  • Ruby does 'elseif' still exist

    - by catchmikey
I'm just learning ROR and I came across the if / else statements. I also came across 'elseif' but my text editor (textmate) doesn't pick it up as a keyword, not does the program run properly. if name == 'Chris' puts 'What a lovely name.' elseif name == 'Katy' puts 'What a lovely name!' end I'm using the book, Learn to Program, which was written several years ago. I was wondering if the 'elseif' was changed because when I simply use 'else' it seems to function properly

  • How active record is automatically setting up the autoincremental value of ID?

    - by piemesons
Here this is what we are doing:-- an_order = Order.new an_order.name = "Dave Thomas" an_order.email = "[email protected]" an_order.address = "123 Main St" an_order.pay_type = "check" an_order.save Now it will insert a new row in orders table right. I m having a ID column in that table. Now suppose after inserting this record the value of the ID corresponding to this record is 100. Now how this 100 value came to know? Does the previous value of ID ie 99 (Suppose) is stored somewhere in some variable/file in the ORM layer or before inserting this value a query was fired to know about the last inserted value or database is itself doing that or anything else???

  • Debugging Actionmailer

    - by Trip
I have actionmailer set up. Emails are not being sent, and no errors. Where can I start my search to debug this? class Notifier < ActionMailer::Base default_url_options[:host] = APP_DOMAIN def email_blast(user, subject, message) subject subject from NOTIFIER_EMAIL recipients user.email sent_on Time.zone.now body :user => user.first_name + ' ' + user.last_name, :message => message end I do get a return in my log that the email was sent, just no actual email goes through. Also the reason, that this is not working is because I switched form a cluster to a solo box and some server settings were overwritten. I suspect that is probably the reason why this is not working. Anyone know what specific server settings I would have to look at ? UPDATE: ActionMailer::Base.delivery_method = :sendmail config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => "75.101.153.93" } I found this in my production.rb . This code was originally here when it worked. Again, I believe that there must be something missing on my server..I did a 'which sendmail' and it returned /usr/bin/sendmail , so I added this : config.action_mailer.raise_delivery_errors = false config.action_mailer.perform_deliveries = true config.action_mailer.sendmail_settings = { :location => '/usr/bin/sendmail', :arguments => '-i -t' } Redeployed, restarted the server, and tested it. No emails were sent. The production.log said something was sent : Processing MediaController#create_a_video (for 173.161.167.41 at 2010-06-03 11:58:13) [GET] Parameters: {"action"=>"create_a_video", "controller"=>"media", "organization_id"=>"470", "_"=>"1275591493194"} Sent mail to [email protected] Rendering media/create_a_video Completed in 128ms (View: 51, DB: 1) | 200 OK [http://invent.hqchannel.com/organizations/470/media/create_a_video?_=1275591493194]

  • CarrierWave and nested forms saving empty image object if photo :title is included in form

    - by Wasabi Developer
I'm after some advice in regards to handling nested form data and I would be ever so grateful for any insights. The trouble is I'm not 100% sure why I require the following code in my model accepts_nested_attributes_for :holiday_image, allow_destroy: true, :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } If I don't understand why I require to tact on on my accepts_nested_attributes_for association: :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } If I remove this :reject_if lambda, it will save a blank holiday photo object in the database. I presume because it takes the :title field from the form as an empty string? I guess my question is, am I doing this right or is there a better way of this this within nested forms if I want to extend my HolidayImage model to include more strings like description, notes? Sorry If I can't be more succinct. My simple holiday app. # holiday.rb class Holiday < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :holiday_image accepts_nested_attributes_for :holiday_image, allow_destroy: true, :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } attr_accessible :name, :content, :holiday_image_attributes end I'm using CarrierWave for image uploads. # holiday_image.rb class HolidayImage < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :holiday attr_accessible :holiday_id, :image, :title mount_uploader :image, ImageUploader end Inside my _form partial there is a field_for block <h3>Photo gallery</h3> <%= f.fields_for :holiday_image do |holiday_image| %> <% if holiday_image.object.new_record? %> <%= holiday_image.label :title, "Image Title" %> <%= holiday_image.text_field :title %> <%= holiday_image.file_field :image %> <% else %> Title: <%= holiday_image.object.title %> <%= image_tag(holiday_image.object.image.url(:thumb)) %> Tick to delete: <%= holiday_image.check_box :_destroy %> <% end %> Thanks again for your patience.

  • Updating a gridview based on dundas chart callback

    - by Daud
I have a dundas pie chart which when clicked issues a client callback which updates another chart associated with it. Basically its like a drill down thing. I also want to update my gridview based on the user's selection of the pie. But since the update of chart is being done using dundas client callback I'm unable to rebind my Gridview. Is there any way to do it? .

  • Passing single attributes to associated factories

    - by lambdabutz
I'm looking for a way to pass fields into the factories of associated models without having to explicitly call the factory itself. For example, lets say I have some factories like so: Factory.define :person do |person| person.name "Default Bob" person.sex "M" person.house {|p| p.association(:house)} end Factory.define :house do |house| house.color "Red" house.has_ac true house.suburb {|h| h.association(:suburb)} end Factory.define :suburb do |suburb| suburb.name "Little boxes" end This is fine and all, but if I want to use factories to create someone in a specific house in a specific suburb I have do this: sub = Factory(:suburb, :name => "Blue town") house = Factory(:house, :color => "Blue", :suburb => sub) person = Factory(:person, :name => "Bill", :house => house) While this isn't bad in this small case, my actual models sometimes have 7 or 8 associations, and when I want to create an object whose associations I only care about a single attribute, the code for this starts to get really heavy. Is there somewhat I can pass attributes to nested Factories without having to recall the Factory itself?

  • What's the easiest way to use OAuth with ActiveResource?

    - by Barry Hess
I'm working with some old code and using ActiveResource for a very basic Twitter integration. I'd like to touch the app code as little as possible and just bring OAuth in while still using ActiveResource. Unfortunately I'm finding no easy way to do this. I did run into the oauth-active-resource gem, but it's not exactly documented and it appears to be designed for creating full-on API wrapper libraries. As you can imagine, I'd like to avoid creating a whole Twitter ActiveResource API wrapper for this one legacy change. Any success stories out there? In my instance, it might be quicker to just leave ActiveResource rather than get this working. I'm happy to be proven wrong!

  • Headers on the second row in FasterCSV?

    - by Schroedinger
G'day guys, I'm currently using fasterCSV to parse a CSV file in ruby, and wondering how to get rid of the initial row of data on a CSV (The initial row contains the time/date information generated by another software package) I tried using fasterCSV.table and then deleting row(0) then converting it to a CSV document then parsing it but the row was still present in the document. Any other ideas? fTable = FasterCSV.table("sto.csv", :headers => true) fTable.delete(0)

  • Ruby is already using the class name of my model

    - by Octopus Inc
I'm making a forum application with various levels of authorization, one of which is a Monitor. I am doing this by extending my User class, and I plan on fine tuning this with "-ship" classes (e.g. administratorship, authorship, moderatorship, etc.). Apparently the Monitor class is part of ruby mixin. How do I keep my resource name without the collisions?

  • 'script/console test' with spork and rspec not loading the whole environment?

    - by TheDeeno
I'm trying to load up console to interact with some of my rspec mocking helpers. I expected that running script/console test would load an env similar to when I run spec. However, this doesn't appear to be the case. It looks like spec_helper is never loaded. Or, if it is, it's not actually running through the logic because spork has polluted it a bit. In short, is there a quick and easy way to get an interactive rspec party going?

Peace! i created a gridview and ive bended the data using a ObjectDataSource, for some reasons i created the CRUD methods to do the work instead of using the CRUD method generated by the LINQDataSource; everything is just working fine but the update method, when i update a row in my gridview everything become as if there isnt any update! but when i check the database i can see that the rows is been updated! i can't find a solution (yet) to this issue. i'am using the updatepanel to have the autopostback without refreshing the page. thank you
