• How to convert from one co-ordinate system to another (graphics)

  I've been having issues with this for a little while now. I feel like I should know this but I can't for the life of me remember. How can I map the screen pixels to their respective 'graphical' x,y positions? The co-ordinate systems have been configured to start at the bottom left (0,0) and increase to the top-right. I want to be able to zoom, so I know that I need to configure the zoom distance into the answer. Screen |\ Some Quad | \--------|\Qx | \ Z | \ | \ \|Qy \ | Sx\ |Sy \| I want to know which pixels on my screen will have the quad on it. Obviously as Z decreases, the quad will occupy more of the screen, and as Z increases it will occupy less, but how exactly are these calculated? Thanks for any help.

• How to get just free heap size (not together w stack/method mem) in Java?

  I want to calculate the heap usage for my app. I would like to get a procent value of Heap size only. How do I get the value in code for the current running app? EDIT The upvoted answer is NOT complete/correct. The values returned by those methods include stack and method area too, and I need to monitor only heap size. With that code I got HeapError exception when I reached 43%, so I can't use those methods to monitor just heap.

• Environment.GetFolderPath(...CommonApplicationData) is still returning c:\Docs&Set on Vista

  As i understand it, you're supposed to use Environment.GetFolderPath method so you have OS independent code... WinXP uses C:\Docs and Settings\ Vista uses C:\ProgramData and c:\Users I'm using the code below on a vista computer and it's returning a c:\documents and settings directory instead of c:\ProgramData like it should...   I have a piece of code which looks at the following public Test As Dictionary(Of String, String()) Which is brought in tester = New Dictionary(Of String, String()) tester.add("Key_EN", {"Option 1_EN", "Option 2_EN", "Option 3_EN"}) tester.add("Key_FR", {"Option 1_FR", "Option 2_FR", "Option 3_FR"}) tester.add("Key_DE", {"Option 1_DE", "Option 2_DE", "Option 3_DE"}) There's then a combo box which looks at the following dim Language as string Language = "_EN" ' note this is done by a drop down combo box to select _EN or _FR etc. cboTestBox.items.AddRange(tester("Key" & Language)) What I need to be able to do is to see what index position the answer is in and convert it back to the Key_EN. So, for example _DE is selected, then the options of "Option 1_DE", "Option 2_DE", "Option 3_DE" would be displayed. If they chose Option 3_DE then I need to be able to convert this to Option 3_EN. • Why do I have to use the "origin" for the pull to be successfull

  when I do : git pull BranchName it tells me everything is up to date but I know that is not true. When I do: git pull origin BranchName then I get the files I was expecting. Is there an easy way to answer this or do I need to provide more details. PS One thing I did do just to understant themechanics of git is give the branch name in my cloned repo a different name than on the remote repo. I did however put the right name in the config file like so: [branch "myUDPspinoff"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/UDPspinoff this worked before on another repo but not this one. And when I put everything in the same name thenI did not need to use origin anymore.

  I read that SQL Server 2008 Express R2 database size limit has increased to 10G. That's good news. Can I use the Express edition of SQL Server to offer web hosting services to the public? Microsoft should be best in answering this but I can't find a clear answer on their site. I am also seeing several Windows web hosting plans include SQL Server as a total package for less than $5/month. I am wondering how they can afford to offer this.

  I am trying to create something interesting in my application. So, I created an UILabel and I want to output new value. So, my code. NSString *test = @"13"; self.UserAge.text = @"Your age is %@", test; But it doesn't work. In Console-Command Mode I can do it with NSLog(); My result is "Your age is %@".   I just answered a question where I advised removing parentheses around a statement and was asked why, to which I had no answer when I realised that it caused no errors/warnings. I could only cite bad practice. But maybe I'm the one missing something... I did my own tests: (print('!')); // Outputs '!' ((print('!!'))); // Outputs '!!' (1); // No output (qwerty); // No output (1==2); // No output (1=2); // Syntax error // etc... Can someone shed some light on whats going on and of what use are 'standalone parentheses'?

  With jetty, you can easily produce "html" response importing external file like : <head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="myStyle.css"> <script src="myScript.js"></script> <head> However, where do you put myStyle.css and myScript.js, when jetty is embedded? Especially when the jetty server is a large OpenSource project not written by you? Is there by any chance a nice out.println(???); in the servlet.doGet that would provide the answer, or something similar?

  Do search engines treat the alt text of an image placed within an h1 tag the same way they would treat regular text placed in an h1 tag? I gave a search through here looking for an answer to this question, but was only able to find information on image replacement and the infamous h1 debate. For example would: <h1><img src="#" alt="Contact Us" /></h1> Act the same as: <h1>Contact Us</h1> In the electronic eye of a search engine? This seems considerably less "CSS Hacky" than other image replacement techniques like negative text indents, display:none, height:0, or ridiculous z-index integers.

  My question, is, whether the sequence of elements picked from a list will always be the same, is this construction behaviour is deterministic for java "List"s - descendants of java.util.List 2) question, if I use for(Object o: list) construction and inside the loop's body increment a variable, will it be the index of list's elements? So, how it goes through list's elements, from 0 to size()-1 or chaotically? List.get(i) will always return this element? 3) question ( I suppose for the 2-nd question the answer will be negative, so:) for (int i=0; i < list.size(); i++) { } is the best way if I need to save the index of an element and later get it back from a list by its id?

  I know this question was here a lot of times and can't be answered at all, but im not looking for a single name, but rather for an advice in my situation. I learned programming with Java and now I'm developing in Java for more or less 5 years (at the university) and I thinks my programming skills their are really ok/average. I have also small experience in C/C++ and C#. Now I have some spare time and I'd like to learn a new language or deepen the knowledge of Java/C/C++. But how to choose the right language to learn? I'd like to learn a language which will be usefull in the future concerning working in a software development business? I know there is no single answer, but I'm sure you could mention some languages that are more usefull than others.

  Okay so I've been typing some HTML code for a technology class that I need to satisfy for my Education major. This is what i have for my background: body { background-image:url('islandbeach.jpg'); background-repeat:repeat; background-position:center; background-attachment:fixed; background-size:cover; } Now, I want to make my background transparent or faded so I can see the text and the other image that I have. The background is too colorful to be able to see the words without having to squint. Are there any HTML codes that can do this for me? • java - reduce external jar file size

  Hi all, still learning, so be patient :) I've developed a module for a Java project. The module depends on external library (fastutil). the problem is, the fastutil.jar file is a couple of times heavier than the whole project itself (14 MB). I only use a tiny subset of the classes from the library. the module is now finished, and no-one is likely to extend it in future. is there a way I could extract only the relevant class to some fastutil_small.jar so that others don't have to download all this extra weight? there's probably a simple answer to this, but as I said, I still consider myself a noob. I think chrome v34 works fine. but once my chrome autoupdated to v35, it went back to 'download' file name.

  Can I access a cookie written with jQuery's cookie plug-in with PHP? I know you can't set Javascript equal to PHP or vice versa, but IN ESSENCE is: $.cookie('var') = $_COOKIE['var']? Again, I know you can't set them equal to each other, but if I set it in jQuery and then go to another page, can PHP access it? I've read lots of posts about this, but I can't seem to find an answer to this part. Note, if I look in Firefox's preferences, I can see the cookies are there, so I know they're set.

  Hi i'm doing a fb app that update the status box(what's in your mind), i'm using set_status from facebooker .. first i have this error: set_status needs extended permission so i google it and find this: before_filter :ensure_has_status_update .. so i put it in my controller and that solves the problem, but when i try to update the status, all ways redirect me to a fb page that says: You have already granted permissions to this application. so i go to the controller comment before_filter :ensure_has_status_update and then go to my app again and it works.. so i want to do this if (has_status_update == false) ask for permision else update the status i google it for a long time but i can't find an answer..

• Alternative to CURL due to long waiting

  Hey Guys I currently run a PHP-script using CURL to send data to another server, to do run a PHP-script that could take up to a minute to run. This server doesn't give any data back. But the CURL-request still has to wait for it to complete, and then it loads the rest of the orignal page. I would like my PHP-script to just send the data to the other server and then not wait for an answer. So my question is how should I solve this? I have read that CURL always has to wait. What are your suggestions? Thank You!
