• Fix grub2 after installing ubuntu 12.04

  I've installed ubuntu 12.04, but after rebooting I get the message: GRUB loading: Welcome to GRUB! error: file '/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found Entering rescue mode... grub rescue> I have the following partitons setup: /dev/sda6: /boot ext2 /dev/sda9: / ext4 /dev/sda8: swap /dev/sda7: /home ext4 I guess that some of the prefixes for GRUB are wrong due to the /boot partition? Or there might be a problem with EFI? The hardware is a 1015bx asus netbook with c-60 amd fusion chipset. How can I fix this GRUB problem from the rescue prompt?

• Azure VS Tools and SDK - systray already running&hellip;

  If you are getting a message when you start the Compute Emulator “Systray already running…” from within Visual Studio one fix is to check what the image name is loading is. For some reason, on 2 of my machines the image was loading with the 8.3 format.  This caused the logic in the VS tools to not find the process.  So, to fix, I just did a little copy/rename magic. C:\Program Files\Windows Azure SDK\v1.3\bin>copy csmonitor.exe csmonitor-a.exe 1 file(s) copied. C:\Program Files\Windows Azure SDK\v1.3\bin>del csmonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Azure SDK\v1.3\bin>copy csmonitor-a.exe csmonitor.exe 1 file(s) copied. If you bring up task manager and see something like CSMON~1.EXE in the Image Name column, you probably have this issue.

  My laptop has xubuntu 12.04 installed and I can't read dvds burned in my dvd recorder. To read my dvds, I had to use a external USB dvd driver (in xubuntu).   As the title goes , I have class named GetException.java,inside it ,I read a xml file in a static code block like(Because this document is shared): static{ ... document = db.parse(new File(System.getProperty("user.dir")+"/src/exception/ExceptionCode.xml")); ... } To test if the file path is correct, I write a main function just inside GetException.java, it proves that the path is correct ,xml file can be read successfully. My project root dir is "/home/wuchang/workspace/MongodbI". But When this Class is loaded from other class,such as I called one of its static functions , it reports the error message: /home/mrs/??/eclipse/src/exception/ExceptionCode.xml (No such file or directory) /home/mrs/??/eclipse/ is actually my eclipse installation directory.So , I wander how System.getProperty("user.dir") returned the eclipse installation directory to me ,instead of my project root directory?

• Distinguishing between sets of status reports

  I am working on an internal database monitoring system and am at a point where I sort of hit the wall in terms of application design. Basically I have an extensible plugin architecture where I shall have an OK, a warning or an error upon running a db verification. My first question whether it is sufficient to have only one status reported with an optional status message or provide the ability to have more than one returned (with attached messages) and then calculate an aggregated overall status. In particular in the latter case my second issue would be how to distinguish between two verification reports with the same status code (as it can come from different triggers). I would need to do this to see whether some change happened between the current and last verification. I could simply have string comparisons of the attached status messages mentioned above but that does not seem very reliable.

  I installed Ubuntu One Files on my Nexus One phone. When I tap Log in on the main screen, the app tries to log in then after a few seconds returns the following message: Log-in failed, please try again later. I have an Ubuntu One account, and when I tap Register on the main screen for Ubuntu One Files, I can log in using my phone's Web browser. But if I go back to the app and try to log in, I get the same error. Again, my phone is a Nexus One running Android 2.3.4. The phone is not rooted or modded in any way.

• (SYSLINUX QUESTION) How to launch command prompt once syslinux boots up

  I have created a bootable USB drive using SYSLINUX I am booting my x86 system correctly. Once system boots I want to stop at console (command prompt) where I can type linux commands (cd etc) and run my executable file manually. Does that mean I have to have busy box installed (for basic commands). What makes system stop at command prompt? I do have /dev/console. My serial console is tty1. • Clean install of 12.04 won't boot from HDD

  Downloaded 12.04.2. Made CD. Machine boots from CD as expected. Installed onto HD. Upon reboot, "Read error" message appears. Upon booting from CD, the HD appears as expected: One partition for Ubuntu, taking up about 12 gig, the rest empty. Lather, rinse, repeat five times.   Hope u solve my problem. I am new to Ubuntu. I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 in my pc which is way old because friends told me that it could be installed in any machine. I dually installed ubuntu along with Windows XP. After installation i get a message "Run ubuntu in low graphics" I gave yes and then i was asked for userid and Password. But i keep getting the same UserID page even though i gave the corrent UserID and Password. Is there any solution you can provide. This is my first experience with Ubuntu.

  Okay, so I'm not very familiar with php. I have a very simple form, just 2 text fields. All I want to do is, after validating with JavaScript, send these two string fields in an email to a pre-defined email address. I understand how JavaScript works on the client side; you can respond to user events, etc. And PHP is server-side. What I'm having trouble grasping and figuring out is how do I run PHP functions, etc when I want? I figured out how to use the 'action' attribute of the form to send the data via POST to another PHP page. But this simply opens that page. I don't want to open the page I just want to do some processing and send a message back to the page the user is still on. How do I go about something like that? Thanks.

• Partition table nonresponsive during instal

  I started a Ubuntu install, but the impetuous teenager (IT) at the controls "did stuff" that resulted in an install failure. We had arrived at the partition table. Now, there are no clickable actions in the partition part of the installation. "Install Now" returns the message, "No root file defined." • Display settings problems with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  For whatever reason (this was working correctly on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) when I try to set my displays on top of each other in the settings, it won't allow to place them on top of each other. When I click "apply" I get the error message "Could Not Set Configuration Mode for CRTC 63." Can anybody help me with this? It wont let me set the two displays on top of each other, but it will allow me to place them side to side. Also, I get a random "Unknown display" as well. This was not existent in 12.04 LTS and I have no idea what it is, seeing as how the only screens that are in use, or plugged up for that matter, is my laptop's display (1366x768) and my Samsung TV display (1360x768) thru HDMI.

  In one of my projects users are allowed to edit the same file. It is group work and max number of users in group is 4. It is rare that they will be editing at the same time but there is possibility of it. I am using ckeditor which displays the content. how I can lock the content while it is being edited? For the above case what will happen if one users open the content for editing and then never saves and leave window open. Is it possible to save the content, release the lock for editing by another users? If first user comes back to desk they should see the message that "content has been changed, please refresh". • Suddenly Spotify doesn't work anymore

  I've been using Spotify for 18 months without a problem. I use Ubuntu 12.04. Today Spotify stopped and doesn't start anymore. I only see a quick flash of the Spotify-startup-screen and thats it. I uninstalled using Synaptic and reinstalled using Synaptic. No solution. I uninstalled using Synaptic and reinstalled by terminal. No solution. I used Backup to set the system back two days. No solution. I see no error message and I ran out of options I know of.

  I've just installed matlab and want to be able to call it from the terminal. It works fine when I explicitly call it from its directory. I cd to /usr/local/bin and type sudo ln -s /usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/bin/matlab matlab when I then type "matlab" in the terminal, I get the error message "bash: /media/OS/MATLAB/bin/matlab: No such file or directory" I have no idea why it's trying to call matlab from /media. I've tried deleting the file from usr/local/bin but when I create it again the same thing happens. Any help would be very much appreciated.

  Currently testing Ubuntu 12.04 x64 for our development team. After upgrading from 11.10 I've been having video card issues. I'm using Nvidia GeForce GTX 460. When ever I try to launch Nvidia X server I get the following error message. You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart the X server. I've tried running sudo nvidia-xconfig multiple times and rebooting with no success. I've also tried getting the nvidia-current driver from the x-swat repo sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current Followed again by a reboot did nothing for me but knock my resolution down to 800x600 Finally I've tried sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-video-all sudo reboot Does anyone have any thoughts or directions they could point me in? To the best of my understanding my video card is suppose to be supported.

  I have installed Visual Studio 2010 and Biztalk. I create a new Biztalk-project in Visual STudio 2010. I choose 'Add new item' and then 'New generated schema'. Here I can choose 'Document type'. I choose 'Well-Formed XML (Not loaded)' and choose an input file. Now I get the message 'XFW to XSD schema generation module is not installed. Execute 'C:\Program files (X86)\Microsoft Biztalk Server 2010\SDK\Utilities\Schema Generator\InstallWFX.vbs to install the WFX to XSD schema generation module. I try to execute that file and some text hastily appear on the console. I restart Visual Studio 2010, but it still doesn't work. Apparently the execution of the shell script didn't work. I try to restart the computer, but it still doesn't work. Could anyone tell me what to do?
