  • Twitter Bootstrap Navbar blocking svg viewBox

    - by user1167650
I have a navbar fixed to the bottom and I have page that has a title and a giant svg (created by d3.js). I would like the svg to take up the entire screen (whatever is left over), but it always seems to have some part appear behind the bottom nav bar. I've tried: 1) using viewBox to auto-resize, setting the parent div and the svg to be block elements 2) adding padding-bottom to the body element But the svg still appears behind the navbar on wide screen monitors.

  • Possible to "next track" e.g. Spotify from my app?

    - by parse
I'm planning on doing a application for Android 2.1 that changes song every minute (through what I hope exists in Android, "next track") for the application using the audio device atm. So if I have Spotify (http://www.spotify.com) running in background already, playing music, can I through my program change to the next track? Let me know if I was unclear about anything. Thanks in advance!

  • Coping with feelings of technical mediocrity

    - by Karim
As I've progressed as a programmer, I noticed more nuance and areas I could study in depth. In part, I've come to think of myself from, at one point, a "guru" to now much less, even mediocre or inadequate. Is this normal, or is it a sign of a destructive excessive ambition? Background I started to program when I was still a kid, I had about 10 or 11 years. I really enjoy my work and never get bored from it. It's amazing how somebody could be paid for what he really likes to do and would be doing it anyway even for free. When I first started to program, I was feeling proud of what I was doing, each application I built was for me a success and after 2-3 year I had a feeling that I'm a coding guru. It was a nice feeling. ;-) But the more I was in the field and the more types of software I started to develop, I was starting to have a feeling that I'm completely wrong in thinking I'm a guru. I felt that I'm not even a mediocre developer. Each new field I start to work on is giving me this feeling. Like when I once developed a device driver for a client, I saw how much I need to learn about device drivers. When I developed a video filter for an application, I saw how much do I still need to learn about DirectShow, Color Spaces, and all the theory behind that. The worst thing was when I started to learn algorithms. It was several years ago. I knew then the basic structures and algorithms like the sorting, some types of trees, some hashtables, strings, etc. and when I really wanted to learn a group of structures I learned about 5-6 new types and saw that in fact even this small group has several hundred subtypes of structures. It's depressing how little time people have in their lives to learn all this stuff. I'm now a software developer with about 10 years of experience and I still feel that I'm not a proficient developer when I think about things that others do in the industry.

  • non blocking TCP-acceptor not reading from socket

    - by Abruzzo Forte e Gentile
    I have the code below implementing a NON-Blocking TCP acceptor. Clients are able to connect without any problem and the writing seems occurring as well, but the acceptor doesn't read anything from the socket and the call to read() blocks indefinitely. Am I using some wrong setting for the acceptor? Kind Regards AFG int main(){ create_programming_socket(); poll_programming_connect(); while(1){ poll_programming_read(); } } int create_programming_socket(){ int cnt = 0; p_listen_socket = socket( AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0 ); if( p_listen_socket < 0 ){ return 1; } int flags = fcntl( p_listen_socket, F_GETFL, 0 ); if( fcntl( p_listen_socket, F_SETFL, flags | O_NONBLOCK ) == -1 ){ return 1; } bzero( (char*)&p_serv_addr, sizeof(p_serv_addr) ); p_serv_addr.sin_family = AF_INET; p_serv_addr.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; p_serv_addr.sin_port = htons( p_port ); if( bind( p_listen_socket, (struct sockaddr*)&p_serv_addr , sizeof(p_serv_addr) ) < 0 ) { return 1; } listen( p_listen_socket, 5 ); return 0; } int poll_programming_connect(){ int retval = 0; static socklen_t p_clilen = sizeof(p_cli_addr); int res = accept( p_listen_socket, (struct sockaddr*)&p_cli_addr, &p_clilen ); if( res > 0 ){ p_conn_socket = res; int flags = fcntl( p_conn_socket, F_GETFL, 0 ); if( fcntl( p_conn_socket, F_SETFL, flags | O_NONBLOCK ) == -1 ){ retval = 1; }else{ p_connected = true; } }else if( res == -1 && ( errno == EWOULDBLOCK || errno == EAGAIN ) ) { //printf( "poll_sock(): accept(c_listen_socket) would block\n"); }else{ retval = 1; } return retval; } int poll_programming_read(){ int retval = 0; bzero( p_buffer, 256 ); int numbytes = read( p_conn_socket, p_buffer, 255 ); if( numbytes > 0 ) { fprintf( stderr, "poll_sock(): read() read %d bytes\n", numbytes ); pkt_struct2_t tx_buf; int fred; int i; } else if( numbytes == -1 && ( errno == EWOULDBLOCK || errno == EAGAIN ) ) { //printf( "poll_sock(): read() would block\n"); } else { close( p_conn_socket ); p_connected = false; retval = 1; } return retval; }

  • What is the performance difference between blocks and callbacks?

    - by Don
One of the things that block objects, introduced in Snow Leopard, are good for is situations that would previously have been handled with callbacks. The syntax is much cleaner for passing context around. However, I haven't seen any information on the performance implications of using blocks in this manner. What, if any, performance pitfalls should I look out for when using blocks, particularly as a replacement for a C-style callback?

  • Why should I use PropertyProxyValidator? ASP.NET

    - by user102533
I understand thatthe PropertyProxyValidator integrates with the ASP.NET UI. But, it cannot do client side validation. How would it be any different from throwing in a label in the UI and populating the errors on the server side? Also, If I am using Validation Application Block, what approaches do you suggest for client side validation if I don't want to duplicate rules on server and client side?

  • Unfamiliar Javascript Syntax

    - by user1051643
Long and short of the story is, whilst reading John Resig's blog (specifically http://ejohn.org/blog/javascript-trie-performance-analysis/) I came across a line which makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. Essentially it boils down to object = object[key] = something; (this can be found in the first code block of the article I've linked.) This has proven rather difficult to google, so if anyone can offer some insight / a good online resource for me to learn for myself, I'd much appreciate it.

  • What happens to an ad hoc installed iPhone/iPad app when a new iTunes profile is synced against?

    - by user363100
I'm currently involved in a project where a number of iPads loaded with a special app are given away to a number of people at a certain event. Both because of time constraints as well as our desire to give these people a really exclusive app, we decided to prepare these devices using ad hoc installs of the app. What will happen to the app when the recipients of the device decide to sync it with their existing iTunes account instead one of our "recipient x" accounts?
