  • Code-Golf: Friendly Number Abbreviator

    - by David Murdoch
    Based on this question: Is there a way to round numbers into a friendly format? THE CHALLENGE - UPDATED! (removed hundreds abbreviation from spec) The shortest code by character count that will abbreviate an integer (no decimals). Code should include the full program. Relevant range is from 0 - 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 (the upper limit for signed 64 bit integer). The number of decimal places for abbreviation will be positive. You will not need to calculate the following: 920535 abbreviated -1 place (which would be something like 0.920535M). Numbers in the tens and hundreds place (0-999) should never be abbreviated (the abbreviation for the number 57 to 1+ decimal places is 5.7dk - it is unneccessary and not friendly). Remember to round half away from zero (23.5 gets rounded to 24). Banker's rounding is verboten. Here are the relevant number abbreviations: h = hundred (102) k = thousand (103) M = million (106) G = billion (109) T = trillion (1012) P = quadrillion (1015) E = quintillion (1018) SAMPLE INPUTS/OUTPUTS (inputs can be passed as separate arguments): First argument will be the integer to abbreviate. The second is the number of decimal places. 12 1 => 12 // tens and hundreds places are never rounded 1500 2 => 1.5k 1500 0 => 2k // look, ma! I round UP at .5 0 2 => 0 1234 0 => 1k 34567 2 => 34.57k 918395 1 => 918.4k 2134124 2 => 2.13M 47475782130 2 => 47.48G 9223372036854775807 3 => 9.223E // ect... . . . Original answer from related question (javascript, does not follow spec): function abbrNum(number, decPlaces) { // 2 decimal places => 100, 3 => 1000, etc decPlaces = Math.pow(10,decPlaces); // Enumerate number abbreviations var abbrev = [ "k", "m", "b", "t" ]; // Go through the array backwards, so we do the largest first for (var i=abbrev.length-1; i>=0; i--) { // Convert array index to "1000", "1000000", etc var size = Math.pow(10,(i+1)*3); // If the number is bigger or equal do the abbreviation if(size <= number) { // Here, we multiply by decPlaces, round, and then divide by decPlaces. // This gives us nice rounding to a particular decimal place. number = Math.round(number*decPlaces/size)/decPlaces; // Add the letter for the abbreviation number += abbrev[i]; // We are done... stop break; } } return number; }

  • DocumentFragment not appending in IE

    - by bmwbzz
    I have a select list which, when changed, pulls data via ajax and dynamically creates select lists. Then based on the data used to create the select lists (a type), I pull more data via ajax if i don't have it already and create the options for the select list and store them in a fragment. Then I append that fragment to the select list. This is zippy in FF3 and Chrome but either doesn't append the options at all or takes a long time (minutes) to append the options in IE7. Note: I am also using jQuery. code from the success callback which creates the select lists: blockDiv.empty(); var contentItemTypes = new Array(); selectLists = new Array(); for (var post in msg) { if (post != undefined) { var div = fragment.cloneNode(true); //deep copy var nameDiv = $(div.firstChild); nameDiv.text(msg[post].Name); blockDiv[0].appendChild(div); var allSelectLists = blockDiv.find('.editor-field select'); var selectList = $(allSelectLists[allSelectLists.length - 1]); var blockId = msg[post].ID; var elId = 'PageContentItem.' + blockId; selectList.attr('id', elId); selectList.attr('name', elId); var contentItemTypeId = msg[post].ContentItemTypeId; selectList.attr('cit', contentItemTypeId); if (contentItems[contentItemTypeId] != null || contentItems[contentItemTypeId] != undefined) { contentItems[contentItemTypeId] = null; } selectLists[post] = selectList; } } var firstContentTypeId = selectLists[0].attr('cit'); getContentItems(firstContentTypeId, setContentItemsForList, 0); code to get the items for the options in the select lists. function getContentItems(contentTypeId, callback, callbackParam) { if (contentItems[contentTypeId] != null || contentItems[contentTypeId] != undefined) { callback(contentTypeId, callbackParam); return; } contentItems[contentTypeId] = document.createDocumentFragment(); Q.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/CMS/ContentItem/ListByContentType/" + contentTypeId, data: "{}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", error: function(xhr, msg, e) { var err = eval("(" + xhr.responseText + ")"); alert(err.ExceptionType + " ***** " + err.Message + " ***** " + err.StackTrace); }, success: function(msg) { var li; for (var post in msg) { if (post != undefined) { li = $('<option value="' + msg[post].ID + '">' + msg[post].Description + '</option>'); contentItems[contentTypeId].appendChild(li[0]); } } callback(contentTypeId, callbackParam); } }); } function setContentItemsForList(contentTypeId, selectIndex) { if (selectIndex < selectLists.length) { var items = contentItems[contentTypeId].cloneNode(true); selectLists[selectIndex].append($(items.childNodes)); selectIndex++; if (selectIndex < selectLists.length) { var nextContentTypeId = selectLists[selectIndex].attr('cit'); getContentItems(nextContentTypeId, setContentItemsForList, selectIndex); } } }

  • Create Downloadable CSV File from PHP Script

    - by Aphex22
    How would I create a formatted version of the following PHP script as a downloadable CSV file from the code below (1.0) At the moment the fputcsv function is currently dumping the unparsed PHP/HTML code into a CSV file. This is incorrect. The downloaded CSV file should contain the columns and rows generated from the code at (1.0) as shown in the image link below. I've tried using the following code at the top of the PHP file: // output headers so that the file is downloaded rather than displayed header('Content-Type: text/csv; charset=utf-8'); header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=amazon.csv'); // create a file pointer connected to the output stream $output = fopen('php://output', 'w'); $mysql_hostname = ""; $mysql_user = ""; $mysql_password = ""; $mysql_database = ""; $bd = mysql_connect($mysql_hostname, $mysql_user, $mysql_password) or die("Could not connect database"); mysql_select_db($mysql_database, $bd) or die("Could not select database"); $sql = "select * from product WHERE on_amazon = 'on' AND active = 'on'"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or die ( mysql_error() ); // loop over the rows, outputting them while ($sql_result = mysql_fetch_assoc($sql)) fputcsv($output, $sql_result); 1.0 The start of the code outputs the column headings for the CSV file: // set headers echo " item_sku, external_product_id, external_product_id_type, item_name, brand_name, manufacturer, product_description, feed_product_type, update_delete, part_number, model, standard_price, list_price, currency, quantity, product_tax_code, product_site_launch_date, merchant_release_date, restock_date ... <br>"; And then follows PHP script for the column values // load all stock while ($line = mysql_fetch_assoc($result) ) { ?> <?php $size_suffix = array ("",'_chain','_con_b','_con_c'); $arrayLength = count ($size_suffix); for($y=0;$y<$arrayLength;$y++) { //Possible size array to loop through when checking quantity $con_size = array (36,365,37,375,38,385,39,395,40,405,41,415,42,425,43,435,44,445,45,455,46,465,47,475,48,485); $arrlength=count($con_size); for($x=0;$x<$arrlength;$x++) { // check if size is available if($line['quantity_c_size_'.$con_size[$x].$size_suffix[$y]] > 0 ) { ?> <!-- item sku --> <?=$line['product_id']?>, <!-- external product id --> <?=$line['code_size_'.$con_size[$x].'']?>, <?   • How to do run length encoding?

    - by Phoenix
    I have a long string for example it could be "aaaaaabbccc". Need to represent it as "a6b2c3". What's the best way to do this ? I could do this in linear time by comparing characters and incrementing counts and then replacing the counts in the array, using two indexes in one pass. Can you guys think of a better way than this? Are any of the encoding techniques going to work here ?

  • Python float copy question

    - by SJA
    Hi, I'm puzzled by some behaviour I'm seeing when copying a float array member into another variable - please help! For example data_entry[1] = 9.6850069951 new_value = data_entry[1] <comment> #print both 9.6850069951 9.6850663300 I'm aware of the problem of binary storage of floats but I thought with a direct copy of memory we would end up with the same value. Any ideas? I need better precision than this! thanks in advance Stuart

  • C# function normal return value VS out or ref argument

    - by misha-r
    Hi People, I've got a method in c# that needs to return a very large array (or any other large data structure for that matter). Is there a performance gain in using a ref or out parameter instead of the standard return value? I.e. is there any performance or other gain in using void function(sometype input, ref largearray) over largearray function(sometype input) ? Thanks in advance!

  • How to get webcam video stream bytes in c++

    - by Mr Bell
    I am targeting windows machines. I need to get access to the pointer to the byte array describing the individual streaming frames from an attached usb webcam. I saw the playcap directshow sample from the windows sdk, but I dont see how to get to raw data, frankly, I don't understand how the video actually gets to the window. Since I don't really need anything other than the video capture I would prefer not to use opencv. Visual Studio 2008 c++
