  • php parsing csv with ftell

    - by Robert82
I have a 500mb csv file with over 500,000 lines, each with 80 fields. I am using fget to process the file line by line. $col1 = array(); while (($row = fgetcsv($handle, 1000, ",")) !== FALSE) { $col1[] = $row[0]; } Because of an execution time limit on the PHP file by my hosting provider (120 seconds), I can't process the whole file in one run. I tried using ftell() and fseek() to remember the last position for restart. The trouble is, sometimes the ftell() position is in the middle of a row, and resuming means missing the first half of the row. Is there an elegant way to know the last line successfully processed, and resume from the one after it? I realize I can do a simple counter, and then loop through to that point again, but that would produce diminishing returns on the rows I can process towards the end of the file. Is there something like ftell() and fseek() that would work in my case? Or a way to limit ftell() to return the pointer for the end of the previous line?

  • multiplying all elements in an array by an outside number?

    - by prodo
I need to multiple all the values in an array by 3000 which in turn would create a new array that I will use to subtract from another array. I've tried to create a separate method that would do that for me but all I got back in the multiplied array was a bunch of numbers and symbols strangely? here is the code that I wrote public static void main(String[] args) { int numberOfTaxpayers = Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter how many users you would like to calculate taxes for: "); int[] usernumChild = new int[numberOfTaxPayers]; for (int i = 0; i < usernumChild.length; i++) { usernumChild[i] = Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter number of children for user "+ (i+1) +": ")); }//this for loop finds out the number of children per user so we can later multiply each input by 3000 to create an array that determine dependency exemption for each user int[] depndExemp = multiply(usernumChild, 3000);//this was the calling of the multiply method... somewhere here is the error!! }//end main method public static int[] multiply(int[] children, int number) { int array[] = new int[children.length]; for( int i = 0; i < children.length; i++) { children[i] = children[i] * number; }//end for return array; }//this is the method that I was shown in a previous post on how to create return an array in this the dependency exemption array but when I tested this by printing out the dependency array all I received were a jumble of wrong numbers.

  • PHP: cannot matching string "<br />

    - by Patrick
hi, I'm having problems with string matching in PHP. I've 2 html elements in my page, I've copy pasted here the content with Firebug <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Year:</div> 2009 </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Synopsis:</div> &lt;br /&gt; </div> This php line works perfectly (the element with 2009 is detected) <?php if ($items[0]['view'] == '2009') : echo "ok"; ?> However I'm not able to match the string containing element: <?php if ($items[0]['view'] == '<br />') : echo "ok"; ?> //doesn't work <?php if ($items[0]['view'] == '&lt;br /&gt;') : echo "ok"; ?> //again doesn't work any tip ? To give you some context: The strings are produced by CKEditor, an editor I'm using in my Drupal back-end. When I leave empty this editor, the tag is displayed on the string as plain text (because I set "plain text" as formatting option in the back-end) Thanks

  • Returning a lua table on SWIG call

    - by Tom J Nowell
I have a class with a methodcalled GetEnemiesLua. I have bound this class to lua using SWIG, and I can call this method using my lua code. I am trying to get the method to return a lua table of objects. Here is my current code: void CSpringGame::GetEnemiesLua(){ std::vector<springai::Unit*> enemies = callback->GetEnemyUnits(); if( enemies.empty()){ lua_pushnil(ai->L); return; } else{ lua_newtable(ai->L); int top = lua_gettop(ai->L); int index = 1; for (std::vector<springai::Unit*>::iterator it = enemies.begin(); it != enemies.end(); ++it) { //key lua_pushinteger(ai->L,index);//lua_pushstring(L, key); //value CSpringUnit* unit = new CSpringUnit(callback,*it,this); ai->PushIUnit(unit); lua_settable(ai->L, -3); ++index; } ::lua_pushvalue(ai->L,-1); } } PushIUnit is as follows: void CTestAI::PushIUnit(IUnit* unit){ SWIG_NewPointerObj(L,unit,SWIGTYPE_p_IUnit,1); } To test this I have the following code: t = game:GetEnemiesLua() if t == nil then game:SendToConsole("t is nil! ") end The result is always 't is nil', despite this being incorrect. I have put breakpoints in the code and it is indeed going over the loop, rather than doing lua_pushnil. So how do I make my method return a table when called via lua?

  • Rails 3 upgrade will_pagination wrong number of arguments (2 for 1)

    - by user1452541
I am in the process of upgrading my rails app from 2.3.5 to 3.2.5 on ruby 1.9.3. In the old app I was using the will_paginate plugin, which I have converted to a gem. Now after the upgrade I am getting the following error : wrong number of arguments (2 for 1) A few lines from application trace: Application Trace | Framework Trace | Full Trace will_paginate (3.0.3) lib/will_paginate/active_record.rb:124:in `paginate' app/models/activity.rb:28:in `dashboard_activities' app/controllers/dashboard_controller.rb:10:in `index' actionpack (3.2.5) lib/action_controller/metal/implicit_render.rb:4:in `send_action' actionpack (3.2.5) l I believe the issue is in the old code in the activity Model where I am using pagination. Can anyone help? The code: def dashboard_activities(page, total_records, date_range1 = nil, date_range2 = nil ) unless date_range2.nil? x =[ "is_delete = false AND status = 'open' AND date(due_date) between ? and ?", date_range1, date_range2] else x =[ "is_delete = false AND status = 'open' AND date(due_date) = ? • Rails active record association problem

    - by Harm de Wit
Hello, I'm new at active record association in rails so i don't know how to solve the following problem: I have a tables called 'meetings' and 'users'. I have correctly associated these two together by making a table 'participants' and set the following association statements: class Meeting < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :participants, :dependent => :destroy has_many :users, :through => :participants and class Participant < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :meeting belongs_to :user and the last model class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :participants, :dependent => :destroy At this point all is going well and i can access the user values of attending participants of a specific meeting by calling @meeting.users in the normal meetingshow.html.erb view. Now i want to make connections between these participants. Therefore i made a model called 'connections' and created the columns of 'meeting_id', 'user_id' and 'connected_user_id'. So these connections are kinda like friendships within a certain meeting. My question is: How can i set the model associations so i can easily control these connections? I would like to see a solution where i could use @meeting.users.each do |user| user.connections.each do |c| <do something> end end I tried this by changing the model of meetings to this: class Meeting < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :participants, :dependent => :destroy has_many :users, :through => :participants has_many :connections, :dependent => :destroy has_many :participating_user_connections, :through => :connections, :source => :user Please, does anyone have a solution/tip how to solve this the rails way?

  • Internal typedef and circular dependency

    - by bcr
I have two classes whose functions take typedefed pointers to eachother as return values and parameters. I.e.: class Segment; class Location : public Fwk::NamedInterface { public: // ===== Class Typedefs ===== typedef Fwk::Ptr<Location const> PtrConst; typedef Fwk::Ptr<Location> Ptr; // ===== Class Typedefs End ===== void segmentIs(Segment::Ptr seg); /* ... */ } and class Location; class Segment : public Fwk::NamedInterface { public: // ===== Class Typedefs ===== typedef Fwk::Ptr<Segment const> PtrConst; typedef Fwk::Ptr<Segment> Ptr; // ===== Class Typedefs End ===== void locationIs(Location::Ptr seg); /* ... */ } This understandably generated linker errors...which the forward declarations of the respective classes don't fix. How can I forward declare the Ptr and PtrConst typedefs while keeping these typedefs internal to the class (i.e. I would like to write Location::Ptr to refer to the location pointer type)? Thanks folks!

  • C# Custom user settings class not saving

    - by Zenox
I have the following class: [Serializable] [XmlRoot ( ElementName = "TextData", IsNullable = false)] public class TextData { private System.Drawing.Font fontColor; [XmlAttribute ( AttributeName = "Font" )] public System.Drawing.Font Font { get; set; } [XmlAttribute ( AttributeName = "FontColor" )] public System.Drawing.Color FontColor { get; set; } [XmlAttribute ( AttributeName = "Text" )] public string Text { get; set; } public TextData ( ) { } // End of TextData } // End of TextData And Im attempting to save it with the following code: // Create our font dialog FontDialog fontDialog = new FontDialog ( ); fontDialog.ShowColor = true; // Display the dialog and check for an ok if ( DialogResult.OK == fontDialog.ShowDialog ( ) ) { // Save our changes for the font settings if ( null == Properties.Settings.Default.MainHeadlineTextData ) { Properties.Settings.Default.MainHeadlineTextData = new TextData ( ); } Properties.Settings.Default.MainHeadlineTextData.Font = fontDialog.Font; Properties.Settings.Default.MainHeadlineTextData.FontColor = fontDialog.Color; Properties.Settings.Default.Save ( ); } Everytime I load the the application, the Properties.Settings.Default.MainHeadlineTextData is still null. Saving does not seem to take effect. I read on another post that the class must be public and it is. Any ideas why this would not be working properly?

  • Optional mix of filter parameters in a search the Rails way.

    - by GSP
I've got a simple list page with a couple of search filters status which is a simple enumeration and a test query which I want to compare against both the title and description field of my model. In my controller, I want to do something like this: def index conditions = {} conditions[:status] = params[:status] if params[:status] and !params[:status].empty? conditions[???] = ["(descr = ? or title = ?)", params[:q], params[:q]] if params[:q] and !params[:q].empty? @items = Item.find(:all, :conditions => conditions) end Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can mix the two types of conditions (the hash and the paramatized version). Is there a "Rails Way" of doing this or do I simply have to do something awful like this: has_status = params[:status] and !params[:status].empty? has_text = params[:q] and !params[:q].empty? if has_status and !has_text # build paramatized condition with just the status elsif has_text and !has_status # build paramatized condition with just the text query elsif has_text and has_status # build paramatized condition with both else # build paramatized condition with neither end I'm migrating from Hibernate and Criteria so forgive me if I'm not thinking of this correctly... Environment: Rails 2.3.4

  • XNA, C# - Check if a Vector2 path crosses another Vector2 path.

    - by Nick
    Hello all, I have an XNA question for those with more experience in these matters than myself (maths). Background: I have a game that implements a boundary class, this simply hosts 2 Vector2 objects, a start and an end point. The current implementation crudely handles collision detection by assuming boundaries are always vertical or horizontal, i.e. if start.x and end.x are the same check I am not trying to pass x etc. Ideally what I would like to implement is a method that accepts two Vector2 parameters. The first being a current location, the second being a requested location (where I would like to move it to assuming no objections). The method would also accept a boundary object. What the method should then do is tell me if I am going to cross the boundry in this move. this could be a bool or ideally something representing how far I can actually move. This empty method might explain better than I can in words. /// <summary> /// Checks the move. /// </summary> /// <param name="current">The current.</param> /// <param name="requested">The requested.</param> /// <param name="boundry">The boundry.</param> /// <returns></returns> public bool CheckMove(Vector2 current, Vector2 requested, Boundry boundry) { //return a bool that indicated if the suggested move will cross the boundry. return true; }

  • Jquery image slider window resize scaling issue

    - by eb_Dev
Hi, I have created image gallery slider, the images of which scale with the window size. My problem is I can't seem to create the right formula to ensure that the slider is at the right position when the window is scaled. If I am at the first image and the slider 'left' offset is 0 then the scaling works fine and my offset is correct, however when I am on image two and my slider is offset by say -1500 and then the window is resized, the slider is then at the wrong offset. Taking this into account I figured I could just add / subtract the new window size difference from the slider offset and therefore have everything in the right position. I was wrong. It works for the first two images but then If I am at the end of my slider on the last image I get a nice big gap between the end of the last image and the border of the page. Can someone please show my where I am going wrong please? I've spent days on this :( The relevant code is as follows: $(window).bind('resize', function(event, delta) { /* Resize work images - resizes all to document width */ resizeWorkImages('div.page.work div#work ul'); /* Position slider controls */ positionSliderControls(); /* Get the difference between the old window width and the new */ var windowDiff = (gLastWindowWidth - $(window).width()) * -1; /* Apply difference to slider left position */ var newSliderLeftPos = stripPx($('div.page.work div#work ul').css('left')) - windowDiff; /* Apply to slider */ $('div.page.work div#work ul').css('left',newSliderLeftPos+'px') /* Update gSlider settings */ gSlider.update(); /* Record new window width */ gLastWindowWidth = $(window).width(); }); Thanks, eb_dev

  • Array values changing unexpectedly

    - by Lizard
I am using cakephp 1.2 and I have an array that appears to have a value change even though that variable is not being manipulated. Below is the code to that is causing me trouble. PLEASE NOTE - UPDATE Changing the variable name makes no difference to the outcome, The values get changed somewhere between the two print_r calls, and I can't see why the $this-find would do this . echo "Start of findCountByString()"; print_r($myArr); $test = $this->find('count', array( 'conditions' => $conditions, 'joins' => array('LEFT JOIN `articles_entities` AS ArticleEntity ON `ArticleEntity`.`article_id` = `Article`.`id`'), 'group' => 'Article.id' )); echo "End of findCountByString()"; print_r($myArr); I am getting the following output: Start of findCountByString() Array ( [0] => 4bdb1d96-c680-4c2c-aae7-104c39d70629 [1] => 4bdb1d6a-9e38-479d-9ad4-105c39d70629 [2] => 4bdb1b55-35f0-4d22-ab38-104e39d70629 [3] => 4bdb25f4-34d4-46ea-bcb6-104f39d70629 ) End of findCountByString() Array ( [0] => 4bdb1d96-c680-4c2c-aae7-104c39d70629 [1] => 4bdb1d6a-9e38-479d-9ad4-105c39d70629 [2] => 4bdb1b55-35f0-4d22-ab38-104e39d70629 [3] => '4bdb25f4-34d4-46ea-bcb6-104f39d70629' # This is now in inverted commas ) The the value in my array have changed, and I don't know why? • Rails uses wrong class in belongs_to

    - by macsniper
I have an application managing software tests and a class called TestResult: class TestResult < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :test_case, :class_name => "TestCase" end I'm right now migrating from Rails 1.x to 2.3.5. In Rails 1.x everything works fine. When trying to access the association in Rails 2.3.5, I get the following error: NoMethodError: undefined method 'find' for ActiveRecord::TestCase:Class from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations/belongs_to_association.rb:49:in 'send' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations/belongs_to_association.rb:49:in 'find_target' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations/association_proxy.rb:239:in 'load_target' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations/association_proxy.rb:112:in 'reload' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations.rb:1250:in 'test_case' My Question is: how can I tell Rails to use my TestCase-class instead of ActiveRecord::TestCase. TestCase class: class TestCase < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name "test_case" has_many :test_results belongs_to :component, :foreign_key => "subsystem_id" belongs_to :domain, :foreign_key => "area_id" belongs_to :use_case, :foreign_key => "use_case_id" end

  • Update paths of already-created Paperclip attachments

    - by Horace Loeb
I used to have this buggy Paperclip config: class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :image, :storage => :s3, :styles => { :medium => "600x600>", :small => "320x320>", :thumb => "100x100#" }, :s3_credentials => "#{RAILS_ROOT}/config/s3.yml", :path => "/:style/:filename" end This is buggy because two images cannot have the same size and filename. To fix this, I changed the config to: class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :image, :storage => :s3, :styles => { :medium => "600x600>", :small => "320x320>", :thumb => "100x100#" }, :s3_credentials => "#{RAILS_ROOT}/config/s3.yml", :path => "/:style/:id_:filename" end Unfortunately this breaks all URLs to attachments I've already created. How can I update those file paths or otherwise get the URLs to work?

  • Writing all the html of a document with jquery instead of in the page body?

    - by Robert
I'm a UI person currently working on a web application, where most of the people I work with are back end developers. I'm currently at a disagreement with them about whether or not the above is a prudent thing to do. This application doe use quite a bit of JavaScript, and wouldn't even work without it unfortunately. This being the case, One of the back end developers that I'm working with is claiming that pages could and even SHOULD be build completely with JavaScript or jquery. This caught me completely off guard. We're talking about div tags, lists, background images and text here. I'm trying to explain to him that this isn't the right way to do things at all, and from a best practices perspective: content(html) should be separate from presentation(css), and behavior(script etc.). I know that it's possible to write html in jquery, although I haven't done it, but am I wrong in my thinking that this isn't the way things should be done. Is it even possible to write ALL the code with jquery? would love to hear any thoughts either way, as I will be discussing this with him again tomorrow.

  • How to add a checkbox for each row in Rails 3.2 index page?

    - by user938363
We would like to add a checkbox to each row on Rails index page to flag for the row. This checkbox is not part of the object (no checkbox boolean in database). When the index page shows, a user can check the box to trigger an event for the row in following process: #objects/checkbox_index.html.erb <table> <tr> <th>CheckBox</th> <th>Object Name</th> <th>Object ID</th> </tr> <%= @objects.each do |obj| %> <tr> <td><%= checkbox %></td> <td><%= obj.name %></td> <td><%= obj.id %></td> </tr> <% end %> </table> In controller, the process will be like this: @objects.each do |obj| some_event if obj.checked end There are a couple of questions we don't quite understand: 1. How to declare an array checkbox variable on the form and link it to each row of obj? We have been using `attr_accessor` to declare var for a form. 2. How to retrieve each row on checkbox_index form and pass them back to controller? We are using simple_form for new/edit. Can anyone point me towards any good examples of this sort of behavior, or suggest what we should be thinking about? Many Thanks.

  • how can I cache a partial retrieved through link_to_remote in rails?

    - by Angela
I use link_to_remote to pull the dynamic contents of a partial onto the page. It's basically a long row from a database of "todo's" for the day. So as the person goes through and checks them off, I want to show the updated list with a line through those that are finished. Currently, I end up needing to click on the link_to_remote again after an item is ticked off, but would like it to redirect back to the "cached" page of to-do's but with the one item lined through. How do I do that? Here is the main view: <% @campaigns.each do |campaign| %> <!--link_to_remote(name, options = {}, html_options = nil)--> <tr><td> <%= link_to_remote(campaign.name, :update => "campaign_todo", :url => {:action => "campaign_todo", :id => campaign.id } ) %> </td></tr> <% end %> </table> <div id="campaign_todo"> </div> I'd like when the New/Create actions are done to go back to the page that redirected it there.

  • How do I create a self referential association (self join) in a single class using ActiveRecord in Rails?

    - by Daniel Chang
I am trying to create a self join table that represents a list of customers who can refer each other (perhaps to a product or a program). I am trying to limit my model to just one class, "Customer". The schema is: create_table "customers", force: true do |t| t.string "name" t.integer "referring_customer_id" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end add_index "customers", ["referring_customer_id"], name: "index_customers_on_referring_customer_id" My model is: class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :referrals, class_name: "Customer", foreign_key: "referring_customer_id", conditions: {:referring_customer_id => :id} belongs_to :referring_customer, class_name: "Customer", foreign_key: "referring_customer_id" end I have no problem accessing a customer's referring_customer: @customer.referring_customer.name ... returns the name of the customer that referred @customer. However, I keep getting an empty array when accessing referrals: @customer.referrals ... returns []. I ran binding.pry to see what SQL was being run, given a customer who has a "referer" and should have several referrals. This is the SQL being executed. Customer Load (0.3ms) SELECT "customers".* FROM "customers" WHERE "customers"."id" = ? ORDER BY "customers"."id" ASC LIMIT 1 [["id", 2]] Customer Exists (0.2ms) SELECT 1 AS one FROM "customers" WHERE "customers"."referring_customer_id" = ? AND "customers"."referring_customer_id" = 'id' LIMIT 1 [["referring_customer_id", 3]] I'm a bit lost and am unsure where my problem lies. I don't think my query is correct -- @customer.referrals should return an array of all the referrals, which are the customers who have @customer.id as their referring_customer_id.

  • How can I provide property-level string formatting?

    - by jhubsharp
Not sure if the question wording is accurate, but here's what I want to do: I want to databind a class with some strings in it: class MyClass { public string MyProperty { get; set; } public string MyProperty2 { get; set; } } When databinding, everything behaves normally. On the back end, I'm writing to a file and I want MyProperty2 to always be encrypted using some encryption algorithm. I want my back-end code to write each string without needing to know that encryption is required (I want the class to know it should be encrypted, not the consumer). Can I do this with a type converter, or something similar? EDIT: There are other scenarios as well. Some booleans I want to format as "Y" or "N", other booleans I want formatted as "Enabled" / "Disabled", etc. I can write (and have written) helper methods and let the file writer call the helper methods as appropriate, I'm just wondering if there's a way to do this without the file writer needing to know which objects need which kind of formatting and let the objects tell that to the file writer.

  • Creation of AsyncTask taking too much time Android

    - by user2842342
I am making a network call in an AsyncTask, but the problem i am facing is the amount of time it is taking to start the doInBackground method. Here is a part of my code: button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Log.d("Temp:",System.currentTimeMillis()+""); new Move().execute(); /*some other logic } } And my AsyncTask is: private class Move extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... temp) { Log.d("start:",System.currentTimeMillis()+""); gson.fromJson(Web.Request.get(some_URL),Void.class); Log.d("end:",System.currentTimeMillis()+""); return null; } } These are the logs i got: 32658-998/com.example.game D/temp:? 1408923006159 32658-998/com.example.game D/start:? 1408923035163 32658-998/com.example.game D/end:? 1408923035199 So actually it took almost 29 secs to reach the first line in doInBackground method, where as it took just 36 ms to finish the network call. I tried it many times, the time taken is almost in the same order. Is it possible to start the AsyncTask immediately? Or is there any other way to solve this problem.(other than a running a simple thread?) Thank you :)

This is the view. consult_form.js.erb: <div id="charging_form"> <h4>Charging form</h4> <div class="left" id="charge_selection"> <%= select_tag("select_category", options_from_collection_for_select(@categories, :id, :name)) %><br/> ... consults_controller_test.rb: require 'test_helper' class ConsultsControllerTest < ActionController::TestCase def test_should_create_new_consult get_with_user :charge_form, :animal_id => animals(:one), :id => consults(:one), :format => 'js' assert_response :success assert_select 'h4', "Charging form" #can't find h4 end end Is there a problem with using assert_select with types other than html? Thank you for any help!

  • What is Rails way to DRY up the controller pattern of verifying :id is for a valid object (else redirect to error page)

    - by jpwynn
One of my controllers has close to 100 methods (eg routes) and nearly every one starts out the same code to redirect to an error page if the id param is invalid, followed by a similar check if the user that id doesn't belong in the user's account: def something @foo = Foo.find_by_guid(params[:id]) unless @foo @msg ||= { :title => 'No such page!', :desc => "There is no such page!" } render :action => "error" and return end unless @foo.owner_id == current_user.id @msg ||= { :title => 'Really?', :desc => "There is no such page." } render :action => "error" and return end What is the best way to DRY up that sort of page id and owner id validation, given the code is doing a render ... and return? What I don't want to do at this point is offload it to a blackbox roles and permissions library like CanCan... my goal is simply to have the in-app code to handle this be as clean as possible.

  • for loop vs std::for_each with lambda

    - by Andrey
Let's consider a template function written in C++11 which iterates over a container. Please exclude from consideration the range loop syntax because it is not yet supported by the compiler I'm working with. template <typename Container> void DoSomething(const Container& i_container) { // Option #1 for (auto it = std::begin(i_container); it != std::end(i_container); ++it) { // do something with *it } // Option #2 std::for_each(std::begin(i_container), std::end(i_container), [] (typename Container::const_reference element) { // do something with element }); } What are pros/cons of for loop vs std::for_each in terms of: a) performance? (I don't expect any difference) b) readability and maintainability? Here I see many disadvantages of for_each. It wouldn't accept a c-style array while the loop would. The declaration of the lambda formal parameter is so verbose, not possible to use auto there. It is not possible to break out of for_each. In pre- C++11 days arguments against for were a need of specifying the type for the iterator (doesn't hold any more) and an easy possibility of mistyping the loop condition (I've never done such mistake in 10 years). As a conclusion, my thoughts about for_each contradict the common opinion. What am I missing here?

  • Printing the results in the original order

    - by Sam
    String[] numbers = new String[] {"3", "4", "s", "a", "c", "h", "i", "n", "t", "e", "n", "d", "u", "l", "k"}; Map<String, Integer> map = new HashMap<String, Integer>(); for (int i = 0; i < numbers.length; i++) { String key = numbers[i]; if (map.containsKey(key)) { int occurrence = map.get(key); occurrence++; map.put(key, occurrence); } else { map.put(key, 1); }// end of if else }// end of for loop Iterator<String> iterator = map.keySet().iterator(); while (iterator.hasNext()) { String key = iterator.next(); int occurrence = map.get(key); System.out.println(key + " occur " + occurrence + " time(s)."); } This program tries to count the number of occurrences of a string. When I execute it I am getting the answer, but the output is not in the original order, it is shuffled. How can I output the strings in the original order?
