    I'm in the process of learning Scala and I came across a scenario today where I need to map multiple functions over a single piece of data and wondered if there was a formal name for this. It sort of feels like the inverse of map. I'm not sure this is the correct way of expressing it, but this is what I did: dmap(x: Object, fns: List[Function]) = fns.map(_(x)) Is there a built in way to do something similar? Is there a formal name for this function?

    I've been reading this: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/797010#answer-193690 But it looks like it only applies to running multiple versions of Firefox when it's Firefox 4. I need to run Firefox but it seems like a lot of my clients are still running versions of Firefox 3 (is this an operating system issue? Doesn't Firefox auto-update?) so I need to run 3 plus the latest version to troubleshoot some css issues...

  • Oracle VM repository creation seems contradictory to its server pool?

    I found something contradictory in Oracle VM. Clustered server pool creation in Oracle VM would format my FC LUN as ocfs2 , and start o2cb & ocfs2 services to build cluster environment. After that, when I wanted to create repository on the serverpool, unexpectedly, it told me that the physical disk I chose which is also my FC LUN, already contains a file system. What a contradictory! So what, delete the file system in serverpool? If so, why created it before?!     I have a notebook with a bad HDD (it has bad sectors). I would like make a virtual disk with VMware workstation from this computer. I installed VMware Workstation & VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client on this notebook, then I used virtualize a physical machine. It started procedure but at 38% I got this error: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'BlockLevelVolumeCloneMgr::CloneVolume: Detected a write error during the cloning of volume \WindowsBitmapDriverVolumeId=[39-06-3A-06-00-02-13-4C-1D-00-00-00]. Error: 209 (type: 1, code: 13)' I Googled it and I think it means that I have bad sectors on the HDD. How can I solve this problem and make a virtual machine from HDD with bad sectors?

    I have a brand new clean machine with Windows 7 Professional 64bit and I've installed the patch that adds Windows Virtual PC (Windows6.1-KB958559-x64). I then go to Windows Virtual PC, create a new Virtual Machine. As soon as go to settings and try to map the VM DVD drive to the host's DVD drive I get "File may be in use by another process or you may not have sufficient access privilege". I am an administrator in that box... What am I missing?

    I have tried sudo sh -c 'echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches' sudo echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches and a bunch of other variations but with every try I get bash: /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches: Permission denied How do I clear the ram used for buffers/cache in my centos6 openvz container? It seems like the only way to do what I need is to reboot the container.

  • Problem booting virtual machine after converting VMDK to VHD

    I used the VMWare VCenter Converter Standalone Client to convert a physical drive on my old PC to a virtual drive. The conversion worked fine and I ended up with a valid VMDK file. Next, I wanted to convert the VMDK to a VHD for use with Microsoft Virtual PC, since that's what I use on my new box. I used WinImage for the conversion and that worked fine, too. I can access the files from the virtual drive through WinImage. However, when I create a new virtual machine using Virtual PC and add the existing VHD file, the machine doesn't boot. The initial boot screen flashes with the amount of RAM and then the screen goes black. If I turn off the VM and reboot in safe mode I can see the drivers being loaded until eventually it gets to crcdisk.sys and hangs indefinitely. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm not opposed to starting over from scratch if there's another method to turn my physical machine into a Virtual PC VM. Thanks! EDIT - I should add that the virtual drive is a system boot drive and not a secondary drive. EDIT - I tried booting from the install CD and doing a repair. The result was that the system could not be repaired due to a "driver error."

    I am trying to set up a test installation of Openstack on a Ubuntu 12.04 VM running on a ESXi server. So far I have been able to launch the VMs on the ESXi, however am unable to assign IP addresses to them. As the VM with the Openstack installation has a single public IP, I wish to assign IPs to the VMs create through Openstack so that they can directly interact with the public network itself without having a separate private network. So I feel that bridging would not be the correct option here. But am unable to find the correct documents to go ahead with such an install.     I have downloaded a Xen virtual machine image from the appscale project, and I am trying to start it up.   • Need a VM for running a PHP Sandbox

    I am working on Web application honeypot. It collects PHP files it receives (as part of an RFI attack) and runs them in order to return the result back to the attacker. The aim is to coax the bad guy into going further into his attack. Based on the answers to my SO question, I am looking at using VMs for running the PHP Sandbox. The honeypot itself consists of Python code and will be running in a Linux environment (preferably Ubuntu-like). These are some of the requirements: The VM should be a light weight as possible. We are going to distribute the code around and many people are going to use the VM along with the Python based honeypot. So, the installation and configuration should not be too difficult. The guest system would also be Linux as we are going to distribute the VM image around. It should be possible for the Python code outside to talk to the guest system. It would be passing on the PHP file to the guest system and will get the output result from it. It should be possible to automate the initial configuration of the VM (such as allocation of RAM etc.) I would like to randomize these settings in order to make the sandbox less 'fingerprintable' I have looked at OpenVZ and KVM so far. Are there any other VMs that I might look at? What do you recommend?

  • VMWare Fusion - Cannot communicate between Host Mac and Virtual Mac running on same machine [migrated]

    I'm running a "virtual" Mac OS machine on a Mac running VMWare Fusion. The Virtual Mac is setup with Bridged Networking, and has its own separate IP address. The outside world can connect to either the Mac itself or the virtual Mac via their respective IP addresses just fine, this works great! The problem... the Mac itself cannot connect to the virtual Mac's IP address, nor can the virtual Mac connect to the real Mac's IP address. Some things I've read mention something about enabling VMCI, but I have no idea how to do this, or if this is even the correct solution. Any suggestions?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 KVM running Ubuntu 12.04 with linux-image-virtual crash on boot

    One of my VMs is stuck on "pause" in virsh. If I destroy and restart it, it will go to pause after a bit of time as "running". I can at best enter my username at login if I'm quick but it'll then shutdown. I don't know where to start with this so any help would be great!! I can access the VMs files via guestfish. the kern.log and syslog don't populate new lines.     My physical PC is running 2 VMs on virtualbox. Both of the VM's are linux 64 bit. Don’t forget to give it a look. I agree with Mike because after I looked into the /etc/hosts files, it has just default localhost stuff in it. How should I reconfigure the hosts file?

  • Need clear steps on how to convert a Windows 2000 Server to a XenServer VM

    The source system is not local. The target host running XenServer is not local. The source system is running Windows 2000 Server SP4 and has 1 disk split into 6 partitions, all NTFS: C: 6 GB (boot) D: 15 GB E: 6 GB F: 6 GB G: 5 GB H: 26 GB Most of the partitions are mostly mostly full ( 60%). What is the most straightforward way to do a P2V migration of the server? I can do minor database & data syncs after the P2V is successful & running as a VM within XenServer, it's just getting to that point which is not clear. The option of installing a Windows 2000 Server from scratch is not available, I need to convert the existing physical server as-is into a VM to be hosted within a XenServer environment. I've looked at XenConvert but it maxes out on converting only 4 partitions in one shot, and I'm not certain how to account for the 2 extra partitions. I'm not familiar with XenServer but it's my only option right now to go P2V.

  • Can't connect to a Hyper-V VM from anywhere but the host OS

    I have an unusual situation on hand where I'm able to connect to a Hyper-V guest VM from the HOST, but not from anywhere but the host. The VM is running WIn2k8R2 and has IIS installed and Remote Desktop enabled. If I browse to the IP from the host OS, the IIS7 page displays. I can also RDP into the guest OS from the host as well as ping. From OFF the host, RDP, web and ping all fail. If I completely shut off the guest VM's firewall, ping will then start to respond, but all RDP and port 80 still don't. The physical host machine has 2 nics installed, but only one is plugged in. The one plugged in has a static IP. I have one Hyper-V virtual network and it's set to external. The guest VM has one NIC with a different static IP than the host, but both are on the same subnet. The host machine is joined to the domain, the guest VM is not. Any sugestions? Thanks so much for any help you may be able to provide!
