  • Referring to a specific place on page

    - by misha-moroshko
    I know that in Javascript document.location.href = "#my_id" tells the browser to display the same page starting from element with id="my_id". In this case, the address that appears in the address bar is in the following format: my_page_address#my_id Is this the only method to refer to a specific place on a page ? I'm looking for a method that will not show my_id in the address bar.

  • HTML5 Canvas + select / drag-and-drop features in a JS lib?

    - by István
    Hi, I'd like to use HTML5 Canvas, but I'd like to use it in terms of shapes, texts and curves, able to attach traditional DOM events like onClick or drag-and-drop functions. Is there any Javascript library that is able to do that for me? I've seen that gwt-canvas is close to this approach, but haven't looked it in details. Thanks, Istvan

  • HTTP DOM: request.use? Usage?

    - by Jim G.
    I'm looking at the following code block in javascript: var request = new Request(); if(request.Use()) // What exactly does this do? { // ...do stuff } else { // no ajax support? } I've never seen anyone invoke the request.Use() method. My Question: What exactly does request.Use() check? Does it in fact check for AJAX support? Can anyone redirect me to an online API reference?

  • How to program a text search and replace in PDF files

    - by rpilkey
    How would I be able to programmatically search and replace some text in a large number of PDF files? I would like to remove a URL that has been added to a set of files. I have been able to remove the link using javascript under Batch Processing in Adobe Pro, but the link text remains. I have seen recommendations to use text touchup, which works manually, but I don't want to modify 1300 files manually.

  • jQuery doesn't work in <head>?!

    - by Hanz
    This code is supposed to make a slideshow out of stacked list-elements (I commented out the CSS so I can see what's going on) by fading out the topmost elements until only the first one is visible, then fade in the topmost element and the rest and start anew. If I put the script below my content inside the <body> and throw out the $(function() { it works perfectly fine, but in the <head> nothing happens. I wrote this yesterday and today I still can't see the mistake, so I'm posting it here. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title></title> <style type="text/css"> ul { position: relative; } ul li { /*position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0;*/ } </style> <script src="jquery-1.5.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { var i = 0; var count = $('ul li').size(); function fade() { if (i < count-1) { $('ul li:nth-child('+(count-i)+')').fadeOut(300); i++; } else { $('ul li:nth-child('+count+')').fadeIn(300, function(){$('ul li').show();}); i = 0; } } $('button').click(function() { setInterval('fade()', 1000); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <button>Slideshow GO!</button> <ul id="slider"> <li><img src="1.jpg" /></li> <li><img src="2.jpg" /></li> <li><img src="3.jpg" /></li> <li><img src="4.jpg" /></li> </ul> </body> </html> Thanks

  • Web UI for inputting a function from the reals to the reals, such as a probability distribution.

    - by dreeves
    I would like a web interface for a user to describe a one-dimensional real-valued function. I'm imagining the user being presented with a blank pair of axes and they can click anywhere to create points that are thick and draggable. Double-clicking a point, let's say, makes it disappear. The actual function should be shown in real time as an interpolation of the user-supplied points. Here's what this looks like implemented in Mathematica (though of course I'm looking for something in javascript):

  • Track only iframe history

    - by evanwong
    I have a page which contains an iframe and I want to track the history of the iframe only. I tried to use the history object like this: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> function checkFrameHistory() { alert(window.frames["test2"].history.length); } function checkThisHistory() { alert(history.length); } </script> </head> <body> <iframe name="test2" src="test2.html"></iframe> <div> <input type="button" onclick="checkFrameHistory()" value="Frame history"/> <input type="button" onclick="checkThisHistory()" value="This history"/> </div> </body> </html> test2.html <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> function checkMyHistory() { alert(history.length); } </script> </head> <body> <div> Test2 </div> <div> <input type="button" onclick="checkMyHistory()" value="My history"/> </div> </body> </html> but it actually gave me the history including the parent window. For instance, I went to another site in the main window and came back to my iframe test site. Both window.frames["test2"].history.length and history.length still gave me the same count by increasing the length by 2. Did I do it wrong? Is there a way to track only the iframe history?

  • IE font size decrease does not cause select box height to decrease

    - by leaf dev
    I have a font resize function on my page which increases the font size via javascript for the entire page. This works fine in most browsers except IE. When decreasing the font size after increasing it, the select boxes new height does not decrease, even though the font size is decreasing on it. Instead the smaller font appears to be padded with white space. Any ideas as to what IE is doing here, and a work around?

  • How do you hide an image tag based on an ajax response?

    - by Chris
    What is the correct jquery statement to replace the "//Needed magic" comments below so that the image tags are hidden or unhidden based on the AJAX responses? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>JQuery</title> <style type="text/css"> .isSolvedImage{ width: 68px; height: 47px; border: 1px solid red; cursor: pointer; } </style> <script src="_js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"> </script> </head> <body> <div id='true1.txt' class='isSolvedImage'> <img src="_images/solved.png"> </div> <div id='false1.txt' class='isSolvedImage'> <img src="_images/solved.png"> </div> <div id='true2.txt' class='isSolvedImage'> <img src="_images/solved.png"> </div> <div id='false2.txt' class='isSolvedImage'> <img src="_images/solved.png"> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ var getDivs = 0; //iterate div with class isSolvedImage $("div.isSolvedImage").each(function() { alert('div id--'+this.id); // send ajax requrest $.get(this.id, function(data) { // check if ajax response is 1 alert('div id--'+this.url+'--ajax response--'+data); if(data == 1){ alert('div id--'+this.url+'--Unhiding image--'); //Needed magic //Show image if data==1 } else{ alert('div id--'+this.url+'--Hiding image--'); //Needed magic //Hide image if data!=1 } }); }); }); </script> </body> </html>

  • Simple jquery Fade Slideshow fails on certain browsers

    - by cmay
    So I have a simple slideshow on my website which just shows one image then shows another until it reaches the end or the user hits skip in which case it shows index.html. The site is served on apache2 with Django. The slideshow works perfectly on most machines, but certain machines it shows some images twice and other images not at all and the timing is off. I am using jquery 1.4.3. Below is the section of html where I push the image urls from the database to the javascript {% for image in latest_images %} {% thumbnail image.image_file "800x600" crop="center" as im %} <script>FadeImageList.push("{{im.url}}");</script> {% endthumbnail %} {% endfor %} Below is the full javascript file var FadeImageList = []; var fadeDuration = 2000; var fadeImgID = '#slideShow'; var homePageID = '#homePage'; var menuID = '#menu'; var skipFlag = 0; $(document).ready(function(){ $(homePageID).fadeOut(50); PlaySlideshow(FadeImageList); }); var PlaySlideshow = function(FadeImageList){ var newImgSrc = FadeImageList.shift(); $('#skip').click(function(){$('#loader').show();skipFlag = 1;}); if(((typeof(newImgSrc) !== "string") || (skipFlag === 1))){ EndSlideShow(); return; } else{ $(fadeImgID).fadeOut(fadeDuration,function(){ $(fadeImgID).attr('src', newImgSrc); $(fadeImgID).fadeIn(fadeDuration,function(){ PlaySlideshow(FadeImageList); }); }); } }; var EndSlideShow = function(fadeSettings){ $(fadeImgID).fadeOut(400,function(){ $(homePageID).fadeIn(400); $("#skip").fadeOut(400); $('#loader').hide(); }); }; The strange thing is I've had it work and fail on identically version numbered browsers on the same os but on different machines. It consistently either works or fails on a machine. I've had it fail in ie 7,8 firefox 3.6.3 and chrome. I've also had it succeed in ie6,7,8 firefox 3.6.3,3.4.2,3.1 and chrome.

  • unobtrusive "default" text in input WITHOUT jQuery

    - by Adam Kiss
    Hello, i'm trying to write unobtrusive default/placeholder text in input (actually, relatively placed label over input, which hides on onFocus, and stays hidden if input isn't empty on onBlur), but I don't want to use jQuery, because this is the only javascript used on page - therefore using jQuery seems a bit over the top. Please, how can I do this without jQuery? Thank you.

  • Select options not showing in IE

    - by donkapone
    I have a dynamically generated select with some options and it shows the options fine in normal browsers, but its empty options in IE. Here's the generated HTML: <select name="0" id="custom_0" style="border-bottom: #c0cedb 1px solid; border-left: #c0cedb 1px solid; background-color: #ededed; width: 280px; font-size: 0.87em; border-top: #c0cedb 1px solid; border-right: #c0cedb 1px solid"> <option id="1000" value="0" name="00">1x2GB ECC DDRIII 2GB ECC DDRIII</option> <option id="1001" value="10" name="01">2x2GB ECC DDRIII 4GB ECC DDRIII (+10.00 €)</option> </select> I can't really show you the javascript, since there's so much of it and I would be able to make it simple just for a demo. Maybe you had some of you would've had a similar experience and could figure this one out. Thanks I've added some javascript: $('#custom_order').append('<tr id="custom_'+category+'_row"><td'+padding+'>'+header+'<select id="custom_'+category+'" name="'+category+'" style="background-color:#EDEDED;border:1px solid #C0CEDB;width:280px;font-size:0.87em"></select>'+plusspan+'</td></tr>'); for (var i=0;i<components[category]['value'].length;i++){ $('#custom_'+category).append('<option id="'+components[category]['value'][i]['id']+'" value="'+components[category]['value'][i]['price']+'"></option>'); removals(category,i); dependencies(category,i); selectInput(category); } getDiff(category); getDiff() function adds the values to the options with html() function. The weird thing is, if I alert the html of the option just after the getDiff() function, it shows the value filled out. And it I put the getDiff() function in the for loop where the options are generated, it fills the values and shows them in IE, just not the last one. I'm calling getDiff() outside the loop for optimization, and since I can add the values later after all the options are generated. Well at least I thought I could, since it works on Firefox and Chrome.
