Testing objects for changes

I have an application that needs to determine whether a user has made a change to an object. So, when the object is first loaded, I create a deep copy (using serialization/deserialization) and save the copy to a separate field. The copy becomes myCurrentObject, and the original becomes myOriginalObject. Now I need to test myCurrentObject for changes, which I plan to do by comparing it to myOriginalObject. All I need is a boolean result indicating whether any changes have been made. I have already determined that a simple hashcode comparison won't work. GetHashCode() generates different results for the two objects, even when there are no changes. I am getting ready to write a method to do a property-by-property comparison, but before I do, I thought I would check to see if there is a simpler and more reusable way to test myCurrentObject to see if it has changed from myOriginalObject. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

How do I mock memory allocation failures ?

I want to extensively test some pieces of C code for memory leaks. On my machine I have 4 Gb of RAM, so it's very unlikely for a dynamic memory allocation to fail. Still I want to see the comportment of the code if memory allocation fails, and see if the recover mechanism is "strong" enough. What do you suggest ? How do I emulate an environment with lower memory specs ? How do i mock my tests ? EDIT: I want my tests to be code independent. I only have "access" to return values for different functions in the library I am testing. I am not supposed to write "test logic" inside the code I am testing.

Drupal Imagecache not working

I created an Imagecache setting that just resizes to 125px wide. First issue is that the preview image is 404. Then I want to print out an image via <?php print theme('imagecache', 'imported_image', $node->picture, 'test', 'test', $attributes); ?> 'imported_image' being the preset and $node-picture is a correct path. The html prints out ok but the path it's trying load the image from does not exist. In sites/default/files/imagecache there is no folder with the name of the preset. Flushing the preset does nothing. The imagecache folder is writeable by everyone. This is on MAMP. Anyone know what the issue could be?

MS SQL: Mitigating schema changes/upgrades

I haven't spent a ton of time researching this yet, mostly looking for best practices on upgrading/changing DB schemas. We're actively developing a new product and as such we often have additions or changes to our DB schema. We also have many copies of the DB -- one for the test environment, one for the prod environment, dev environments, you name it. We don't really want to have to blow away test data every time we want to make a change to the DB. s Are there good ways of automating this or handling this? None of us have really ever had to deal with this so...

Relying on AppDomain.IsDefaultAppDomain()

I have a component which should be initialized in a certain way ONLY on the main AppDomain. On other AppDomains, it is initialized as a proxy to the object that lives in the main appdomain. The component uses AppDomain.Current.IsDefaultAppDomain() to determine whether it is on the main appdomain or not. My problem is that when running unit tests (NUnit), this method returns false, as the test runner initializes my test classes in a different app domain, causing the tests to not behave right. How can this be resolved?

Ant ignores attempt to override the LANG environment variable

We need to test a java build with the languages set to different values. I can manually (i.e. via export LANG=en_DK.UTF-8 and export LANG=en_DK) test that the unit tests run with the ant build script behaves differently, but I need to set the environment variable from ant. I have tried setting it using these methods (with the shell $LANG set to en_DK.UTF-8): using -D on the command line: ant -DLANG=en_DK using a build.properties file with the line LANG=en_DK in it using the following statements in the build.xml file (sorry for the formatting, I can't get SO to display it otherwise): : <property environment="ANTENV"/> <property name="ANTENV.LANG" value="en_DK"/> Using any of the three possibilities, and when run with -debug, ant reports that: Override ignored for property "LANG" What can I do to set the LANG environment variable from within ant?

cant populate cells with an array when i have loaded a second UITableViewController

Regex-expression with danish characters

I'm currently trying to wrap my head around regex, I have a validation snippet that tests an input box against a regex-expression: $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); That works well, but when I try to add a space and some special danish characters, it doesn't filter the danish characters, only the space. $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z æøåÆØÅ]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); Any ideas to what could be wrong?

How do I get the XAML compiler to use textual content property on custom classes?

Hello, I've been looking into custom event (listeners) for quite some time, but never succeeded in making one. There are so many different mehods, extending the Event class, but also Extending the EventDispatcher class, very confusing! Linking buttion to jQuery through service

I have a small problem that should be very easy to overcome. For some reason I cant work this out. So the problem is I cannot get a button to link to some jquery. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my IL code here? I get a NullReferenceException. My DynamicMethod's signature is: public delegate void DynamicWrite(IMyXmlWriter writer, ref object value, MyContract contract); And I'm definitely not passing in anything null. Thanks in advance!

Any ideeas?

Problem with CommandFinder class...

and I'm not sure why... Hello Everbody! I'm trying to make my first steps with SWTBot. I'm trying to test an Eclipse RCP Application. In one test i'm trying to call a command to save a dirty editor. But an assertion after the call, tells me that the editor is still dirty. An the data in the dirty editor is not showing up in the database. On the other hand, i'm not getting an Exception when calling the command... new CommandFinder().findCommand(CoreMatchers.equalTo(COMMANDNAME_SAVE)).get(0).click(); Has anyone any insperation for me, where i made a mistake?

How to specify character encoding for Ant Task parameters in Java

I'm writing an ANT task in Java. In my build.xml I specify parameters, which should be read from my java class. Problems occur, when I use special characters, like german umlauts (Ö,Ä,Ü) in these parameters. In my java task they appear as ?-characters (using System.out.print). All my files are encoded as UTF-8. and my build.xml has the corresponding declaration: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> For the details of writing the task: I do it according to http://ant.apache.org/manual/develop.html (especially Point 5 nested elements). I have nested elements in my task like: <parameter name="test" value="ÖÄÜtest"/> and a java method: public void addConfiguredParameter(Parameter prop) { System.out.println(prop.getValue()); //prints ???test } to read the parameter values.

Pass associative arrays in call_user_func_array(...)

Hey all, I'm building a templating system and I'm running in to an issue with calling functions on the fly. When I try the following: $args = array( 4, 'test' => 'hello', 'hi' ); You know.. some numerical elements some associative elements, call_user_func_array($function, $args); converts the array to something like this: $args = array( 4, 'hello', 'hi' ); Is there any way around this other than passing an array like this: $args = array( 4, array('test' => 'hello'), 'hi' ); Thanks! JUnit - stop it from exiting on finish?

Hi guys, Quick JUnit question. I'm running some unit tests that involve starting up the GUI and doing a load of stuff. I would like to see the results after the test to confirm it visually. However, it gets to the end of the code and exits, as it should. If I want to override this, I put a breakpoint on the last line of the test. This is pretty awkward though. Is there some option to stop it from exiting?

NO FBML is working in iframe in facebook using PHP (ie or ff or anywhere else!)

I have tried for three days now and gotten nowhere on this.... I absolutely can not get any "fb:" code to render anything! I've tried the exact code in the sandbox and it works fine. I've read through every search result I could find and gotten nowhere... Why is the event object different coming from jquery bind vs. addEventListener

Why is it when I use the jQuery bind the event object I get back is different from the event object I get back using addEventListener? The event object resulting from this jQuery bind does not have the targetTouches array (among other things) but the event from the addEventListener does. NUnit not running Suite tests

I've created a test suite in NUnit that references several distinct unit test fixtures in various assemblies. How do I get the XAML comiler to use textual content property on custom classes?

Given a simple C# class definition like: [System.Windows.Markup.ContentProperty("PropertyOne")] public class SimpleBase { public string PropertyOne { get; set; } public string PropertyTwo { get; set; } } why is it not possible to ommit the sys:string tags around the word Test in the xaml below. <custom:SimpleBase x:Class="TestType" xmlns:custom="clr-namespace:ConsoleApplication1;assembly=" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:sys="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorlib"> <sys:String>Test</sys:String> </custom:SimpleBase> Somehow the compiler correctly coverts text to string for the type String, why doesn't it work for my custom type? Why can't I use an Action to a ThreadStart?

Both are delegates and have the same signature, but I can not use Action as ThreadStart. Why? Action doIt; doIt = () => MyMethod("test"); Thread t; t = new Thread(doIt); t.Start(); but this seams to work: Thread t; t = new Thread(() => MyMethod("test")); t.Start();
