  • jQuery doesn't work in <head>?!

    - by Hanz
    This code is supposed to make a slideshow out of stacked list-elements (I commented out the CSS so I can see what's going on) by fading out the topmost elements until only the first one is visible, then fade in the topmost element and the rest and start anew. If I put the script below my content inside the <body> and throw out the $(function() { it works perfectly fine, but in the <head> nothing happens. I wrote this yesterday and today I still can't see the mistake, so I'm posting it here. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title></title> <style type="text/css"> ul { position: relative; } ul li { /*position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0;*/ } </style> <script src="jquery-1.5.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { var i = 0; var count = $('ul li').size(); function fade() { if (i < count-1) { $('ul li:nth-child('+(count-i)+')').fadeOut(300); i++; } else { $('ul li:nth-child('+count+')').fadeIn(300, function(){$('ul li').show();}); i = 0; } } $('button').click(function() { setInterval('fade()', 1000); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <button>Slideshow GO!</button> <ul id="slider"> <li><img src="1.jpg" /></li> <li><img src="2.jpg" /></li> <li><img src="3.jpg" /></li> <li><img src="4.jpg" /></li> </ul> </body> </html> Thanks

  • scrollable banner using buttons and mouse scroller

    - by Psinyee
    I'm creating a scrollable banner for my homepage with 'up' and 'down' button for user to scroll the banner. How do I make it so that the mouse scroller is able to scroll the banner too and also once I click on the down or up button the user will be able to see the transition of the banner scrolling upwards or downwards? scroll script: <script> var t = 0; function up() { t += 600; with(document.getElementById("contents")) { if (t > 0) t = 0; if(style) style.top = t + "px"; else setAttribute("style", "top: " + t + "px"); } } function down() { t -= 600; with(document.getElementById("contents")) { if(t < -clientHeight) t = -clientHeight; if(style) style.top = t + "px"; else setAttribute("style", "top: " + t + "px"); } } </script> scrollable banner: <table width="950px" height="600px"> <tr> <td valign="top"> <div id="scrollable" style="height:600px; width:950px"> <div id="contents" style="height:600px; width:950px"> <table bgcolor="#dcdcdc" width="950px" height="600px"> <tr> <td height="490px"></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="100px"><img src="images/banner_title.png"/></td> </tr> </table> <table bgcolor="#ffd07e" width="950px" height="600px"> <tr> <td height="490px"></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="100px"><img src="images/banner_title.png"/></td> </tr> </table> buttons: <table> <tr> <td width="30px"><a href="javascript:void(0)" onClick="up()"><img src="images/arrow_up.png"/></a></td> <td width="30px"><a href="javascript:void(0)" onClick="down()"><img src="images/arrow_down.png"/></a></td> </tr> </table>

  • js function to get filename from url

    - by Blankman
    Hi, I have a url like http://www.example.com/blah/th.html I need a javascript function to give me the 'th' value from that. All my urls have the same format (2 letter filenames, with .html extension). I want it to be a safe function, so if someone passes in an empty url it doesn't break. I know how to check for length, but I should be checking for null to right?

  • Redirect on a SWFObject when Full Screen is clicked?

    - by maguidhir
    I am using JavaScript to display a swf video, and I want to override the Full Screen button if possible, so that it redirects to another url instead of making the video full screen. Is there a parameter that I can pass to the SWFObject that will allow me to do this? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • JQuery: How do I perform a callback on JQuery once it's loaded?

    - by Teddyk
    I'm downloading JQuery asynchronously: function addScript(url) { var script = document.createElement('script'); script.src = url; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script); } addScript('jquery.js'); // non-jquery code ... // jquery specific code like: $()... As such - how do I call my JQuery specific code once JQuery is loaded (because since I'm downloading my JavaScript asynch - it's not blocking, which is good, but is trying to execute my JQuery specific code before JQuery has been loaded).

  • HTML5 Canvas + select / drag-and-drop features in a JS lib?

    - by István
    Hi, I'd like to use HTML5 Canvas, but I'd like to use it in terms of shapes, texts and curves, able to attach traditional DOM events like onClick or drag-and-drop functions. Is there any Javascript library that is able to do that for me? I've seen that gwt-canvas is close to this approach, but haven't looked it in details. Thanks, Istvan

  • Splitting a file before upload?

    - by Yevgeniy Brikman
    On a webpage, is it possible to split large files into chunks before the file is uploaded to the server? For example, split a 10MB file into 1MB chunks, and upload one chunk at a time while showing a progress bar? It sounds like JavaScript doesn't have any file manipulation abilities, but what about Flash and Java applets? This would need to work in IE6+, Firefox and Chrome. Update: forgot to mention that (a) we are using Grails and (b) this needs to run over https.
