    Does anybody know what data structures are used to the store messages in an SMS client app, and whether there is an existing API for this.     I'm coming to C++ from a .Net background. Knowing how to use the Standard C++ Libraries, and all the syntax, I've never ventured further. Now I'm looking learning a bit more, such as what libraries are commonly used? I want to start getting into Threading but have no idea to start. Is there a library (similar to how .net has System.Threading) out there that will make it a bit easier? I'm specifically looking to do Linux based network programming.

    With the following code void TestF(const double ** testv){;} void callTest(){ double** test; TestF(test); } I get this: error C2664: 'TestF' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'double **' to 'const double **' I cannot understand why. Why test cannot be silently casted to const double**? Why should I do it explicitly? I know that TestF(const_cast<const double**>(test)) makes my code correct, but I feel this should be unnecessary. Are there some key concepts about const that I'm missing?

  • jsp and java beans

    I am building jsp pages hosted on tomcat and am wondering if the bean instances referenced in each jsp are stateless / stateful? How do those bean instances come about? Are they (re-)created each time when the page is visited? Do I need to worry about two different users visiting the same page at the same time and getting hold of the same bean instance? In general I find the interaction between jsp and beans quite confusing so I'd appreciate if someone can refer a tutorial / explanation of those concepts. Thanks!

  • Should my DAOs (Database Entities) Directly match my UI Objects?

    I am trying to figure out best practice for N-Tier application design. When designing the objects my UI needs and those that will be persisted in the DB some of my colleagues are suggesting that the objects be one in the same. This doesn't not feel right to me and I am ultimately looking for some best practice documentation to help me in this decision. I honestly do not understand why I would want to design this way given that other applications may want to interact with my Data Access Layer....or it is just ignorance or lack of understanding on my part. Any documentation, information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Just want to better understand these concepts and I am having a hard time finding some good information on the best practice for implementing these patterns (Or it is right in front of me on what I found and I didn't understand what was being outlined).
