in array, I tried [self viewdidload];, hoping the cells will be loaded. But didn't. I thought of calling [self.detailView cellForRowAtIndexPath:?indexpath], but dontknow what the value of index path is. Appreciate help from guru's to load the UItableviewcell Thanks

  • Correct process for creating builds reliant on 3rd party packages

    - by Patrick
    I work on a Symfony 2 codebase. We use a number of third-party packages (most are in the Symfony Standard Edition). We use composer for dependencies. We current have all of our third-party code committed in our repository (after changing .gitignore files) to ensure stability. According to Proper Programming Practices™, we are not supposed to have any third-party packages in our repo. We are supposed to pull them down and include them at build time. How are we to do proper QA and debugging when at any given time our dependencies could push an update that breaks functionality?

  • Fastest PHP Routine To Match Words

    - by Volomike
    What is the fastest way in PHP to take a keyword list and match it to a search result (like an array of titles) for all words? For instance, if my keyword phrase is "great leather shoes", then the following titles would be a match... Get Some Really Great Leather Shoes Leather Shoes Are Great Great Day! Those Are Some Cool Leather Shoes! Shoes, Made of Leather, Can Be Great ...while these would not be a match: Leather Shoes on Sale Today! You'll Love These Leather Shoes Greatly Great Shoes Don't Come Cheap I imagine there's some trick with array functions or a RegEx (Regular Expression) to achieve this rapidly.

  • [Ruby] How can I randomly iterate through a large Range?

    - by void
    I would like to randomly iterate through a range. Each value will be visited only once and all values will eventually be visited. For example: (0..9).sort_by{rand}.map{|x| f(x)} where f(x) is some function that operates on each value. A Fisher-Yates shuffle could be used to increase efficiency, but this code is sufficient for many purposes. My problem is that sort_by will transform the range into an array, which is not cool because I am working with astronomically large numbers. Ruby will quickly consume a large amount of RAM trying to create a monstrous array. This is also why the following code will not work: tried = {} # store previous attempts bigint = 99**99 bigint.times { x = rand(bigint) redo if tried[x] tried[x] = true f(x) # some function } This code is very naive and quickly runs out of memory as tried obtains more entries. What sort of algorithm can accomplish what I am trying to do?

How do you free a JavaScript JSON allocated using "var json = {"width": 480, "height": 640}"? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Why is JSON outputting out of order?

    - by dcp3450
    I'm am trying to get a list of weather information for 8 locations. I'm using a weather API that accepts longitude and latitude and spits back json output with the weather info for that location. I feed the coords in order 0-7 but when json processes the data it comes back in a seemingly random order. I assume it's because some process faster than others and json is outputing what it gets back as it gets it. The output is correct, only the order is wrong. var loc = null; var body = ""; var campuses = new Array(8); campuses[0] = "34.47242,-84.42489,1"; campuses[1] = "33.81488,-84.62048,2"; campuses[2] = "34.27502,-84.46976,3"; campuses[3] = "33.92987,-84.55065,4"; campuses[4] = "34.03433,-84.46723,5"; campuses[5] = "34.08362,-84.67115,6"; campuses[6] = "33.91124,-84.82634,7"; campuses[7] = "34.10409,-84.51804,8"; function getWeather(campusArray) { body += '<p class="topTitle">Campus Weather</p>'; var cSplit = new Array(); cSplit = campusArray.split(','); var loc = "http://www.worldweatheronline.com/feed/weather.ashx?q="+cSplit[0]+","+cSplit[1]+"&format=json&num_of_days=2&key=0a05fff921162948110401&callback=?"; $('#content').html('asdf'); $.getJSON(loc,function(js) { var data = js.data; var humidity = data.current_condition[0].humidity; var tempF = data.current_condition[0].temp_F; var iconDESC = data.current_condition[0].weatherDesc[0].value; var iconURL = data.current_condition[0].weatherIconUrl[0].value; var windDir = data.current_condition[0].winddir16Point; var windSpeed = data.current_condition[0].windspeedMiles; var tempMaxF = data.weather[0].tempMaxF; var tempMinF = data.weather[0].tempMinF; body += '<p class="title">'+cSplit[2]+'</p>'+ '<span class="body">'+tempF+ ' '+windSpeed+ '<img src="'+iconURL+'" /></span>'; $('#content').html(body); }); } getWeather(campuses[0]); getWeather(campuses[1]); getWeather(campuses[2]); getWeather(campuses[3]); getWeather(campuses[4]); getWeather(campuses[5]); getWeather(campuses[6]); getWeather(campuses[7]); I have also tried it as $.ajax var loc = null; var body = ""; var campuses = new Array(8); campuses[0] = "34.47242,-84.42489,1"; campuses[1] = "33.81488,-84.62048,2"; campuses[2] = "34.27502,-84.46976,3"; campuses[3] = "33.92987,-84.55065,4"; campuses[4] = "34.03433,-84.46723,5"; campuses[5] = "34.08362,-84.67115,6"; campuses[6] = "33.91124,-84.82634,7"; campuses[7] = "34.10409,-84.51804,8"; function getWeather(campusArray) { body += '<p class="topTitle">Campus Weather</p>'; var cSplit = new Array(); cSplit = campusArray.split(','); var loc = "http://www.worldweatheronline.com/feed/weather.ashx?q="+cSplit[0]+","+cSplit[1]+"&format=json&num_of_days=2&key=0a05fff921162948110401&callback=?"; $.ajax({ url: loc, async: true, dataType: "json", success: function(js) { var data = js.data; var humidity = data.current_condition[0].humidity; var tempF = data.current_condition[0].temp_F; var iconDESC = data.current_condition[0].weatherDesc[0].value; var iconURL = data.current_condition[0].weatherIconUrl[0].value; var windDir = data.current_condition[0].winddir16Point; var windSpeed = data.current_condition[0].windspeedMiles; var tempMaxF = data.weather[0].tempMaxF; var tempMinF = data.weather[0].tempMinF; body += '<p class="title">'+cSplit[2]+'</p>'+ '<span class="body">'+tempF+ ' '+windSpeed+ '<img src="'+iconURL+'" /></span>'; $('#content').html(body); } }); } getWeather(campuses[0]); getWeather(campuses[1]); getWeather(campuses[2]); getWeather(campuses[3]); getWeather(campuses[4]); getWeather(campuses[5]); getWeather(campuses[6]); getWeather(campuses[7]); EDIT: example of json output: { "data": { "current_condition": [ {"cloudcover": "100", "humidity": "93", "observation_time": "04:04 PM", "precipMM": "0.0", "pressure": "1009", "temp_C": "2", "temp_F": "36", "visibility": "8", "weatherCode": "116", "weatherDesc": [ {"value": "Mist" } ], "weatherIconUrl": [ {"value": "http:\/\/www.worldweatheronline.com\/images\/wsymbols01_png_64\/wsymbol_0006_mist.png" } ], "winddir16Point": "WNW", "winddirDegree": "290", "windspeedKmph": "7", "windspeedMiles": "4" } ], "request": [ {"query": "Lat 34.47 and Lon -84.42", "type": "LatLon" } ], "weather": [ {"date": "2011-01-06", "precipMM": "9.3", "tempMaxC": "7", "tempMaxF": "45", "tempMinC": "2", "tempMinF": "35", "weatherCode": "113", "weatherDesc": [ {"value": "Sunny" } ], "weatherIconUrl": [ {"value": "http:\/\/www.worldweatheronline.com\/images\/wsymbols01_png_64\/wsymbol_0001_sunny.png" } ], "winddir16Point": "WNW", "winddirDegree": "293", "winddirection": "WNW", "windspeedKmph": "20", "windspeedMiles": "13" }, {"date": "2011-01-07", "precipMM": "0.0", "tempMaxC": "6", "tempMaxF": "44", "tempMinC": "0", "tempMinF": "31", "weatherCode": "116", "weatherDesc": [ {"value": "Partly Cloudy" } ], "weatherIconUrl": [ {"value": "http:\/\/www.worldweatheronline.com\/images\/wsymbols01_png_64\/wsymbol_0002_sunny_intervals.png" } ], "winddir16Point": "WNW", "winddirDegree": "286", "winddirection": "WNW", "windspeedKmph": "25", "windspeedMiles": "16" } ] }}

  • jQuery selector after dynamically created element

    - by Bryan Williams
    I am trying to get an dynamically created element using a jQuery selector but it is returning an empty array. The first thing I am doing is grabbing an empty div: var packDiv = document.getElementById('templates'); packDiv.innerHTML = ""; then adding items to it in a loop: packDiv.innerHTML = packDiv.innerHTML + "<img id='" + thumbName + "' src='thumbs/" + thumbName + "'/>"; after the loop finishes I try to select an item using: console.log($("#"+thumbName)); and it returns the empty array. All the things I search on show to use .on but all the examples show that is to set event handlers. My question is how do I format a selector for dynamically created elements?

  • Split text files Accross threads

    - by Kevin
    The problem: I have a few text files (10) with numbers in them on every line. I need to have them split across some threads I create using the pthread library. these threads that are created (worker threads) are to find the largest prime number that gets sent to them (and over all the largest prime from all of the text files). My current thoughts on solutions: I am thinking myself to have two arrays and all of the text files in one array and the other array will contain a binary file that I can read say 1000 lines and send the pointer to the index of that binary file in a struct that contains the id, file pointer, and file position and let it crank through that. a little bit of what I am talking about pthread_create(&threads[index],NULL,calc_sqrt,(void *)threadFields[index]);//Pass struct to each worker Struct: typedef struct threadFields{ int *id, *position; FILE *Fin; }tField; If anyone has any insight or a better solution it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

  • How do I bind the Overlay Tool for new Ajax elements in Jquery?

Normally, I would use something like this: $(".overlay_popup").bind("click", function(){... but this didn't work for the overlay. Any ideas on how I can successfully do this?

  • Better data-structure design

    - by Tempname
    Currently in my application I have a single table that is giving me a bit of trouble. The issue at hand is I have a value object that is mapped to this table. When the data is returned to me as an array of value objects, I have to then loop through this array and begin my recursion by matching the ParentID to parent ObjectID's. The column ParentID is either null (acts a parent) or it holds the value of an ObjectID. I know there has to be a better way to create this data structure so that I do not have to do recursive loops to match ParentID's with their ObjectID's. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Here is the table in describe form: +----------------+------------------+------+-----+---------------------+-----------------------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------------+------------------+------+-----+---------------------+-----------------------------+ | ObjectID | int(11) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | ObjectHeight | decimal(6,2) | NO | | NULL | | | ObjectWidth | decimal(6,2) | NO | | NULL | | | ObjectX | decimal(6,2) | NO | | NULL | | | ObjectY | decimal(6,2) | NO | | NULL | | | ObjectLabel | varchar(255) | NO | | NULL | | | TemplateID | int(11) unsigned | NO | MUL | NULL | | | ObjectTypeID | int(11) unsigned | NO | MUL | NULL | | | ParentID | int(11) unsigned | YES | MUL | NULL | | | CreationDate | datetime | YES | | 0000-00-00 00:00:00 | | | LastModifyDate | timestamp | YES | | NULL | on update CURRENT_TIMESTAMP | +----------------+------------------+------+-----+---------------------+-----------------------------+e

  • Awk appears to disconnect my DB2 session when piping

    - by greggannicott
    Hello. I'm attempting to run the following command in Korn Shell (ksh): set -A INDEXES `db2 "describe indexes for table ${TABSCHEMA}.${TABNAME} show detail" | awk '{print $1"."$2}'` What I'm attempting to achieve is place a list of the indexes over a particular table into an array which I can later iterate through. The problem is, when I run the above command the contents of the array starts with the error message of 'SQL1024N' (which is telling me that the database connection does not exist). However, if I remove the 'awk' at the end of the statement as so: set -A INDEXES `db2 "describe indexes for table ${TABSCHEMA}.${TABNAME} show detail"` it works just fine (well, to the extent its returning data. Obviously without the awk I'm not capturing the correct data). Does anyone know why the awk is having this affect? I appreciate there is more than one way to get this data, but it baffles me as to why this is happening. Thanks in advance. Greg.

  • PHP create page as a string after PHP runs

    - by John
    I'm stuck on how to write the test.php page result (after php has run) to a string: testFunctions.php: <?php function htmlify($html, $format){ if ($format == "print"){ $html = str_replace("<", "&lt;", $html); $html = str_replace(">", "&gt;", $html); $html = str_replace("&nbsp;", "&amp;nbsp;", $html); $html = nl2br($html); return $html; } }; $input = <<<HTML <div style="background color:#959595; width:400px;"> &nbsp;<br> input <b>text</b> <br>&nbsp; </div> HTML; function content($input, $mode){ if ($mode =="display"){ return $input; } else if ($mode =="source"){ return htmlify($input, "print"); }; }; function pagePrint($page){ $a = array( 'file_get_contents' => array($page), 'htmlify' => array($page, "print") ); foreach($a as $func=>$args){ $x = call_user_func_array($func, $args); $page .= $x; } return $page; }; $file = "test.php"; ?> test.php: <?php include "testFunctions.php"; ?> <br><hr>here is the rendered html:<hr> <?php $a = content($input, "display"); echo $a; ?> <br><hr>here is the source code:<hr> <?php $a = content($input, "source"); echo $a; ?> <br><hr>here is the source code of the entire page after the php has been executed:<hr> <div style="margin-left:40px; background-color:#ebebeb;"> <?php $a = pagePrint($file); echo $a; ?> </div> I'd like to keep all the php in the testFunctions.php file, so I can place simple function calls into templates for html emails. Thanks!

  • Why must I rewind IteratorIterator

    - by chris
    $arrayIter = new ArrayIterator( array(1, 2) ); $iterIter = new IteratorIterator($arrayIter); var_dump($iterIter->valid()); //false var_dump($arrayIter->valid()); //true If I first call $iterIter-rewind(), then $iterIter-valid() is true. I'm curious why it requires that rewind() be called. I imagine there's good reason for it, but I would have expected it to simply start iteration at whatever state it's inner iterator is in, and leave it as an option to rewind before beginning iteration. calling next() also seems to put it in a "valid" state(although it advances to the next position, suggesting it was previously at the first position). $arrayIter = new ArrayIterator(array(1,2)); $iterIter = new IteratorIterator($arrayIter); $iterIter->next(); var_dump($iterIter->valid()); Again, I'm curious why I need to call rewind(), despite the inner iterator being in a valid state.
