• MySQL escape string help

- by gAMBOOKa
I have a pretty large insert statement something like INSERT INTO multimedia (filename, regex, flag) VALUES (('adsfavr.jpg', '
', 0), (...), (...)); How do I prepare the query for MySQL.It's too long to do it manually. It includes double quotes so I can't use the php function mysql_real_escape_string()

• Tuning MySQL to take advantage of a 4GB VPS

- by alistair.mp
Hello, We're running a large site at the moment which has a dedicated VPS for it's database server which is running MySQL and nothing else. At the moment all four CPU cores are running at close to 100% all of the time but the memory usage sticks at around 268MB out of an available 4096MB. I'm wondering what we can do to better utilise the memory and reduce the CPU load by tweaking MySQL's settings? Here is what we currently have in my.cnf: http://pastie.org/private/hxeji9o8n3u9up9mvtinbq Thanks

• How come nobody wrote RadioMenuItems class for Winforms?

- by Pavel Radzivilovsky
Or maybe google is just not so friendly to me? What I want is this simple thing: constructor that accepts an array of menu item objects Value get/set property that would set all the Checked properties right bind to all Clicked events of the supplied items and provide One event Working DataBind facilities If you encountered such a nice thing around, please direct me. No need for manual do-it-in-your-form1.cs-class links, please. This I can do myself.

• Why static fields are not initialized in time?

- by Tom Brito
Somebody tell me: class MyClass { private static MyClass myClass = new MyClass(); private static final Object obj = new Object(); public MyClass() { System.out.println(obj); // will print null once } } I wonder, isn't this a bug? Why static objects are not initialized before the constructor runs?

• Salesforce consuming XML and display data in Visualforce report

- by JavaKungFu
Firstly, this question requires a bit of introduction so please bear with me. The high level is that I am connecting to a outside web service which will return some XML to my apex controller. The idea is that I want to display the XML returned into a nice tabular format in a VisualForce page. The format of the XML coming back will look something like this: <Wrapper><reportTable name='table_id' title='Report Title'> <row> <Element1>campaign_id</Element1> <Element2>577373</Element2> <Element3>4129</Element3> <Element4 dataFormat='2' dataSuffix='%'>0.7151</Element4> <Element5>2010-04-04</Element5> <Element6>2010-05-03</Element6> </row> </reportTable> ... Now currently I am using the XMLdom utility class (developed by SF for XML functions) to map this data into a custom object "reportTable" which contains a list of "row" custom objects. The reason I am building it out this way is because I don't know how many elements will be in each row, nor the number of rows. The Visualforce page looks something like this:
<apex:repeat value="{!reportTables}" var="table"> <apex:repeat value="{!table.rows}" var="row">
<apex:repeat value="{!row.ColumnValue}" var="column"> <apex:repeat value="{!column}" var="value">
<apex:outputText value="{!value}" />
</apex:repeat> </apex:repeat>
</apex:repeat> Questions are: 1) Does this seem like a good approach to the problem? 2) Is there a simpler/better way to consume the XML besides writing my own custom objects to map VF to? Open to any and all suggestions. I really hope there is a better way than building the HTML table myself, as then I also have to deal with styling and alignment etc. Thanks.

• Bind DataGrid to Dictionary in ASP.NET

- by mcoolbeth
In ASP.NET, binding a DataGrid to a list of objects is super-easy. I end up with a row for each object in the list, and any cell in a given row is bound to a property of the corresponding object. However, suppose one of the properties of my object is a dictionary, and each is expected to contain a specific key. Is there any way to bind one of my DataGridColumns to that dictionary key? Thanks.

• Read and write directly from and to compressed files in C

- by victor
Hi, in Java I think it is possible to cruise through jar files like they were not compressed. Is there some similar (and portable) thing in C/C++ ? I would like to import binary data into memory from a large (zipped or similar) file without decompressing to disk first and afterwards writing to disk in a compressed way. Maybe some trick with shell pipes and the zip utility?

• Anyone know of a good open source spam checker in java or c#?

- by Spines
I'm creating a site where users can write articles and comment on the articles. I want to automatically check to see if a new article or comment is spam. What are good libraries for doing this? I looked at bayesian classifier libraries, but it seems that I would have to gather a large amount of samples and classify them all as spam or not spam myself... I'm looking for something that can hopefully just tell me right out of the box.

• Oversized Qt Fonts on OSX

- by Mike Arthur
Why does Qt on OSX appear to default to overly large fonts? Even when you select the same font size manually the fonts appear slightly bigger. Does Qt on OSX use a different font rendering to OSX? Does this improve if you use Qt for Cocoa? In addition, is there a qtconfig tool or equivalent to globally set the font settings for all Qt applications? Thanks!

• Creating a java library

- by Albinoswordfish
This may be a silly question, but right now I have a rather large class that I want to use as a library. Where somebody can simply add this jar file to their classpath. And then simply do an import statement at the top, then he or she can start using this class. Is there anything special I need to do or can I simply just use the jar file built?

• jax-ws: how to get a handle to start/end of processing incoming soap message

- by Gerard
Situation: jax-ws web service on Weblogic appserver; wsdl first development, jaxb customizations in external binding file. I would like to get a handle to the actual jaxb context that will process the incoming soap xml message, before it has been unmarshalled into java objects. Then I would like to get the unmarshaller of this jaxb context - the one that actually will be used during the unmarshalling. And then setup some properties of this unmarshaller (e.g. listener and idresolver).

• Cocoa - Timer object that can be started, suspended, resumed?

- by psychotik
I'm looking for a repeating timer object that allows me to create it once and then suspend and resume it as needed for the lifetime of my application. I've seen documentation for NSTimer and although I think I can make it do what I want by building an abstraction on top of it that creates/invalidates timer objects multiple times, I was curios if there is a better way using some other system timer implementation. I'm not too familiar with Mac development and couldn't find any other leads besides NSTimer.

• Again, user config files C#

- by George
Hey guys. I have a large config file (user) that i needed to go to the right location and have some default values. Since i have a installer class, i added some parameter setting to the config file in it, but created the config files in the installers folder. What is the best way to ensure these default parameters will be written only once, and in the right location?

• accessing values in a Map container, whose values were passed on as a stream

- by wilson88
I am trying to get access to the object values of the objects that were sent as a stream from one class to ano ther.Aparently I can view the objects via their keys but am not so sure how to get to the values.ie Bid- values trdId,qty, price. If possible you can demostrate how I can make comparison for the prices in the containers buyers and sellers for the prices. code is as below: void Auctioneer::printTable(map bidtable) { map<int, Bid*>::const_iterator iter; cout << "\t\tBidID | TradID | Type | Qty | Price \n\n"; for(iter=bidtable.begin(); iter != bidtable.end(); iter++)//{ cout << iter->second->toString() << endl<<"\n"; //------------------------------------------------------------------------- // Creating another map for the sellers. cout<<"These are the Sellers bids\n\n"; map<int, Bid*> sellers(bidtable); sellers.erase(10);sellers.erase(11);sellers.erase(12);sellers.erase(13);sellers.erase(14); sellers.erase(15);sellers.erase(16); sellers.erase(17);sellers.erase(18);sellers.erase(19); for(iter=sellers.begin(); iter != sellers.end(); iter++) cout << iter->second->toString() << endl<<"\n"; //-------------------------------------------------------------------------- // Creating another map for the sellers. cout<<"These are the Buyers bids\n\n"; map<int, Bid*> buyers(bidtable); buyers.erase(0);buyers.erase(1);buyers.erase(2);buyers.erase(3);buyers.erase(4);buyers.erase(5); buyers.erase(6);buyers.erase(7); buyers.erase(8);buyers.erase(9); for(iter=buyers.begin(); iter != buyers.end(); iter++) //sellers.erase(10); cout << iter->second->toString() << endl<<"\n";

• Automated regression tests for java applets?

- by Roy Tang
We're working on a project with a number of applets that has to work across a large range of OS (WIndows, Mac, Linux), browsers (IE, FF, Safari, etc) and Java versions (1.5+), and it often happens that a fix we apply will cause some sort of security exception an another platform or some other error. Is there any way for us to prepare automated tests to immediately catch those problems in different platforms? I think it's not necessary to check that the gui parts are appearing as intended, but just to detect whether unexpected exceptions are occuring.

• SQL Joins on varchar fields timing out

- by CL4NCY
Hi, I have a join which deletes rows that match another table but the joining fields have to be a large varchar (250 chars). I know this isn't ideal but I can't think of a better way. Here's my query: DELETE P FROM dbo.FeedPhotos AS P INNER JOIN dbo.ListingPhotos AS P1 ON P.photo = P1.feedImage INNER JOIN dbo.Listings AS L ON P.accountID = L.accountID WHERE P.feedID = @feedID This query is constantly timing out even though there are less than 1000 rows in the ListingPhotos table. Any help would be appreciated.

• LINQ: Create persistable Associations in Code, Without Foreign Key

- by Alex
Hello, I know that I can create LINQ Associations without a Foreign Key. The problem is, I've been doing this by adding the [Association] attribute in the DBML file (same as through the designer), which will get erased again after I refresh my database (and reload the entire table structure). I know that there is the MyData.cs file (as part of the DBML) in which I can place my partial extensions etc. to domain objects (to persist even after I refresh the DBML), but I don't know how to create an association there?

• Java object to XML Elements?

- by DaveKub
I'm working on a webservices client app and I have it mostly working. I can retrieve and read data from the third-party webservice fine. Now I need to submit some data and I'm stuck. The classes for the objects I'm retrieving/submitting were generated from XSD files via the xjc tool. The part I'm stuck on is turning one of those objects into an XML tree to submit to the webservice. When I retrieve/send a request from/to the ws, it contains a 'payload' object. This is defined in java code as (partial listing): @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD) @XmlType(name = "PayloadType", propOrder = { "compressed", "document", "any", "format" }) public class PayloadType { @XmlElement(name = "Compressed") protected String compressed; @XmlElement(name = "Document") protected List<String> document; @XmlAnyElement protected List<Element> any; protected String format; public List<Element> getAny() { if (any == null) { any = new ArrayList<Element>(); } return this.any; } } The only field I'm concerned with is the 'any' field which contains an XML tree. When I retrieve data from the ws, I read that field with something like this: ('root' is of org.w3c.dom.Element type and is the result of calling 'getAny().get(0)' on the payload object) NodeList nl = root.getElementsByTagName("ns1:Process"); // "ns1:Process" is an XML node to do something with if (nl != null && nl.getLength() > 0) { for (int i = 0; i < nl.getLength(); i++) { Element proc = (Element) nl.item(i); try { // do something with the 'proc' Element here... } catch (Exception ex) { // handle problems here... } } } Submitting data is where I'm stuck. How do I take a java object created from one of the classes generated from XSD and turn it into an Element object that I can add to the 'any' List of the payload object?? For instance, if I have a DailyData class and I create and populate it with data: DailyData dData = new DailyData(); dData.setID = 34; dData.setValues = "3,5,76,23"; How do I add that 'dData' object to the 'any' List of the payload object? It has to be an Element. Do I do something with a JAXBContext marshaller? I've used that to dump the 'dData' object to the screen to check the XML structure. I'm sure the answer is staring me in the face but I just can't see it! Dave

• How do you attract programmers in rural areas?

- by Reed Copsey
I run a software development group for a very small, but stable and established company in a small town, somewhat outside of the "big city". Unfortunately, the "programmer" labor pool is much smaller due to the size of the city. There are many positives to working in this area, especially in terms of quality of life (particularly for people interested in outdoor activities), lower cost of living, great schools and neighborhoods, etc. However, I've always had difficulty attracting high-qualtiy, experienced developers. For those of you who hire developers outside of large cities: Where do you advertise to find good developers? Many of the large sites are very focused in certain metropolitan areas, and seem inappropriate places to advertise if you're outside of that main region. How do you attract quality developers to rural (or at least less metropolitan) locations? Do you find that you make more sacrifices in your hiring due to a smaller labor pool? Or do you just wait, and take extra time to attract people? What sacrifices do you expect to make if you are outside of the main developer-rich cities? For all of the developers out there... What would entice you to working in a smaller town? Are there things that would stand out and make you willing to relocate or at least apply to a position that was not nearby? What specific qualities would help you want to move outside of the city? In the past, I've had difficulty with finding good people. Most of the people who've applied and been willing to move out to a more rural location seem like the types that can't keep a quality job elsewhere. I'd like to know what advice people have to attracting quality technical staff. I don't believe its the work itself that's been the problem - The work is both interesting and challenging, and nearly 100% new development. The developers I have seem very happy with their situation - they love the work, the atmosphere, etc. It's more a matter of finding willing, able developers. Edit: More info after the first couple of answers: Right now, some of my best developers telecommute (some work from overseas); however, for this question, I'm trying to figure out how to get people who want to live and work full time locally. I need some people with whom I interact every day.
