  • Does Using ASP Or PHP Affect Your SEO Strategies?

We most often hear web developers as well as website design development companies asking in forums and developer boards about use of ASP, PHP & other scripting language and its possible negative effects on search engine optimization and effective SEO strategies for the website. There are many server side based scripting languages such as ASP, PHP, Cold Fusion, Python, and Pearl; among which PHP & ASP are more common.

  • How to specify importance of html elements?

    - by Julien Fouilhé
Is it possible to specify what elements of the page are important, or, more specifically, what elements of the page are not important? I'm using HTML5 new elements (nav, header, footer, section, article, aside...), but in the description of the website, there's sometimes my login form (in the header of my page though) in the Google description of my website pages... Is there a solution to resolve this problem? Thank you.

  • What snapshot software do you recommend? [closed]

    - by Charbel
Possible Duplicate: What screenshot tools are available? Hi, is there a snapshot software for Ubuntu? Something like SnagIt? The idea is many times I have to take the snapshot and edit the image to crop to my region of interest, SnagIt does that automatically and very nicely. Another feature is to take a snapshot of text (that can't be otherwise copied - like text in a photo) and then parse it into actual text document using an OCR technology. Thanks

  • What is an easy way to see how often recently added pages are viewed in google analytics?

    - by cboettig
Google Analytics makes it very easy to see the number of views of the most-viewed pages, but I cannot figure out how to see the number of views a particular page has received, or the number of views of recently added pages (e.g. blog posts). Is it possible to sort the pageviews list by date the page was added? Can this be done without having to externally create a list of recent pages and use the analytics API?

  • Random enemy placement on a 2d grid

    - by Robb
I want to place my items and enemies randomly (or as randomly as possible). At the moment I use XNA's Random class to generate a number between 800 for X and 600 for Y. It feels like enemies spawn more towards the top of the map than in the middle or bottom. I do not seed the generator, maybe that is something to consider. Are there other techniques described that can improve random enemy placement on a 2d grid?

  • A completely free and open programming language

    - by XGouchet
With Oracle vs Google trial, it seems that Java is not entirely Open and free (as free software) as I expected. Although there exists completely free/open JVM, it's hard to know what is a copyright infringement with Java, and what is not. So I'd like to know if there is a completely Open and free language with open and free IDE (Eclipse-like) out there, Object Oriented if possible, and able to make window-based applications for the main OSs (Linux, Mac, Windows).

  • How to install MySQL 5.6?

    - by Ross Smith II
I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 (amd64), and want to install a recent version of MySQL 5.6. If possible, I would like to install (not upgrade) it the "Debian Way' (i.e., using apt-get or dpkg). The only binaries I could find are here. Unfortunately, they are incomplete, as they only install files in /usr/share. If binaries aren't available, how could I install it from source, using the standard Debian method of installing from source. Thanks for any assistance.

  • Telecommuting with a foreign employer as a permanent job

    - by grabah
Does anyone have any experience in telecommuting (working at home) for a company based in some foreign country? By this I don't mean working on some contracted job, but more or less permanent job. Is this even possible, what are options for payment, and can you expect to be paid by usual rates for that country or significantly less? Is there any working hours control, or as long as you deliver on time it's all good.

  • What are the recommended minimum payment options on an e-commerce site?

    - by Mantorok
I've recently released a site that presently integrates with PayPal for taking payments, this doesn't require you to hold a PayPal account as you can submit credit cards through the PayPal checkout without having to sign-up etc. But what other options would you say were recommended or perhaps even required to ensure you capture as many potential customers as possible? EDIT: We accept payments worldwide by the way.

  • why there is no power operator in java / c ++?

    - by RanZilber
While there is such operator - ** in Python , i was wondering why java and c++ havent got one too. It is easy to make one for classes you define in C++ with operator overloading ( and i believe such thing is possible also in java) , but when talking about primitive types such as int, double and so on , you'll have to use library function like Math.power (and usaully have to cast both to double). So - why not define such operator for primitive types ?

  • Ubuntu 12.10 not working on UX32VD after update to beta 1 [closed]

    - by bquast
Possible Duplicate: There's an issue with an Alpha/Beta Release of Ubuntu, what should I do? In my previous question I described my problem with starting / returning from suspend using Ubuntu on the Asus UX32VD (Zenbook). This problem could be solved by using Ubuntu 12.10 (alpha), however since the upgrade to beta 1 the old problem of starting / returning from suspend has returned. I found that starting in recovery does work, but this of course does not solve the problem. Any thoughts?

  • A Tale of Identifiers

Identifiers aren't locators, and they aren't pointers or links either. They are a logical concept in a relational database, and, unlike the more traditional methods of accessing data, don't derive from the way that data gets stored. Identifiers uniquely identify members of the set, and it should be possible to validate and verify them. Celko somehow involves watches and taxi cabs to illustrate the point.

  • Which Folders To Include In backup?

    - by Jason
I'm quite new to Ubuntu and want to create a backup. I'm really not sure what files and folders to include so that if I restore my system it will be as it is now. I can't seem to find good details of this anywhere. Hopefully someone could help me with this. Is it possible to backup everything as it is now so in the event of a system restore I don't have to reinstall programs and settings? Thanks, Jason

  • Making a language switch main menu button in Drupal

    - by Let_Me_Be
I have a bilingual site in Drupal. The problem is that I hate the language switch block taking up so much space (sometimes the only thing in the sidebar is the language switch block). So what I would love to have is language switch menu item, that would point to the other language (other then the current one). Something like this: | Home | Projects | BlaBla | | Cesky | after swith: | Domu | Projekty | Blabla | | English | Is that possible without writing a whole new module?

  • .NET processing unit [closed]

    - by configurator
Do you think we'll ever see an IL (or other bytecode) processing unit? It sounds possible and would have a major benefit, because we wouldn't need the JITter. This isn't the same as compiling .NET directly to machine code, since the bytecode here is designed to be programmed and disassembled easily, unlike the bytecode used in x86 processors which is designed to work faster. What's stopping Intel (for example) from partnering with Microsoft and making such a .NET-optimised processor?

  • What methods of requirements elicitation are suitable when I do not have direct access to the user base?

    - by metadice
I am working on an application to create invoices. There are some features that are required based on the type of the application and are common to all invoice applications. However, we still need to determine what unique needs the user base might have. We do not have direct access to the users to obtain requirements or user stories. What techniques are most suitable for eliciting high-quality requirements from users when direct or frequent access is not possible?

  • non-volatile virtual memory for C++ containers

    - by arieberman
Is there a virtual memory management process that would allow a program to use the standard container structures and classes, but retain these structures and their data when the program is not running (or being used), for use by the program at a later time? This should be possible, but can it be done without changing the source code and its (container) declarations? Is there a standard way of doing this?

  • Will deleting files on my computer delete them them in Ubuntu one?

    - by Shelley Demers
OK. So I usually save my files online and not on my computer. I am hoping to be able to set up my Ubuntu One cloud to recognise changes made to documents and add new documents when synchronising. But not delete from the cloud, files I have deleted from my computer. Does anyone know if this is possible? I have searched around and can't figure out the answer to my question.I would appreciate any direction. Thank you so much!
