• Overnight SQL Server Full Backup taking 4x longer, everything else slower, RAID problem?

  Sql Server on Windows Server 2008: Overnight, fullbackups taking 7-10 hours instead of 1-3 transaction logs taking 4-5 minutes instead of 1 minute Query optimization taking 3x longer I'm feeling like a disk in my Raid Array (raid5) is faulty or the raid controller or network card, Rackspace is telling me everything is fine. • Setting up a linked server to another server which isn’t in a domain without using SQL authenticatio

  Server A (SQL2005) is in our primary domain, but server B (SQL2000) is just in a windows workgroup. We are not allowed to join it to the domain, or bad things happen... We also can't enable SQL authentication on server B. We've got domain accounts for A, and matching local accounts on server B. I can connect to B from my local PC or A using SSMS and a domain login, but I can't get the linked server to connect. Any ideas how to do this?

Process Explorer reports that it has a virtual Size of 1.5 GB. I want to uninstall this, but I'm not sure if there are any other processes dependent on this.

• How can a cached query take 2500 ms on a Sql Server 2008?

  How is it possible that a cached query could take that long. With cache cleared it takes 25000 ms (I know that's just way too long but that's not the issue here). Once it is cached, it takes 2500 ms. What could be the problem here? If it's cached, I assume Sql Server gets it out of the RAM. So, again, 2500ms???

• What is the best powershell script to restore an SQL Database?

  To restore an SQL Server 2008 database, I would lile to be able to just do something like this in powershell: ./restore.ps1 DatabaseName.bak Then the powershell script would by convention restore it to a database with name "DatabaseName". It would disconnect any user connected to this database so that it can restore the DB. It would store the mdf and ldf in the default location. This would mainly be while developing on my personal machine. Just a quick way to restore a DB. Anyone has such a script? Thanks

• Is there a rule to define a primary key on a sql-Server table for access with MS-Access?

  Defining some Tables in SQL-Server which will be accessed via ODBC from MS-Access. I'm not sure about it, put i read somewhere that a primary key must bee named with 'aaaaaPK_ColumnName'. The 5 'a' should manage that the PK is listed first in the dialog for all key's in MS-Access. What do you think about that?

• What is Apache Synapse?

  My website keeps getting hit by odd requests with the following user-agent string: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; Synapse) Using our friendly tool Google I was able to determine this is the hallmark calling-card of our friendly neighborhood Apache Synapse. A 'Lightweight ESB (Enterprise Service Bus)'. Now, based on this information I was able to gather, I still have no clue what this tool is used for. All I can tell is that is has something to do with Web-Services, and supports a variety of protocols. The Info page only leads me to conclude it has something to do with proxies, and web-services. The problem I've run into is that while normally I wouldn't care, we're getting hit quite a bit by Russian IPs (not that russian's are bad, but our site is pretty regionally specific), and when they do they're shoving wierd (not xss/malicious at least not yet) values into our query string parameters. Things like &PageNum=-1 or &Brand=25/5/2010 9:04:52 PM. Before I go ahead and block these ips/useragent from our site, I'd like some help understanding just what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
