  I've connected an Ubuntu 9.10 server to my Windows domain with Likewise Open. I am able to log into the server with my domain account (as DOMAIN\user), but my administrative rights don't carry over. How can I grant admin rights to domain user accounts?

• Win 7 client print spooler service keeps stopping

  I have a Windows 7 (32 bit) client where it's print spooler keeps stoppong a few seconds after I restart it. The event log doesn't provide any clear error, "The print spooler service stopped unexpectedly...it did this x times". I can seem to find any information on this. T tried un-installing whatever print driver was there...same thing. Any other ideas?

• Centralized logging for JBoss / log4j? [closed]

  Does anyone have advice or a pointer to articles on how to centralize logs in JBoss? JBoss will log to syslog, which makes it easy, but doing so breaks multi line debug messages (and Jboss loves dropping exception stack traces in the logs). I can rsync the logs, but that isn't realtime. Log4j has appenders for TCP and multicast sockets, so it seems like something probably exists for streaming logs, but I haven't found a receiver for the data. Thanks

• VPN: Does all traffic get routed through the VPN when I am logged in?

  If I log into a slow VPN with only a 15k/s connection, when I try to go to kernel.org or some other site to download something, is everything getting routed through that other network? (so my max speed for all downloads is 15k/s?) Or are only the DNS requests getting routed and I can still get my normal download speeds I would have been able to before logging into the router?

  On Windows 7, applications signed by "Microsoft Windows Publisher" don't prompt for elevation when UAC is turned on. Is there any way that I can add my own code-signing certificate to the UAC exclusions list, to get the same behaviour? I've got a couple of utilities that I always want to run elevated, so if I could sign them myself and install my self-signed CA certificate somewhere, and then bypass the UAC prompt, that'd save me time every morning when I log in.

  I'm trying to get MySQL to function as a backend for authenticating users on CentOS 6.3. So far I have successfully installed and configured libnss-mysql. I can test this by doing: # groups testuser testuser : sftp Testuser is a member of the sftp group in fact, all MySQL based useraccounts will be hardcoded to it. The sftp group is chrooted and forced to use internal-sftp so they cannot do anything but access their home directory. Then I configured pam-mysql and PAM to allow mysql logins. This also works.. • What is Error 324? Is it related to Google Chrome? Or Verizon Webmail?

  My in-laws are having trouble with signing into their Verizon Webmail account at webmail.verizon.net, only when they are on their wireless network. When they try to log in from wireless they get "Error 324" in the browser, in both Google Chrome AND IE8. But they can access any other site, and they can get on their Verizon email when they plug in directly to the browser. Does anyone know why this is?

  I have the following commands in /etc/rc.local chmod 666 /dev/fuse chmod +x /usr/bin/fusermount /bin/su someuser -c "/usr/bin/sshfs someuser@someserver:/usr/local/storage /usr/local/storage_remote -o nonempty -o reconnect" If I run them from command line, as root, they work. If I reboot the server they won't run from /etc/rc.local. I try to figure out what I do wrong but I don't have console access and I couldn't find any errors in /var/log related to sshfs.

  I just recently set up a mixture of RHEL 6.1 Rackspace cloud hosts and RHEL 6.2 dedicated hosts using Rackconnect. I am experiencing intermittent Redis timeouts from within our Rails 3.2.8 app with Redis 2.4.16 running on the RHEL 6.2 dedicated hosts. There is no network latency or packet loss. Also there are no errors on any interfaces on our cloud or dedicated servers or on the managed firewall from Rackspace. When Redis timesout, there is nothing logged within redis even though it is set up to do debug logging. The only error we receive is from Airbrake saying there was a Redis timeout.   Hello, Recently I installed an apcusbd on a FreeBSD 8.0 amd64 box via ports system. It installed perfectly but it won't run. Here what is says in the log: FATAL ERROR in generic-usb.c at line 636 Cannot find UPS device It appeared that HID driver picked the /dev/ugen4.2 which could cause the apcusb being unable to find the device. After I had discovered this, I rebuilt the kernel and removed the hid driver. Now it just shows "ugen4.2: <Tripp Lite> at usbus4" and no uhid0 device appears. Nevertheless the problem persisted. I tried to leave the DEVICE config setting blank --- won't help. Then I specified the particular device in the config, but it did not help either. • Linux Teamviewer functionality, but for ssh only

  I need to access some Linux server behind NAT (no ports forwarded), so I need to have something like "phone home" like Teamviewer has. There is no GUI, but somebody can log in through SSH and dictate a password if it is changing (like Teamviewer). SSH (port 22) is enough (I can tunnel ports through SSH if I need). Any suggestions? How safe is it?

  when "Services" opens, it's in Extended View. i prefer Standard view. i also prefer this column layout: Status | Startup Type | Log On As | Name | Description because when I expand all columns via Ctrl+(numeric keypad "+") what i need to see most i can view without being forced to scroll to the right. Problem: my preferred layout does not persist. QUESTION: how can i force Windows (2008 R2, 7, XP, et cetera) to remmember my settings? thnx / g.

  We set the Group Policy for our Domain and OUs to show the logon message: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\ Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on but nothing happen when the client computer logon. I checked the RSOP.MSC to see the group policy that set and the message is set on client computer but it doesn't show at the logon prompt. so what should I do? We have Windows server 2003 AD and Windows XP Pro on client computer.

  I'm looking for consumer router / firmware recommendations with reasonably robust remote URL / hostname logging & reporting functionality. Most logging functionality I've seen is terrible - reporting only IP addresses, not rolling up reports or reporting any useful statistics. The logs are also often limited to merely the last few minutes/hours when handling high-traffic loads. Bonus points for providing a screenshot of the log reporting interface!

• mysqld_multi stop doesn't seem to work

  mysqld_multi stop 1 followed by (repeatedly, a few moments later) mysqld_multi report 1 returns: Reporting MySQL servers MySQL server from group: mysqld1 is running The instances work fine and when I reboot, I have to start the instances to get them to come back up (a separate issue I need to resolve), but the stop command doesn't seem to do anything. It truly doesn't stop the instance because in the instance log file I see this: 120619 11:12:39 mysqld_safe A mysqld process already exists after trying to run start after.

  My cron jobs are trying to mail their results using the local mail feature of Ubuntu (not internet email, the kind of mail you can read with mutt). However, /var/log/syslog reports /USR/SBIN/CRON[19212]: (speedtax) MAIL (mailed 52 bytes of output but got status 0x0006 ) I would like to setup local mail (so that cron can deliver the output successfully) but do not want to setup internet email. It seems Java process do something and began to slowly eat all the resources of the server. I don't know exactly if this could be the root cause. Im using Debian Squeeze. uname -a Linux srv156 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 11:00:33 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux I really will appreciate your help, i dont know what more to do.
