• jQuery AJAX Web service works only locally

  Hi, I have a simple ASP.NET Web Service [WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] [System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService] public class Service : System.Web.Services.WebService { public Service () { } [WebMethod] public string SetName(string name) { return "hello my dear friend " + name; } } For this Web Service I created Virtual Directory, so I can receive the access by taping http://localhost:89/Service.asmx. I try to call it via simple html page with jQuery. For this purpose I use function CallWS() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", data: "{'name':'Pumba'}", dataType: "json", url: "http://localhost:89/Service.asmx/SetName", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", success: function (msg) { $('#DIVid').html(msg.d); }, error: function (e) { $('#DIVid').html("Error"); } }); The most interesting fact: If I create the html page in the project with my WebService and change url to Service.asmx/SetName everything works excellent. But if I try to call this webservice remotely - success function works but msg is null. After that I tried to call this service even via SOAP. • How do I verify the URL that ActiveResource intends to use on a call?

  Hi there, I'm trying to request data from another Rails app, but I keep getting a "URL not found" error. Is it possible to use the debugger to figure out the intended URL and parameters for an intended ActiveResource call? For example, I'd like to make a GET request with the following parameters: https://some_server.com/employees/search.xml?last_name=smith And I have the following ActiveResource model class Employee < ActiveResource::Base self.site = "https://.some_server.com" end And the some_server.com app has a search action that maps this way: map.connect "/employees/search.:format", :controller => 'employees', :action => 'search' But when I try this: Employee.new(:last_name => 'smith).get(:search) I get a 404 "Service not found" error. To me, that sounds like the URL that ACtiveResource is requesting is incorrect, 'cause when I make the above request via a browser, I get the xml. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Cheerio, Berns

• Parsing language for both binary and character files

  The problem: You have some data and your program needs specified input. For example strings which are numbers. You are searching for a way to transform the original data in a format you need. And the problem is: The source can be anything. It can be XML, property lists, binary which contains the needed data deeply embedded in binary junk. And your output format may vary also: It can be number strings, float, doubles.... You don't want to program. You want routines which gives you commands capable to transform the data in a form you wish. Surely it contains regular expressions, but it is very good designed and it offers capabilities which are sometimes much more easier and more powerful. Something like a super-grep which you can access (!) as program routines, not only as tool. It allows: joining/grouping/merging of results inserting/deleting/finding/replacing write macros which allows to execute a command chain repeatedly meta-grouping (lists-tables-hypertables) Example (No, I am not looking for a solution to this, it is just an example): You want to read xml strings embedded in a binary file with variable length records. Your tool reads the record length and deletes the junk surrounding your text. Now it splits open the xml and extracts the strings. Being Indian number glyphs and containing decimal commas instead of decimal points, your tool transforms it into ASCII and replaces commas with points. Now the results must be stored into matrices of variable length....etc. etc. I am searching for a good language / language-design and if possible, an implementation. Which design do you like or even, if it does not fulfill the conditions, wouldn't you want to miss ? EDIT: The question is if a solution for the problem exists and if yes, which implementations are available. You DO NOT implement your own sorting algorithm if Quicksort, Mergesort and Heapsort is available. You DO NOT invent your own text parsing method if you have regular expressions. You DO NOT invent your own 3D language for graphics if OpenGL/Direct3D is available. There are existing solutions or at least papers describing the problem and giving suggestions. And there are people who may have worked and experienced such problems and who can give ideas and suggestions. The idea that this problem is totally new and I should work out and implement it myself without background knowledge seems for me, I must admit, totally off the mark.

  My setting: Apache 2.2 + Tomcat 6.0 @ Windows 2008 R2 64bit static webpages: / servlet: /foo tomcat and apache are connected by mod_jk 404.jsp is placed in tomcat\webapps\ROOT tomcat\conf\web.xml: <error-page> <error-code>404</error-code> <location>/404.jsp</location> </error-page> apache\conf\extra\httpd-ssl.conf: JkMount /foo/* worker1 JkMount /404.jsp worker1 When I open https://...../404.jsp my custom error page is displayed. But when I open https://...../foo/nonexisting.html an empty page is displayed. If I remove the <error-page>...</error-page> code from web.xml and open https://...../foo/nonexisting.html then tomcats own 404 is displayed. Any hints?

  Is it possible to make xsl:analyze-string return one string instead of a sequence of strings? Background: I'd like to use xsl:analyze-string in a xsl:function that should encapsulate the pattern matching. Ideally, the function should return an xs:string to be used as sort criteria in an xsl:sort element. At the moment, i have to apply string-join() on every result of the function call since xsl:analyze-string returns a sequence of strings, and xsl:sort doesn't accept such a sequence as sort criteria.   I need to generate a graph using the following XML in FLEX. I require the graph to display only the points in XML and exclude remaining thought it lies in between since it contains no data. How this can be done?

  Hi, I need a little help with ClientDatasets in Delphi. What I want to achieve is a grid showing customers, where one of the columns shows the number of orders for each customer. I put a ClientDataset on a form and load Customers.xml from Delphi demo-data. Another ClienDataset is loaded with orders.xml. Relatively simple, I can define an aggregate on the orders CDS showing the total amount per customer (or the count). (See Cary Jensens article on this: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/29272) The problem is getting this aggregate result from orders dataset into the customer dataset. It is kind of an reverse lookup, since there is a 1-n relationship between customers and orders, not an n-1 as normally in lookup scenarios. Any ideas ? Søren

  I am creating a few JAX-WS endpoints, for which I want to save the received and sent messages for later inspection. To do this, I am planning to save the messages (XML files) into filesystem, in some sensible hierarchy. There will be hundreds, even thousands of files per day. I also need to store metadata for each file. I am considering to put the metadata (just a couple of fields) into database table, but the XML file content itself into files in a filesystem in order not to bloat the database with content data (that is seldomly read). Is there some simple library that helps me in saving, loading, deleting etc. the files? It's not that tricky to implement it myself, but I wonder if there are existing solutions? Just a simple library that already provides easy access to filesystem (preferrably over different operating systems). Or do I even need that, should I just go with raw/custom Java?

  Problem Statement I'm writing a very basic WPF application to alter the contents of a configuration file. The data format is an XML file with a schema. I want to use it as a learning project for MVVM, so I have duly divided the code into Model: C# classes auto-generated from xsd.exe View-Model: View-friendly representation of the Model. View: Xaml and empty code behind I understand how the View-Model can make View-binding a breeze. However, doesn't that leave the View-Model <- Model semantics very awkward? Xsd.exe generates C# classes with arrays for multiple XML elements. However, at the V-VM level you need Observable Collections. Questions: Does this really mean I have to keep two completely different collection types representing the same data in coherence? What are the best practices for maintaining coherence between the Model and the View-Model?

  I use to create an application that uses the windows speech recognition engine or the SAPI. its like a game for pronounciation that it give you score when you pronounce it correctly. but when i started experiments with SAPI, it has poor recognition unless if you load a grammar on it (XML) its give best recognition result. but the problem now is closest pronounciation from the input text will be recognize. for example: Database - dedebase - correct. even if you mispronounce it. it gives you correct answers. without using the xml grammar when you say database it give you "in the base/the base/data base/etc..." please post your answer,suggestion,clarication. votes for best answer. is it posible or not? by the way i use delphi compiler on the projects....

I read some articles but i still dont have a clear picture of how to do it, coz i have used core data only with sqlite. I want to do the following things : Will receive table data from a web service. Have to perform certain calculations on those fields. Will send the data back in xml format to the server.   I'm creating a template which produces output based on a single string, passed via parameter, and does not use an input XML document. xsltproc seems to happily run with a single parameter specifying the stylesheet, but I don't see a way to trigger a template without an input file (no parameter to xsltproc to run a named template, for example). I'd like to be able to run: xsltproc --stringparam bar baz foo.xsl But I'm currently having to run, with the "main" template matching "/": echo '<xml/>' | xsltproc --stringparam bar baz foo.xsl - How can I get this to work? I'm sure I've seen other templates in the past which were meant to be run without an input document, but I don't remember how they worked or where to find them again. :-)

I know there are tools such as baksmali / smali to disassemble / re-assemble given classes.dex from .apk, but not sure limitation what could be modified from there on? I'm trying to add additional activity, to modify starting launcher activity (may be from androidmanifest.xml) from original apk, then re-pack and sign to make complete single .apk... all need to be done out of build time, no raw source or build structure visible, only .apk as input... ANY IDEA?

• HelloWebView Sample: now using SDK 3 and getting killed

  Hey Folks, Well I was trying to get the HelloWebview example working with SDK 7 with no success (see HelloWebView Sample: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial thread), so I decided just out of curiosity to back off to SDK3 to see if I could learn anything. I have been able to get all the "Layout" samples to work and decided to try something a little harder. Unfortunately, I still cannot get the simple HelloWebView app to run. I no longer get a Permission Denial but now the app is getting killed. Killed usually implies that there are not enough resources (memory etc.) for an application to run.... Any thoughts? Are there any other log files I can look at either on my computer or on the emulator? The main.xml, manifest, and console output are below. Let me know if you need more information. • PHP File Serving Script: Unreliable Downloads?

  This post started as a question on ServerFault ( http://serverfault.com/questions/131156/user-receiving-partial-downloads ) but I determined that our php script was the culprit. So I'm issuing an updated question here about what I believe is the actual issue. I am using a php script to verify permissions and then serve up a file for users of my website to download. Most of the time, this works, but recently one user has been seeing problems with larger downloads. He is only getting ~80% of downloads for files that are 100MB in size. Also, all downloads from this script fail to report a filesize. Further, tests revealed that the same user COULD reliably download each of the failed files if given a direct link (at which point the filesize is reported). Here's the relevant snippet of code that we are using to serve the file: header("Content-type:$contenttype"); $len = filesize($filename); header("Content-Length: $len"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".$title.".".$ext); readfile($filename); Note that $contenttype, $filename, $title, and $ext are all set correctly before we get here. These have been triple-checked. None of them are the problem. Also, $len does provide the correct filesize. While researching this issue, I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1334471/content-length-header-always-zero It seems that I am encountering the same issue. When I use the script, I get chunked encoding on the file and no size is set for content-length. I'm hypothesizing that something is going wrong on the large downloads, leading him to get a zero-length chunk before the end of the file. • Wunderground and UTC Offset

  I am consuming the international weather forecasts via Wunderground's XML API: http://wiki.wunderground.com/index.php/API_-_XML Looking at an output for Kabul, Afghanistan for instance: http://api.wunderground.com/auto/wui/geo/ForecastXML/index.xml?query=OAKB I notice that there is no UTC offset. The closest that I can see is this: <tz_short>AFT</tz_short> Which identifies the current TimeZone is AFT. The problem I see is that there is no universally accepted time zone abbreviations, so I cannot take these abbreviations and look up and offset from C#'s TimeZoneInfo objects. Is there a listing of Wunderground's Time Zones abbreviations/names/offsets so I can map their Time Zones to the TimeZoneInfo objects, or is there a better way to get this information? I will need to use the TimeZoneInfo so I can calculate daylight savings time for different locations internationally.

• How do I do automatic data serialization of data objects in Haskell

  One of the huge benefits in languages that have some sort of reflection/introspecition is that objects can be automatically constructed from a variety of sources. For example in Java I can use the same objects for persisting to a db (with Hibernate) serializing to XML (with JAXB) or serializing to JSON (json-lib). You can do the same in Ruby and Python also usually following some simple rules for properties or annotations for Java. Thus I don't need lots "Domain Transfer Objects". I can concentrate on the domain I am working in. It seems in very strict FP like Haskell and Ocaml this is not possible. Particularly Haskell. The only thing I have seen is doing some sort of preprocessing or meta-programming (ocaml). Is it just accepted that you have to do all the transformations from the bottom upwards? In other words you have to do lot of boring work to turn a data type in haskell into JSON/XML/DB Row object and back again into a data object.
