  Hi all, (LocalVariable)ABC.string(Name)= (Idatareader)datareader.GetString(0); this name value is coming from database.. what happening here is if this name value is null while reading it's throwing an exception? I am manually doing some if condition here. I don't want to write a manual condition to check all my variables.. • ArrayBlockingQueue - How to "interrupt" a thread that is wating on .take() method

  I use an ArrayBlockingQueue in my code. Clients will wait untill an element becomes available: myBlockingQueue.take(); How can I "shutdown" my service in case no elements are present in the queue and the take() ist wating indefenitely for an element to become available? This method throws an InterruptedException. My question is, how can I "evoke" an Interrupted Exception so that take() will quit? (I also tought about notify(), but it seems I doesnt help here..) I know I could insert an special "EOF/QUIT" marker Element but is this really the only solution? UPDATE (regarding the comment, that points to another question with two solutions: one mentioned above using a "Poisoning Pill Object" and the second one is Thread.interrupt(): The myBlockingQueue.take() is used NOT in a Thread (extending Thread) but rather implements Runnable. It seems a Runnable does not provide the .interrupt() method? How could I interrupt the Runnable? Million Thanks Bernhard

The concept works, but I'm stuck on how to pass context to my renderer. • Silverlight datagrid don't show any data with anonymous query RIA services

I have an anonymous linq query that I bind to a datagrid, when I debug it brings alright the data but it doesn't show in the datagrid, I suspect that the request to RIA services isn't completed before I bound it to the datagrid. I could use the LoadOperation<() Completed event. But it only works with Defined Entities so how can I do that? This action is done thousands of times a day, and I get this exception about once every 5 seconds. From what I understand it happens when something changes in the database in the period between creating DataContext and updating it. Am I right? What's the problem here and how can I fix it?

• Finding Errant Output to System.out in Large Java Program

  Hi, We have a large java code base [~1 M Lines]. Buried (somewhere) in the code base is some old debug output to System.out that we want to remove (its cluttering things up). The problem is: out code base is so large that we can't easily find where the output is coming from. What we want is a way to see where System.out.println is getting called from (like a stack trace from an exception or some such). Its not suitable to debugging -- the errant output is coming from some errant thread somewhere etc. Any ideas on how to track the source of this errant output down? PS: 99.99% of calls to System.out are legit, and we have thousands of them, so simply searching the code base for System.out calls is not a solution!

• The Elegant way to handle Cyclic Event in Java ??

  Hi fellows, i think this not a specific problem to me; everybody might have encountered this issue before. To properly illustrate it, here's a simple UI: As you can see, those two spinners are controlling a single variable -- "A". The only difference is that they control it using different views. If i change the top spinner, "A" will be changed and the bottom spinner's value will also be updated accordingly. However, updating the bottom spinner's call (such as setValue) will also trigger another event instructing the top spinner to update based on the bottom spinner's value. Thus creates a bad cycle which can eventually cause a StackOverFlow exception. My previously solution is kinda cumbersome: i placed a guarding boolean to indicate whether the 2nd updating call should be performed. Now i'd like to ask "how can i handle such situation elegantly?" thx

• SoundPool.load() and FileDescriptor from file

  I tried using the load function of the SoundPool that takes a FileDescriptor, because I wanted to be able to set the offset and length. The File is not stored in the Ressources but a file on the storage card. Even though neither the load nor the play function of the SoundPool throw any Exception or print anything to the console, the sound is not played. Using the same code, but use the file path string in the SoundPool constructor works perfectly. This is how I have tried the loading (start equals 0 and length is the length of the file in miliseconds): FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(new File(mFile)); mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(fileIS.getFD(), start, length, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); If I would use this, it works: mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(mFile, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); Any ideas anyone?   When using TRY-CATCH in JavaScript, how to get the line number of the line that caused the error? On many browsers, the below code will work great and I will get the stack trace that points to the actual line that throw the exception. However, some browsers do not have "e.stack". Iphone's safari is one example.   I'm validating the installation of a program that consists of a few separate modules. They are not co-dependent. I have apple.jar and orange.jar, they are placed in the same folder and were developed in the same project, but run independent of each other. Running apple.jar goes fine, but orange.jar gives me a NoClassDefFoundError pointing to apple.jar. /usr/java/jre1.6.0_14/bin/java -jar validator.jar Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: orange/client/Apple Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: orange.client.Apple at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(Unknown Source) Could not find the main class: validator/client/StormDataXMLGenerator.   I need a generalized method to get list of runtime parameters (values) when I call a procedure. I need something similar to the $$PLSQL_UNIT that returns the name of the running procedure.   Hello, I am using a fileContentResult to render a file to the browser. It works well except that it throws an exception when the fileName contains international characters. I remember reading somewhere that this feature does not support international characters but I am sure there mustbe a workaround or a best practice people follow in cases the application needs to upload files in countries other than US. • Why C++ virtual function defined in header may not be compiled and linked in vtable?

  Situation is following. I have shared library, which contains class definition - QueueClass : IClassInterface { virtual void LOL() { do some magic} } My shared library initialize class member QueueClass *globalMember = new QueueClass(); My share library export C function which returns pointer to globalMember - void * getGlobalMember(void) { return globalMember;} My application uses globalMember like this ((IClassInterface*)getGlobalMember())->LOL(); Now the very uber stuff - if i do not reference LOL from shared library, then LOL is not linked in and calling it from application raises exception. Reason - VTABLE contains nul in place of pointer to LOL() function. When i move LOL() definition from .h file to .cpp, suddenly it appears in VTABLE and everything works just great. What explains this behavior?! (gcc compiler + ARM architecture_)

• Program hangs when calling parseFrom for java implementation of protobuf

  I have a message (say its called OuterMessage) message OuterMessage { optional int64 id = 1; optional InnerMessage inner = 2; } and an inner message message InnerMessage { optional string type = 1; optioanl int64 id = 2; } Now when I call parseFrom on OuterMessage like OuterMessage.parseFrom(buffer) the method never returns and nor does it throw any exception. But if I do InnerMessage.parseFrom(buffer) it returns an empty InnerMessage instance. I am serializing the message using protobuf-net. Any idea what might be causing the issue?

• Best practice with respect to NPE and multiple expressions on single line

  I'm wondering if it is an accepted practice or not to avoid multiple calls on the same line with respect to possible NPEs, and if so in what circumstances. For example: getThis().doThat(); vs Object o = getThis(); o.doThat(); The latter is more verbose, but if there is an NPE, you immediately know what is null. However, it also requires creating a name for the variable and more import statements. So my questions around this are: Is this problem something worth designing around? Is it better to go for the first or second possibility? Is the creation of a variable name something that would have an effect performance-wise? Is there a proposal to change the exception message to be able to determine what object is null in future versions of Java ?

  Does anyone have a technique to automap (using Automapper) references to child entities. So say I have a ViewModel: class AddressModel { int Id; string Street; StateModel State; } class StateModel { int Id; string Name; } And I pass this into a repository to map to equivalent entities in Entity Framework. When Automapping, I want it to automap AddressModel.State.ID to the EntityKey of AddressEntity.StateReference. So hand crafted code would look like this: addressEntity.Id = AddressModel.Id; addressEntity.Street = AddressModel.Street addressEntity.StateReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyDB.States", "Id", AddressModel.State.Id); Obviously, when automapper tries to assign an Address.State.Id to the equivalent in EF, an exception is thrown.
