  • Can I write for .Net 4 using VS2008?

    - by chillitom
Can I write code against .Net 4 and its libraries using VS2008? If so how should I configure it? I realise that VS2008 will probably struggle with language changes such as the dynamic keyword but can I install the version 4 and target it anyway? My only real interest is in being able to use some of the new libraries, in particular I'm interested in the TPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_Extensions)

  • Looking for a free xsd scheme editor

    - by Klaim
I'm looking for a free alternative to all the XML/XSD editors around here (that are relatively expensive--at least for me). I totally fail to find one. I need it to allow me to edit xsd files to help in writting an xml-based language specification. I need it to be visual to help with the design, making it clear. Other features are less interesting for me. Any suggestion?

  • Localizing MVVM based WPF applications

    - by bitbonk
What would be a good aproach to localize a MVVM based WPF allication that can change its language at runtime? Of course I could create a string property in the ViewModel for each and every string that is displayed somewhere in the View but that seems rather tedious to me. Is there a common approach/best practice for this?

  • Is Programming Right for me?

    - by L1th1um
I'm interested in programming, but it seems to me that I can't get into it. Every time I've tried to learn a language and stuff by looking through tutorials or books I'd never get past the part where I use the syntax to make something. And by interest, I mean that I read stack overflow a lot, coding horror, and stuff but the actual coding part is hard for me to get into. Did anybody start this way? How did you get past this block?

  • What is the best way to format a date in JSON for Mongo DB storage

    - by Poul
I have a date with a time. I'm using ruby, but the language shouldn't matter. d = "2010-04-01 13:00:00" What is the best way to format this date for Mongo DB? By 'best' I mean, is there a certain format I could use where Mongo would recognize it as a date and might give me more-advanced filtering optons? ie: If formatted correctly, could I ask Mongo to return all records whose month is '04'? Thanks!

  • What is the best service/tool to put short audio clips on a website so users can click and listen im

    - by Edward Tanguay
I'm making a foreign language flashcard website in which I want to have 100s of short 3-10 second audio files available for users to click and listen. So I am looking for a tool/service such as YouTube or Screenr.com but for audio which e.g.: allows me to easily upload multiple kinds of audio files: mp3, wav, etc. easy to manage them online (delete, replace) has a simple, small player (e.g. flash) that integrates nicely into any site

  • Automatic bookkeeping for exception retries

    - by pilcrow
Do any languages that support retry constructs in exception handling track and expose the number of times their catch/rescue (and/or try/begin) blocks have been executed in a particular run? I find myself counting (and limiting) the number of times a code block is re-executed after an exception often enough that this would be a handy language built-in.

  • Image processing with barehands-ruby

    - by Erik Escobedo
I want to know how to open and manipulate a simple image file in Ruby language. I don't need to do any advanced stuff, just things like open(), get_pixel() and put_pixel() and I don't wanna use any gem for doing that, but just to know the barehands-ruby way.

  • selinux permissive and type targeted

    - by krisdigitx
i am running centos 6.2 recently i noticed that apache was running with selinux enabled # This file controls the state of SELinux on the system. # SELINUX= can take one of these three values: # enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced. # permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing. # disabled - No SELinux policy is loaded. SELINUX=Permissive # SELINUXTYPE= can take one of these two values: # targeted - Targeted processes are protected, # mls - Multi Level Security protection. SELINUXTYPE=targeted i noticed that these errors were coming on dmesg type=1400 audit(1354453732.704:9056368): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=39006 comm="httpd" dest=11211 scontext=unconfined_u:system_r:httpd_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:memcache_port_t:s0 tclass=tcp_socket type=1400 audit(1354453735.777:9056369): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=39046 comm="httpd" dest=6379 scontext=unconfined_u:system_r:httpd_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:port_t:s0 tclass=tcp_socket i then enabled /usr/sbin/setsebool httpd_can_network_connect=1 and this stopped the errors and also the webpages started to work. My question is if selinux is in permissive mode will selinuxtype=targeted enforce any polices? if not how did it solve the problem with apache as selinux was already in permissive mode?

  • Visual Studio support for coding in MSIL?

    - by jdk
For the longest time I've been curious to code in Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) just as an academic endeavour and to gain a better understanding of what's "happening under the hood". Is there any sort of Visual Studio support for this in the form of: project templates, IntelliSense integration, and those kind of RAD features?

  • Understanding List formatting in MSWord

    - by John
I've never understood how formatting works in MSWord for lists... it mostly just works but sometimes becomes incredibly stubborn about enforcing styles you don't want, especially when copy-pasting into a list and working with multiple, multi-layer lists. What are some good ways to understand how it works, so one can work with Word, instead of fighting against it? Here's an example... I want a list like: 1)first test CHECK: a)something b)another thing 2)another test CHECK: a)it works b)it doesn't crash I find Word really doesn't like this... I try creating one mini-list and copy pasting but typically the numbering on the sub-lists doesn't re-start automatically, etc. I'm using Word 2007 but I remember it being this way in earlier versions too.

  • Author Tools for Classroom Material?

    - by user1413
I'm interested in putting a whole bunch of classroom material online. This material ranges from accounting classes to yoga. I would like to find a simple to use authoring tool that the people who teach the classes can use to put the material online. In other words, I do not want a tool that requires a developer. A person who knows the subject matter and is willing to read the manual should be able to put their material online. At minimum, this tool should allow for text and multi-media to be chained together in a logical form and it should allow quizzes to be created and graded. Even better would be for the tool to have some "smarts" so that subject areas which the student does not understand can be drilled. Even better would be for the tool to have ecommerce built in so that the instructors can charge for the classes. Are there any such tools?

Is there a tutorial out there I could use.

  • Colour instead of color?

    - by Jookia
I'm working on a game engine in C++ and I have methods like setColour and things that use british grammar. While I was thinking how C++ compilers mostly use the english language (correct me if I'm wrong) and how most APIs use american grammar, should I go with the flow and continue the unofficial standard in the grammar programmer high council or be a rebel? I'm not sure which.

  • How to generate Function caller graphs for JavaScript and ActionScript?

    - by Jeremy Rudd
I like the way Doxygen combines with Graphviz dot to generate function caller graphs. I'd like this functionality for other languages as well, apart from the basics that Doxygen supports (C++, C, Java, Objective-C, Python, VHDL, PHP, C#). I'm currently looking for tools that support JavaScript, ActionScript 2 and ActionScript 3/Flex. I'm also interested in tools that have a wider language support than Doxygen. Is there any way to get function caller graphs for any other languages?
