• How to rebuild Safari Web Clip functionality in PHP

- by Mayko
Hi there, is there a way to rebuild Mac OSX Snow Leopard's Dashboard Widget 'Web Clip' on a PHP website? Something like a crawler or scraper. I thought about using file_get_contents to getting the page content into the page, but how do I select a section on the external page? And does this work with session/login content as well? I'm happy for any kind of suggestions! Cheers

• Determining idle network transfer bandwidth

- by rwmnau
I'm building an application that will move around some potentially large files, but I want to do it without disturbing the user's network connection by flooding it. I know that Windows BITS has this kind of functionality, and that's essentially what I'm looking to replicate (as far as the throttling goes). I know BITS has other functionality as well that I'm not interested in, and I also have the option to consume it from .NET, but I'm interested in how it works. I've looked online, and I haven't found a clear explanation of how exactly BITS determines how much bandwidth to consume, aside from a vague "BITS polls activity to watch for a drop in the bandwidth used by other programs." What does this mean? Bandwidth consumed by other programs can drop for a number of other reasons as well - can BITS tell the difference? If I was looking for a process that replicated this "stay just under the radar, where the user won't notice the transfers" functionality, how would I go about doing it?

• How to read an image from disk and block until its read?

- by Shizam
I'm loading 5 images from disk but I want the 1st image I read to show as soon as possible. Right now I do UIImage *img = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:path]; in a for loop but since imageWithContentsOfFile:path isn't blocking all 5 images wind up getting read from disk before the first one will appear (because they're all using up I/O). I confirmed this by just load one and it appeared on screen faster than if I load all 5. I'd like to load the 1st image and block until its fully read and shown before loading the next 4 or load the 1st one and be notified when its done before loading the next 4 but I can't figure out a way to do it. None of the 'WithContentsOfFile' methods for data or image block and they don't notify or have delegate methods. Any suggestions? Thanks

• Rename an uploaded file with PHP but keep the extension

- by paracaudex
I'm using PHP to upload an image from a form to the server and want to rename the image lastname_firstname.[original extension]. I currently have: move_uploaded_file($_FILES["picture"]["tmp_name"], "peopleimages/" . "$_POST[lastname]" . '_' . "$_POST[firstname]") which, of course, renames the file lastname_firstname without an extension. How do I rename the file but keep the extension? Thanks!

• Configuration file for PHP server script

- by teehoo
Right now I have a very high volume of requests coming to my webserver which execute a PHP CGI script. Every one of these scripts opens up a config file that I have created to load options of how the script should run. Doing a file I/O operation everytime a request comes in seems very resource intensive to me. I'm not too familiar with the advanced features of PHP, are there any alternatives to achieve what I'm doing?

• Entity Data Model Wizzard not creating tables in EDMX file

- by Shawn
I'm trying the database first approach by creating an ADO.NET Entity Data Model using the Wizard with the Adventureworks2012 DB. Testing DB connection works, and the connection string is added to the App.Config. I'm selecting all the tables except the ones marked as (dbo) AWBuildVersion, DatabaseLog, and ErrorLog. When the Wizard finishes the .edmx file is blank, and if I view the file in XML view the EntityContainer is empty. I'm using VS 2010 & .NET Framework 4.0

• Restore file's modification time in git

- by rampion
I understand the default git behaviour of updating the modification time every time it changes a file, but there are times when I want to restore a file's original modification time. Is there a way I can tell git to do this? (As an example, when working on a large project, I made some changes to configure.ac, found out that autotools doesn't work on my system, and wanted to restore configure.ac's to its original contents and modification time so that make doesn't try to update configure with my broken autotools).

• Ajax file uploading with java back end?

- by Joren
I don't want to use flash. I've found multiple jquery libraries that do this. Right now I'm using this one: http://demo.webdeveloperplus.com/ajax-file-upload/ The problem is they all use PHP. I tried just pointing it at my servlet instead of the PHP file, but it never gets called.

• Rename files to increment filenumber using PowerShell?

- by Frode Lillerud
Hi, I've got a bunch of files named attachment.023940 attachment.024039 attachment.024041 attachment.024103 etc... I need to rename the files by incrementing the filenumber by a given number. (So that they match the right ID in a database) I guess I could write a C# application that uses RegEx to parse the filename, but I assume this is a task that could be accomplished in PowerShell as well? I've found several other threads on SO about using PowerShell to rename files, but none of them handled incrementing a filenumber. I'm on Win7, so PowerShell 2.0 is available.

• named/bind zone file parser in C#

- by Michal Rogozinski
Hi, I'm looking for a bind/named zone file parser in .NET C#. If there is anything I could import/convert I would be interested too. Unfortunately there's not much, or I'm having troubles finding it. My goal is to make sure a zone file is syntax-errors-free before I push it to the server. I'd appreciate any help or hints. Thanks

• Disable Spring URL resource loading in context file

- by drewzilla
I have the need to specify a URL in a Spring context file but don't want Spring to turn it into a resource, i.e. I want the URL to be passed as a String to the bean that I'm creating in the context file rather than it being converted into a Resource object. How can I avoid Spring creating a Resource? Thanks, Andrew

• How to detect page redirect with PHP?

- by blabus
I'm trying to detect whether an image exists on a remote server. However, I've tried several methods and can't get any of them to work. Right now I'm trying to use this: if (!CheckImageExists("http://img2.netcarshow.com/ABT-Audi_R8_2008_1024x768_wallpaper_01.jpg")) { print_r("DOES NOT EXIST"); } else { print_r("DOES EXIST"); }; function CheckImageExists($imgUrl) { if (fopen($imgUrl, "r")) { return true; } else { return false; }; }; But it returns 'true' whether the image actually exists or not (the above image should, but change it to gibberish and it still will return 'true'). I have a feeling it could be because if the URL does not exist, it redirects to the homepage of the site. But I don't know how to detect that. Thanks for any help!
