  • How to develop "Client script library" for ASP.net controls and how do these work?

    I have been working on .Net platform for 2 years and right now I am working on DevExpress controls for 6 months. All these control have client-side Events which are under some ClientScript nameSpace of particular control, Which specify ClientInstanceName, methods and properties accessible at client side. For example Button1 is ClientInstanceName and Button1.Text is a property, with methods like these: Button1.SetValue(); Button1.GetValue(); In ASP.Net Controls, buttons have the ClientClick event that fires before the Server Side Click event. I have inspected and goggled to extend client side functionality in asp.net controls. For example: create a ClientInstanceName property for controls or CheckedChanged event for CheckBox / RadioButton control. I have tried using these MSDN articles: Injecting Client-Side Script from an ASP.NET Server Control Working with Client-Side Script I got much information and ideas from these articles on how to implement/extend these. Ajax Controls can be directed to perform work from server side code e.g. Popup1.show(); How can I do this with such client enabled controls implemented controls as windows do? I am learning creation of Ajax Controls but I do not want to use ScriptManager or depend on another control. Just some extension to standard controls. I am expecting for ideas and implementation methods for such functionality.

    Inline images is a technique that, instead of referring to an external URL, includes all of the image’s content in the HTML itself, in the form of a Base64-encoded string. It avoids a second browser request, at the cost of making the HTML page slightly heavier and not using cache. Not all browsers support it, but current versions of IE, Firefox and Chrome do.     LS, I was planning on writing a wrapper around the System.Net.Sockets.Socket class, because I didn't feel like using the SSLStream class because I wanted to maintain backwards compatibility with other programs. I found an article which does exactly what I want, but on Windows Mobile. (Link: Enable SSL for managed socket on windows mobile) Quote: My first surprise was that SetSocketOption takes a SocketOptionName enum value as the second parameter, but this enum doesn’t have the equivalent of SO_SECURE. However, C# was nice enough to let me cast an arbitrary integer value to the enum I needed. I tried to do the same, but it doesn't work.     I'd like to use SSL for the post action on the login page of my MVC 1.0 app. I've seen some articles related to the [RequireSSL] attribute in ASP.NET MVC Futures. However, since this works using a redirect, I assume it's not an option (can't redirect a POST, correct?). Ultimately, my goal is to get the Html.BeginForm method to render "https://..." as the form's action so that I can secure the information being posted (login info). How have others handled this?

  • Make PasswordRecovery control work with locked out users ?

    Example scenario in an ASP.NET application using SQL Server membership provider : 1) a user can't remember their exact password, and tries many times in a short space of time to login with an invalid password (say 5 times in a 10 minute window). This locks out the user (i.e. sets the IsLockedOut flag of the aspnet_Membership table to 1). 2) user goes to the "forgot my password" screen to try to get a new password emailed to them. This screen uses the PasswordRecovery control. User enters their correct user id, but then cannot go further in the password recovery process, since the IsLockedOut flag is 1. (They don't even get to see their security question). 3) The user would then have to phone tech support to get themselves unlocked etc. To reduce the burden on support staff, we are trying to eliminate step 3) if possible, by making the PasswordRecovery control (if possible), work with locked out users. i.e. when they enter their login ID, the security question comes up, and IF they enter the correct answer, the system will unlock the user, then send the new email to them. I'm wondering if it is possible to tweak the PasswordRecovery control to do this. Or maybe I'm approaching this the wrong way ?

    Hello, when I try to connect my server throw connector/net using ssl with pfx certificate I had problem with establishing the connection. I get connection timeout. And the server probably fall down (I dont know it for sure, becouse I dont manage the server). On the Windows XP works all right, but on Windows 7 dont. Please, where is problem? In Windows 7 or on the server (mysql 5.0)? Sometimes I get "Calling interface SSPI Failed" error, but not everytime. Sometimes is only connection timeout error. Thank you a lot for any help. When the user submits these pages, an XML file with private information is sent to the webservice. How can I provide the necessary privacy protection on the XML file?     I am trying to install an SSL certificate, and I get the following errors: AH02241: Init: Unable to read server certificate from file /path/my.crt SSL Library Error: error:0D0680A8:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_CHECK_TLEN:wrong tag SSL Library Error: error:0D07803A:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_ITEM_EX_D2I:nested asn1 error (Type=X509) AH02312: Fatal error initialising mod_ssl, exiting. Here's the process I followed: I generated my private key with: openssl genrsa -out my.key 2048 I created the CSR with: openssl req -new -key my.key -out my.csr I provided the CSR to our IT department, and they returned a crt - it starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- My ssl.conf has (my.example.com matches the Common name used during the generation of the CSR): <VirtualHost my.example.com:443> SSLEngine On ServerName my.example.com SSLCertificateFile /path/my.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/my.key </VirtualHost> I do not have SSLCertificateChainFile or SSLCACertificate file set. The private key starts with ----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----- The csr starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- I have verified that both: openssl rsa -noout -modulus -in my.key openssl req -noout -modulus -in my.csr produce the same output. I cannot figure out how to verify the crt - trying both x509 and rsa produce an error. Should this process have worked? Can I verify that my.crt matches the key somehow?

    I'd like to authenticate FTP clients either via username+password or a client certificate. Only FTPS is allowed. User/password works, but while testing with curl (I don't have another option) and a client certificate, I need to pass a user. If I specify a user with -u username:pass it works, but it would without a certificate too.   • Ubuntu 12.04 LDAP SSL self-signed cert not accepted

    I'm working with Ubuntu 12.04, using OpenLDAP server. I've followed the instructions on the Ubuntu help pages and can happily connect without security. To test my connection, I'm using ldapsearch the command looks like: ldapsearch -xv -H ldap://ldap.[my host].local -b dc=[my domain],dc=local -d8 -ZZ I've also used: ldapsearch -xv -H ldaps://ldap.[my host].local -b dc=[my domain],dc=local -d8 As far as I can tell, I've setup my certificate correctly, but no matter why I try, I can't seem to get ldapsearch to accept my self-signed certificate. So far, I've tried: Updating my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf file to look like: BASE dc=[my domain],dc=local URI ldaps://ldap.[my host].local TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.crt TLS_REQCERT allow Updating my /etc/ldap.conf file to look like: base dc=[my domain],dc=local uri ldapi:///ldap.[my host].local uri ldaps:///ldap.[my host].local ldap_version 3 ssl start_tls ssl on tls_checkpeer no TLS_REQCERT allow Updating my /etc/default/slapd to include: SLAPD_SERVICES="ldap:/// ldapi:/// ldaps:///" Several hours of Googling, most of which resulted in adding the TLS_REQCERT allow The exact error I'm seeing is: ldap_initialize( ldap://ldap.[my host].local ) request done: ld 0x20038710 msgid 1 TLS certificate verification: Error, self signed certificate in certificate chain TLS: can't connect. ldap_start_tls: Connect error (-11) additional info: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed After several hours of this, I was hoping someone else has seen this issue, and/or knows how to fix it. Please do let me know if I should add more information, or if you need further data.

  • Why apache doesn't restart after configuring SSL?

    I've installed apache2 and then configure it to work with SSL following this and this tutorials, the problem becomes when I try to restart the service, the following error throws: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs the output of netstat -anp | grep 443 just display firefox listening and anything else, how could I solve this and get the service running??     I'm trying to connect to an SSL-enabled mysql server from my own java application. After setting up ssl on mysqld, and successfuly tested an account using "REQUIRE ISSUER and SUBJECT", I wanted to use that account in a java app. I've generated a private key (to a file called keystore.jks) and csr using keytool, and signed the csr using my own CA(The same used with mysqld and its certificate). Once signed the csr, I've imported the CA and client cert into the keystore.jks file. When running the application the SSL connection can't be established. Relevant logs: ...   • Issue with SSL using HAProxy and Nginx

    I'm building a highly available site using a multiple HAProxy load balancers, Nginx web serves, and MySQL servers. The site needs to be able to survive load balancer or web servers nodes going offline without any interruption of service to visitors. Currently, I have two boxes running HAProxy sharing a virtual IP using keepalived, which forward to two web servers running Nginx, which then tie into two MySQL boxes using MySQL replication and sharing a virtual IP using heartbeat. Everything is working correctly except for SSL traffic over HAProxy. I'm running version 1.5 dev12 with openssl support compiled in. When I try to navigate to the virtual IP for haproxy over https, I get the message: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port.   • Domain changes required for SSL integration

    Currently my site supports regular payment options (User is taken to Payment Gateway/PG website). Now I'm trying to implement "seamless" PG integration. I need SSL for this. I'm having a dedicated server with 5 static IPs from Hostgator/HG. options: I take SSL for www.my_domain.com. According to HG, I need to change IP of main site as current IP is not really dedicated as it is being shared by cpanel etc. So They need to bind another dedicated IP to main domain for SSL to work. This would required DNS change for main website and hence cause few hours downtime (which is ok). I've noticed that most of the e-commerce websites are using subdomains like secure.my_domain.com for ssl/https. This sounds like a better approach. But I've got few doubts in this case: a) Would I need to re-register with existing PGs (Paypal, Google Checkout, Authorize.net) if I switch to subdomain? Re-registering is not an option for me. b) Would DNS change be required for www.my_domain.com in this case. This confusion arose because of following reply from HG : "If the sub domain secure.my_domain.com is added to an existing cPanel it will use the IP for that cPanel so as long as it is a Dedicated IP that will be fine. If secure.my_domain.com gets setup as its own cPanel it will need to be assigned to a Dedicated IP which would have a DNS change involved.". PLease suggest.

  • Error during SSL installation cPanel/WHM

    I have a dedicated server and I am using the install wizard via WHM to install an SSL certificate. I have the following keys: Certificate key RSA private key CA certificate I paste these three elements into the wizard along with the domain, IP address and username but I get this error: SSL install aborted due to error: Unable to save certificate key. Certificate verification passed Have I missed a step? I have given it another go to make sure I am copying and pasting the info correctly and I am now getting the following error: SSL install aborted due to error: Sorry, you must have a dedicated ip to use this feature for the user: username! If you are intending to install a shared certificate you must use the username "nobody" for security and bandwidth reporting reasons. Even though I am using a dedicated IP address, I am getting this problem. I thought I would also add that this SSL certificate has been installed on a shared hosting environment with my previous hostig provider. The account with them is still active, however the domain and its contents now reside on the dedicated server - could this cause problems?

  • SSL connection error for only one site (of many) on server

    I have a server running many websites, each with SSL. One of the sites is now refusing connections over SSL. This was previously working and I'm looking for assistance in determining what has been changed. Here's the situation: http://site1.com/ - works https://site1.com/ - works http://site2.com/ - works https://site2.com/ - Doesn't work (but did previously) Both sites are on the same server (Win Server 2003 SP2 - IIS6) Both sites use certificates from the same authority and are both valid (according to IIS). As far as I can tell, both sites have certificates configured identically in IIS. (Checked by a manual/visual check of properties, side by side) Through use of OpenSSL I can see that there's a "ssl handshake failure" when trying to connect to site2 using https. What could be the cause of this? How can I investigate further? Without SSL connections being available to this site, users are unable to log in or register. :( disclaimer: I'm not a server admin and not responsible for the box. Yes, there are wider issues here but I need to get this working again first.
