  • Take data from an XML file and put it into a MySQL database

    Hi Guys, I'm looking to construct a script that would go through an XML file. Would find specific tags in it, put them in a table and fill the table with specific tags within them. I'm using MySQL 5.1 so loadXML isn't an option and I think that ExtractData() method wont be much use either.. but I don't really know. What would be the best way to go about this?

  • Complex sorting on MySQL database

    I'm facing the following situation. We've got an CMS with an entity with translations. These translations are stored in a different table with a one-to-many relationship. For example newsarticles and newsarticle_translations. The amount of available languages is dynamically determined by the same CMS. When entering a new newsarticle the editor is required to enter at least one translation, which one of the available languages he chooses is up to him. In the newsarticle overview in our CMS we would like to show a column with the (translated) article title, but since none of the languages are mandatory (one of them is mandatory but i don't know which one) i don't really know how to construct my mysql query to select a title for each newsarticle, regardless of the entered language. And to make it all a little harder, our manager asked for the possibilty to also be able to sort on title, so fetching the translations in a separate query is ruled out as far as i know. Anyone has an idea on how to solve this in the most efficient way?     Hello: In short, currently I am using the following code to pull records from multiple tables in a Sqlite Db and insert them in a single combobox ($SearchBar): set SrchVals1 [db eval {SELECT DISTINCT Stitle From Subcontract Order By Stitle ASC}] set SrchVals2 [db eval {... set SrchVals3 ... set SrchValsALL [concat $SrchVals1 $SrchVals2 $SrchVals3] $SearchBar configure -value $SrchValsAll For the variable "SrchVals1", I am trying to figure out a way to concatenate the text "Sub: " to each individual record in SrchVals1. For example, if SrchVals1 shows the following records in the combobox: First Title Second Title Third Title I would like to concatenate so that the records in the combobox look like this: Sub: First Title Sub: Second Title Sub: Third Title I understand that I might have to use a foreach statement; however, I am having no luck writing one that adds "Sub: " in front of each record, as opposed to one. This seems like something that should be pretty easy, but I cannot seem to figure it out. Does anyone know how I can achieve these results? Thank you, DFM

    Is there a way to duplicate a db record with linq to sql in c#? Id [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, [Foo] [nvarchar](255) NOT NULL, [Bar] [numeric](28,12) NOT NULL, ... Given the table above, I would like to duplicate a record (but give it a different id), in a way that new fields added to the DB and the Linq dbml file at a later date will still get duplicated with out having to change that code that duplicates the record. ie I don't want to write newRecord.Foo = currentRecord.Foo; for all of the fields on the table.

    Hi All, I am loving the new world that is C#, I've come to a point with my toy programs where I want to start writing some unit tests. My code currently uses a database via a DatabaseDataContext object (*.dbml file), what's the best way to create a mock for this object? Given how easy it is to generate the database LINQ - SQL code and how common a request this must be I'm hoping that VS2010 has built in functionality to help with testing. If I'm way off and this must be done manually could you please enlighten me as to your preferred approach? Many Thanks, Gavin

  • What is good practice for writing web applications that control daemons (and their config files)

    Can someone suggest some basic advice on dealing with web applications that interact with configuration files like httpd.conf, bind zone files, etc. I understand that it's bad practice, in fact very dangerous to allow arbitrary execution of code without fully validating it and so on. But say you are tasked to write a small app that allows one to add vhosts to an apache configuration. Do you have your code execute with full privileges, do you write future variables into a database and have a cron job (with full privileges) execute a script that pulls the vars from the database and throws them into a template config file, etc. Some thoughts & contributions on this issue would be appreciated. tl;dr - how can you securely write a web app to update/create entries in a config file like apache's httpd.conf, etc.

The query I'm using was proposed by Bill Karwin on another thread here for setting arbitrary record order. I tried using a prepared statement, but the values in the SIGN() function got quoted.     Hello I'm trying to teach myself Drupal and I've found something I can't find any tutorials for. I am trying to generate a form, with a dynamic number of text fields, to populate and edit the contents of my custom table.   • iPhone scrolling the view up when keyboard is open

    I understand that this problem is incredibly common and I have read through quite a few answers but am having trouble understanding how the code works. This works: -(void)textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField *)sender { if ([sender isEqual:txtLeaveAddyLine1]) { //move the main view, so that the keyboard does not hide it. if (self.view.frame.origin.y >= 0) { [self setViewMovedUp:YES]; } } } In this example, txtLeaveAddy is the very first UITextField that is hidden by the keyboard and it works like a charm. As I cycle through the text fields on the screen it scrolls up when the user enters into that txtLeaveAddyLine1 field. However, when I try to add the fields below the txtLeaveAddyLine1 field - nothing happens.     I am new to the distributed NoSQL databases like Hadoop, Cassandra, etc. I have few questions for which I seek an expert advice: Can you list problems/challenges one will generally face when making a shift from the present conventional database like MySQL to these large cluster-based databases? What are the difficulties, if any, when one needs to adapt to a newer version of these open source projects? Can you list out the things which are generally stored/kept in memcached for fast rendering of the page? How can I understand the source code of open-source projects so that I can build on it and maybe give back to the community? Above questions may sound to be idiotic and basic but please it's a request for the experts to answer the above questions in detailed and to best of their abilities.

    Is there a way to only show the items that are older than a certain date in a php mysql array? I'm using this query method and sorting by lastpost_cl: $query="SELECT * FROM properties ORDER BY lastpost_cl"; $result=mysql_query($query); $num = mysql_num_rows ($result); mysql_close(); and I was thinking the way of checking the time would be: if (time() <= strtotime($lastpost_cl)) { } How can I combine the two and only show lastpost_cl that are older that the current time?

    I'm running a cron job (every 15 minutes) which takes about a minute to execute. It makes lots of API calls and stores data to the database. Right now I create a mysql connection at the beginning and use the same connection through out the code. Most of the time is spent making the API calls. Will it be more efficient to create a new database connection only when it's time to store the data (below)?     Hello, I'm creating a database with Access. This is just a test database, similar to my requirements, so I can get my skills up before creating one for work. I've created a database for a fictional school as this is a good playground and rich data (many students have many subjects have many teachers, etc). Question 1 What is the difference, if any, between using a Lookup column and a many-to-many associate table? Example: I have Tables 'Teacher' and 'Subject'. Many teachers have many subjects. I can, and have, created a table 'Teacher_Subject' and run queries with this. I have then created a lookup column in teachers table with data from subjects. The lookup column seems to take the place of the teacher_subject table. (though the data on relationships is obviously duplicated between lookup table and teacher_subject and may vary). Which one is the 'better' option? Is there a snag with using lookup tables? (I realize that this is a very 'general' question. Links to other resources and answers saying 'that depends...' are appreciated) Question 2 What attracts me to lookup tables is the following: When creating a form for entering subjects for teachers, with lookup I can simply create checkboxes and click a subject for a teacher 'on' or 'off'. Each click on/off creates/removes a record in the lookup column (which replaces teacher_subject). If I use a form from a query from teacher subject with teacher as main form and subject as subform I run into this problem: In the subform I can either select each subject that teacher has in a bombo box, i.e. click, scroll down, select, go to next row, click, scroll down, etc. (takes too long) OR I can create a list box listing all available subjects in each row but allowing me to select only one. (takes up too much space). Is it possible to have a click on/off list box for teacher_subject, creating/removing a record there with each click? Note - I know zero SQL or VB. If the correct answer is "you need to know SQL for this" then that's cool. I just need to know. Thanks!

I had Invoke annotation but MyData is not TEntity and I can't use Strings or other simple types as well... :/ I'm reading and reading posts and nothing works like it should..
