• Classic ASP Site Throwing Date Conversion Error After Moving Servers?

  I am moving an old store from a Win2003 IIS6 server to a Win2008 IIS7 server, moved everything across including database. The front end seems to work just fine, but when I login it has to do pull in data based on date ranges and now from no where I am getting this error? The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value Any ideas why this would do this on the new server and NOT on the old one? No code has changed and the DB is a backup of the one from the old server??

  Hi, Is it possible to do an 'exact full text search' with CONTAINS. I have removed all noise words etc. but the dbms still seems to manipulate the 'exact word' (e.g. 'j-blade - blade').   I have a simple static class with a few methods in it. Each of those methods open a SqlConnection, query the database and close the connection. This way, I am sure that I always close the connection to the database, but on the other hand, I don't like to always open and close connection. Below is an example of what my methods look like. public static void AddSomething(string something) { using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection("...")) { connection.Open(); // ... connection.Close(); } } Considering that the methods are inside a static class, should I have a static member containing a single SqlConnection? How and when should I drop it? What are the best practices?

  Using SQL Server 2008, I would like to duplicate one row of a table, without knowing the field names. My key issue: as the table grows and mutates over time, I would like this copy-script to keep working, without me having to write out 30+ ever-changing fields, ugh. Also at issue, of course, is IDENTITY fields cannot be copied. My code below does work, but I wonder if there's a more appropriate method than my thrown-together text string SQL statement?   Hi all, Is it possible to hide a dynamic query from the result sets provided from a Stored Procedure? I am using the @@rowcount of the dynamic query to set a variable that is used to determine whether another query runs or not. The other query is used by code that I cannot change - hence why I am changing the Stored Procedure. The dynamic query returns as the first result set from the Stored Procedure is now the result of the dynamic query which currently is "breaking" the calling code. Thanks in advance

  I can understand what the error is saying - it can't compare a list. Not a problem, other than the fact that I don't know how to not have it compare a list when I want to page through a model with a list as a property. My Model: Event : IEvent int Id string Title // Other stuff.. LazyList<EventDate> Dates // The "problem" property Method which pages the data (truncated): public JsonResult JsonEventList(int skip, int take) { var query = _eventService.GetEvents(); // Do some filtering, then page data.. query = query.Skip(skip).Take(take); return Json(query.ToArray()); } As I said, the above is truncated quite a bit, leaving only the main point of the function: filter, page and return JSON'd data. The exception occurs when I enumerate (.ToArray()). The Event object is really only used to list the common objects of all the event types (Meetings, Birthdays, etc - for example). It still implements IEvent like the other types, so I can't just remove the LazyList<EventDate> Dates' property unless I no longer implementIEvent` Anyway, is there a way to avoid this? I don't really want to compare a LazyList when I page, but I do not know how to resolve this issue. Thank you in advance! :)

  I have a table with 2 columns: integer and var char. I am given only the integer values but need to do work on the var char (string) values. Given an integer, and a list of other integers (no overlap), I want to find the string for that single integer. Then I want to take that string and do the INSTR command with that string, and all the other strings for all the other integers. Then I want the sum of all the INSTR so the result is one number. So lets say I have int x, and list y=[y0, y1, y2]. I want to do 3 INSTR commands like SUM(INSTR(string for x, string for y0), INSTR(string for x, string for y1), INSTR(string for x, string for y2)) I think im going in the wrong direction, this is what I have. How do I find out, if the user owns an entire street? street table with columns (id/name) house table with columns (id/street_id [foreign key] owner table with columns (id/house_id/user_id) [join table with foreign keys] So far, I'm using count which returns the result: select count(*), street_id from owner left join house on owner.house_id = house.id group by street_id where user_id = 1 count(*) | street_id 3 | 1 2 | 2 A more general count: select count(*) from house group by street_id returns: count(*) | street_id 3 | 1 3 | 2 How can I find out, that user 1 owns the entire street 1 but not street 2? • Problems with sp_addlinkedserver in MSSQL 2000

  Hi! I'm having a bit of a problem with moving specific data from one server running MSSQL 2000 (A) and another running MSSQL 2008 (B). I'm writing a script according to customer specifications which is to be executed on A, populating tables in B with data. However, I can't seem to get the server link to work. -- Bunch of declarations here EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = @ServerName, @srvproduct = @ServerProduct, @provider = @ProviderString, @datasrc = @RemoteHost -- Data migration stuff here EXEC sp_dropserver @ServerName Now if I run the script in its entirety I get an error saying: Msg 7202, Level 11, State 2, Line 55 Could not find server 'remoteServer' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers. However, if I higlight only the sp_addlinkedserver-part and execute that, there is no error and I can highlight the rest of the script and run it. What am I missing here? Please help! PS. If backup-restore was an option, I would have done that already.

  I got into a deadlock issue where I am struggling find the root-cause...The Deadlock graph suggests that an UPDATE statement became the victim over a SELECT statement... What puzzles me is that the UPDATE statement is trying to acquire an index on some other table that is never referred in update statement... This is how my UPDATE statement looks like... UPDATE Table set col1 = @P1 where col2 = @P2 This statement acquired a X lock on the col2 index, but also tries to acquire an index on a column defined in some other table that is no way related to the UPDATE statement... And the SELECT statement that won the deadlock situation had nothing to do with the table or index in the update statement but tried to acquire an index on the table in UPDATE statement. eventually causing the DEADLOCK.
