  • Jquery.Validate plugin + realPerson plugin

    - by Dave Watts
I can't figure out how to make it so the form wont fire unless the realPerson captcha is "valid". I can see that when the user types in the correct/valid letters and clicks submit it adds a class of "valid" to the input. So Ive been trying to figure out how to get the jquery.validate plugin to only fire when the class "valid" is present. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#defaultReal').realperson(); $('#contact_form2').validate({ submitHandler: function(form) { var str = $("form").serialize(); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "contactpage.php", data: str, success: function(){ $('#contact_form2').html("<div id='message'></div>"); $('#message').html("<h2>Contact Form Submitted!</h2>") .append("<p>We will be in touch soon.</p>") .hide() .fadeIn(1500, function() { $('#message').append("<img id='checkmark' src='images/check.png' />"); }); }}); return false; } }); Thank you in advanced! -Dave

  • IE8 ignores jQuery UI 'dialog' minHeight and height settings

    - by Kev
    I'm using jQuery 1.4.4 with jQueryUI 1.8.7 to display a modal dialog box. I'm having a problem where IE8 renders a scrollbar and appears to ignore the minHeight and height options in all the many different combinations I've tried them in. In Chrome 8 and Firefox 3.6 my dialogue looks like: In IE 8 it looks like: The markup and script looks like: <a id="create" href="#">Create New Thing</a> <div id="dlg-create-thing" title="Create new thing?"> <form name="create-thing-form" id="dlg-create-thing-form"> <p style="text-align:left"> <span>Name: <input id="thingName" name="thingName" maxlength="12" size="30" /></span> <br /><br /> <b>Thing options:</b><br /><br /> <input type="radio" id="option1" name="theoptions" value="0" checked="checked" />Use this option<br /> <input type="radio" id="option1AndMem" name="theoptions" value="1" />Use this other option </p> </form> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $("#dlg-create-thing").dialog({ autoOpen: false, resizable: false, width: 500, modal: true, minHeight: 280, buttons: { "Create": function () { /* do stuff */ }, "Cancel": function () { /* do other stuff */} } }); $("body").delegate("a[id='create']", "click", function () { $("#dlg-create-thing").dialog('open'); return false; } ); }); </script> How can I fix this (preferably in a nice browser agnostic way, but I'd settle for anything)?

  • Is there a proper and wrong way to format CSS?

    - by DavidR
When I first started writing CSS, I was writing it in an expanded form div.class { margin: 10px 5px 3px; border: 1px solid #333; font-weight: bold; } .class .subclass { text-align:right; } but now I find myself writing css like this: (Example from code I'm actually writing now) .object1 {} .scrollButton{width:44px;height:135px;} .scrollButton img {padding:51px 0 0 23px;} .object2 {width:165px;height:94px;margin:15px 0 0 23px;padding:15px 0 0 10px;background:#fff;} .featuredObject .symbol{line-height:30px; padding-top:6px;} .featuredObject .value {width:90px;} .featuredObject .valueChange {padding:5px 0 0 0;} .featuredObject img {position:absolute;margin:32px 0 0 107px;} and I'm beginning to worry because a lot of the time I see the first form done in examples online, while I find the second form a lot easier for me to work with. It has a lower vertical height, so I can see all the classes at a glance with less scrolling, the tabulation of the hierarchy seems more apparent, and it looks more like code I'd write with javascript or html. Is this a valid way of doing code, or to keep with standards when putting it online should I use the vertical form instead?

  • JQuery - .position isn't returning offset relative to parent.

    - by Spines
I'm using .position to find the offset of where the element is relative to the parent, however it seems to be returning a value that is the offset from some parent up the ancestor tree. I have a button, and its wrapped withing a div and its the only element of that div. The div is floated right. .position is returning a value like {left:780, top:370}, when the true value should be around {left:200, top:0}. I'm using jquery 1.4

  • Struts2 jQuery Plugin Autocompleter renders HTML with style attributes <== changing this?

    - by Tim
I'm using the Struts2 jQuery plugin 2.1 and render an autocompleter in my JSP. Here's the code: <s:form id="search-form" action="search" theme="simple"> <s:url id="remoteurl" action="jsonlanguages"/> <div> <sj:autocompleter cssClass="bgstandardelement empty" id="languages" name="echo" href="%{remoteurl}" delay="50" value="Search..." /> <input type="submit" id="search-button" value="GO" /> </div> </s:form> No matter what theme I set the autocompleter-form to, the HTML rendered for the list I output is always an unordered list with a style element that I cannot override. It has the following stype-attribute: style='z-index: 1; top: 242px; left: 926px; display: none; width: 256px'; As I want another outfit for my list, this doesn't work. Putting in the following attribute has no effect: cssStyle="width:115px!important;" What can I do?

  • string s; &s+1; Legal? UB?

    - by John Dibling
Consider the following code: #include <cstdlib> #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <algorithm> using namespace std; int main() { string myAry[] = { "Mary", "had", "a", "Little", "Lamb" }; const size_t numStrs = sizeof(myStr)/sizeof(myAry[0]); vector<string> myVec(&myAry[0], &myAry[numStrs]); copy( myVec.begin(), myVec.end(), ostream_iterator<string>(cout, " ")); return 0; } Of interest here is &myAry[numStrs]: numStrs is equal to 5, so &myAry[numStrs] points to something that doesn't exist; the sixth element in the array. There is another example of this in the above code: myVec.end(), which points to one-past-the-end of the vector myVec. It's perfecly legal to take the address of this element that doesn't exist. We know the size of string, so we know where the address of the 6th element of a C-style array of strings must point to. So long as we only evaluate this pointer and never dereference it, we're fine. We can even compare it to other pointers for equality. The STL does this all the time in algorithms that act on a range of iterators. The end() iterator points past the end, and the loops keep looping while a counter != end(). So now consider this: #include <cstdlib> #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <algorithm> using namespace std; int main() { string myStr = "Mary"; string* myPtr = &myStr; vector<string> myVec2(myPtr, &myPtr[1]); copy( myVec2.begin(), myVec2.end(), ostream_iterator<string>(cout, " ")); return 0; } Is this code legal and well-defined? It is legal and well-defined to take the address of an array element past the end, as in &myAry[numStrs], so should it be legal and well-defined to pretend that myPtr is also an array?

  • What is Best way to obtain filename for HTML FILE Uploading on forms?

I need to obtain the String for the file that is being uploaded from forms to store in the database. I am using the usual form input file element input type="file" name="some_name" I found a couple JS scripts that allow me to do useless things like display the string in a dialog box, etc. I need this as an element on the request object or as a hidden field on my page when the form is posted.

  • Android: How to declare global variables?

    - by niko
Hi, I am creating an application which requires login. I created the main and the login activity. In the main activity onCreate method I added the following condition: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ... loadSettings(); if(strSessionString == null) { login(); } ... } The onActivityResult method which is executed when the login form terminates looks like this: @Override public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); switch(requestCode) { case(SHOW_SUBACTICITY_LOGIN): { if(resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) { strSessionString = data.getStringExtra(Login.SESSIONSTRING); connectionAvailable = true; strUsername = data.getStringExtra(Login.USERNAME); } } } The problem is the login form sometimes appears twice (the login() method is called twice) and also when the phone keyboard slides the login form appears again and I guess the problem is the variable strSessionString. Does anyone know how to set the variable global in order to avoid login form appearing after the user already successfully authenticates? Thanks!

  • Where do I control the behavior of the "X" close button in the upper right of a winform?

    - by John at CashCommons
I'm venturing into making my VB.NET application a little better to use by making some of the forms modeless. I think I've figured out how to use dlg.Show() and dlg.Hide() instead of calling dlg.ShowDialog(). I have an instance of my modeless dialog in my main application form: Public theModelessDialog As New dlgModeless To fire up the modeless dialog I call theModelessDialog.Show() and within the OK and Cancel button handlers in dlgModeless I have Private Sub OK_Button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OK_Button.Click Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Me.Hide() End Sub Private Sub Cancel_Button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Cancel_Button.Click Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel Me.Hide() End Sub and that seems to work fine. The "X" button in the upper right is getting me, though. When I close the form with that button, then try to reopen the form, I get ObjectDisposedException was unhandled. Cannot access a disposed object. I feel like I'm most of the way there but I can't figure out how to do either of the following: Hide that "X" button Catch the event so I don't dispose of the object (just treat it like I hit Cancel) Any ideas? The class of this dialog is System.Windows.Forms.Form. Thanks as always!

  • Sorting a list of numbers with modified cost

    - by David
First, this was one of the four problems we had to solve in a project last year and I couldn’t find a suitable algorithm so we handle in a brute force solution. Problem: The numbers are in a list that is not sorted and supports only one type of operation. The operation is defined as follows: Given a position i and a position j the operation moves the number at position i to position j without altering the relative order of the other numbers. If i j, the positions of the numbers between positions j and i - 1 increment by 1, otherwise if i < j the positions of the numbers between positions i+1 and j decreases by 1. This operation requires i steps to find a number to move and j steps to locate the position to which you want to move it. Then the number of steps required to move a number of position i to position j is i+j. We need to design an algorithm that given a list of numbers, determine the optimal (in terms of cost) sequence of moves to rearrange the sequence. Attempts: Part of our investigation was around NP-Completeness, we make it a decision problem and try to find a suitable transformation to any of the problems listed in Garey and Johnson’s book: Computers and Intractability with no results. There is also no direct reference (from our point of view) to this kind of variation in Donald E. Knuth’s book: The art of Computer Programing Vol. 3 Sorting and Searching. We also analyzed algorithms to sort linked lists but none of them gives a good idea to find de optimal sequence of movements. Note that the idea is not to find an algorithm that orders the sequence, but one to tell me the optimal sequence of movements in terms of cost that organizes the sequence, you can make a copy and sort it to analyze the final position of the elements if you want, in fact we may assume that the list contains the numbers from 1 to n, so we know where we want to put each number, we are just concerned with minimizing the total cost of the steps. We tested several greedy approaches but all of them failed, divide and conquer sorting algorithms can’t be used because they swap with no cost portions of the list and our dynamic programing approaches had to consider many cases. The brute force recursive algorithm takes all the possible combinations of movements from i to j and then again all the possible moments of the rest of the element’s, at the end it returns the sequence with less total cost that sorted the list, as you can imagine the cost of this algorithm is brutal and makes it impracticable for more than 8 elements. Our observations: n movements is not necessarily cheaper than n+1 movements (unlike swaps in arrays that are O(1)). There are basically two ways of moving one element from position i to j: one is to move it directly and the other is to move other elements around i in a way that it reaches the position j. At most you make n-1 movements (the untouched element reaches its position alone). If it is the optimal sequence of movements then you didn’t move the same element twice.

  • MVC JsonResult with the [Authorize] attribute going to Logon but not displaying the view

    - by likestoski
I am seeing odd behavior with MVC 3 methods that return a JsonResult when used with the Authorize attribute. What looks like happens is the Authorize is correctly evaluated when I am not logged in but instead of redirecting to the logon form the Json response is the logon form. Is there an addition attribute that directs the response to not return a value but instead redirect the user to the logon form, preferebly with the correct returnUrl value? What I did as a demo was to setup a new MVC3 site and added AspNetMembership to my DB using the aspnet_regsql.exe command. All that is setup and logging me in correctly. The behavior of the JsonResult doesn't seem right and I'm hoping I have just missed an attribute to make it work properly. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Here is the Account Controller (leaving out the Post action which is not part of this question). public class AccountController : Controller { public ActionResult LogOn() { return View(); } [Authorize] public JsonResult AuthorizedAction() { return Json("Only returns if I am authorized"); } } Here is the Html markup: <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-ui-1.8.11.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("#btnTest").click(function () { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "Account/AuthorizedAction", data: {}, success: function (result) { $("#testMe").html(result); }, error: function (result) { $("#testMe").html('Something broke in the ajax request'); } }); }); }); </script> <input type="button" id="btnTest" value="Test me" /> <div id="testMe">I have initial text</div> The Result: 1) When logged in I get 'Only returns if I am authorized' in my test div 2) When not logged and I have a break point in my Logon() method I see this value Request["returnUrl"] "/Account/AuthorizedAction" The test div I have displays the logon form :) this seems like I'm just not handling this properly.

  • Comparing two select elements values

    - by user1135192
I've been been trying to look for a piece of javascript code that compares the values selected by a user in a html form from two <select> tags. So if the user selects a minimum value that is greater than the maximum number an alert box in javascript should be displayed. For example, if the user selects 5 bedrooms from the the MINIMUM bedrooms dropdown list and then 3 bedrooms from the MAXIMUM bedrooms dropdown list, this should not allow the form to be processed when the submit button is clicked. But is fine when 3 is selected from the MINIMUM dropdown list and 5 from the MAXIMUM dropdown list. <form name="search" action="page3.php" method="GET"> <select name="minimumBeds"> <option value="1"> 1 </option> <option value="2"> 2 </option> <option value="3"> 3 </option> <option value="4"> 4 </option> <option value="5"> 5 </option> </select> <select name="maximumBeds"> <option value="1"> 1 </option> <option value="2"> 2 </option> <option value="3"> 3 </option> <option value="4"> 4 </option> <option value="5"> 5 </option> </select> </form>

  • O(log n) algorithm for merging lists and computing rank?

    - by Eternal Learner
Given two sorted lists, each containing n real numbers, is there a O(log?n) time algorithm to compute the element of rank i (where i coresponds to index in increasing order) in the union of the two lists, assuming the elements of the two lists are distinct? I can think of using a Merge procedure to merge the 2 lists and then find the A[i] element in constant time. But the Merge would take O(n) time. How do we solve it in O(log n) time?

  • WP7 Return the last 7 days of data from an xml web service

    - by cvandal
    Hello, I'm trying to return the last 7 days of data from an xml web service but with no luck. Could someone please explain me to how I would accomplish this? The XML is as follows: <node> <api> <usagelist> <usage day="2011-01-01"> <traffic name="total" unit="bytes">23579797</traffic> </usage> <usage day="2011-01-02"> <traffic name="total" unit="bytes">23579797</traffic> </usage> <usage day="2011-01-03"> <traffic name="total" unit="bytes">23579797</traffic> </usage> <usage day="2011-01-04"> <traffic name="total" unit="bytes">23579797</traffic> </usage> </usagelist> </api> </node> EDIT The data I want to retrieve will be used to populate a line graph. Specificly I require the day attribute value and the traffic element value for the past 7 days. At the moment, I have the code below in place, howevewr it's only showing the first day 7 times and traffic for the first day 7 times. XDocument xDocument = XDocument.Parse(e.Result); var values = from query in xDocument.Descendants("usagelist") select new History { day = query.Element("usage").Attribute("day").Value, traffic = query.Element("usage").Element("traffic").Value }; foreach (History history in values) { ObservableCollection<LineGraphItem> Data = new ObservableCollection<LineGraphItem>() { new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, new LineGraphItem() { yyyymmdd = history.day, value = double.Parse(history.traffic) }, }; lineGraph1.DataSource = Data; }

  • In CSS, does it make sense or is it legal to nest an id in another id -- such as "#main #display img

    - by Jian Lin
In CSS, if it is #main #display img { height: 80px } that means all images within an element with id display that is within another element with id main. But does it make sense or is it legal since id seems to be just global names. It is because SASS actually allow nesting and some code may nest it like #main width: 700px #display img height: 80px which is "id within id".
