I am creating an intranet website on a Vista 32 machine with IIS7. On my machine it works great! However, when other users on our network try to connect to it they get an error saying "Oops! Internet Explorer could not connect to computername". Perhaps this is because the NTFS and/or IIS permissions are not set correctly.
How do I set the permissions to publish a website on the intranet?
Thanks in advance, Dan
I noticed everytime my dell inspiron 1420 wakes up from sleep the screen will flicker a lot. some times violently. I'm not sure what the problem is. I have disabled tmm but it didn't fix the flickers. Does anyone have a solution?
Here's my spec:
Dell Inspiron 1420
4GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo T5750
Nvidia Geforce 8400MS
WindowsVista 32bit
I've got a Vista machine, and I just uninstalled a bunch of programs that someone had installed and wasn't supposed to. My supervisor now wants me to send a list of these programs to the people who have used the computer just for safe keeping.
Is there any way I can find the names of the programs I just uninstalled?
Hi, at my work computer, a Dell package computer with Vista Business, I turn it on, it shows the Dell boot screen then just hangs forever. Can get into the Bios and boot settings, but other than that, just hangs. What could cause this? No one's been here over the weekend and it was fine on friday.
Thanks.
Am using ROXIO
1. to copy DVD file to my computer
2. to trim a section of the video
3. to convert the file to wmv and this is where WindowsVista gives the message that the program cannot continue.
4. I have followed all of the instructions from ROXIO support to clean my system and do a new install.
It still does not work
Anybody know how to resolve the problem?
I have OS X Server installed. I am using Window Vista on a PC.
But on my network I can't see the OS X server. But I can see other Mac computers in shared but not OS X server.
I am able to ping the IP.
What should I do?
I can not access Contol panel in my windowsvista machine.
As soon as i click the "conrol panel" item in start items, it shows up a window and then its closed automatically ( same happens if i use "control" command).
Is there some program or some registry entry thats restricting it? is ther a way to control this behaviour?
I have a problem with the calendar gadget in Vista. The starting day is Sunday, but I would like to change it to Monday.
I have checked some forums which points me in the direction that:
Change the Regional Settings in ControlPanel to your local region
Change the register key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/International/iFirstDayOfWeek to 0
Both of these are already correct, so it didn't help me.. Does anyone else have a suggestions?
I'm using Office 2007 on WindowsVista and occasionally, when copying from Word to Excel, or text from a website to Word, I will get the hour glass for 10 + seconds and sometimes for about a minute. It should just be simple text and I don't understand why it takes so long.
I have a PC running Opensuse 11.0 Linux. I currently login using ssh with putty. However this is a command line login. How to do a remote xserver login from windows to run a gnome or kde session. what software should I use?
I have the root password for the Linux PC and admin privileges on vista.
I have two PCs (different specs) with the latest WindowsVista and Safari 4 updates installed. In one machine, Safari 4 works great but in the other, it starts up slowly (less than a minute though) with harddisk sound indicating data access activities.
I have cleared all internet caches and I am quite sure that there is no virus in both machines. Are there any other reasons that Safari performances are so different in comparably similar software and hardware environments?
I have WindowsVista on my computer, and it says it has a very good connection to my wireless router, but it doesn't display any webpages in Firefox or IE. It just says "Can't find this page".
Any ideas?
I went to Disk Management and right-click C drive to shrink.
It started the process and after long time passed, 'Access denied' error came out.
I tried a couple of times, but all are the same result.
Could anyone help me how to partition C drive on Vista please?
Thanks in advance.
I know how to change my color scheme in Vista. What I despair about is that after I change it, if I switch to another scheme (such as back to Aero), my customized scheme is gone. If I want, I can take another 30 minutes to customize it so it doesn't burn out my eyes. Is there any way to save this scheme? I tried doing the color scheme change, then trying to save the whole thing as a theme, all to no avail.
My WindowsVista Desktop icon are all gone and I cant set them again! Is there any registry key to show them back? I used regsvr32 /u shell32.dll command but still nothing shows? what should I do?
I know that this would be impossible for an ordinary user. But here we are super users. Any trick that can delete a file that is currently in use in Windows?
According to an article today in the register Microsoft will no longer support Vista from the end of this month.
I have a laptop that is not even a year old using an operating system that will not even have had a year's support.
Is anyone else angry that they are paying for inferior and unsupported products from Microsoft?
My HP d330 does not properly shutdown, after Vista "shutting down" message the lcd screen goes black, but both HD + Power Leds remain on.. Any ideas?
No entries in EventViewer about this.
Keyboard leds no more work after this partial shutdown so I assume hardware is partially shutdown..?
Same problem occurs when I choose Sleep from shutdown menu
My WindowsVista Desktop icon are all gone and I cant set them again!! I do everything but nothing happen. Is there any registry key to show them back? I use regsvr32 /u shell32.dll command but still nothing show? what should I do?
We just setup some new Windows 2008 R2 servers and we are unable to Remote Desktop into them from our Windows 7 desktops. Remote desktop connects, but after we provide credentials we get:
The connection cannot be completed
because the remote computer that was
reached is not the one you specified.
This could be caused by an outdated
entry in the DNS cache. Try using the
IP address of the computer instead of
the name.
If we connect from Windows 7 to a machine not running Windows 2008 R2, or from a machine not running Windows 7 to the Windows 2008 R2 server, it works fine. Likewise if we connect to the Windows 2008 R2 server from Windows 7 via the IP address then it works fine (although that causes other problems later).
I've only found one other mention of someone having this problem, so I don't think it is just our network.
Any suggestions on how to connect from Windows 7 to Windows 2008 R2 via DNS? Both are 64-bit.
Update: Turns out it does not need to be R2 to get the error. We have another server that is Windows 2008 R1 64-bit that also fails.
Just Googling for "windows ramdisk" returns a lot of stuff; some free, some paid. Can someone recommend a good one? (I'm willing to pay, but only if it's really worth paying for.)
Here's what I'm looking for:
Works on XP and Vista
Supports 64 bit and 32 bit
I'd like it to support more than 2GB of space (is that even possible on a 32 bit operating system?)
I think I want something that can avoid swapping the ramdisk pages. (Though swapping would give me more free space; maybe I'll want to swap the ramdisk pages eventually? Is this configurable?)
We have an infuriating problem with a (Vista/Dell) laptop. When an external (Logitech) USB keyboard is attached to it, it regularly starts repeating key presses. When the user recently deleted an Outlook message, it deleted them all! When typing a message, suddenly it will start repeating the last keypress about 30 times (it varies).
It's not a mechanical issue. We've switched the keyboard out four times. Even tried a brand new one one. Every time it's the same. Also, the keyboard works fine on other machines.
The problem doesn't arise when the laptop's own keyboard is used - even if the external USB keyboard is still attached.
I'm stumped? Any ideas. Not using an external keyboard isn't an option due to our health and safety policy (...don't ask...).
