• How can I join on a CSV varchar?

  I have a varchar field that contains a string like "10,11,12,13". How can I use that CSV string to join to another table with those IDs? Here's the approach I'm taking now: select * from SomeTable a WHERE (',' + @csvString + ',') LIKE '%,' + CONVERT(varchar(25), a.ID) + ',%' Where @csvString is "10,11,12,...". I intend to use this method as a join condition as well. That method works, but it's rather slow (using CAST doesn't improve the speed). I understand that having CSVs in the database like that is usually a very silly idea in most cases, but there's nothing I can do about that.

• Powershell function that creates a array by input

  I'm quite new to Powershell and working on a little project with functions. What I'm trying to do is creating a function that takes 2 arguments. The first argument ($Item1) decides the size of the array, the second argument ($Item2) decides the value of the indexes. So if I write: $addToArray 10 5 I need the function to create a array with 10 indexes and the value 5 in each of them. The second argument would also have to take "text" as a value. • Using an image as a border

  I am working on an custom container and I need a border for this container. I have a 15x15 image that I am creating a 9-slice border skin with. The issue that I am having is that the border skin does not appear the way that I had hoped it would. Here is a ss of the skin in place. Ideally I should have a transparent box with a 5 pixel border around it. • CorePlot - Set y-Axis range to include all data points

  I have implemented a CorePlot graph in my iOS application, however I am unable to dynamically size the y-Axis based on the data points in the set. Some datasets range from 10-50, while others would range from 400-500. In both cases, I would like to have y-origin (0) visible. I have tried using the scaletofitplots method: [graph.defaultPlotSpace scaleToFitPlots:[graph allPlots]]; but this has no effect on the graphs, they still show the default Y-Axis range of 0 to 1. The only way that I can change the y-Axis is to do it manually via this: graph.defaultPlotSpace.yRange = [CPTPlotRange plotRangeWithLocation:CPTDecimalFromFloat(0.0f)) length:CPTDecimalFromFloat(500.0f)]; however this doesn't work well for graphs with smaller ranges (10-50), as you can imagine. Is there any method to retrieve the highest y-value from my dataset so that I can manually set the maximum y-Axis to that value? Or is there a better alternative?

  I have to create 2 tables: Magazine ( 10 millions of rows with these columns: id, title, genres, printing, price ) Author ( 180 millions of rows with these columns: id, name, magazine_id ) . Every author can write on ONLY ONE magazine and every magazine has more authors. So if I want to know all authors of Motors Magazine, I have to use this query: SELECT * FROM Author, Magazine WHERE ( Author.id = Magazine.id ) AND ( genres = 'Motors' ) The same applies to Printing and Price column. To avoid these joins with tables of millions of rows, I thought to use this tables: Magazine ( 10 millions of rows with this column: id, title, genres, printing, price ) Author ( 180 millions of rows with this column: id, name, magazine_id, genres, printing, price ) . and this query: SELECT * FROM Author WHERE genres = 'Motors' Is it a good approach ? I can use Postgresql or Mysql.

• Entity data field validation and part data submission

  I have an entity class that has 10 fields. I am using MS Validation Application block to mark all fields as mandatory (IsRequired). I am implementing a securiy feature in which during updation of the data, not all the fields in the entity class will have data. For example a few users can only view 5 fileds while others all 10 fields during updation on GUI I have the following options 1) Bring all the data for all the fields from the DB table and hide the ones not accessible to the users in GUI. I am concerned about the performance because everytime GUI will pull unncessary data. 2) Bring the data (e.g. only 5 fields) that are permissible for access/view by the user on GUI. During submit, validation block will throw exception because all fields are marked as IsRequired and only data for 5 fields are sent back to the server. I want to know if there are any other good approaches to solve problems like this. I am using .NET 3.5 Thanks.

• Is it possible to pickle python "units" units?

  I'm using the Python "units" package (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/units/) and I've run into some trouble when trying to pickle them. I've tried to boil it down to the simplest possible to case to try and figure out what's going on. What am I missing? This is using v0.04 of the units package, and Google App Engine 1.4 SDK 1

• Windows desktop gadget RSS Feed colour coding items

  I have a desktop gadget that pulls RSS Feeds from a website. The Feed contains information about issues - ie. Priority, Time, Description. The Feed items are displayed on the desktop - however I need to colour code them according to their priority ie 1 = red etc. using the substr function - is there a better way to do this using JavaScript / HTML? • How do I process a jQuery SVG group event in a single handler?

  I'm trying to draw a button using jQuery SVG, the button is a filled rect and the text is placed on top of the rect. Rect and text are grouped and I want to control the mouseover/mouseout events. The problem is: mouseover/mouseout events are triggered separately for every element of the group. Is it possible to make a single event handler for entire group? Here is an example: gClear = svg.group(); btClear = svg.rect(gClear, 10, 10, 100, h-20, 5 ,5, attrs); txtClear = svg.text(gClear, 35, 30, "Clear", {fontFamily: "Verdana", fontWeight: "bold", fontSize: "16px"}); $(gClear, svg.root()).bind("mouseover", function() { $(btClear).animate({svgFill: '#adf'}, 100); }).bind("mouseout", function() { $(btClear).animate({svgFill: '#fff'}, 100); }) When I move the mouse inside the rect the events mouseover/mouseout are triggered. • rsvg doesn't render linked images

  I use the python rsvg bindings to render an svg image into cairo and save to file, which mostly works. But if the svg file contains a linked image, like so: <image href="static/usrimgs/tmpDtIKpx.png" x="10" y="10" width="600px" height="400px"></image> the image doesn't show up in the final file (the rest of the svg renders just fine). The relative path is correct based on where the script is running, but I'm guessing there's some problem with the fact that it would normally be a relative URL, not a relative filepath. How do I get around this?

  Hi, I am designing a database for a project. I have a table that has 10 columns, most of them are used whenever the table is accessed, and I need to add 3 more rows; View Count Thumbs Up (count) Thumbs Down (Count) which will be used on %90 of the queries when the table is accessed. So, my question is that whether it is better to break the table up and create new table which will have these 3 columns + Foreign ID, or just make it 13 columns and use no joins? Since these columns will be used frequently, I guess adding 3 more columns is better, but if I need to create 10 more columns which will be used %90 of the time, should I add them as well, or create a new table and use joins? I am not sure when to break the table if the columns are used very frequently. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

• Calculate angle of moving ball after collision with angled or sloped wall that is a 2D line segment

  If you have a "ball" inside a 2D polygon, made up of say, 4 line segments that act as bounding walls, how do you calculate the angle of the ball after the collision with the irregularly sloped wall? I know how to make the ball bounce if the wall is horizontal, vertical, or at a 45 degree angle. I also have my code setup to detect a collision with the wall. I've read about dot products and normals, but I cannot figure out how to implement these in Java / Android. I'm completely stumped and feel like I've looked up everything 10 pages deep in Google 10 times now. I'm burned out trying to figure this out, I hope someone can help.

• Keeping asp.net mvc site IIS6 always ready to accept requests

  I have asp.net mvc intranet site that is deployed to IIS6. Site is used rarely so app pool tends to shutdown. When user click the page for the very first time 5-10 seconds are passed till page appears (app pool started and site is compiled). Situation repeats for the next page and so on. AFAIK IIS7 has option to disable App pool shutdown but IIS6 lacks it. Nowadays i have special utility that pings site periodically (10 pages) in order to determine if pages are available and keeps site always ready for users this way. Is it normal or may be I've missed something in IIS6 configuration? Do you use such pinger apps in production to notify support/admins if site is not available? Thank you in advance!

  I'm currently using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. If we say that we give 10 different people a copy of MSVC 10 and a short C++ Hello, World listing. They all create a new project using exactly the same settings, add a new cpp file with the Hello, World program and compile it. Do they all get the exactly same binary? If not, what are the exact differences? What information about my system does MSVC add to my executeable? Paranoia!
