  • Is there a java library equivalent to `file` command in unix

    Is there any java libraries that is similar to unix's command file? ie: $ file somepicture.png somepicture.png PNG image, 805 x 292, 8-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced The file command is such a nice tool. I need something that can tell me if the file is really what I want it to be. (ie a picture, document etc) I know I can run the command file, but I am looking for a java library, not running the actual unix command.

I'm trying to create a "simple" program that allows me to create a list of video files (Youtube video's to be precise) that are then run through by my program and converted any given format to pure MP3 audio. For this purpose I'm trying to use the BASS.dll and well it isn't going so well. I was wondering if anyone has used BASS to convert from one audio format to another? Or is there another library better suited for this?

    I've downloaded latest source from mono project, compiled it and everything works (c# projects, mod_mono, xsp) except vb.net. This is on CentOS 5, on Ubuntu 10.04 I installed mono packages via apt-get and vb.net just works. What am I missing, or how to get vb.net support?

  • Suggestions for library to hash passwords in JAVA

    What JAVA library should I be using to Hash passwords for storage in a database? I was hoping to just take the plain text password, add a random salt, then store the salt and the hashed password in the database. Then when a user wanted to log in, I could just take their submitted password, add the random salt from their account information, hash it and see if it equates to the stored hash password with their account information.

    I want to use asymmetric encryption of headers in RESTful requests to verify the identity of the system sending the request: i e System A encrypts it's name, timestamp, and the service name using it's public key in a request to System B. System B then uses the public key of System A to decrypt, proving the authenticity of the request. 1) Does php-mcrypt support this? 2) Has anyone benchmarked this type of operation?

    I'm looking for a library (or plugin) that help me create a slideshow where (besides the simple ordering of images) I'm able to define the beginning and ending positions (either X/Y, or Zooms) for a given image and the plugin animates the intervening steps between them. Flash has a number of tools/libs like this, i'm sure jQuery has seen similar. Ideally something that offers a range of easing effects as well.     Hi, I would like to bypass firefox anti-phishing support programatically. Not by disabling its safebrowsing option either manually or programmatically. Actually, when firefox loads a document, it makes a call to google to determine whether the requested site is phish or not. If I get when this happens, I can bypass it. Meaning that I would not allow firefox to show its error page. Can anyone show me the way? -Abhay

  • OpenCL C/C++ dynamic binding library (win32 and more)

    I'm giving a try at OpenCL, and in order to put this in production I'd like to be able to bind dynamically to OpenCL.DLL (when under Windows), in order to handle 'gracefully' the case where no OpenCL is installed on the host computer. Is there any available library (or code snippet) that takes care of this dynamic binding in C or C++, much like GLEW does for OpenGL ? I'd like to avoid the hassle to do it myself. Thanks,
