• WPF: ListView inside LIstViewItem: How to support button_click

  Hi I have problem with using buttons that are placed in the itemtemplate of the listview which is placed in the itemtemplate of the outer listview. I'll try to simplify the code to show only the idea. I have a objects collection which looks like this: Main object contains a list of innerObjects. Every innerObject contains a list of objects that contain some strings. mainObject listItem innerListItem string string innerListItem string string listItem innerListItem string string I set a mainObject as a itemsSource to the ListView. This listView has a ItemTemplate. This ItemTemplate contains some buttons and inner ListView. Inner ListView also has the item template that contains a button (deleteButton). Pressing this deleteButton I want to delete items (innerListItem) for which this button was created. In fact, it does work for small files but I get HEAP CORRUPTION ERROR while working with bigger files. • What's the strangest corner case you've seen in C# or .NET?

  I collect a few corner cases and brain teasers and would always like to hear more. The page only really covers C# language bits and bobs, but I also find core .NET things interesting too. For example, here's one which isn't on the page, but which I find incredible: string x = new string(new char[0]); string y = new string(new char[0]); Console.WriteLine(object.ReferenceEquals(x, y)); I'd expect that to print False - after all, "new" (with a reference type) always creates a new object, doesn't it? The specs for both C# and the CLI indicate that it should. Well, not in this particular case. It prints True, and has done on every version of the framework I've tested it with. (I haven't tried it on Mono, admittedly...) Just to be clear, this is only an example of the kind of thing I'm looking for - I wasn't particularly looking for discussion/explanation of this oddity. (It's not the same as normal string interning; in particular, string interning doesn't normally happen when a constructor is called.) I was really asking for similar odd behaviour. Any other gems lurking out there?

  I thought I had a working solution for converting .mdi files to PDF using the Microsoft Office Document Imaging object model. The solution is in a Windows Service, but now I'm running into some errors that I'm having trouble tracking down info on. The exception I get is: The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)) System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80010105): The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)) at MODI.DocumentClass.Create(String FileOpen) at DocumentStore.Mdi2PDF(String path, String newPath) Then, in the Event Viewer there is the following Application error: Faulting application MyWindowsServiceName.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4b97f185, faulting module mso.dll, version 12.0.6425.1000, time stamp 0x49d65443, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000bd8e, process id 0xa5c, application start time 0x01cac08cf032914b. Here's the method that is doing the conversion: private int? I also built a a console apps converting hundreds of documents and DID NOT get the exception. So, it seems to be caused by creating too many instances of the MODI object, but only instantiated within a Service? Doesn't quite make sense. Anybody have any clues about these errors and how to debug them further?

  I'm in chapter 8 of Graham Hutton's Programming in Haskell and I'm copying the code and testing it in GHC. See the slides here: http://www.cis.syr.edu/~sueo/cis352/chapter8.pdf in particular slide 15 The relevant code I've copied so far is: type Parser a = String -> [(a, String)] pih_return :: a -> Parser a pih_return v = \inp -> [(v, inp)] failure :: Parser a failure = \inp -> [] item :: Parser Char item = \inp -> case inp of [] -> [] (x:xs) -> [(x,xs)] parse :: Parser a -> String -> [(a, String)] parse p inp = p inp sat :: (Char -> Bool) -> Parser Char sat p = do x <- item if p x then pih_return x else failure I have changed the name of the return function from the book to pih_return so that it doesn't clash with the Prelude return function. The errors are in the last function sat. I have copied this directly from the book. As you can probably see p is a function from Char to Bool (e.g. isDigit) and x is of type [(Char, String)], so that's the first error. Then pih_return takes a value v and returns [(v, inp)] where inp is a String. This causes an error in sat because the v being passed is x which is not a Char. I have come up with this solution, by explicitly including inp into sat sat :: (Char -> Bool) -> Parser Char sat p inp = do x <- item inp if p (fst x) then pih_return (fst x) inp else failure inp Is this the best way to solve the issue?

  I'm trying to set the default value for a Content Taxonomy field in a hook_form_alter, but can't pin down the necessary format. • Serial Communication between Java RXTX and Arduino

  I'm trying to communicate between my PC (Windows 7 using Netbeans and RXTX) with an Arduino Pro, using the serial port. The Arduino is actually connected to the PC using an FTDI cable. The code is based on the Java SimpleRead.Java found here. Currently the Arduino simply prints out a string when it starts up. My Java program should print the number of bytes that have been read and then print out the contents. The Java program works, sort of... If the string is long (10 bytes or so) the output will get broken up. So if on the Arduino I print Serial.println("123456789123456789"); //20 bytes including '\r' and '\n' The output of my Java program may look something like: Number of Bytes: 15 1234567891234 Number of Bytes: 5 56789 or Number of Bytes: 12 1234567891 Number of Bytes: 8 23456789 I'm thinking it's a timing problem, because when I manually go through the code using the debugger, the result string is always what it should be: one 20 byte string. I've been messing with various things but I haven't been able to fix the problem. • Fast way to get a list of group members in Active Directory with C#

  In a web app, we're looking to display a list of sam accounts for users that are a member of a certain group. Groups could have 500 or more members in many cases and we need the page to be responsive. With a group of about 500 members it takes 7-8 seconds to get a list of sam accounts for all members of the group. Are there faster ways? I know the Active Directory Management Console does it in under a second.   (Using VS 2010 Beta 2 - .Net 4.0 B2 Rel) I have a class, MyTable, derived from BindingList where S is a struct. S is made up of several other structs, for example: public class MyTable<S>:BindingList<S> where S: struct { ... } public struct MyStruct { public MyReal r1; public MyReal r2; public MyReal R1 {get{...} set{...}} public MyReal R2 {get{...} set{...}} ... } public struct MyReal { private Double d; private void InitFromString(string) {this.d = ...;} public MyReal(Double d) { this.d = d;} public MyReal(string val) { this.d = default(Double); InitFromString(val);} public override string ToString() { return this.real.ToString();} public static explicit operator MyReal(string s) { return new MyReal(s);} public static implicit operator String(MyReal r) { return r.ToString();} ... } OK, I use the MyTable as a binding source for a DataGridView. I can load the data grid easily using InitFromString on individual fields in MyStruct. The problem comes when I try to edit a value in a cell of the DataGridView. Going to the first row, first column, I change the value of the existing number. It gives an exception blizzard, the first line of which says: System.FormatException: Invalid cast from 'System.String' to 'MyReal' I've looked at the casting discussions and reference books but don't see any obvious problems. Any ideas?

• Unittesting Url.Action (using Rhino Mocks?)

  I'm trying to write a test for an UrlHelper extensionmethod that is used like this: Url.Action<TestController>(x => x.TestAction()); However, I can't seem set it up correctly so that I can create a new UrlHelper and then assert that the returned url was the expected one. This is what I've got but I'm open to anything that does not involve mocking as well. ;O) [Test] public void Should_return_Test_slash_TestAction() { // Arrange RouteTable.Routes.Add("TestRoute", new Route("{controller}/{action}", new MvcRouteHandler())); var mocks = new MockRepository(); var context = mocks.FakeHttpContext(); // the extension from hanselman var helper = new UrlHelper(new RequestContext(context, new RouteData()), RouteTable.Routes); // Act var result = helper.Action<TestController>(x => x.TestAction()); // Assert Assert.That(result, Is.EqualTo("Test/TestAction")); } I tried changing it to urlHelper.Action("Test", "TestAction") but it will fail anyway so I know it is not my extensionmethod that is not working. NUnit returns: NUnit.Framework.AssertionException: Expected string length 15 but was 0. Strings differ at index 0. Expected: "Test/TestAction" But was: <string.Empty> I have verified that the route is registered and working and I am using Hanselmans extension for creating a fake HttpContext. • Accessing a file on a network drive

  Hello. Background: I have an application that has to read from files on a network drive (Z:) This works great in my office domain, however it does not work on site (in a different domain). As far as I can tell the domain users and network drives are set in the same way, however I do not have access to users etc in the customers domain. When I couldn't access the network drive I figured I needed a token for a user. In my network the application can already access the network drive, and if I try to impersonate the active user (exactly the same user, including the same domain) it will not be able to access the network drive. This leaves me helpless since now I have no idea what works and what doesn't, and more to the point, will it work on site? What am I missing?
