  • OpenSSH (Windows) does not forward X11

    - by Shulhi Sapli
I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 in VM and I wanted to do X11 forwarding to my host (Win 8), so far it works fine using PuTTY and XMing server for Windows. But I am curious why it doesn't work if I use OpenSSH binaries (it comes together with Git for windows). This is what I've done so far: ssh -X [email protected] (also tried with -Y) then gedit but received error of Cannot open display. echo $DISPLAY came out as empty. So, I try to export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0 but it still won't work. The DISPLAY environment that I set is exactly as when it runs with Putty. I also try changing the DISPLAY to 192.168.2.3:0.0 and other display number as well, but still it won't work. Of course I could just use Putty to make it work, but I was wondering why OpenSSH binaries does not work. I have enabled all settings required in both /etc/ssh/ssh_config and /etc/ssh/sshd_config. If I run with -v option, this is what I get F:\SkyDrive\Projects> ssh -X -v [email protected] OpenSSH_4.6p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007 debug1: Connecting to 192.168.2.3 [192.168.2.3] port 22. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /c/Users/Shulhi/.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /c/Users/Shulhi/.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /c/Users/Shulhi/.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_6.1p1 Debian-4 debug1: match: OpenSSH_6.1p1 Debian-4 pat OpenSSH* debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0 debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.6 debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT received debug1: kex: server->client aes128-cbc hmac-md5 none debug1: kex: client->server aes128-cbc hmac-md5 none debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_REQUEST(1024<1024<8192) sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_GROUP debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_INIT sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_REPLY debug1: Host '192.168.2.3' is known and matches the RSA host key. debug1: Found key in /c/Users/Shulhi/.ssh/known_hosts:2 debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /c/Users/Shulhi/.ssh/identity debug1: Trying private key: /c/Users/Shulhi/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Next authentication method: password [email protected]'s password: It seems that there is no request for X11 (I'm not sure if there is should be one too here). Any pointers why it doesn't work?

  • Why is my concurrency capacity so low for my web app on a LAMP EC2 instance?

    - by AMF
I come from a web developer background and have been humming along building my PHP app, using the CakePHP framework. The problem arose when I began the ab (Apache Bench) testing on the Amazon EC2 instance in which the app resides. I'm getting pretty horrendous average page load times, even though I'm running a c1.medium instance (2 cores, 2GB RAM), and I think I'm doing everything right. I would run: ab -n 200 -c 20 http://localhost/heavy-but-view-cached-page.php Here are the results: Concurrency Level: 20 Time taken for tests: 48.197 seconds Complete requests: 200 Failed requests: 0 Write errors: 0 Total transferred: 392111200 bytes HTML transferred: 392047600 bytes Requests per second: 4.15 [#/sec] (mean) Time per request: 4819.723 [ms] (mean) Time per request: 240.986 [ms] (mean, across all concurrent requests) Transfer rate: 7944.88 [Kbytes/sec] received While the ab test is running, I run VMStat, which shows that Swap stays at 0, CPU is constantly at 80-100% (although I'm not sure I can trust this on a VM), RAM utilization ramps up to about 1.6G (leaving 400M free). Load goes up to about 8 and site slows to a crawl. Here's what I think I'm doing right on the code side: In Chrome browser uncached pages typically load in 800-1000ms, and cached pages load in 300-500ms. Not stunning, but not terrible either. Thanks to view caching, there might be at most one DB query per page-load to write session data. So we can rule out a DB bottleneck. I have APC on. I am using Memcached to serve the view cache and other site caches. xhprof code profiler shows that cached pages take up 10MB-40MB in memory and 100ms - 1000ms in wall time. Pages that would be the worst offenders would look something like this in xhprof: Total Incl. Wall Time (microsec): 330,143 microsecs Total Incl. CPU (microsecs): 320,019 microsecs Total Incl. MemUse (bytes): 36,786,192 bytes Total Incl. PeakMemUse (bytes): 46,667,008 bytes Number of Function Calls: 5,195 My Apache config: KeepAlive On MaxKeepAliveRequests 100 KeepAliveTimeout 3 <IfModule mpm_prefork_module> StartServers 5 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 120 MaxRequestsPerChild 1000 </IfModule> Is there something wrong with the server? Some gotcha with the EC2? Or is it my code? Some obvious setting I should look into? Too many DNS lookups? What am I missing? I really want to get to 1,000 concurrency capacity, but at this rate, it ain't gonna happen.

  • Which twitter client can synchronize unread tweets?

    - by Tom Burger
Right now I'm forced to read all the tweets in a single client on a single device (TweetDeck on my Android phone). If I would switch to another device and/or client, I would need to search for the last unread tweet, which is sometimes complicated (too many tweets). So, the question: Is there a client who can keep the status (read/unread) on tweets across multiple devices? My target systems would be now Android and MS Windows, but also Linux might be handy.

  • Logging process' CPU utilisation

    - by frinky
Hello everyone, following problem deals with MS Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V: Does anybody have an idea how to log processes which cause CPU utilisation more than X percent? I want to uncover an unexpected CPU load peak problem which occurs once a day in a regular fashion. Since it's a terminal server, all network connections time out and bandwidth tends to zero.

  • How do you find all dependencies of a database table?

    - by Carlos
In MS SQL 2005, is it possible to find out which tables/columns are being used either as keys in another table, or as part of a stored procedure? The reason is I'm trying to clean up some old stored procs and tables, some of which can be removed, some of which can have columns pruned. But obviously I don't want to remove stuff which is being used.

  • Merge executables to avoid multiple UAC

    - by petebob796
Is there a program that can merge multiple windows executables into one that can run concurrently or in a sequence. I realize this sounds like how virus's often work but I have real needs. I am trying to avoid multiple UAC prompts in an installation process that runs up multiple MS hot fixes. Any other advice on ways to avoid the UAC prompts when multple exe's are to be installed is appreciated.

  • Converting MSDN license to full, commercial license

    - by alex
I had to throw a machine together in a bit of a hurry- to replace a machine that suddenly failed (no one had bothered to keep a "warm" backup) It has Windows Server 2008 and SQL 2008 The snag is, I installed them off our MSDN subscription media, due to me not having "licensed" software. I need to put this machine into production. We are in the process of buying the licenses from a MS reseller now. Is there a way to "convert" the MSDN license to production on both Windows Server and SQL?

  • Preventing users from deleting SQL data

    - by me2011
We just purchased a program that requires the users to have an account in the MS SQL server, with read/write access to the program's database. My concern is that since these users will now have write access to the database, they could directly connect to the SQL server outside of the program's client and then mess with the data directly in the tables. Is there anyway I can prevent access to the database while still allowing access via the client program?

  • Adding additional locations to Office 2013 save "Places"

    - by Paperjam
When saving a document in Office, you are given the option of saving locally or to your SkyDrive account. Presumably, it's possible to add additional locations to this menu (Dropbox, etc.). Is this possible in the Live Preview, and how does one accomplish this? Edit: when I asked this question, I was not logged into a Live account. I have since logged in and discovered services may be added to the logged-in account, however Dropbox (and non-MS services) are not offered. Account settings:

  • Program for getting the cursor's x,y coordinates?

    - by Click Upvote
Is there a program which lets you easily get the x,y coordinates for your cursor? Basically, I move my cursor to somewhere on my screen, it shows me the x,y coordinates and has an option to copy them to the clipboard or export them somehow. I can already do this if I take a screenshot and open it in MS Paint, then as I move the mouse cursor over the screenshot it shows the coordinates in the status bar, however I have to manually write them down, hence its not convenient.

  • Program that groups windows into tabs

    - by Arithmomaniac
I recall once stumbling on a program that could take multiple application windows and wrap them inside a large window with a tabbed interface. One use of this, for example, would be to wrap multiple instances of Excel into one window, and thus icon on the taskbar. I couldn't find mention of this program via Google, because of the multiple meanings of the word "window". Does anyone remember, or know of, such a program?

  • unable to connect site to different port

    - by JohnMerlino
I have a domain was registered at godaddy named http://mysite.com/. I logged into godaddy and I went to All Products Domains Domain Management. I clicked on the appropriate domain and it took me to the Domain Details page. I clicked Launch under DNS Manager and it took me to the Zone File Editor. I noticed that notify.mysite.com was pointing to an IP address pointing to a dead server, so I switched it to an operating server. Then I pinged the domain to see where it was pointing to and it was correctly pointing to the working server. So I copied the default configuration under sites-available: sudo cp default notify.mysite.com. And then I made some edits to it to have it point to a different document root to serve files at a different port: Listen 1740 Listen 64.135.xx.xxx:1740 #I also tried this as well: NameVirtualHost 64.135.xx.xxx:1740 <VirtualHost 64.135.xx.xxx:1740> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName notify.mysite.com DocumentRoot /var/www/test/public <Directory /var/www/test/public> Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined </VirtualHost> Then I enabled the virtual host. Then I went to the document root and added an index.html file with some text in it. Then I restarted apache. The restart gave no errors. Then I type the correct domain in URL: http://notify.mysite.com:1740/ and I get: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to notify.mysite.com:1740 Somehow it took out all my other sites. Now even the ones that were responding on port 80 are no longe responding, even though I did not touch the virtual hosts for them. I get this message now: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to mysite.com However, ping responds: ping mysite.com PING mysite.com (64.135.12.134): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 64.135.12.134: icmp_seq=0 ttl=49 time=20.839 ms 64 bytes from 64.135.12.134: icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=20.489 ms The result of telnet: $ telnet guarddoggps.com 80 Trying 64.135.12.134... telnet: connect to address 64.135.12.134: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host

  • Find out what program is using mirror drivers

    - by Frantumn
I can't get access to Aero transparency themes in Windows 7. The troubleshooter says that I need to close programs that are using mirror drivers in order for that to work. I've looked through my task manager list of running applications and I can't see any that jump out as the culprit. Is there a program that will tell me what the app causing this issue is? MS Troubleshooter doesn't give me the details.

  • Powerpoint paste option from other applications

    - by huggie
In MS Word, there is an option to choose the pasting behavior between the same application and different applications. It's under the Office button-word options-advanced. However I don't see the same option for Powerpoint. Is there one available? I hate it when they don't make it consistent between apps.

  • Copy and paste RESULTS of a file search

    - by ray023
In order for me to get the results of a file search in a readable format, I use the following command line in a command prompt: dir *.* /s > myResultList.txt I then open that list in Excel, use fixed width format to get rid of all the stuff I don't want and then I have my list. Seems like a lot to do for something so simple. Does anyone out there have any recommendations for something that would work better than this?
