  • MySQL LEFT JOIN, INNER JOIN etc, complicated query, PHP + MySQL for a forum

    So I've got a little forum I'm trying to get data for, there are 4 tables, forum, forum_posts, forum_threads and users. What i'm trying to do is to get the latest post for each forum and giving the user a sneak peek of that post, i want to get the number of posts and number of threads in each forum aswell. Also, i want to do this in one query. So here's what i came up with: SELECT lfx_forum_posts.*, lfx_forum.*, COUNT(lfx_forum_posts.pid) as posts_count, lfx_users.username, lfx_users.uid, lfx_forum_threads.tid, lfx_forum_threads.parent_forum as t_parent, lfx_forum_threads.text as t_text, COUNT(lfx_forum_threads.tid) as thread_count FROM lfx_forum LEFT JOIN (lfx_forum_threads INNER JOIN (lfx_forum_posts INNER JOIN lfx_users ON lfx_users.uid = lfx_forum_posts.author) ON lfx_forum_threads.tid = lfx_forum_posts.parent_thread AND lfx_forum_posts.pid = (SELECT MAX(lfx_forum_posts.pid) FROM lfx_forum_posts WHERE lfx_forum_posts.parent_forum = lfx_forum.fid GROUP BY lfx_forum_posts.parent_forum) ) ON lfx_forum.fid = lfx_forum_posts.parent_forum GROUP BY lfx_forum.fid ORDER BY lfx_forum.fid ASC This get the latest post in each forum and gives me a sneakpeek of it, the problem is that lfx_forum_posts.pid = (SELECT MAX(lfx_forum_posts.pid) FROM lfx_forum_posts WHERE lfx_forum_posts.parent_forum = lfx_forum.fid GROUP BY lfx_forum_posts.parent_forum) Makes my COUNT(lfx_forum_posts.pid) go to one (aswell as the COUNT(lfx_forum_threads.tid) which isn't how i would like it to work. My question is: is there some somewhat easy way to make it show the correct number and at the same time fetch the correct post info (the latest one that is)? If something is unclear please tell and i'll try to explain my issue further, it's my first time posting something here.

  • acts_as_solr returns all rows in the database when using the model as search query

    In our application we're using acts_as_solr for search. Everything seems to be running smoothly except for the fact that using the model name as the search query returns every single row in the table. For example, let's say we have a users table. We specify acts_as_solr in our model to search the fields first name, last name and handle acts_as_solr :fields = [:handle, :lname, :fname]. When you use "user" as the search term it returns every single user in the system, or every row in the database as a result. Has anyone else run into this?

  • Issues adding search to iPhone app

    Hi, Basically I'm trying to add a search function to my iPhone app, but I'm not having much luck at the moment. I've downloaded the Apple provided Table Search app, and have copied across the code to mine. It builds OK, but here's the problem. Unlike the Apple example, all my data is stored in an array, that is accessed by calling [ciParser.currentArray]. Any ideas on how to change the code to suit my needs? I'm getting an error "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '* -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0)'" whenever I click on the search bar and the app exits. Below is the code in particular that the debugger highlights as being troublesome. Apparently this error means the database trying to be searched is empty, but I could be wrong.     Hello, I have this function that creates a unique number for hard-disk and CPU combination. Any ideas, why? Thank you. Edit: OK, Got it: This function returns the volume serial number that the operating system assigns when a hard disk is formatted. To programmatically obtain the hard disk's serial number that the manufacturer assigns, use the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Win32_PhysicalMedia property SerialNumber. I should do more research before posting my problems online. Sorry to bother you, let's keep this here in case anybody else can need it.

  • I'm trying to build a query to search against a fulltext index in mysql

    The table's schema is pretty simple. I have a child table that stores a customer's information like address and phone number. The columns are user_id, fieldname, fieldvalue and fieldname. So each row will hold one item like phone number, address or email. This is to allow an unlimited number of each type of information for each customer. The people on the phones need to look up these customers quickly as they call into our call center. I have experimented with using LIKE% and I'm working with a FULLTEXT index now. My queries work, but I want to make them more useful because if someone searches for a telephone area code like 805 that will bring up many people, and then they add the name Bill to narrow it down, '805 Bill'. It will show EVERY customer that has 805 OR Bill. I want it to do AND searches across multiple rows within each customer. Currently I'm using the query below to grab the user_ids and later I do another query to fetch all the details for each user to build their complete record. SELECT DISTINCT `user_id` FROM `user_details` WHERE MATCH (`fieldvalue`) AGAINST ('805 Bill') Again, I want to do the above query against groups of rows that belong to a single user, but those users have to match the search keywords. What should I do?

    I am having a bit of an issue with this problem. I am taking a Pascal programming class and this problem was in my logic book. I am required to have the user enter a series of (+) numbers and once he/she enters a (-) number, the program should find the sum of all the (+) numbers. I accomplished this, but now I am attempting part two of this problem, which requires me to utilize a nested loop to run the program x amount of times based on the user's input. I see that reorder takes a vector, and I'm here using a matrix. My real data has one character vector and another as a data.frame. I figured that the data structure would not matter too much for this example above, I just need help with the syntax and can adapt it to my real problem.

  • iPhone RSS thumbnail

    I have a simple RSS reader. Stories are downloaded, put into a UITableView, and when you click it, each story loads in a UIWebView. It works great. Now though, I'd like to incorporate an image on the left side (like you'd see in the YouTube app). However, since my app pulls from an RSS feed, I can't simply specify image X to appear in row X because row X will be row Y tomorrow, and things will get out of order, you know? I am currently pulling from a YouTube RSS feed, and can get the video title, description, publication date, but I'm stuck as to how to pull the little thumbnail besides each entry in the feed. As you can probably tell, I'm a coding newbie (this being my first application other than a Hello World app) and I'm getting so frustrated by my own lack of knowledge. Thanks!   • Silverlight - rebinding to a property?

    Hello, I'm just getting started with silverlight. Basically I have a silverlight user control that has various dataGrids and a combobox, their item sources set to the properties of a custom plain c# object. My problem is that I have a dropdown list that when a user selects an item from the list a new row should appear in one of the grids. All I'm doing is handling the SelectionChanged event and adding a new item to to a list in my custom object and setting the itemsource for the grid again. This doesnt seem to work; no row is added to the dataGrid I have no idea how to force my grid to "rebind" to this property. I've been reading about dependency properties, are these what I need? Any pointers would be really appreciated.

  • Using SortableRows and know when rows have been moved

    I want to take advantage of the sortableRows property of the jqGrid. How do I detect when a row has been moved. I have studied the documentation and looked for examples but haven't found much. I do believe it is something like jQuery("#grid").sortableRows({connectWith:'#gird', ondrop: function(){ alert("row moved") }}); but that does not work. I can move the rows, but don't seemed to have trapped the event. Is there something wrong with my syntax or my approach in general. Basically, I need to know that the rows have been rearranged so I can be sure they get saved with their new order. Thanks

Well, i have a custom list view in which every row have a custom .xml (item_row.xml) with a set color background for the row item. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="70dip" android:orientation="vertical" android:background="@drawable/list_bg"> The problem is when i try to make a selector for the list. I want two things: When the item is focused, appears the typical orange rectangle over him. When the item is pressed the same. I have proved with a selector and a custom style but all i get is or the selector doesn't appear or the selector covering the item so i can't see it.   • How to use custom color for each textview in listview that extends SimpleAdapter in Android ?

    I have a listview with custom rows and that extends SimpleAdapter. Each row consist of two linear layouts : 1st having two textviews of which one is hidden in horizontal orientation, second having two textviews in horizontal orientation. Now depending on the value in hidden textview , I want to setcolor for the remaining items for the row. To put it as simple: each listview item has some custom colors the value of which comes from the hidden field. I have done this by overriding getview() for the simpleadapter and returning view for each, but this makes list very slow to render (and that I think is obvious as so much of work for each view before showing it). Can I do this in some more efficient way ? like making views and then add up to list instead of using xml layout maybe one solution OR any other ? Any help ? Thanks.

    Hello, I am trying to do what I believe is called a join query. First, in a MySQL table called "login," I want to look up what "loginid" is in the record where "username" equals $profile. (This will be just one record / row in the MySQL table). Then, I want to take that "loginid" and look up all rows / records in a different MySQL table called "submission," and pull data that have that "loginid." This could possibly be more than one record / row. How do I do this? The code below doesn't seem to work.     I asked this question on SO. However, I wish to extend it further. I would like to find the max value of the 'Reading' column only where the 'state' is of value 'XX' for example. So if I join the two tables, how do I get the row with max(Reading) value from the result set. Eg.   • Which parts of the client certificate to use when uniquely identifying users?

    I'm designing a system where users will be able to register and afterward authenticate with client certificates in addition to username/password authentication. The client certificates will have to be valid certificates issued by a configured list of certificate authorities and will be checked (validated) when presented. In the registration phase, I need to store part(s) of the client certificate in a user repository (DB, LDAP, whatever) so that I can map the user who authenticates with client certificate to an internal "user". One fairly obvious choice would be to use certificate fingerprint; But fingerprint itself is not enough, since collisions may occur (even though they're not probable), so we need to store additional information from the certificate. This SO question is also informative in this regard. RFC 2459 defines (4.1.2.2) that certificate serial number must be unique within a given CA. With all of this combined, I'm thinking of storing certificate serial number and certificate issuer for each registered user. Given that client certificates will be verified and valid, this should uniquely identify each client certificate. That way, even when client certificate is renewed, it would still be valid (serial number stays the same, and so does the issuer). Did I miss something?
