In Linux I would like to run a program but only for a limited time, like 1 second. If the program exceeds this running time I would like to kill the process and show an error message.
Here's my ASP Classic:
set irs = recordset(sql,PageDB)
if not irs.eof then
dim new_list
new_list = ""
do while not irs.eof
'Add irs("name") to new_list and seperate by comma
irs.movenext
loop
end if
kill(irs)
How would I add irs(name) to new_list and seperate by a comma?
I have a method running on the EDT and within that I want to make it execute something on a new (non EDT) thread. My current code is follows:

//below code I want to run in new Thread and then kill this thread/(close the JFrame)
new GameInitializer(userName, player, Constants.BLIND_STRUCTURE_FILES.get(blindStructure), handState);
}
After updating SDK tools rev to 20, Android emulator doesn't take keyboard input from my desktop keyboard. When press a key of the desktop keyboard, the emulator will dead and I have to kill its process.
Android emulator also didn't take keyboard input from emulator own keyboard. But I have fixed this by following the steps in Android emulator doesn't take keyboard input - SDK tools rev 20.
Does anyone have some suggestions?

We have a .Net application that runs as a shell for certain users. We'd like the application to automatically restart when it crashes.
The application is set as the shell here:
HKEY_USERS*User*\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\WinLogon\Shell
I've tried adding an "AutoRestartShell" key with a value of "1", like what exists in:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\WinLogon.
When I kill the application's process for the user (via RDP) the application exits, but never restarts.
Ideas?
Hello.
Some of the old projects in our company are left to be built with VS2005 in autobuild system (making them build correctly in 2010 cost time). Is it any addins for VS2010 that will allow to open VS2005 project and edit it's files without converting project file itself to VS2010 format (converting will kill autobuild)? Of course i can create a separate project named "xxx_vs2010.vcproj" for each of such products, but that will be a mess :(.
I want to separate my classes into separate packages in my android project in eclipse however whenever I do this I get errors. Does anyone know how to do this without having eclipse kill my project.
My application (developed using C#.net) is open now i uninstall, InstallShield gives message stating the application is already open and whether really want to close the application. Selection 'Ignore' continues uninstall. Some files and the exe of the application are not closed. How to close them by installshield on uninstall. Or there are some properties I have to set. I know adding a custom action at uninstall i can kill the process, but shouldn't installshield do it?
I have a TCPclient written on Ruby. I want to use it in background. Currently it has a loop:
loop do
end
So i can run a client, and it works forever.
Is there a way to run in as a service, and write a pid to file, then i'll able to kill that process by pid?

Hey guys recently I have had the 'priveledge' of trying to set up an anti virus scanner to scan file uploads to my VPN server. I just finished trying to set up ClamAV but it slowed my server down to a hault once initiated so I had to kill it. Does anyone have any recommendations to a program that will accomplish my task and can be executed in php (other than clamAv)? Any advice greatly appreciated.
In the following script, I get the "stop message received" output but the process never ends. Why is that? Is there another way to end a process besides terminate or os.kill that is along these lines?
from multiprocessing import Process
from time import sleep
class Test(Process):
def __init__(self):
Process.__init__(self)
self.stop = False
def run(self):
while self.stop == False:
print "running"
sleep(1.0)
def end(self):
print "stop message received"
self.stop = True
if __name__ == "__main__":
test = Test()
test.start()
sleep(1.0)
test.end()
test.join()
Imagine I create and execute an NSThread object using detachNewThreadSelector:toTarget:withObject:. The method executed by the thread might look like this:
- (void)search {
NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init];
// perform a lengthy search here.
[pool release];
}
I then might use the cancel method to kill the thread while it's running, before the pool gets released. What happens to the NSAutoreleasePool object? I suppose it will leak, won't it?
I'm looking for some simple tasks like listing all the running process of a user, or kill a particular process by pid etc. Basic unix process management from Java. Is there a library out there that is relatively mature and documented? I could run a external command from the JVM and then parse the standard output/error but that seems like a lot of work and not robust at all. Any suggestions?
Hi All,
In a bash script i want to do the following (in pseudo-code):
if [ a process exists with $PID ]; then
kill $PID
fi
What's the appropriate bash for the conditional statement?
Thanks
I am running my java application. It shows up in the process tab of the task manager. I dont want users to kill that process?
And if possible i dont want my process to be in the process list also.
On Linux, normally I use ptrace function to trace all syscall, and kill the process if the it tries to do anything harmful to my machine, such as system("shutdown -s -t 00") or so.
Is there a way for me to do this on Windows?
EDIT: I want to write Sandbox program to limit time and memory usage of its child that can work on both Windows and Linux, and now it can only run on Linux via ptrace
I am running some sample tests against mysql, and finding that there are a bunch of queries which are stuck in "copying to tmp tables". They remain stuck in the same state. They are usually aggregate queries and I can kill those queries. But how can I find out what is causing them to be stuck? I am using mysql 5.1.42 with the innodb plugin.
Hello,
I'm making a script to to run a bunch of multicast asr streams, but I do not know how to "stop" or "end" a multicast asr stream after a certain amount of time. Loop Suspend does not do what I'm looking for. I've also tried to add a sleep command followed by a kill command, but they kick in after the stream ends (so that approach does not work). Thanks for any possible help! By the way, I'm writing this script in bash.
Hi,
I'm use nosetests to run some tests. However, after the tests have finished running, the nosetests process just sits there, and will not exit. Is there anyway to diagnose this? Does Python have a facility similar to sending Java a kill -QUIT which will print a stack trace?
Has anybody an idea in which case this can happen?
GDB output:
0 .. 8: kill, abort, objc_exception_throw etc.

Is there a way to know when a specific process is "stuck" in Java?
I'm running an external application from my java program. Sometimes, this app hangs. I would like to know when this app stops working so I can kill it from my code. I'm thinking of some type of monitoring from a different thread in my code.
Any toughts?
Hi, people. For a academic exercise i have to implement a program in c for nix platform which is to synchronize multiple processes through signal handling, using only signal,pause,kill and fork basic functions.
I searched google and have not found any clear example: I hope the wisdom of one of you will light my way.
Thanks!
Hi,
I want to get a list with all the threads (except the main, GUI thread) from within my application in order to do some action(s) with them. (set priority, kill, pause etc.)
How to do that?
