  • sql server - framework 4 - IIS 7 weird sort from db to page

    I am experiencing a strange behavior when reading a resultset from database in a calling method. The sort of the rows is different from what the database should return. My farm: - database server: sql server 2008 on a WinServer 2008 64 bit - web server: a couple of load balanced WinServer 2008 64 bit running IIS 7 The application runs on a v4.0 app pool, set to enable 32bit applications Here's a description of the problem: - a stored procedure is called, that returns a resultset sorted on a particular column - I can see thru profiler the call to the SP, if I run the statement I see correct sorting - the calling page gets the results, and before any further elaboration logs the rows immediately after the SP execution - the results are in a completely different order (I cannot even understand if they are sorted in any way) Some details on the Stored Procedure: - it is called by code using a SqlDatAdapter - it has also an output value (a count of the rows) that is read correctly - which sort field is to be used is passed as a parameter - makes use of temp tables to collect data and perform the desired sort Any idea on what I could check? Same code and same database work correctly in a test environment, 32 bit and not load balanced.

    Hi, I have an action in my controller: RedirectToRouteResult Create(UserDTO UserDTO) Which at some point decides with which HTML to respond after a post request by redirecting to an action: return ModelState.IsValid ? RedirectToAction("ThanksCreate") : RedirectToAction("Register"); In my unit tests I would like to get hold of the ‘views’ modelstate somehow like this: var modelState = result.ViewData.ModelState; Assert.IsFalse( modelState.IsValid ); where ‘result’ (ViewResult) is the result of the action ‘Create’ depending on the submitted DTO. My dilemma is that my action ‘returns’ a RedirectToRouteResult which I thought is quite nice but it might not be testable or is it? How could I get hold of the ModelState in my scenario? Thanks.     I have a class UserControlBase that inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl and my user controls inherit UserControlBase class. UserControlBase has some common functions that are used in all user controls. I want to put error display funtion to UserControlBase as well so that I may not have to declare and manage it in all user controls. Error will be displayed in some label in usercontrol. Issue is how to access label which is in usercontrol in UserControlBase in function ? I dont want to pass label as argument. Please guide me on this issue. thanks

  • Convert long number as string in the serialization

    I have a custom made class that use a long as ID. However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string? I'm looking for some kind of attribute.   • ASP MVC: Keeping track of logged in users.

    I'm creating a ASP MVC application. And because of the complex authorization i'm trying to build my own login system. (So i'm not using asp membership providers, and related classes). Now i'm able to create new accounts in the database with hashed passwords. But how do i keep track that a user is logged in. Is generating a long random number and putting this with the userID in the database and cookie enough? Sorry for my rather bad english! Ty in advance :)

    In entity framework we can use 3 approaches model first , code first , database first but each one of them needs manual hand touch(means creating database or create model or write the POCO class codes or entity class codes) before proceeding to the next step ( using EF in context ). What if I want to create database and tables and table relationships programatically and still want to have to features of EntityFramework 4.3. To be more specific , from this example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307283 we can create database , tables and everything using SQL command but we can't have the advantages of entity framework. So if we want to have that what should we do?

  • Redirect in Application_Error redundant if using customErrors?

    If I have a customErrors section in my Web.config that says to redirect to Error.html, then putting code in the Application_Error method in the Global.asax to redirect to Error.html is redundant is it not? Technically, I could bypass the Web.config by redirecting to a different page in the Application_Error method if I wanted to, but since I don't want to go to a separate page I don't think I need the code.

  • Using Public/Private keys in reverse

    Hi, I have a situation where I need to make some data available for reading by anyone from a specific device, where the data is pre-loaded on the device, but I cannot allow anyone to create their own device and populate it with their own data in the same format. I know this sounds a little crazy, but there is a good reason! I was planning to use Public Key cryptography, encrypting the data with a public key, but then publishing the private key to anyone who wants to read the data. However, after looking at the RSACryptoServiceProvider and how it works it looks like I cannot just publish the private key as the private key can be used to create the public key. Could someone confirm that suspicion, or give me some hints on how I might be able to make this work! Many Thanks.

    I'm looking for an algorithm to flip a 1 Bit Bitmap line horizontally. Remember these lines are DWORD aligned! I'm currently unencoding an RLE stream to an 8 bit-per-pixel buffer, then re-encoding to a 1 bit line, however, I would like to try and keep it all in the 1 bit space in an effort to increase its speed.   • I need help solving a rather weird error in a WCF service.

    Hi.. I have a solution that contains three projects. A main project with my MVC app, a silverlight application and a (silverlight enabled) WCF service project. In my silverlight project i have made a Service Reference to my WCF service. And i pretty much got that working. In my WCF service i have a method that returns an Book object, which got some random fields like title, date etc. In the book class, i have a ICollection field that contains a list of events. The book class is generated using entity framework 4.0, and Lazy Loading is enabled. If i in my getBook(int id) method return a book with the events field not initialized, it works as a charm. But if i initialize the field, i'm getting this error. The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error. I have a few ideas why that is happening, and while writing this i just got another one. The wcf service somehow threw away the reference to the event class. That would be very weird since i have a reference between my main mvc app (with the models) and my WCF service. Since i have enabled lazy loading in EF 4.0, i suspect that it may be the thing generating the error. But i'm not sure why that would be, because i'm not in any way accessing that field. I could understand that i may not be able to access the events field after i recive the object in my silverlight application since the connection between the book object and the entity framework is like broken. Did i mention that Lazy Loading is enabled on my EF instance? And there is no inner exception in the thrown exception. Thanks in advance. Malte Baden Hansen

I see that StackOverflow ignore FormsAuthentication and instead implemented a different strategy to persist a login cookie. Pros Out of the box implementation for persistent login feature. Cons The login feature depends on the machine key which mean that I need to make sure that the machine key is the same on all the servers in the farm. The cookie contains wired encrypted values that don't really make sense to store in the cookie.

    I want to render (for internal debugging/info) the last modified date of an assembly, so I know when was a certain website deployed. Is it possible to get it though reflection? I get the version like this, I'm looking for something similar: Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().Version.ToString(); ie: I don't want to open the physical file, get its properties, or something like that, as I'll be rendering it in the master page, and don't want that kind of overhead.

    I am trying to use an <%# Eval("name") %> to be the title of my page. I can't seem to figure out any solutions online. I have tried the other StackOverflow question but that did now work either. The page is a bio.aspx and on the site it is displayed as bio.aspx?id=123 so the page title needs to vary depending on the ID. I figured I could just use the Eval("name") but no luck yet. I currently am using JavaScript: window.onload = function() { document.title = '<%# Eval("name") %> | Title Line'; } This works, but it still leaves the title tags empty, and it's kind of spammy.     I have a page I need to build out where depending on the selection the user made on a form on the page prior it displays a different set of questions for them to answer. So say the user selects Reason A from the form on page edit, then it needs to display Questions 1 and 2 on page edit_confirmation. But if they select Reason B then it needs to display Questions 3 and 4. I'm grabbing the reason code from the query string and have a switch statement set up, but I can't find anywhere how to output different controls. If Questions 1 and 2 are supposed to show up, one could be a text box and the other a checkbox, but if questions 3 and 4 are supposed to show up one may need to be a dropdown list and a checkbox.

  • Automatically "upgrade" user settings from previous version of app.config file?

    Every time I compile my app and the version number changes (I have an auto-incrementing build number), I lose the user-configured app.config settings, since they're stored in the AppData folder for a specific version. Essentially, every release of my application starts from scratch as far as user settings go. While this is a mild annoyance in development, it raises the question as I approach deployment/release - if I use the app.config to store my user settings, will the user's personalized settings be hosed every time they install a patch that changes the version number of my app? If so, is there an easy way to "upgrade" the settings from the previous release? I know that using HKCU in the registry is another option, but I like the ease of the My.Settings namespace, and I'd like to stay with app.config. Another SO question asks something similar, though the answer doesn't seem that clear. Will setting my MSI so it asks the user to upgrade be enough to preserve these user-level settings?
