  • How to detect when the screen is on?

    As mentioned in a previous question, I am having difficulty intercepting all android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON events without a long-lived service (discouraged). I may be able to work around the need if I can simply work out when the screen is on at any given time, in the service. Can anyone suggesting a method call that would return this information? 1.5 upwards.

"Device API version is 7 (Android 2.1)" The application never starts, instead, it shows that frame with: "The application (...) has stopped unexpectedly..." I was first thinking about the SharedPreferences, but then it's saved in the flash memory, which isn't that good for a password, I guess. I'm unsure, what's the best way.   • Way around 1mb file size restriction?

    My app needs to save files that will range from about 2-20mb. When I tried to do this I was getting an OutOfMemoryException. I did some reading and it's looking like Android has a file size limit of 1mb. Is this correct? If so, is there a way around this limitation, other than splitting up every file into 1mb chunks?

    I am trying to create a Registration app with JSON to connect and post to MYSQL database. I created the following IF/ELSE statements to check for vacant input boxes, password match, and correct email characters before allowing it to be entered into the DATABASE. The code continues to execute the JSON posting even after the passwords don't match , invalid email characters are entered , and vacant text boxes are submitted.     have a settings dialog/activity where I allow the user to change the locale. Within that activity i call Resources res = ctx.getResources(); // Change locale settings on the device DisplayMetrics dm = res.getDisplayMetrics(); android.content.res.Configuration conf = res.getConfiguration(); conf.locale = new Locale(language_code.toLowerCase(), coutry_code.toUpperCase()); res.updateConfiguration(conf, dm); and call onChanged() for my settings ListView... everything changes perfectly. Very nice. Then I hit the back button to go back to the previous activity thinking everything should be switched; nope. Everything is still in the previous locale. So I added the above code in the onResume() of the activity thinking that would do it; nope. Also, when I click the menu button of this activity again (not first time) I do not get called in onCreateOptionsMenu() it just displays the previous menu. My question is what is the correct way to force existing activities to reload using the new local?

  • Using a WebView widget to authorize access

    I am trying to access a server that requires authorization using the WebView widget in Android. I think it's the .htaccess type of authorization. I works with the default browser provided with the OS, but when I try it with a WebView.. it gives a 401 immediately. Any ideas on how I can have a WebView present the dialog to enter the user/pass (and remember it)? Thanks.
