  • How can I get to the value of my WPF UserControl DependencyProperty from UI Automation Framework?

    Hi, I'm having trouble getting access to my WPF UserControl DependencyProperty values through the UI Automation Framework. I've used James McCaffreys article in MSDN as a starting point (Automating IO Tests in WPF Applications, MSDN March 2009), but I can only see properties etc in standard controls such as buttons. I'm assuming there's some Automation interface I have to implement on my UserControl, but what and how? I can already see my control fine e.g. in UISpy, but I can't see the dependency properties within it.   • ReSharper Unit Test Runner: Support for Deployment Items

    I like the Unit test runner in ReSharper 4.5, and would like to use it with my MSTest tests, but one thing annoys me: In some of our solutions, we have set up some Deployment Items in the .testrunconfig file. The ReSharper Unit Test runner does not seem to respect this, so I get errors when trying to run the unit tests from ReSharper. Is there any workraound for this ? Update: citizenmatt's answer was correct, the option to use a .testrunconfig with ReSharper exists in the Options dialog of ReSharper. You have to select the unit test provider on the list, then the controls to do that appears. (That was not obvious or discoverable, at least not for me ;-)

    I'm using rr and rspec. Also, I'm using the collection short hand for partial rendering. My question: How do I correctly fill out the the following spec? before(:each) do assigns[:models] = Array.new(10, stub(Model)) end it "should render the 'listing' partial for each model" do # help me write something that actually verifies this end I've tried a few examples from the rspec book, rspec docs, and rr docs. Everything I try seems to leave me with runtime errors in the test - not failed assertions. Rather than show all the transformations I've tried, I figured all I'd need if someone showed me one that actually worked. I'd be good to go from there.

  • Why is my Extension Method not showing up in my test class?

    I created an extension method called HasContentPermission on the System.Security.Principal.IIdentity interface: namespace System.Security.Principal { public static bool HasContentPermission (this IIdentity itentity, int contentID) { // I do stuff here return result; } } And I call it like this: bool hasPermission = User.Identity.HasPermission(contentID); Works like a charm. Now I want to unit test it. To do that, all I really need to do is call the extension method directly, so: using System.Security.Principal; namespace MyUnitTests { [TestMethod] public void HasContentPermission_PermissionRecordExists_ReturnsTrue() { IIdentity identity; bool result = identity.HasContentPermission(... But HasContentPermission won't intellisense. I tried creating a stub class that inherits from IIdentity, but that didn't work either. Why? Or am I going about this the wrong way?

  • Are there cross-platform tools to write XSS attacks directly to the database?

    I've recently found this blog entry on a tool that writes XSS attacks directly to the database. It looks like a terribly good way to scan an application for weaknesses in my applications. I've tried to run it on Mono, since my development platform is Linux. Unfortunately it crashes with a System.ArgumentNullException deep inside Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary and I seem to be unable to find sufficient information about the software (it seems to be a single-shot project, with no homepage and no further development). Is anyone aware of a similar tool? Preferably it should be: cross-platform (Java, Python, .NET/Mono, even cross-platform C is ok) open source (I really like being able to audit my security tools) able to talk to a wide range of DB products (the big ones are most important: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ...)

    When using some existing forum software in a larger web-site, how easy is it to: 1)Make your site's login functionality log the user into the forum 2)Make your site's registration functionality create forum login data I suppose in a way it might be easier to ONLY use the forum's database for maintaining users, but that means trusting it with sensitive data. I'm planning an integration between an existing bespoke desktop app and a new bespoke web-site which should include forums. I don't know which forums will be used but I know the new web functionality won't be PHP-based. I figure that's not a big deal but I'm wondering if forums typically allow configuration of where they look for login data, to avoid duplicating this data into my DB and the forum DB.

I'm currently using XPath and Hamcrest (Java) to verify that the documents are constructed correctly. However, I also need to verify that the correct CSS properties are matched. For example, I would like a test like this: Given XHTML element Foo, verify that the property "text-transform:uppercase" is applied. Ideally, I would like a Java framework that provides this. I've tried using $selenium as a global object / browser but each test still opens up a new browser and closes it. How should this be done?

    I recently upgraded a C# project from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4. I have a method that extracts all MSTest test methods from a given list of MethodBase instances. Its body looks like this: return null == methods || methods.Count() == 0 ? null : from method in methods let testAttribute = Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(method, typeof(TestMethodAttribute)) where null != testAttribute select method; This worked in .NET 3.5, but since upgrading my projects to .NET 4, this code always returns an empty list, even when given a list of methods containing a method that is marked with [TestMethod]. Did something change with custom attributes in .NET 4? Debugging, I found that the results of GetCustomAttributesData() on the test method gives a list of two CustomAttributeData which are described in Visual Studio 2010's 'Locals' window as: Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.DeploymentItemAttribute("myDLL.dll") Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.TestMethodAttribute() -- this is what I'm looking for When I call GetType() on that second CustomAttributeData instance, however, I get {Name = "CustomAttributeData" FullName = "System.Reflection.CustomAttributeData"} System.Type {System.RuntimeType}. How can I get TestMethodAttribute out of the CustomAttributeData, so that I can extract test methods from a list of MethodBases?

    I need to write a unit test suite for a project I am developing in my spare time. Being a CL newbie I was overwhelmed by the amount of choices for a CL implementation, I spent quite some time to choose one. Now I am facing exactly the same thing with unit test frameworks. A quick glance at http://www.cliki.net/test%20framework shows 20 unit test frameworks! Choice is good but for a novice like me this can be a bit confusing and given the number of frameworks it would be painful to try them all. I would like to use a framework which: Is reasonably well maintained Easy to use but with some degree of flexibility Offers some sort of integration with Emacs (or it is possible to easily integrate it with Emacs) Integration with git post-commit hooks Integration with a continous integration system (such as buildbot) What are your experiences in this field?

  • Getting Bad file descriptor when running Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase

    When running a test using the Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase I'm getting a stack trace that isn't related to the test. The test is passing so this is probably happening on the test clean up? I'm using Python 2.7.2, Tornado 2.2. The test code is: class AllServersHandlerTest(AsyncHTTPTestCase): endpoint = AllServersHandler.endpoint # '/rest/test/' def test_server_status_with_advertiser(self): on_new_host(None, '127.0.0.1') response = self.fetch(self.endpoint, method='GET') result = json.loads(response.body, 'utf8').get('data') self.assertEquals(['127.0.0.1'], result) The test passes ok, but I get the following stack trace from the Tornado server. OSError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor INFO:root:200 POST /rest/serverStatuses (127.0.0.1) 0.00ms DEBUG:root:error closing fd 688 Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages\tornado-2.2-py2.7.egg\tornado\ioloop.py", line 173, in close os.close(fd) OSError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor Any ideas how to cleanly shutdown the test case?

In the engine I'm writing, I use Fest to control de UI and perform the tests. However, I,m blind when dealing with the part that is written in C. I wonder if I can use JNA or JNI to access the native part of the app. I believe that the fact that the application is already running is huge issue here.

I am using web services for that. the problem is that while working with my app sometimes i get some exceptions. like, Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown. While developing i can debug the code, but now my application is getting launched..i can get error log file from my client which contains this type of excetions. But how to catch exact error.???     I have a dozen servers in different locations all running the same web service application but each going against their own SQL Server DB. I am writing a desktop application that consumes the web services. I want to present the user with a drop down of all servers in the network that are running the same wweb service application. Do I have to add a ServiceReference for each of the servers running the web service app and thereby having as many proxies as there are servers? Or can a define a single instance of the services and dynamically build a list of endpoints to select from a drop down?

I do not find a compelling reason for switching to Mocking frameworks from hand written stubs.     I am trying to unit test my ViewModel and my SaveItem(save, CanSave) delegate command. I want to ensure that CanSave is called and returns the correct value given certain conditions. Basically, how can I invoke the delegate command from my unit test, actually it's more of an integration test. Obviously I could just test the return value of the CanSave method but I am trying to use BDD to the letter, ie. no code without a test first.

    An action method in my ASP.NET MVC2 application returns a JsonResult object and in my unit test I would like to check that the returned JSON object indeed contains the expected values. I tried this: 1. dynamic json = ((JsonResult)myActionResult).Data; 2. Assert.AreEqual(JsonMessagesHelper.ErrorLevel.ERROR.ToString(), json.ErrorLevel); But I get a RuntimeBinderException "'object' does not contain a definition for 'ErrorLevel'". However, when I place a breakpoint on line 2 and inspect the json dynamic variable (see picture below), it obviously does contain the ErrorLevel string and it has the expected value, so if the runtime binder wasn't playing funny the test would pass. What am I not getting? What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? How can I make the assertion pass?

    Trying to run the code coverage tool in Visual Studios for a set of unit tests. Adam from Think First, Code Later has had the same problem: I wanted to get the code coverage metrics for the project. Naturally, I fire up the solution in Visual Studio 2008, go to the Test menu, click Edit Test Run Configurations, and click Local Test Run. I then click Code Coverage to turn on code coverage for a given assembly and POOF the Local Test Run Configraution window just disappears. He recommends installing this hotfix to fix the problem, however a) when I run that hotfix I get the message “None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup.” and b) there is no Silverlight in our solution. Any other ideas for a fix?

My id is generated using an UUID. an i want to retrieve this id, wich is given as a parameter to a mocked object. It look like this: oneOf(message).setJMSCorrelationID(with(correlationId)); inSequence(sequence); Where correlationId is the string i'd like to keep for an other expecteation like this one: oneOf(session).createBrowser(with(inputChannel), with("JMSType ='pong' AND JMSCorrelationId = '"+correlationId+"'")); have you got an answer?

    Hi, I am puzzled at why my Python unittest runs perfectly fine without actually updating the database.
