• Checking for reciprocal relationships in mysql. A trivial one table problem.

  I have a mysql table that stores relationships. Items can be related to another item in one direction, or both items can be related to each other. I want to return all items related to my primary item - but I also want to check to see if the related item has a 'reverse relationship' to the current item and show this as a boolean |--------------|---------------| | SKU | related_SKU | |--------------|---------------| | 0001 | 0099 | | 0002 | 0099 | | 0099 | 0001 | |--------------|---------------| If I want to get all relationships for SKU=0001 SELECT related_SKU from relationships where SKU='0001' returns |--------------| | related_SKU | |--------------| | 0099 | |--------------| but what I want is |--------------|---------------| | related_SKU | reciprocal | |--------------|---------------| | 0099 | 1 | |--------------|---------------| or SELECT related_SKU from relationships where SKU='0002' |--------------|---------------| | related_SKU | reciprocal | |--------------|---------------| | 0099 | 0 | |--------------|---------------| What's the best way to do this?

If yes, then isn't it a bad idea using linq to sql instead of normal SqlCommand ? Or is there any other way of doing it in linq to sql ? When I attach Console.Out, I see nothing(command prompt does not even open). But when I include following:- context.Log = new System.IO.StreamWriter("d:\\abcd.txt"); I get an error, that "The process can not access the file because it is being used by another process" and that process is "w3wp.exe". How can I see the sql commands being executed by DataContext then ?

  Hi, Could you please help me,I have an application, in which I do a BULK INSERT the contents of a csv file into a table through stored procedure, the stored Procedure uses BULK INSERT (SQL Server 2005). This Works fine in a standalone system. However when I use the same in a multitier (Web server, Application Server and DB Server) architecture it is throwing 4861 error. Could you please help? The Files are stored in the Web Server. The Translated error message below: " Error – 2147217900:4861: Since it can not be opened for the file \Servername\c$\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3\file.csv, It can not be loaded with large capacity.   Hi folks. I have a table and one of the columns holds web addresses like: 'http://...' or 'https://...'. The problem is that there are some invalid entries, like 'shttp://...' or '#http//...' (the first character is invalid) and I want to correct all of them. I use the following SQL statement: 'SELECT [...] FROM MyTable WHERE WebAddress LIKE '_http%' and I successfuly get the problematic rows. But how am I going to change/correct all of them using an UPDATE statement? If you have some other solution please share it!

The setup is exceedingly simple: Two SQL Express 2008 servers The scope includes the entire database Using Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 Synchronizing by direct access. Using the standard new SqlSyncProvider Do I make the structural changes at both ends? Or do I only change one server and let Sync Framework somehow propagate the change? Do I need to delete the _tracking tables and/or the stored procedures? How about the triggers? Has anyone been using the Sync Framework? Please help.

  I want a single startup view with a button and a welcome screen. When the button is pressed I then want to navigate to a second view which contains a table view and toolbar. I've tried creating a ViewController but my button is shown on all views. I just want a single view, then when it's pressed i go to the next view and the 'real' app starts.   Just wondering if there is a way to take some of the repitition out of a LINQ to SQL projected type.   I am looking for a way to use l2s to return ranked result based on keywords. I would like to take a keyword and be able to search the table for that keyword using .contains(). The trick that I haven't been able to figure out is how to get a count of how many times that keyqord appears, and then .OrderByDescending() based on that count. So essentially I want to make a statistic of what my website users use as an email host website. but like I said and I will repeat the third time, I do not know every mailhost that exists. I am going to investigate this more, I have a feeling this is something mysql cannot handle.

The problem is that I don't know how to retrieve them. How do I get the value of uri and store it as a var? And better yet, how do I get, for exmaple, values of id 1 and 4 only without making a query each time? (I assume multiple queries are useless and a pretty ugly method.) I know the question is pretty basic but I'm lost here. I'd really appreciate your answer!

• How would you create a notification system like on SO or Facebook in RoR?

  I'm thinking that notifications would be it's own resource and have a has_many, through relationship with the user model with a join table representing the associations. A user having many notifications is obvious, and then a notification would have many users because there would be a number of standardized notifications (a commenting notification, a following notification etc.) that would be associated with many users. Beyond this setup, I'm unsure how to trigger the creation of notifications based on certain events in your application. I'm also a little unsure of how I'd need to set up routing - would it be it's own separate resource or nested in the user resource? I'd find it very helpful if someone could expand on this. Lastly, ajax polling would likely improve such a feature. There's probably some things I'm missing, so please fill this out so that it is a good general resource.

  Hi, I am trying create an accordion type of uitableviewcell that, when the user selects the cell, it expands to display a detailed info view inline similar to how the digg app works. I initially tried replacing the current tablecell with a customcell in cellForRowAtIndex however the animation looks a bit choppy as you can see the cell being replaced and overall the effect doesnt work to well. If you look at the digg app and others who have done this it seems that they arent replacing the current cell but instead perhaps adding a subview to the cell? The original cell however doesnt seem to animate at all and only the new view accordions into the table. Does anyone have any ideas how to accomplish a similar effect?

I have a query: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); This was generating an error: "A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type" This prompted this code which worked fine in L2S: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); foreach (User u in UserList){ u.Subscriptions = null; } return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); How can i stop EF from looking into the Subscriptions table, i just want the Userlist, none of the related properties and the above example does not seem to work for this. Which state mechanism can i use for this to retain. I have tried both Session and ViewState but ViewState can't use with AJAX rich appplications. • SQL: Is it quicker to insert sorted data into a table?

  A table in Sybase has a unique varchar(32) column, and a few other columns. It is indexed on this column too. At regular intervals, I need to truncate it, and repopulate it with fresh data from other tables. insert into MyTable select list_of_columns from OtherTable where some_simple_conditions order by MyUniqueId If we are dealing with a few thousand rows, would it help speed up the insert if we have the order by clause for the select? If so, would this gain in time compensate for the extra time needed to order the select query? I could try this out, but currently my data set is small and the results don't say much.
