  • overview/history of resident memory usage

    - by kapet
I have a fairly complicated program (Python with SWIG'ed C++ code, long running server) that shows a constantly growing resident memory usage. I've been digging with the usual tools for the leak (valgrind, Pythons gc module, etc.) but to no avail so far. I'm a bit afraid that the actual problem is memory fragmentation within Python and/or libc managed memory. Anyway, my question is more specific right now: Is there a tool to visualize resident memory usage and ideally show how it develops over time? I think the raw data is in /proc/$PID/smaps but I was hoping there's some tool that shows me a nice graph of the amounts used by mmap'ed files vs. anonymous mmap'ed memory vs. heap over time so that it's easier to see (literally) what's changing. I couldn't find anything though. Does anybody know of a ready to use tool that graphs memory usage over space and time in an intuitive way?

  • How do I write Push and Pop in Scheme?

    - by kunjaan
Right now I have (define (push x a-list) (set! a-list (cons a-list x))) (define (pop a-list) (let ((result (first a-list))) (set! a-list (rest a-list)) result)) But I get this result: Welcome to DrScheme, version 4.2 [3m]. Language: Module; memory limit: 256 megabytes. > (define my-list (list 1 2 3)) > (push 4 my-list) > my-list (1 2 3) > (pop my-list) 1 > my-list (1 2 3) What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way to write push so that the element is added at the end and pop so that the element gets deleted from the first?

  • Angular function constructor in Controller

    - by BigHeadCreations
    In normal JS I can do this: function Droppable() { this.relevant = true; this.uuid = generateUUID(); }; var generateUUID = function() { return '12345'; } console.log(new Droppable); // returns Droppable {relevant: true, uuid: "12345"} But in Angular I have this: angular.module('myApp').controller('MyCtrl', ['$scope', function($scope) { function Droppable() { this.relevant = true; this.uuid = generateUUID(); } var generateUUID = function() { return '12345'; } // initalize droppable areas $scope.region1 = [new Droppable]; $scope.region2 = [new Droppable]; $scope.region3 = [new Droppable]; }]); I am trying to make 3 droppable areas all with a UUID. But when I do this I get 'undefined is not a function' referring to the line this.uuid = generateUUID(); in function Droppable() {...} Why is that?

  • How can I use the Scala program schema2src?

    - by pr1001
This perhaps more a Server Fault question... I installed schema2src via sbaz and now I would like to convert a DTD (Apple's plist schema) to Scala source. $ schema2src usage: schema2src [flags] --module mname arg* or schema2src dtd arg* or (experimental) schema2src xsd arg* (this doesn't work at all yet) where supported [flags] may be: --verbose prints some debugging information However, if I try give any argument, it appears it can't find Scala: $ schema2src --verbose Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: scala/runtime/BoxesUtility at schema2src.Main$.processArgs(Main.scala:56) at schema2src.Main$.main(Main.scala:25) at schema2src.Main.main(Main.scala) Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: scala.runtime.BoxesUtility at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:315) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:330) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:250) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:398) ... 3 more I have scala in my PATH... Any suggestions? Assuming that problem can be fixed, is this the correct syntax? $ schema2src PropertyList-1.0.dtd

  • how to import Java class with Python using Eclipse?

    - by JChao
Hi, I'm trying to write Jython where the Python file imports classes from Java I'm using Eclipse with PyDev. My Python code looks like: from eclipsejavatest import eclipseJavaTest from eclipsejavatest import JavaClass class eclipsePyPrint(eclipseJavaTest): def eclipsepyMain(self): print "python main method" eclipseJavaTest.printerCount(4) print eclipseJavaTest.gotoPython() eclipseJavaTest.printerSentence() samplepyClass = JavaClass("Jython plain") samplepyClass.setName("jython fancy") print samplepyClass.getName() but I'm getting the error ImportError: No module named eclipsejavatest The Python project references the Java project. I've tried exporting the Java project and adding the .jar to the Jython Class Path for the Python project. I'm not sure what to do to get this to work.

  • Drupal : how to emulate the public/private attribute available in WordPress

    - by Parneix
Hi, Basically, I'm looking for an easy way (module) to add a private/public option to any kind of content I may published in Drupal (blog entry, image, etc.). So that when I'm logged in, I can see everything. But when an anonymous user visit the site, he will only see the public stuff. It's way to manage a kind of front window/back-store architecture. I can use the same Drupal installation to all my needs and choose to filter the stuff I may want to make publicly available. * Important : 1) Private items must not be accessible even if anonymous users guess its URL; 2) Private item must not show up if anonymous user perform a search; 3) Private content must not be indexed by search engines; 4) Private items should show up if I perform a search while being logged in. Any idea? Thanks a lot, P.

  • How would I go about writing a Linux TTY sniffer?

    - by alienate
For educational purposes (not that anyone should care the motivations behind such an exercise) I'd like to write a program that can read/write to/from alternate tty/pty's. I've read papers (from the 1990's) but can't employ the implementation they use, on modern UNIXes. I was hoping that someone had researched into this in the past, or at least, read documentation pertaining to it, that they could provide. I also wonder if (considering the fact that Linux doesn't have STREAMs) if this exercise must be done via a loadable kernel module? I have many questions and probably a misunderstanding of some of the fundamental ideologies that allow such objectives to be put in place, could someone help? :)

  • Custom control packaging

    - by CSharpened
Quick question: You are building a setup for your application. The application contains a custom control developed by you, which will be shared across multiple applications. How should you package the custom control? Package the control in a Merge Module (.msm) and add the .msm file to a Windows Installer project. Package the control into a cabinet project (.cab) and add the .cab file to a Windows Installer project. Create a separate directory for the control and then package it in a Windows Installer project along with the rest of the project files. Package the control as a Web setup project and create a link to that project from the Windows Installer project. Any ideas?

  • Program crash for array copy with ifort

    - by Stefano Borini
This program crashes with Illegal instruction: 4 on MacOSX Lion and ifort (IFORT) 12.1.0 20111011 program foo real, pointer :: a(:,:), b(:,:) allocate(a(5400, 5400)) allocate(b(5400, 3600)) a=1.0 b(:, 1:3600) = a(:, 1:3600) print *, a print *, b deallocate(a) deallocate(b) end program The same program works with gfortran. I don't see any problem. Any ideas ? Unrolling the copy and performing the explicit loop over the columns works in both compilers. Note that with allocatable instead of pointer I have no problems. The behavior is the same if the statement is either inside a module or not. I confirm the same behavior on Linux using ifort (IFORT) 12.1.3 20120130.

  • RewriteRule and php download counter

    - by rcourtna
    (1) I have a site that serves up MP3 files: http://domain/files/1234567890.mp3 (2) I have a php script that tracks file download counts: http://domain/modules/download_counter.php?file=/files/1234567890.mp3 After download_counter.php records the download, it redirects to the original file: Header("Location: $FQDN_url"); (3) I'd like all my public links to be presented as the direct file urls from (1). I'm trying to use Apache to redirect the requests to download_counter.php: RewriteRule ^files/(.+\.mp3)$ /modules/download_counter.php?file=/files/$1 [L] I'm currently stuck on (3), as it results in a redirect loop, since download_counter.php simply redirects the request back to the original file (rather than streaming the file contents). I'm also motivated to use download_counter.php as is (without modifying it's redirect behaviour). This is because the script is part of a larger CMS module, and I'd like to avoid complicating my upgrade path. Perhaps there is no solution to my problem (other than modifying the download_counter script). WDYT?

  • more efficient way to pickle a string

    - by gatoatigrado
The pickle module seems to use string escape characters when pickling; this becomes inefficient e.g. on numpy arrays. Consider the following z = numpy.zeros(1000, numpy.uint8) len(z.dumps()) len(cPickle.dumps(z.dumps())) The lengths are 1133 characters and 4249 characters respectively. z.dumps() reveals something like "\x00\x00" (actual zeros in string), but pickle seems to be using the string's repr() function, yielding "'\x00\x00'" (zeros being ascii zeros). i.e. ("0" in z.dumps() == False) and ("0" in cPickle.dumps(z.dumps()) == True)

  • Python: How to run unittest.main() for all source files in a subdirectory?

    - by Pete
I am developing a Python module with several source files, each with its own test class derived from unittest right in the source. Consider the directory structure: dirFoo\ test.py dirBar\ __init__.py Foo.py Bar.py To test either Foo.py or Bar.py, I would add this at the end of the Foo.py and Bar.py source files: if __name__ == "__main__": unittest.main() And run Python on either source, i.e. $ python Foo.py ........... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ran 11 tests in 2.314s OK Ideally, I would have "test.py" automagically search dirBar for any unittest derived classes and make one call to "unittest.main()". What's the best way to do this in practice? I tried using Python to call execfile for every *.py file in dirBar, which runs once for the first .py file found & exits the calling test.py, plus then I have to duplicate my code by adding unittest.main() in every source file--which violates DRY principles.

  • Automatic open Colorbox modal window

    - by user1631168
I'm using the Colorbox module in Drupal 7. I'm opening an external website. I can make it work with a link. Click here, then click the "colorbox popup" link at the bottom, middle column. The client would like this to open automatically when the page opens. I've created a block and added the following code (from the colorbox site). <script type="text/javascript"> // Display a welcome message on first visit, and set a cookie that expires in 30 days: if (document.cookie.indexOf('visited=true') === -1) { var expires = new Date(); expires.setDate(expires.getDate()+30); document.cookie = "visited=true; expires="+expires.toUTCString(); jQuery.colorbox({html:"http://join.raretearepublic.com/popup/", width:887, height:638}); } </script> But it does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • code folding in Visual Studio for F#

    - by Yin Zhu
I find that I tend to write long source files in F#. Some open source projects in F# also have long source files, e.g. FPersec and F# for excel. So it would be very helpful if code folding (even very limited support) is available in VS for F#. E.g. in a module, we can fold out functions that are stable, only leave functions that are subject to change unfold. Is this feature easy to be supported, e.g. by a third party vendor?

  • Questions about use lib for perl

    - by Tyug
I use use lib "./DIR" to grab a library from a folder elsewhere. However, it doesn't seem to work on my server, but it works fine on my local desktop. Any particular reasons? And one more question, does use lib get propagated within several modules? Two situations: Say I make a base class that requires a few libraries, but I know that it needs to be extended and the extended class will need to use another library. Can I put the use lib command in the base class? or will I need to put it in every extending class? Finally, can I just have a use package where package contains a bunch of use lib, will it propagate the use lib statements over to my current module? <-- I don't think so, but asking anyways Thanks in advance! • Python scope problems only when _assigning_ to a variable

    - by wallacoloo
So I'm having a very strange error right now. I found where it happens, and here's the simplest code that can reproduce it. def parse_ops(str_in): c_type = "operator" def c_dat_check_type(t): print c_type #c_type = t c_dat_check_type("number") >>> parse_ops("12+a*2.5") If you run it as-is, it prints "operator". But if you uncomment that line, it gives an error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#212>", line 1, in <module> parse_ops("12+a*2.5") File "<pyshell#211>", line 7, in parse_ops c_dat_check_type("number") File "<pyshell#211>", line 4, in c_dat_check_type print c_type UnboundLocalError: local variable 'c_type' referenced before assignment Notice the error occurs on the line that worked just fine before. Any ideas what causes this and how I can fix this? I'm using Python 2.6.1.

  • Scrapy + Eclipse PyDev : how to setup the debugger?

    - by AsTeR
I've successfully setup Eclipse with my Scrapy project. I did it by setting a new Run/Debug configuration : Whose main module links to Scrapy /usr/local/bin/scrapy for me (I've found suggestion to use cmdline.py but that failed on my computer (OSX Lion & scrapy installed through easy_install) Defining the arguments to send "crawl ny" in my case as I would if I used the Scrapy command line Setting the correct working directory (${workspace_loc:My Project/src} in my case) Eclipse can successfully launch my project, but I've no debbuger. I'm missing my breakpoints and variable inspection, does anyone know how to setup the debbugger with this environment ?

  • Summary count for Python logging

    - by Craig McQueen
At the end of my Python program, I'd like to be able to get a summary of the number of items logged through the standard logging module. I'd specifically like to be able to get a count for each specified name (and possibly its children). E.g. if I have: input_logger = getLogger('input') input_logger.debug("got input1") input_logger.debug("got input2") input_logger.debug("got input3") network_input_logger = getLogger('input.network') network_input_logger.debug("got network input1") network_input_logger.debug("got network input2") getLogger('output') output_logger.debug("sent output1") Then at the end I'd like to get a summary such as: input: 5 input.network: 2 output: 1 Perhaps by calling a getcount() method for a logger or a handler. What would be a good way to achieve this? I imagine it would involve a sub-class of one of the logging classes, but I'm not sure which one would be best.

  • Setting Global Variables in VBA

    - by dennis96411
I'm currently making an "OS" in PowerPoint and I need to know how to set global variables for the settings. I made a module called "Settings" containing: Public Sub Settings() Option Explicit Public UserName, UserIcon, Background, BrowserHomePage As String Public SetupComplete As Boolean SetupComplete = False UserName = "Administrator" UserIcon = Nothing Background = Nothing BrowserHomePage = Nothing 'Set the variables UserName.Text = UserName End Sub Now on the "log in" screen, I have a text box named "UserName". I then made a button just to test out the variables. The button does this: Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() UserName.Value = UserName End Sub The text box has no value when I click the button. I'm super new at VBA, and would like to know how to do this. Also, if anyone knows how to automatically execute codes when starting the PowerPoint, that would be fantastic.

  • Python: why does str() on some text from a UTF-8 file give a UnicodeDecodeError?

    - by AP257
I'm processing a UTF-8 file in Python, and have used simplejson to load it into a dictionary. However, I'm getting a UnicodeDecodeError when I try to turn one of the dictionary values into a string: f = open('my_json.json', 'r') master_dictionary = json.load(f) #some json wrangling, then it fails on this line... mysql_string += " ('" + str(v_dict['code']) Traceback (most recent call last): File "my_file.py", line 25, in <module> str(v_dict['code']) + "'), " UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xf4' in position 35: ordinal not in range(128) Why is Python even using ASCII? I thought it used UTF-8 by default, and this is a UTF-8 file. What is the problem?
