  • Just a small problem regarding javscript BOM question

    - by caramel1991
The question is this: Create a page with a number of links. Then write code that fires on the window onload event, displaying the href of each of the links on the page. And this is my solution <html> <body language="Javascript" onload="displayLink()"> <a href="http://www.google.com/">First link</a> <a href="http://www.yahoo.com/">Second link</a> <a href="http://www.msn.com/">Third link</a> <script type="text/javascript" language="Javascript"> function displayLink() { for(var i = 0;document.links[i];i++) { alert(document.links[i].href); } } </script> </body> </html> This is the answer provided by the book <html> <head> <script language=”JavaScript” type=”text/javascript”> function displayLinks() { var linksCounter; for (linksCounter = 0; linksCounter < document.links.length; linksCounter++) { alert(document.links[linksCounter].href); } } </script> </head> <body onload=”displayLinks()”> <A href=”link0.htm” >Link 0</A> <A href=”link1.htm”>Link 2</A> <A href=”link2.htm”>Link 2</A> </body> </html> Before I get into the javascript tutorial on how to check user browser version or model,I was using the same method as the example,by acessing the length property of the links array for the loop, but after I read through the tutorial,I find out that I can also use this alternative ways,by using the method that the test condition will evalute to true only if the document.links[i] return a valid value,so does my code is written using the valid method??If it's not,any comment regarding how to write a better code??Correct me if I'm wrong,I heard some of the people say "a good code is not evaluate solely on whether it works or not,but in terms of speed, the ability to comprehend the code, and could posssibly let others to understand the code easily".Is is true??

  • Drupal development workflow for teams

    - by Raul Singahn
In my last Drupal project we were 5 people doing coding and installing new modules, at the same type our client was putting up content. Since we chose to have only one server for simplicity there were times were many people needed to write to the same files like style.css or page.tpl.php or when someones broken code would prevent others from working Are there any best practises for a team that works with Drupal? How can leverage code repositories or sandboxes?

  • In Python, can I single line a for loop over iterator with an IF filter?

    - by Tal Weiss
Silly question: I have a simple for loop followed by a simple if statement: for airport in airports: if airport.is_important: and I was wondering if I can write this as a single line somehow. So, yes, I can do this: for airport in (airport for airport in airports if airport.is_important): but it reads so silly and redundant ("for airport in airport for airport in airports..."). Is there a better way?

  • multiple paramters type

    - by romerun
I'm trying to write something like this: type 'a 'b xxx = {aaa: 'a: bbb: 'b: ccc: int};; It does not compile. Is it just syntax error, or they don't allow multiple paramters on type ? Then why ?

  • Writing a spec for helper with Ruby on Rails and RSpec

    - by TK
I have been writing specs for controllers and models, but I have never written a helper spec. I have no idea where I start. I have the following snippet in application_helper.rb def title(page_title) content_for(:title) { page_title } end How should I write a helper spec on the code? Also if there's any open-source Rails app to show good helper testing/specing, do let me know.

  • Checking ActiveRecord Associations in RSpec.

    - by alokswain
I am learning how to write test cases using Rspec. I have a simple Post Comments Scaffold where a Post can have many Comments. I am testing this using Rspec. How should i go about checking for Post :has_many :comments. Should I stub Post.comments method and then check this with by returning a mock object of array of comment objects? Is testing for AR associations really required ?

  • Conditional operator in if-statement?

    - by Pindatjuh
I've written the following if-statement in Java: if(methodName.equals("set" + this.name) || isBoolean() ? methodName.equals("is" + this.name) : methodName.equals("get" + this.name)) { ... } Is this a good practice to write such expressions in if, to separate state from condition? And can this expression be simplified?

  • Best way to do text processing in linux/mac ?

    - by euphoria83
I generally need to do a fair amount of text processing for my research, such as removing the last token from all lines, extracting the first 2 tokens from each line, splitting each line into tokens, etc. What is the best way to perform this ? Should I learn Perl for this? Or should I learn some kind of shell commands? The main concern is speed. If I need to write long code for such stuff, it defeats the purpose.

  • Remove extra junk from C preprocessor?

    - by Brendan Long
I'm trying to use the C preprocessor on non-C code, and it works fine except for creating lines like this at the top: # 1 "test.java" # 1 "<built-in>" # 1 "<command-line>" # 1 "test.java" The problem is that these lines aren't valid in Java. Is there any way to get the preprocessor to not write this stuff? I'd prefer not to have to run this through something else to just remove the first 4 lines every time.

  • latex computer output segments

    - by Flavius
I have a verbatim environment containing computer output as text. This text is sematically made of two sections, each section being separated from the other by an empty line. The number of sections and their content is known, so I don't need to parse the text, but the line between the sections is very important (as it gives semantics to the "text"). Each segment is made of multiple lines. How could I write (1) and (2) on the left handside at the centre of each segment?

  • Interesting C projects that upgraded your skill level.

    - by JDQ
I've been (thus far) unable to write a project in C that would be meaningful on any level. For a first project, I've thought of many, but done none. What was the project that changed your skill-level from noob to "coder" the most? Maybe I can take some tips and work on something similar? I was thinking of a toy language, but well, I wouldn't know how to go about that. This might be closed, but oh well :)

  • How can I emulate the ASP.NET Ajax UpdatePanel when using ASP.NET MVC?

    - by Gary McGill
In "traditional" ASP.NET (Web Forms), the UpdatePanel control lets you do a partial refresh of a part of a page. You don't need to write much code to hook this up. What's the equivalent in ASP.NET MVC? I'm guessing I'd need to use a partial view for the bit that I want to update, then on the client side retrieve that HTML and pump it into the innerHtml of the correct DIV? A tutorial/example would be helpful...

  • Joomla - output ' instead of \'

    - by Peter Perhác
Hello there, all of my Joomla site's contents shows apostrophes as \' instead of just '. Now my head is spinning from looking at all the million places where individual components and joomla itself does add/remove slashes and deals with magic quotes and all of this... I also found that one can rather easily write one's own OutputFilter for the patTemplate, so I thought maybe I would just do a str_replace of all \' to '. Doesn't sound right. How to deal with these apostrophes?

  • Is it possible to programmatically edit a sound file based on frequency?

    - by K-RAN
Just wondering if it's possible to go through a flac, mp3, wav, etc file and edit portions, or the entire file by removing sections based on a specific frequency range? So for example, I have a recording of a friend reciting a poem with a few percussion instruments in the background. Could I write a C program that goes through the entire file and cuts out everything except the vocals (human voice frequency ranges from 85-255 Hz, from what I've been reading)? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

  • Ruby Rails _without_ ActiveRecord

    - by devlearn
Hello, I'm looking for any pointers on how to write a rails web app without ActiveRecord. A doc or an example of a (not too complex) web app using storage backends other than a relational database would be greatly appreciated. It's not clear on what should be implemented in the model classes in order to make the rails app work without the ActiveRecord layer. Thanks,
