  • Within headers, images with alt text vs. text

    - by Court
    Do search engines treat the alt text of an image placed within an h1 tag the same way they would treat regular text placed in an h1 tag? I gave a search through here looking for an answer to this question, but was only able to find information on image replacement and the infamous h1 debate. For example would: <h1><img src="#" alt="Contact Us" /></h1> Act the same as: <h1>Contact Us</h1> In the electronic eye of a search engine? This seems considerably less "CSS Hacky" than other image replacement techniques like negative text indents, display:none, height:0, or ridiculous z-index integers.

  • Input field name starts with a number

    - by fire
    I have an input field whose name is an MD5 string e.g.: <input type="hidden" name="7815696ecbf1c96e6894b779456d330e" value="1"> Now I understand that having a number as the first letter in an input field name is generally bad practice, but are there any side-effects to this such as a certain browser won't send it in the POST request?

  • Problem keeping CSS footer on bottom

    - by Joshy Poshie
    Hey, I'm having trouble with a relative positioned footer. I'm using a clearfooter div to keep the footer at the bottom of each of my pages. This works fine for all resolutions except for 1440x900, any ideas why this resolution would make the header raise up 10 or so pixels off the bottom? CODE: http://pastie.org/929802

  • How to place some text over the DIV without breaking hover area of this DIV?

    - by Andr
    I'm total noob with CSS and it looks like hell =/ I have absolute positioned DIV and I handle mouse events over this DIV with JS like this: <div style='position: absolute; left: 0px; width:50px; height: 50px;' onmouseover='this.style.border="2px solid red"' onmouseout='this.style.border="1px solid black"'> </div> <div style='position: absolute;'>SOME TEXT</div> I need to place some text over this DIV and over the few same DIVs, but if I place any element over this DIV onMouseOut event is firing when mouse cursor switch to text. Tag with text can't be inside the DIV. Playing with z-index didn`t help. My browser is IE8.

  • How to control div on hover:?

    - by AAA
    I found a way to change the background color of a menu option upon hover. However, when you hover an option, it takes up some wide space that moves all the other options to the right, its sort of annoying, i want to maintain a consistent space, so if i hover, only the color should change, not the option moving to the right. Sort of the way facebook has its menu options. Below is the code: <div id="menu"> <a href="/hello" id="option">home</a> <a href="/hello" id="option">profile</a> <a href="/hello" id="option">account</a> <a href="/hello" id="option">settings</a> <a href="/hello" id="option">extra</a> <a href="/hello" id="option">logout</a> </div> CSS: div#menu { margin-left: 630px; margin-top:-20px; } option { margin-left: 20px; } #option:hover{ background: #3F2327; padding: 10px; }

  • Adding a subject line to mail address in ReCaptcha Mailhide

    - by bongman1612
    I'm not sure if this can be done. I was looking to for a way to add a subject line to an email address hidden via reCaptcha Mailhide. Usually we have a mailto tag which include a subject like so:- <a href="mailto:[email protected]">The text of your link</a> However when we use recaptcha mailhide, we encrypt the email address and the reCaptcha decrypts it for us on completion of the captcha (sort of) So nowhere am I actually setting the subject of the email. Is there a workaround for this?

  • How should I solve this MySql problem (PHP) ? (Beginner)

    - by Camran
    I have several tables in a MySql database. I have a classifieds website, and at the bottom I display the users last visited classifieds. I do this by storing the ID:s of the ads to an array in the cookie. Now, my db is made up like this kindof: Main Table: // Stores global information, ie these fields have to be filled out in every record, never be blank ID Price category Seller Item Table: // Stores descriptive info about whats for sale ID AD_ID (FK) //This is the same as ID in the MAIN TABLE Color Size Mileage etc My problem is that I need to know what category the ad is in, in order to query mysql for the right information I think. So I need two variables, but the cookie only has one (ID) stored. Offcourse I could make two queries, first one just matching the ID to the main_table and fetch the category from the Main_table. Then make the second query and fetch all other info from the right table. Here is an example if the category was Vehicles: SELECT * FROM main_table, vehicles_table, WHERE main_table.id=$id_from_cookie AND main_table.ad_id=vehicles_table.ad_id As you can see above, I need the category to write in what table to check, right? But I think there must be a smarter way, like fetching them in one single query using only one variable (id from cookie)? How should I do this? Understand? Let me know if you need more input... Thanks

  • Issue creating side-by-side slideshows with jQuery

    - by JShweky
    I'm trying to create a site with 2 slideshows. I've tweaked and re-tweaked the JS and Jquery numerous times. Sometimes one slideshow works perfectly and the other cycles between one picture, other times both work but are out of sync, or the fadeIn doesn't seem to be applied to the second slideshow, or in some variations one slideshow stays frozen on the initial image and just remains static. Anyway, I created a JS Fiddle (link at bottom) and apparently my code is at least free of typos. JS is below, the rest is on the JS Fiddle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. $(document).ready(function () { $(".slider #1").fadeIn(1000); $(".slider #1").delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); var sc = $(".slider img").size(); var count = 2; setInterval(function () { $(".slider #" + count).fadeIn(1000); $(".slider #" + count).delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); if (count === sc) { count = 1; } else { count++; } }, 3500); $(".sliderTwo #7").fadeIn(1000); $(".sliderTwo #7").delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); var sc2 = 12; var count2 = 7; setInterval(function () { $(".sliderTwo #" + count2).fadeIn(1000); $(".sliderTwo #" + count2).delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); if (count2 === sc2) { count2 = 7; } else { count2++; } }, 3500); }); http://jsfiddle.net/gg4PL/

  • How to change the color of fixed navigation links when it reaches a certain section?

    - by thosetinydreams
    I'm trying to figure out how to change the color of the links in my fixed navigation (placed on the side of the page) when it reaches a certain section on the page (because the background of that section is the same color as the links in my navigation). I am a jQuery newbie, so I don't really know how to go about this. I tried this, naively thinking it might work (but, as you guessed it, it didn't): if ($('.fixednav').offset().top == $('.intro-section').offset().top) { $('.fixednav a').css('color', '#ececef'); } If anyone could give me a hint, I'd be really grateful!
