• kohana project structure

  Hello Guys. I'm investigating using Kohana for my next project. The site will consist of user registration (and hence user profiles) where users will have certain privileges. The site will also have an admin section where administrators can go to say block a user or delete a post or look at usage statistics for example. A good comparison site would be a multi-user blog, where each blogger depending on her/his permissions can post/edit/delete blogs...just as an example. Firstly, I'm not sure about how to set up the controller/view structure in order to separate the admin section from the front facing site. I'm using Kohana 3, so I was thinking of a controller structure like so: application/classes/controller/front (front facing)...and application/classes/controller/admin (for administrative section). Or I notice you may be able to use the Route class to set up routes, so I could set up an "admin" route. for example: www.example.com/admin will lead to the admin logon screen. www.example.com --- front controller. As well, can I somehow separate the "Admin" views and controllers from the "front facing" views and controllers like divide them up based on folder structure? Any help is very much appreciated. • Json HTTP Module stream issue

  Hey, I have an HTTP Module that I use to clean up the JSON returned by my web service (see http://www.codeproject.com/KB/webservices/ASPNET_JSONP.aspx?msg=3400287#xx3400287xx for an example of this.) Basically it relates to calling cross-domain JSON web services from javascript. There is this JsonHttpModule which uses a JsonResponseFilter Stream class to write out the JSON and the overloaded Write method is supposed to wrap the name of the callback function around the JSON, otherwise the JSON errors out as needing a label. However, if the JSON is really long, the Write method in the Stream class is called multiple times, causing the callback function to incorrectly get inserted midway through the JSON. Is there a way in the Stream class to wrap the callback function around the stream at the end or to specify that it write all of the JSON in 1 Write method instead of in chunks?? • Android application chrashes after "share" intent

  Hi, My app offers a "share/tell-a-friend" function. When the "share" button is pressed the following method is being called to open a list of apps, which can perform the action (Eg. Gmail, Twittroid, Facebook...): public void share() { Intent shareIntent = new Intent(android.content.Intent.ACTION_SEND); shareIntent.setType("text/plain"); shareIntent.putExtra(android.content.Intent.EXTRA_SUBJECT, getText(R.string.menu_share_subject)); shareIntent.putExtra(android.content.Intent.EXTRA_TEXT, getText(R.string.menu_share_body)); startActivity(Intent.createChooser(shareIntent, getText(R.string.menu_share_intent))); } The sharing functionality works basically. But when the sharing app (Facebook, Twitter, ...) tries to return to my app, a force close is thrown. I guess that my app gets closed in the background during the sharing process... at least that is what the debugger sais... Any ideas?

• mod_rewrite with question marks and ampersands (with PHP)

  I have a PHP-based web app that I'm trying to apply Apache's mod_rewrite to. Original URLs are of the form: http://example.com/index.php?page=home&x=5 And I'd like to transform these into: http://example.com/home?x=5 Note that while rewriting the page name, I'm also effectively "moving" the question mark. When I try to do this, Apache happily performs this translation: RewriteRule ^/([a-z]+)\?(.+)$ /index.php?page=$1&$2 [NC,L] But it messes up the $_GET variables in PHP. For example, a call to http://example.com/home?x=88 yields only one $_GET variable (page => home). Where did x => 88 go? However, when I change my rule to use an ampersand rather than a question mark: RewriteRule ^/([a-z]+)&(.+)$ /index.php?page=$1&$2 [NC,L] a call like http://example.com/home&x=88 will work just as I'd expect it to (i.e. both the page and x $_GET variables are set appropriately). The difference is minimal I know, but I'd like my URL variables to "start" with a question mark, if it's possible. I'm sure this reflects my own misunderstanding of how mod_rewrite redirects interact with PHP, but it seems like I should be able to do this (one way or another). Thanks in advance! Cheers, -Chris

I tried many ways, like: render :file => "/banners/somebanner.html" But it can't locate the file, because Rails looks under app/views. Any ideas ? Thanks! • PHP Hashtable array optimisation.

  I made a PHP app which was taking about ~0.0070sec for execution. Now, I added a hashtable array with about 2000 values. Suddenly the time for execution has gone up to ~0.0700 secs. Almost 10 times the previous value. I tried commenting out the part where I was searching inside the hashtable array (but array was still left defined). Still, the execution time remains about ~0.0500secs. Array is something like: $subjectinfo = array( 'TPT753' => 'Industrial Training', 'TPT801' => 'High Polymeric Engineering', 'TPT802' => 'Corrosion Engineering', 'TPT803' => 'Decorative ,Industrial And High Performance Coatings', 'TPT851' => 'Project'); Is there any way to optimize this part? I cannot use Database as I am running this app on Google app engine which is still not supporting JDO database for php. • Android VideoView resume and seekTo

  I am playing a Video using a VideoView in my app. On the click of a button, it records the current position of the video, and the app opens up the browser with some url. On pressing the back button, the app comes back to video app and resumes the video from where it left off. I looked at the Android Activity lifecycle and saw that onStart() method gets called once the video activity comes to the foreground. So I am creating my layout in onStart() and playing the video by seeking to the current position. My problem is that when the video resumes, it buffers from the start and then seeks to. Since it already buffered the first time, is there a way to eliminate buffering again while doing a seekTo? Thanks Chris

  I'm seeing some unusual behavior when using the DataContractSerializer. I'm sending it an XML message that looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <order xmlns="http://example.com/v1/order> <store> ... </store> <orderHeader> ... </orderHeader> <payments> <payment> ... </payment> </payments> <shipments> <shipment> ... </shipment> </shipments> </order> My service deserializes this XML as expected. Inside my service, I'm using the DataContractSerializer to create an XML string and that's where things get weird. I'm using the serializer like this: DataContractSerializer serializer = new DataContractSerializer(typeof(MyOrder)); using (MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream()) { serializer.WriteObject(ms, order); ms.Position = 0; StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(ms); string outputMessage = sr.ReadToEnd(); } Once this finishes, the outputMessage contains the following XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <MyOrder xmlns="http://example.com/v1/order" xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <order> <store> ... </store> <orderHeader> ... </orderHeader> <payments> <payment> ... </payment> </payments> <shipments> <shipment> ... </shipment> </shipments> </order> </MyOrder> Needless to say, anything expecting to receive the original XML message will fail to parse this. So I guess I have two questions: Why is the DataContractSerializer adding the extra outer node to my XML output? Is there a way to stop it from doing this? Thanks.

I want to create a cookie with a part of the request url as in the following: RewriteRule ([0-9])/. - [CO=cookieName:$1:example.com] for example: If the request url is: http://www.example.com/1234, i want to set a cookie name "cookieName" with the value "1234" it seems no cookie is add when a dollar sign ($1) is between the cookie directive.   This is less a question and more a record of what I've found around the AVCam sample code provided by Apple for iOS4 and 5 camera manipulation. The symptoms of the problem for me were that my app would crash on launching the AVCamViewController after taking around 5-10 photos. I ran the app through the memory leak profiler and there were no apparent leaks but on inspection with the Activity Monitor I discovered that something called mediaserverd was increasing by 17Mb every time the camera was launched and when it reached ~100Mb the app crashed with multiple low memory warnings.

  I did a system test on a new ASP.NET app. I encountered several exceptions when using the BACK button in my browser (IE 7). I stated in a review-record that the web-app must support the use of a BACK button (or at least handle it gracefully with for example session-time out warnings). The teamlead did not agree with me as he stated that a web-app should not support working with the back-button by default. Do you agree?

• Alternative to Microsoft Agent / Fix for color issue?

  I've got an app that does Text-To-Speech; but I wanted to show an animated face/character to go with it. I found a tutorial on Microsoft Agent and I implemented it in my vb.net app. The problem is with the transparency color. Unless I run application in compatibility mode/256 colors, the characters will appear with a purplish-pink background image instead of a transparent back-color. But running the app in 256 colors the rest of the app looks awfully out of place. First - is there something that works similar to MS Agent I can use that would be more appropriate? Second - if I'm still MS Agent - can I get the transparent color to work correctly without limiting myself to 256 colors?

• Change a localized InfoPlist.strings using an Xcode target

  Here's an obscure problem. I'm using an InfoPlist.strings to localize my app name. It's only got one value: CFBundleDisplayName = "Mon App". The strings file is localized (putting it in a directory for that localization). I've just made an extra target, where I change things like the non-localized app name (different Info.plists), and the icon. I'm also changing the Default.png using a run script build phase (copying different files depending on the app type I'm building). I've tried using the script to copy different versions of my InfoPlist.strings, but I couldn't make it work. Here's what I used: if($TARGET_NAME == "MonApp")then cp fr.lproj/MonApp_InfoPlist.strings fr.lproj/InfoPlist.strings endif I've seen a post suggesting wincent strings util for processing strings, but wanted to see if there's an easy way to do this. Any help greatly appreciated.

• 301 Redirecting URLs based on GET variables in .htaccess

  I have a few messy old URLs like... http://www.example.com/bunch.of/unneeded/crap?opendocument&part=1 http://www.example.com/bunch.of/unneeded/crap?opendocument&part=2 ...that I want to redirect to the newer, cleaner form... http://www.example.com/page.php/welcome http://www.example.com/page.php/prices I understand I can redirect one page to another with a simple redirect i.e. Redirect 301 /bunch.of/unneeded/crap http://www.example.com/page.php But the source page doesn't change, only it's GET vars. I can't figure out how to base the redirect on the value of these GET variables. Can anybody help pls!? I'm fairly handy with the old regexes so I can have a pop at using mod-rewrite if I have to but I'm not clear on the syntax for rewriting GET vars and I'd prefer to avoid the performance hit and use the cleaner Redirect directive. Is there a way? and if not can anyone clue me in as to the right mod-rewrite syntax pls? Cheers, Roger.

  Symptoms In IIS Dot Net 2.0 Integrated app pool: double clicking to view any web.config section results in a the following error dialog. "There was an error while performing this operation.... Fielname... web.config... Error: There is a duplicate..." Browsing to the URL displays: "Http 500.19" internal server error.. There is a duplicate... 'system.web.extensions/scripting/scriptResourceHandler' section defined...." Running the app from VS 2008 an "Unable to start debugging on the web server..." dialog is displayed. Things Tried Looked at other application directories on same IIS server. No problem view web.config contents or serving up the app. Removed and re-added the application in IIS. Checked out a new version of the source code. Reverted to prior versions of the web.config file. Looked for web.config files that might have duplicate sections in: Inetpub root. "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config" The "Views" subfolder of the ASP.Net MVC app. Checked out source code to another dev machine. Setup IIS 7 app folder. No problem with Web.config. Question If the reason for this error is another web.config file where else should I look? Are there other reasons for these symptoms?

• How do I get a full Magento session in an external script? (Specifically, Catalog Rules)

  I'm running an external script that loads up a Magento session. Within that script, I'm loading products and grabbing a bunch of properties. The one issue is that getFinalPrice() does not apply the catalog rules that apply to the product. I'm doing everything I know to set the session, even a bunch of stuff that I think is superfluous. Nothing seems to get these rules applied.   My team is trying to setup an Apache reverse proxy from a customer's site into one of our web applications. http://www.example.com/app1/some-path maps to http://internal1.example.com/some-path Inside our application we use struts and have redirect = true set on certain actions in order to provide certain functionality. The 302 status messages from these re-directs cause the user to break out of the proxy resulting in an error page for the end user. HTTP/1.1 302 Found Location: http://internal.example.com/some-path/redirect Is there any way to setup the reverse proxy in apache so that the redirects work correctly? http://www.example.com/app1/some-path/redirect

• wx Menu disappears from frame when shown as a popup

  I'm trying to create a wx.Menu that will be shared between a popup (called on right-click), and a sub menu accessible from the frame menubar. The following code demonstrates the problem. If you open the "MENUsubmenu" from the menubar the item "asdf" is visible. If you right click on the frame content area, "asdf" will be visible from there as well... however, returning to the menubar, you will find that "MENUsubmenu" is vacant. • IIS 7.5 can't access file from managed code

  I am working on a project that is click-once deployed from an IIS 7.5 web server. After installing the parent application (i.e. setting up the IIS site) I am able to hit the url for the click-once app's config file from a remote box. HOWEVER, when I attempt to do the same thing from my app (and the stub app below), I get a 401 Unauthorized. What is the difference between hitting the URL from IE, and from a .NET app? The file and directory itself have full control granted to everyone on the webserver at the moment, and I am an admin on the box. We are using Windows Authentication with NTLM only.
