• How does jQuery stores data with .data()?

  I am a little confused how jQuery stores data with .data() functions. Is this something called expando? Or is this using HTML5 Web Storage although I think this is very unlikely? The documentation says: The .data() method allows us to attach data of any type to DOM elements in a way that is safe from circular references and therefore from memory leaks. As I read about expando, it seems to have a rick of memory leak. Unfortunately my skills are not enough to read and understand jQuery code itself, but I want to know how jQuery stores such data by using data(). http://api.jquery.com/data/

• Integrating virtual keyboard on a HP TouchSmart with an Adobe AIR app

  Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to integrate the ToushSmart's virtual keyboard with an Adobe AIR application? In most programs (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), when a user touches a text field a little keyboard icon automatically pops up which, when pressed, will bring up the virtual keyboard. However, this doesn't happen when clicking on text input fields in Adobe AIR applications. Has anyone had any experience working with AIR/Flash and touchscreens? Is there any API that can tell Windows (or the HP virtual keyboard specifically) that the user has clicked in a text field and that the virtual keyboard should be shown? The text fields are the standard kind (fl.controls.TextInput). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

• How to validate HTTP request headers before receiving request body using WCF

  I'm implementing a REST service using WCF which will be used to upload very large files. The HTTP headers in this request will communicate information which will be validated prior to allowing the upload to proceed (things like permissions, available disk space, etc). It's possible this validation will fail resulting in an error response. I'd like to do this validation prior to the client sending the body of the request, so it has a chance to detect failure before uploading potentially gigabytes of data. RESTful web services use the HTTP 1.1 Expect: 100-continue in the request to implement this. For example Amazon S3's REST API can validate your key and ACLs in response to an object PUT operation, returning 100 Continue if all is well, indicating you may proceed to send your data. I've rummaged around the WCF documentation and I just can't see a way to accomplish this without doing some pretty low-level hooking into the HTTP request processing pipeline. How would you suggest I solve this problem?

  This may be a terribly uninformed question, brace yourself. A company I'm working with has given an 'API' that I can use to access orders, however, there are only two real commands, getorders and getorderdetails. These commands are put in the format of http://www.server.com/path/to/the/orderapi/getorders/UniqueKey/ If I go to that web address, I'm prompted for a username and password, and once authenticating, get presented with a page of JSON formatted order details, contained in the body of the html page. I would like a service to check this information and create orders in our crm based on it, is there an obvious way to access it without the browser/client interaction?

  I have a ClassA containing an ArrayList of another ClassB I can save a new instance of ClassA with ClassB instances also saved using JDO. However, When I retrieve the instance of Class A, I try to do like the below: ClassA instance = PMF.get().getPersistenceManager().GetObjectByID( someid ); instance.GetClassBArrayList().add( new ClassB(...) ); I get an Exception like the below: Uncaught exception from servlet com.google.appengine.api.datastore.DatastoreNeedIndexException: no matching index found.. So I was wondering, Is it possible to add a new item to the previously saved collection? Or was it something I missed out. Best Regards

  I needed to filter a list of results using the combination of two properties. A plain SQL statement would look like this: SELECT TOP 10 * FROM Person WHERE FirstName + ' ' + LastName LIKE '%' + @Term + '%' The ICriteria in NHibernate that I ended up using was: ICriteria criteria = Session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Person)); criteria.Add(Expression.Sql( "FirstName + ' ' + LastName LIKE ?", "%" + term + "%", NHibernateUtil.String)); criteria.SetMaxResults(10); It works perfectly, but I'm not sure if it is the ideal solution since I'm still learning about NHibernate's Criteria API. What are the recommended alternatives? Is there something besides Expression.Sql that would perform the same operation? I tried Expression.Like but couldn't figure out how to combine the first and last names. Should I map a FullName property to the formula "FirstName + ' ' + LastName" in the mapping class? Should I create a read only FullName property on the domain object then map it to a column?

I know the industry's standard language is C++, for 3D graphics the main choice is between Direct 3D and OpenGL, but what is the most widely used GUI framework? • Windows 7 interfering with smart cards

  I have an application that uses the PC/SC API to communicate with smart cards. On Windows 7, I get strange results: the data returned from the cards is inconsistent and invalid with certain commands. If I disable the Smart Card Plug and Play service in group policy then everything works fine. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is there any way to get the smart card plug and play service to play nice? It would be nice to not have to disable it...

• BigDecimal precision not persisted with javax.persistence annotations

  I am using the javax.persistence API and Hibernate to create annotations and persist entities and their attributes in an Oracle 11g Express database. I have the following attribute in an entity: @Column(precision = 12, scale = 9) private BigDecimal weightedScore; The goal is to persist a decimal value with a maximum of 12 digits and a maximum of 9 of those digits to the right of the decimal place. After calculating the weightedScore, the result is 0.1234, but once I commit the entity with the Oracle database, the value displays as 0.12. I can see this by either by using an EntityManager object to query the entry or by viewing it directly in the Oracle Application Express (Apex) interface in a web browser. How should I annotate my BigDecimal attribute so that the precision is persisted correctly? Note: We use an in-memory HSQL database to run our unit tests, and it does not experience the issue with the lack of precision, with or without the @Column annotation.

  I'm using the office 2007 interop assemblies to create some excel spreadsheets. There are plenty of questions on here about getting started and MSDN contains heaps of articles, like this one. The API is funky, and sometimes a bit confusing. When I set a value of a cell, is there a way to set it's format? I'd like to mark particular fields as Date's so my customer can run excel macros on them. Also, numbers would be useful. Thanks!

I tried using the JavaScript API but I've found this is not compatible with FBML. • How to set timeout with python-mechanize?

  I'm using python-mechanize to scrape some web sites, which sometime simply don't respond to requests and these requests stay open too long, so I need to limit timeout for these requests. While using urlopen method, the timeout can be set using timeout parameter, but I have not found easy way for doing it with high level API such as submit or click methods. Ideally the timeout would be set just once for whole browser class and all calls would honor that. It would be probably possible to customize this by passing custom request_class to every click and submit call, but this would just pollute the code, so I'm looking for nicer solution for setting timeout for mechanize's browser class (and no, I don't want to change default socket timeout using socket.setdefaulttimeout).

  This might sound like a really stupid question, but is there anyway to run an Adobe AIR application in a headless server side mode on a non-UI server (i.e. Linux)? I'm trying to build server side bots to interact with an API (grapevinetalk.com) and I want to use existing code to do that without having to re-write all the data munging etc for a new application. The application I'm trying to port is essentially a jQuery based AIR desktop app that I want to reuse for server side interactions. • Get user-inputed file name from JFileChooser Save dialog box

  This answer to this question may seem obvious, but I'm actually struggling with it quite a bit. I've searched through JFileChooser methods in the API, and I've looked at some of the questions already asked and answered here on stackoverflow. My question is this. In my program, I am to allow the user to type in a file name which I will then use to create a brand new file that I will write on. How do you get the text the user has entered in the textfield next to the label "Save As:" on the Save dialog box provided by JFileChooser? Is there a JFileChooser method that would allow me to get that user-inputed text? Or would I have to go through another class, or do something else to get that text? Thank you so much, to anyone who answers. It's very late for me now, and this program is due in a few hours (meaning I'll be having another sleepless night). Desperate may be too strong a word, but I'm something close enough.

• google maps everytime fails to place some markers on the map

  hello! im trying to place like 130/140 markers on a custom google map. i inject the map with jquery and gmaps (http://gmap.nurtext.de/) everytime, at random (not related to specific markers) a lots of markers are not shown. firebug report this error: a is null and this error comes from this file: http://maps.gstatic.com/intl/it_ALL/mapfiles/285c/maps2.api/main.js if i refresh the page...some other markers are "hidden" and other ones are shown. anyone had this problem/can help me or suggest another safe way to show all markers? thanks a lot! • Designing Web Service Using Ruby on Rails - Mapping ActiveRecord Models

  I've put together a RoR application and would now like to publish a RESTful web service for interacting with my application. I'm not sure where to go exactly, I don't want to simply expose my ActiveRecord models since there is some data on each model that isn't needed or shouldn't be exposed via an API like this. I also don't want to create a SOAP solution. My application is built using Rails 2.3.5 and I hope to move to Rails 3.0 soon after its released. I'm basically looking for a way to map my ActiveRecord models to "models" that would be exposed via the web service. Is ActiveResource the correct thing to use? What about ActionWebService?

  I've been a bad kid and used the following syntax in my partial templates to set default values for local variables if a value wasn't explicitly defined in the :locals hash when rendering the partial -- <% foo = default_value unless (defined? foo) %> This seemed to work fine until recently, when (for no reason I could discern) non-passed variables started behaving as if they had been defined to nil (rather than undefined). As has been pointed by various helpful people on SO, http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionView/Base.html says not to use defined? foo and instead to use local_assigns.has_key? :foo I'm trying to amend my ways, but that means changing a lot of templates. Can/should I just charge ahead and make this change in all the templates? Is there any trickiness I need to watch for? How diligently do I need to test each one?

Browsing the Book category in iTunes it seems to there is a standard format for building these apps, however, googling for how to build an iphone book app produces no useful results. This type of application is also not addressed in any of the iphone development books I've seen. Is there a standard method fot building these book applications? Or is it simply copying the text is some format (pdf, txt, html?) and then writing a document handling api? It seems there already must exist apis for doing this.   I am testing a client application that authenticates using RSA SecurID hardware tokens. The authentication is failing and I am not finding any useful information in the log files. I am using Authentication Manager 8.0 and the Java SDK. I have a traffic capture which I would like to analyze with Wireshark to and from port 5500 on the authentication agent. • Android interacting with HTML5 tutorial?

  I've been looking at using a WebView to display an HTML5 webpage, where the novel features of the mobile device (GPS, compass, accelerometer, camera, etc) can be fed back into the web page. I was wondering if there were any good tutorials showing these functions interacting with the webview. So far I've found ways for the WebView to send javascript commands to the web page, but those interactions haven't been triggered from outside the web view (such as upon receiving an intent from the GPS or accelerometer). Note: The HTML5 Geolocation API is not what I'm interested in. • Trouble making OAuth signed requests

  Hello, I am able to successfully make non-authenticated and protected calls to the Netflix API. I am having a little trouble making signed requests to the catalog, however. Using the OAuth Test page, it is clear to me that my Base String is correct. My request URL is also correct, except for the oauth_signature. The oauth_signature is the only thing that differs. If I understand correctly, the only difference between a protected call and a signed call is that there are no tokens involved, and that I am appending on call parameters (such as term). So, I am using the exact same code that I use for my protected calls that I am for my signed calls, except my signature key ONLY contains my shared secret (with an ampersand sign on the end of it).
